Midoriya Izuku - A.K.A. Spider-Man

Chapter 2: Changes

Summary:

Izuku went to turn the knob of the door to the bathroom, and somehow snapped the doorknob off entirely. He blinked uncomprehendingly at the hunk of metal in his hand for a few minutes, before internally deciding Fuck this, I’m going back to bed.

Notes:

Hey, sorry this took forever. I don't really have an excuse beyond the one I use for everything - I pretty much never have motivation to do anything. It's a shitty excuse, so I'll try and push out a double update at the next opportunity. Enjoy the chapter!

(See the end of the chapter for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Upon awakening in the morning, Izuku felt off before he had even opened his eyes. His usually comfortable pyjama bottoms felt coarse and rough against his skin, and the sheets wrapped around his body felt as if they were made of tiny saw blades pressing into his body. Izuku ignored this, figuring it to be just a weird puberty thing, before opening his eyes.

Mistake number one.

The light seeping in from his curtains felt a thousand times brighter, like all the stars in the sky had joined forces to blind Izuku that morning. Izuku yelped and slammed his eyelids shut, already feeling the oncoming of a headache, judging by the blunt throb in the front of his skull. He gradually cracked open his eyelids, relieved to see that his eyes had seemingly compensated, even if his vision felt miles sharper. He kept squinting as he reached up to his ears to pull out the ear plugs he used to block out the never-ending Musutafu drone outside of his window.

Mistake number two.

Immediately his ears were assaulted by a thousand different sounds, from the slight ticking of his alarm clock, to the dull hum of the fridge in the kitchen, to the sound of a dog barking on the street. Instantly confused, Izuku sat bolt upright and slammed his palms over his ears.

Something was definitely not right.

He swung his arm to the bedside table and grabbed his phone, checking the time and the headlines, before moving the blankets off his legs. Only when he let go, the blankets stayed stuck to his hand.

What?

Izuku was beyond confused at that point, flapping his hand around to try and get the comforter to detach from his hand. He eventually managed to get it off, and stumbled into the bathroom to freshen himself up and wake up from.. Whatever the hell was happening. Sadly, Izuku’s troubles did not end the moment his foot exited the door of his room. He went to turn the knob of the door to the bathroom, and somehow snapped the doorknob off entirely. He blinked uncomprehendingly at the hunk of metal in his hand for a few minutes, before internally deciding Fuck this, I’m going back to bed.

It was around 3 o'clock when Izuku woke again, now feeling like he was both boiling to death in his own skin and so cold his bed was shaking from all the shivering. His nose was blocked to all hell and his sinuses felt like they were on fire, on top of the mother of all migraines. He let out a pitiful moan that was just loud enough for his mother to hear and dash into the room and shriek in concern.

“Izuku!” Inko exclaimed upon poking her head around the door, “Are you okay? You look like you’re sick!” Izuku let out another moan as his head throbbed thanks to the loudness of his mom’s voice.

“Not so loud mom.. Please..” Izuku said, voice barely above a whisper. Inko quickly dashed into the bathroom and grabbed the flu medication from a cabinet.

“Hey honey. I got you some medication. How are you feeling?” Inko asked in her smallest voice, mindful of her son’s apparent distress.

“Awful. C-can I have some water?”

Inko was even more alarmed at Izuku’s open admission of ill health. He had come with countless bruises and burns throughout his school years yet had never admitted to being hurt or injured. For him to openly admit he wasn’t in perfect health set Inko’s maternal worry off even further.

Izuku was eventually able to choke down some medicine, and went back to sleep. He spent the next few days feverish and bedridden, feeling like his head was on a rollercoaster from how much it span and his body was trying to burn through every last bit of energy and fat it had. (Little did he know, that was true.)

Notes:

For fun, I made it so every power Izuku gets is on show here. In order it's:

1) Enhanced sense of touch

2) Enhanced sense of sight

3) Enhanced sense of hearing

4) Ability to stick to objects

5) Enhanced strength (I'm thinking around MCU Peter Parker in terms of strength, so pretty fucking strong)

6) Spider-Sense

7) Enhanced sense of balance

8) Enhanced metabolism

NB: All 5 of Izuku's senses did all get enhanced, but I really couldn't find a smooth way of showing that.
