Clouded Souls

Summary:

Izuku was born with his Soulmark partially filled in. No experts could determine why, and he’s just accepted that he likely doesn’t have a soulmate. During a class trip, Izuku is hit by a quirk that sends him back 15 years, near the beginning of Hizashi, Shouta, and Oboro's second year at UA. He spends 3 months in the past, finding his soulmate while he’s there, and getting to know three of his teachers before they taught at UA.

Chapter Text

Izuku woke to his alarm blaring, quickly reaching over to shut it off as he sat up. He rubbed his eyes, yawning and standing up to make his way to the bathroom. Once he had finished and returned to his room, he began to get dressed, glancing at the partially colored soulmark on his wrist, sighing softly. He carefully grabbed the small dark wristband from his nightstand and pulled it over his mark, covering the partially colored lightning wrapped cloud.

His mother had taken him to every specialist she could when he was born, but no one could give her a definitive answer of why her son had been born with an already half-filled soulmark.

“Well, Ma’am, given the way your son’s soulmark has partially filled in, it is possible that you met and had contact with your son’s soulmate while he was still in the womb. Looking at the mark, it seems like only the cloud portion has filled in, so that likely represents his soulmate’s quirk, while the lightning represents his quirk.”

By the time Izuku had turned five, he had grown used to wearing a small band over his soulmark, covering up the odd sight to make sure the other kids wouldn’t tease him for it. He knew he had enough on his plate being quirkless. No need to give them something else to target.

Years had passed, and when Izuku finally received a quirk from All Might himself, he was starting to feel more confident. He could actually become a hero. But, as much as he tried to ignore it, the topic of soulmates always managed to be brought up.

Especially when it seemed like half the class was soulmates with each other. Bakugou and Kirishima had bumped into each other at the USJ, and neither wanted to leave the other’s side for a while after that. Iida and Todoroki both managed to meet their soulmates during the 1v1 battles in the sports Festival. Iida had found his platonic soulbond with Mei Hatsume, while Todoroki found his romantic bond with Hanta Sero.

But while everyone wanted to talk about soulmates, Izuku avoided the topic like a plague. No one knew what his soulmark looked like, and for good reason. He knew that he was different. He knew that his mark wasn’t normal. But, at least once he finished his internship he had an idea of why his mark had lightning on it.

Izuku had always hoped to have a quirk. For the longest time, he believed his mark was messed up because he was quirkless. But then, he received one for all, and figured out how to use it. And he knew that something else was going on. Something else was going to be the catalyst for meeting his soulmate.

He sighed softly, pulling on the rest of his uniform before grabbing his small messenger bag and walking out of his dorm room, heading downstairs to eat breakfast.

“Morning Midoriya.”

“Hey Tsu. Did you sleep well?”

“I did, Thank you for asking, kero. What about you?”

“I slept alright. A bit rough, but nothing too out of the ordinary.”

“Well, I hope you’re ready for our field trip today.”

“I am. It will be fun to lend a hand at some of the local charity groups.”

“Do you know which group you’ll be in?”

“I think Aizawa-sensei assigned me to his and Mic-sensei’s group, so we’ll be going to the animal shelter.”

“Nice. I was assigned to Ectoplasm-sensei and Thirteen-sensei’s group. We’re helping out with the disaster relocation shelters!”

“That sounds like fun! I’m sure you will have a great time!” Izuku smiled and finished preparing his breakfast, sitting at the table and eating as he double-checked his field trip assignment as well as who would be in his group.

According to the sheet that Aizawa had sent out, Izuku was correct, and he’d be in Aizawa and Mic’s group along with Tokoyami, Koda, Hagakure, and Mina. He finished eating and cleaned up his dishes as the rest of the class began eating their own breakfasts.

Once everyone had eaten, they all made their way over to parking lot to meet with their chaperones for the day as Aizawa began directing students to their groups before speaking loudly so they could all hear.

“Listen up. You’ve all been chosen for your specific groups for a reason. While we’re out helping today, you need to remember that you’re not only representing UA, but you’re also showing the public what kind of hero you are. Many heroes get involved in outreach programs like these, and most of us teachers actually regularly volunteer with the programs that we’re taking you to. This isn’t a day to goof around. Take this seriously, because this may be something you want to keep doing, which we greatly encourage. If you do feel like you want to keep volunteering after today, let your assigned teachers know, and they can work with you to figure out when they could bring you off campus to do so. Now get going.”

He nodded as most teachers began talking to their individual groups and turned to his own, glancing at his husband before nodding slightly and looking back at the students. “The animal shelter we’re going to is only a couple blocks away from the school, so we’re going to walk there. Do you have any questions before we head over?”

A chorus of “No, Sir”s was the response and he nodded, beginning to lead the way to the animal shelter.

“Eraserhead! Present Mic! Welcome back you two! And I see you brought the students you mentioned!”

“Taneki-san, good to see you again. This is Pinky, Deku, Anima, Tsukuyomi, and Invisible Girl. They’ve come to see what Mic and I normally do when we volunteer and to get an idea of whether or not they’ll want to do more volunteer work in the future.”

“Awesome! Well, can I go ahead and get an idea of your quirks so we can figure out where would be best to assign you?”

Aizawa nodded, motioning for the students to speak.

“I’m Deku, Ma’am, and my quirk is a form of super strength and speed.”

“I’m Tsukuyomi, and I have a sentient quirk known as Dark Shadow.”

“I’m Pinky! I’m able to produce different types of Acid!”

“I’m Invisible Girl, and my quirk is fairly self-explanatory, but I am able to refract light as well.”

As the others finished, Koda nervously looked up and spoke quietly. “I’m Anima. I can speak with Animals.”

Taneki grinned. “Wow! Those are some great quirks! And I already have some jobs for you! Tsukuyomi, is your sentient quirk able to lift heavy weight?”

“Yes, Ma’am.”

“Perfect. If you and Deku could follow Komari-san out back, we just got a shipment of food in for the animals, so we would love to get your help carrying those in and getting the bags put away. Now, Pinky, are you able to control how corrosive your acid is?”

“I am!”

“That’s great! Now, we got this shelter from a group a while back and it wasn’t in the best condition at the time. If you’d be able to use your acid to smooth down some of the rougher patches in some of the kennels, that would be amazing. I can send a couple workers back to clear away the extra material.”

“I can do that, Ma’am!”

“Great! Omori-san will show you the way back. Now, Invisible Girl, I think you’d be perfect to go with Present Mic and help in socializing some of our younger animals. Your teacher can show you where to go and explain everything.”

“You got it, Taneki-san! Come on, Little Listener, let’s get going.”

“Anima. I wanted to save you for last. I think your quirk could really help us. We’ve got some teen/adult age cats that just haven’t been able to calm down since they’ve gotten here. Eraserhead normally goes in and sits with them since he’s fairly calm and less likely to get scratched with his uniform, but if you’d be able to talk to them and explain that they’re safe, and no one wants to hurt them here, I feel like it would really help us in taking care of them. Do you feel up to that?”

Koda nodded, following Aizawa back to the room with the feral cats, walking in quietly and looking around the room quietly before he began speaking to the animals.

As the day went on, Taneki went out to check on Deku outside, since Tsukuyomi was busy sorting all the food. Her eyes went wide as she spotted him trying to avoid a villain that had shown up outside. Deku moved fast, but the villain was almost as quick. She shut the door before running to the kitten room, quickly getting Present Mic’s attention.

“Taneki-san, is everything okay?”

“Deku. T-There’s a villain outside. He’s trying to avoid it, but the villain is fast! You need to go help him!”

“Tell Eraserhead. Now. I’ll go.” He nods and runs off towards the back door as Taneki turns and goes to the room with the feral cats, spotting him standing just outside the door. “Eraserhead! Y-Your student, Deku! T-There’s a villain attacking him out back! Present Mic already went out there, but the villain is fast, and I have no clue what his quirk is!”

“Keep an eye on my other students and keep everyone inside.” Aizawa spoke quickly before running off to the back door, stepping outside just as a hand manages to graze Deku’s arm, causing him to disappear suddenly. He quickly erases the villain’s quirk, allowing Mic to restrain him as he messaged Tsukauchi and Nezu.

He stepped forward once the texts were sent, glaring at the villain. “Where did you send him?”

“The kid? Hell if I know.”

“Tell me now!”

“I can’t! Even if I wanted to. I don’t know what happens to people when I use my quirk. I just know that they disappear, then reappear in the same spot a week later.”

Aizawa glared before pressing a hand to his head, his eyes shutting as he felt a wave of information flood his brain. He breathed out, speaking softly as he did. “Izuku…”

Hizashi looked up at Shouta, realizing the same thing and frowning slightly. They stayed there until Tsukauchi showed up and took the villain away, Nezu arriving shortly after.

“Aizawa. Yamada. Aside from your student being missing, is everything okay?”

“He-He’s not missing, Nezu. Not technically. Hizashi and I know where he is. Nemuri probably does too. He’ll be gone for a week in our time, but I’m not sure how long he’ll be there in his time.”

“What exactly do you mean?”

“He got sent to the past. More specifically, Hizashi and I’s past. He showed up just before we started our second year at UA. There’s always been a period of time at UA that I had fuzzy memories on… They’re starting to clear up now, and Izu-…Midoriya is at the center of it.”

“I see. Well, I expect you’ll keep me up to date on what you find out?”

“I imagine you’ll start to remember as the week goes on. I don’t think we brought him to you right away. Something else was going on.”
