Crazy things happen on one day i guess..

Chapter 6

Ein sat by the stone fountain, the cool mist of the water dusting his shoulders, but it did nothing to cool the burning regret in his chest. He looked down at his own reflection in the rippling pool. On the exact day he found out he wasn't a broken alpha, but a rare omega, he had managed to completely break the one person who had actually stood up for him.

The heavy silence of the courtyard was suddenly broken by the sound of hurried footsteps echoing against the stone tiles. Ein didn't even look up, assuming it was just another snooty guest or a waiter.
"Ein." The deep, slightly breathless baritone voice made Ein’s head snap up.
Standing at the entrance of the courtyard was Pierce. His tie was still slightly loosened, his neat brown hair slightly mussed from walking fast, and his silver-blue eyes were locked onto Ein with an intense, unreadable emotion.
Ein’s blue wolf ears instantly popped out from his hair, drooping low against his head in a mix of shock and pure vulnerability. "P-Pierce? What are you doing here? I thought you were ignoring me."

Pierce didn't answer right away. He walked over, each step deliberate, until he stopped right in front of Ein. He looked down at the blue-haired wolf, taking in the red rims of his eyes and the pathetic slump of his shoulders. The anger Pierce had felt earlier evaporated entirely, replaced by that same, acheing protective instinct.
Without a word, Pierce sat down on the stone ledge right next to Ein. "I tried to stay away," Pierce said quietly, staring straight ahead at the fountain. "I told myself I’d just wait by the car until the party was over. Stick to the contract. But then I heard you were out here looking like you were about to cry on your birthday. And my legs just... started moving."

Ein swallowed hard, a thick lump forming in his throat. He looked down at his lap, his fingers twisting the fabric of his dress pants. "I'm sorry," he whispered, his voice cracking with genuine angst. "What I said earlier... about the paycheck. It was a horrible thing to say. I just... I build up walls, Pierce. Everyone in my life wants something from me because of my dad's name. I just assumed you were the same. Because..." Ein paused, turning his head to look at Pierce, his eyes swimming with confusion and a deep, raw vulnerability.
"Because how does any of this make sense?" Ein asked, his voice dropping to a desperate whisper. "Why do you even like me? It’s too soon, Pierce. It’s been literally one day. We met twenty-four hours ago! You don't know me. You don't know my flaws, or how messy my life is. How can you act like... like I'm actually yours? It doesn't make sense."

Pierce turned his head, his silver-blue eyes locking onto Ein's. The cold distance from earlier was completely gone, replaced by a profound, heavy sincerity that made Ein's breath hitch. "You're right," Pierce spoke softly, his voice carrying a poetic, rhythmic weight. "Logically, it doesn't make sense. It’s too fast. But the moment you walked into that cafe yesterday... something shifted. When I looked at you, it didn't feel like I was meeting a stranger. It felt like an echo."
Ein blinked, his blue ears twitching slightly. "An echo?" "Yeah," Pierce murmured, leaning in just a fraction closer, his warmth enveloping Ein's frozen frame. "It felt like a strange, ancient familiarity. Like some unexplainable feeling that we’ve done this all before. Like in a thousand different lifetimes, in a thousand different universes, we’ve crossed paths, clashed, and somehow... always ended up right next to each other. My wolf didn't recognize a customer yesterday, Ein. It recognized you."

Ein’s heart violently slammed against his ribs. His mind instantly flashed back to his dream—the German Shepherd on his bed, the shifting silhouette, the intense, familiar warmth. An echo. They really were dreaming about each other before they even knew names existed. "So no, I don't expect you to just throw your walls down and accept me today," Pierce continued, his hand slowly reaching out. He didn't grab Ein's thigh this time; instead, he gently cupped Ein's cheek, his thumb brushing away a stray, unshed tear. "If the fake boyfriend contract is what keeps me close to you, then I'll use it. But I'm not going to keep pretending, Ein. I’m going to court you. I’m going to earn your trust, piece by piece, until you realize that I'm not here for your father's money."

Pierce's thumb stroked his cheekbone, his silver-blue eyes dropping to Ein's lips before rising back up with a soft, devastatingly handsome promise. "I'm here for you, sweetheart. For as many months, or years, as it takes." Ein’s entire face flushed a brilliant, burning crimson. His blue wolf ears stood straight up, trembling with an overwhelming rush of pure, unadulterated emotion, and beneath the linen of his suit pants, his tail materialized and gave a sudden, frantic, traitorous wag against the stone fountain.
He couldn't even find a sarcastic retort. He was completely, utterly defeated by the absolute poetry radiating from the giant cross-bred wolf next to him.

"You... you're a terrible fake boyfriend," Ein choked out, a small, watery smile finally breaking through his angst as he leaned his cheek just a fraction deeper into Pierce's warm palm. "You're entirely too good at making me look stupid." Pierce let out a low, victorious chuckle, his thumb smoothing over Ein's blushing skin. "It's a gift. Happy birthday, Ein.”
