Chapter Text
"And I have a mission for you regarding Eggchan."
Yungy felt his heart sink, a cold dread washing over his entire being at the implication the spider hybrid had made.
Yet he could not bring himself to decline.
"I'm sorry." He muttered underneath his breath.
He doesn't want to kill Eggchan, the angel had been pretty chill most of the time and had even cheered him up in the past when he paid a visit to him when he got demoted. Yet who was if not a fool following orders blindly? The kingdom of the caves was all he had, he couldn't afford to throw it all away for a friendship he doubts is even mutual.
Yet is the position worth more than his morality?
The answer was made when Yungy asked Arachnid what the mission was.
"Kill Eggchan."
For a few minutes before he had asked, the few minutes where only silence reigned, he had foolishly hoped it had been anything other than that. But at last, he knew this was how it would all end, even if Wemmbu was still alive.
They could never have afforded to put all their trust on a double edged sword, after all is said and done.
Yungy didn't respond back, all he did was grab his sword from his inventory and begin walking to the room where he knows the angel was at.
Dread slowed him down, yet the ending was inevitable.
Deep inside, he wishes the angel had somehow escaped, but he knows that wont ever be possible with how thorough they had been when they first got him.
The walk was short, or was supposed to be. Yet Yungy found himself taking longer to go to his destination than usual. He feels his body being sluggish and slightly weak, like he had been affected by a weakness potion, despite never encountering anyone else and haven't had used any potion prior other than night vision.
He feels a little light headed, too.
It was like everything in the universe was making him take longer for the sake of not carrying out the mission for him.
His energy was draining for whatever reason, but unfortunately, that wont stop him.
So he keeps walking.
Yungy froze mid step when he saw Wemmbu right in front of him.
Had Arachnid not just say that the demon hybrid was dead?
What was he doing in front of him, then?
Yungy started sweating bullets.
The Wemmbu in front of him didn't do anything but stand, yet the air around the castle felt cold and suffocating, like they were in an active suffocation trap.
He couldn't move his body.
His body wouldn't listen.
Yungy felt his eyes start stinging from the air around him, so he blinked.
Wemmbu got closer.
He felt his soul banging inside his body, as if wanting to escape.
He gulped and willed himself to talk,
"Wemmbu... Whatever messed up game you're playing, it's not working."
He acted brave, acted unmoved.
Yet Wemmbu didn't respond or move.
Yungy decided to test whatever game the demon was playing and blinked once quickly.
Wemmbu got closer.
Yungy just now noticed all the blood adorning the purple demon hybrid.
Wemmbu looked terrifying.
Yungy felt his breathing get quicker, shorter.
He didn't mean to blink, he swears.
Wemmbu was now all up on his face, staring at him with eyes that promised horror.
Yungy stumbled backward and everything cleared again.
He could finally move his body, the air had gone back to the cold, stale version of itself rather than the terrifying almost oxygen-less it had been prior, and most importantly, Wemmbu was gone.
"Oh hell nah, what was that." Yungy asked out loud to no one in particular, quickly wiping the sweat that had formed on his face and forcing his breathing to return to normal whilst standing up to act like nothing had happened.
Yet he knows exactly what he saw.
Was he hallucinating? Probably, ghosts didn't exist in minecraft, after all, unless he missed an update. In addition, he's heavily stressed and sleep deprived, not to mention the amount of guilt pooling in his body at the moment, it was probably just a trick from his mind.
But it messed him up real bad.
Yungy sighed, before continuing his walk towards Eggchans' room again, albeit a bit faster this time.
He doesn't want to be alone right now.
He couldn't help but think back to the hallucination he had earlier.
Wemmbu looked real, or as real as a ghost could get.
He could almost feel him. Keyword almost, of course.
Why did he suddenly have that hallucination when he was thinking about killing Eggchan? Had the hallucination truly responded to his hesitation to do as told? Was it punishing him?
Was it just him thinking about the purple demon and how he'd definitely get his head if he laid a finger on the angel? Was the hallucination based off of that thought?
Or had the demon hybrid truly become a ghost and went to haunt him?
Yungy could feel the hairs on his body stand up at every thought crossing his mind.
He never really believed in ghosts, never was afraid much of the concepts of the undead.
Yet every single thought crossing his mind was somehow connected to the mention of the super natural.
Yungy paused abruptly and smacked both of his cheeks with his hand.
"Lock in, Yungy!"
He yelled to encourage himself, as if saying it out loud made it more effective.
The man ran the rest of the way to the bookshelves that were the entrance to where they kept the angel locked up.
Yungy quickly stopped and evened out his breathing, refusing to look disheveled and afraid like he knows he is deep down.
No one needs to see the scared, vulnerable side of him.
After calling out to the guards, he successfully entered the hallway leading to the room where it will all happen.
Yungy slowed his pace once more, because the moment he arrives in that room, he'll have to come to terms to what he's about to do.
But the hallways weren't long enough.
His pace wasn't slow enough.
And his imagination wasn't strong enough to last long.
Because now, he's standing in front of Eggchans' room.
And the enchanted netherite sword is in his hands.
For a few days now, Eggchan had not had guards within his room.
The only guards being the ones in the hallway.
He knows the angel is all alone inside, with no one to protect him.
No one to stop Yungy.
Yungy opened the door slowly,
and saw the angel standing looking towards him.
"Hey Eggchan.." Yungy walked through the door, looking down at the floor with guilt in his eyes rather than looking at the angel.
"Yungy." Egg greeted with cold indifference.
They both knew where this conversation was going.
They both knew what was inevitable to happen.
Yungy felt the room become much colder than before.
The same light headed feeling rushing to him once more.
He felt nauseous.
'Get this over with, Yungy.'
He piped himself up in his mind.
After doing this..
It will all be over, and he can lay back in bed and rest.
He had stood still for a moment before his eyes went wide.
He feels his body become so heavy, he physically has to lean against the now closed door to keep himself up.
His knees are threatening to go out at such a crucial moment, yet he has to stay strong.
Just a few more minutes.
Just give him a few more minutes.
Yungy felt weaker.
So much weaker, he could barely lift his sword.
Must be the guilt dragging him down.
It had to be.
Egg stood rooted to his spot.
There was no other outcome for him now.
Yungy forced himself to go closer to the angel.
He forced his hand to rise, to carry his sword and stab the angel through the heart.
He forced his entire body and mind to move and accept that the angel was dead the moment he walked inside the room.
He forced himself to come into terms with reality.
He lifted his sword, and in one swift action, stabbed the blade straight into Eggchans heart.
The angel didn't even try to fight back, didn't even try to run.
He stood there waiting, accepting his outcome.
Yungy wished the angel wasn't so accepting of how things turned out for him.
Wished the angel fought, screamed, tried to run, even if it was futile.
Because at least then, Yungy could think of this as just another kill for the greater good, the same way he's slaughtered other players.
Yet the angel did not budge, did not do a single thing.
The fact he did nothing made everything feel so much worse, because he can't think of this as just another senseless murder.
When he remembers this moment, he won't remember a scared player wanting to live.
He'll remember a player that had lost the one person most important to him and had stood and awaited death like he believed there was nothing else left for him in the world.
He'll remember a player that had not fought, not ran, had not even spoken nor screamed.
He'll remember seeing a player so broken not even death seemed to affect him.
Yet when the angel fell down when his knees buckled,
when the angels' breathing become erratic,
when the angels' eyes became visible to him for the first time,
he saw not cold indifference nor apathy,
but an emotion so scared and vulnerable.
Eggchan had not been accepting of his death,
had not been indifferent when he got stabbed in the heart,
he had been scared when he died.
Like any player would have been when they met their end.
He can't watch.
Yungy couldn't pull himself up anymore, as he, too, fell to the ground.
But for where the angel was laying in his own pool of blood, Yungy had been sitting, leaning against the wall.
For where the angel gasped for breath as blood clogged his throat, Yungy was soothing his own erratic breathing.
Yungy did not dare look at the dying angel beside him.
He's too scared to, because if he did, he'll see how much of a monster he's become in someone elses eyes.
He didn't deserve to look.
Yet when he had looked at the angel, he was not looking at him.
Was not pleading with his eyes for mercy nor begging for him to put him out of his misery.
The scared look wasn't for Yungy.
It was for whatever or whoever it was that Eggchan saw before he died.
Yungy could take a guess who it was the angel was seeing.
And before Yungy could think more, he heard the angel mutter his last words.
"I'm sorry, Wemmbu."
Yungy felt his heart clench and his nauseousness become even more intense.
'Eggchan was slain by Yungyx'
There was no turning back now.
It had been three hours since Yungy had carried out his mission.
Three hours since the angel apologized to his best friend for his last words.
And three hours since his suffering started.
For the past three hours, he has been light headed, nauseous.
For the past three hours, he's been completely exhausted both physically and mentally.
For the past three hours, he's been seeing that purple demon watching him from the corner of his eye.
When the death message of Eggchan had appeared in his communicator, he had dragged himself up to leave the room and return to his own castle to sleep all his worries and guilt away.
He had left that room covered in blood with eyes so wide you'd think he bore witness to the worst massacre in the history of Unstable.
Somehow, he had reported to Arachnid somewhere along the way, before making it to his castle.
He hadn't had the energy to clean the blood from himself as he immediately collapsed upon entering his home.
Everything was eating him alive, he could feel it.
He had to drag him numb body to his bed where he now lay staring at the ceiling, his mind refusing to stop thinking and just go to sleep.
He wondered if anyone else felt like this.
He wondered if the exhaustion he saw on the faces of guards and other players he saw when he was walking around was caused by the same terrible feeling he was experiencing, or if everyone had always been that way and he was just noticing now that he was aware of everything he did.
He wondered if the cautiousness he saw on Arachnids' face when he reported to him was caused by the same dread he felt, or if it was because of something else.
Maybe Arachnid had always been like that.
Maybe he was just imagining the look.
He's been thinking over and over again about what was happening to him, while the memory of what happened in that room ingrained itself in his head and refused to stop looping.
Had Wemmbu really been there?
Was that why Eggchan had apologized?
Or was it just a way for the angels mind to comfort himself before he died? A delusion, basically.
Yungy grumbled incoherent words as he sat up slightly, aiming to clean himself up of the blood staining his entire being.
How stupid.
When it was Wemmbu, blood seemed to adorn him, yet when it was him, it was a stain that needed to be cleaned.
.
.
.
What was he thinking..
Maybe he really is going insane.
He needs to get his mind off of everything.
But he can't be bothered to show himself to the public.
He fears they will see that he hesitated to kill an enemy.
Yungy stood up slowly with help from leaning against his bed.
He slowly moved his feet to go to the bathroom.
He opened the door slowly, wincing at the creaking noise it made.
The noise was so loud, too loud.
He hadn't even noticed before that his door creaked!
He turned on the lights near the door before entering the room.
Using the walls for support, he made his way to the sink to wash his hands and face.
He made sure to put extra effort not to let his eyes wander to the mirror.
He fears what he'll see won't be him, but a monster.
The faucet was turned on slowly, and Yungy watched as water fell from the faucet straight to the drain below it for a few seconds before finally raising his hands to go under the water.
The dried blood staining his hands became wet once more as water re-activated it.
The once clear water had now turned red, and Yungy felt his breathing shorten.
He wills it down.
He doesn't know why blood triggers him now.
It never used too, not much anyway.
Not when he's murdered more players before in colder, harsher ways.
Perhaps it's not the blood itself but who the blood belongs to that makes him act so off.
Yet why?
Eggchan had not been his friend.
Eggchan had not been someone important to him.
So why?
Maybe the answer is the fact that he learned to care for the angel the way he hadn't for any other player.
But Yungy refuses that answer.
It's wrong.
Yungy doesn't know why he's acting this way.
It's probably just fear that Wemmbu would be out for him, even if he knows that the demon was already long gone.
The type of fear that purple menace instilled in people wasn't something that could easily disappear when one learns that he's gone, and despite Yungy acting tough, he had been afraid of the demon hybrid the same way most people are.
Yungy cups his hands together to catch water once his hands were cleaned of any sign of his earlier sin.
He waits when the water in his hands was almost over flowing before he lowers his head and closes his eyes to splash the water on his face.
He repeats the process thrice, before turning the faucet off and rising once more to grab a towel near the sink to dry his face and hands.
He hadn't been paying attention when he accidentally looks at the mirror.
His eyes widened as he stumbled backwards and let out a scream.
The one in the mirror staring back at him wasn't his reflection.
It truly was a monster.
But not the monster he had been expecting.
Wemmbu stared at him from the mirror.
Yungys' breathing turned erratic once more, as he struggled to breathe when the room seemed to lose all of the oxygen.
The lights start to flicker as Yungy tries to open the door.
He gripped the door handle so hard his knuckled turned white and yet the door wouldn't budge.
The entire time, Wemmbu stood unblinking in the same exact spot he had been when Yungy first saw him, staring at him and mocking him.
He looked exactly the same as he had been when Yungy first saw him in Arachnids' castles hallways.
The same dried blood adorning him, the same dead, cold eyes, the same everything.
Yungy couldn't stand much longer as he slid down against the door.
He turned to look at the mirror again, brave and bold yet foolish.
He just wanted to make sure Wemmbu wouldn't cross through the mirror somehow.
Admins know how long the purple demon had been watching him.
"Stop! Go away!", he begged as he put his hands over his ears.
Wemmbu had not moved his lips once, yet he could hear his voice in his head a thousand times over.
They were speaking complete nonsense for him.
They were all overlapping, it was making his ears start ringing.
Yungy started panting heavily as he felt his vision blur and tears prick at his eyes.
He's going to pass out.
The lack of oxygen is affecting him really badly now.
What would Wemmbu do to him, he doesn't wanna know.
Before he passed out, he caught a glance at Wemmbus' eyes again.
He was still in the mirror, watching him.
The same look that promised horror upon him clear in those murky gold eyes.
Everything became black afterwards.
Yungy woke up with a start.
He gasped as he took oxygen in heavily.
He laid on the cold floor a little more, forcing himself to calm down before he sat up slowly.
He was still in his bathroom, this time, however, the lights weren't flickering, the oxygen felt more than enough, and most importantly : Wemmbu wasn't in the mirror looking at him.
He let out a breath as he clumsily stood up, noting that the door was behind him and how his towels were still on the ground from when he let go off it when he saw Wemmbu.
Yungy tried opening the door once more, and to his shock, the door opened easily.
Outside, everything was the exact same.
He quickly shut the lights off in the bathroom and shut the door behind him as he rushed towards the comfort of his bed.
He felt so awful.
Yungy reached his bedroom and looked around the room, noting that nothing was out of place or odd.
He debated over locking the door behind him.
Locking the door meant that nothing from the outside could come in, but also meant that if whatever happened in the bathroom happened again, he would struggle even more with the door.
'Whatever', Yungy thinks as he locks the door.
If that did happen again, whether the door is locked or not, he still won't be able to open it, anyways.
He made quick work of crossing the few blocks between his door and his bed, instantly laying down when he felt the softness of the wool his bed was made of.
He had just woken up from passing out, he doesn't think he'll be sleeping any time soon, yet he had nothing better to do so now he's here, laying in bed doing nothing.
He just wishes Wemmbu doesn't appear again.
Thoughts come flooding in and out of his mind, overlapping each other the same way that Wemmbus' voice did in the bathroom.
Yungy closed his eyes tightly, his mouth chanting "Stop it.." over and over again, each repeat of the word louder than the last, like he was trying to make his voice louder than the voices in his head.
Maybe hours had passed since he laid down, but he eventually calmed down.
And he's been so tired the entire day.
Or has it been days?
He doesn't know.
He felt his eyes slowly close, this time more naturally.
He can finally get the rest he was hoping for.
Yungy woke up in the void.
He tried to scream yet the void ate his voice before he himself could even hear it.
Or maybe he never spoke at all.
He felt like he was falling and flying all at once, like how he always imagined it would feel if you fell in the void.
Was he going to die?
He closed his eyes.
He didn't want to die yet.
But before he could do anything, he landed in a bed.
Yungy opened his eyes and looked around him.
Oh.
This room was familiar.
He knows where this room is.
He was in Eggchans' room.
Yungy felt the dread coming again, but before he could do anything, he saw Wemmbu in the seat in front of him.
The same seat the angel was always at when he was writing.
There was still blood adorning him.
There was still blood staining the ground.
And when Yungy looks at his hands, the same blood staining the ground also stained him.
"I'm sorry."
He heard Wemmbu say.
Yungy turned to look at the demon hybrid who was still facing the opposite direction.
Then he heard the purplette speak again,
"----------"
"What..?"
Yungy couldn't understand what the other had said, yet before he knew it, he was forced on the ground again, laying down in the blood as he felt pain strike his heart.
He looked up from where his eyes were, and he saw another him leaning against the wall the same way he did when he murdered Eggchan.
And behind the other him stood Wemmbu.
The same everything.
Unchanging.
As he closed his eyes because of the pain in his heart, the scene changed again.
This time, he was leaning against the wall again, the same heaviness in his body present.
Across from him, he saw the angel again, looking behind him with the same scared eyes.
Yungy forced himself to look behind him to where the angel was looking, and to where he had seen Wemmbu when he was in Eggs' position.
There was no one there, just the door.
Yet when he looked back to where the angel was, he was met with Wemmbus' face inches away from him, this time his eyes were wide with unfiltered rage.
He heard the same overlapping voices from the bathroom event prior.
They were all incomprehensible like the second sentence Wemmbu had spoken in this room, yet as more time passes, the voices began arranging itself and merging into one.
This time, he understood what Wemmbu said.
"You will pay for this.''
Yungy woke up gasping for air,
he sat up from his bed in such a hurry that his head started spinning.
He felt like he was gonna throw up.
He needed to go to the bathroom.
Wemmbu was out for him.
"Crap.."
Yungy needs to tell Arachnid about this.
Could begging for mercy stop Wemmbu?
But begging when Wemmbu was alive never worked..
Crap.
Yungy is terrified for his life.
He rushed to the bathroom and avoided looking at the mirror at all costs.
He never had dreams nor nightmares before, so if he had one now, then it wasn't meaning any good for him.
Especially since it had been the latter and not the former.
Yungy could feel tears gather in his eyes as he hunched over the toilet.
'I'm sorry.'
What were you sorry for, Wemmbu?
You sure as hell don't seem sorry for my situation!
.
.
.
Were you apologizing for not bringing misery onto me much earlier?
