Chapter Text

The ghost didn’t seem to understand how her late awakening had worried the Spectre. Partially because the Spectre couldn’t find the right words to explain - her throat kept closing up, choking back anything that would have come out. Finally, after several failures, she gave up. “Come, then. You are… ready for lessons, yes? It is Second Stanza, so we are to review combat today.”

“I had something else in mind,” the grey ghost said, and stepped to the side.

No.

Stepped between.

“Dearest heavens above… How have you done this thing?” the Spectre said. Her student, of course, didn’t answer, as she was no longer present. “One does not… Okiado, how did I not see this thing?” She began to pace back and forth, the tails of her shawl sweeping through the Mist behind her.

“She is this - prodigy! Quickly taking all layers of the organ, the combat, reading - this! How did I not see it! How did I not think, that she would find her way to the Misty Dream without my guidance!” She snarled at herself, feeling foolish. “Now… Where is she taken to?”

Stepping between, she followed the path of least resistance out to…

The Spectre sighed. “Why is this grey ghost in my sleeping chamber?”

“It is not as easy as I expected to navigate this place,” she replied. “This is not where I intended to go.” Then, before the Spectre could instruct her properly, she stepped between again.

The Spectre growled, pressing a claw to her face, and followed.

The next room they emerged into was the spa room. Unlike the kitchen, the Spectre actually kept this room clean, despite how little it was used in recent turns. If a soul-spring became fouled, the result would be something much less tolerable than a few mites, and she didn’t want that creeping around her Chapel.

“I was not aware there was a spa here,” the grey ghost said.

The Spectre snorted. “This Chapel holds many secrets. This is but one of these things. Now, my pupil, you will slow down, and -” She turned her head to look at the ghost, but she was already gone. “Okiado… This bug, she is too excited. And stubborn as a nixak.”

She followed between again, the Mist depositing her into the kitchen. There, she found her ghost chasing mites through the rubbish. “My pupil. You will not run off again, and let me instruct you - Ah!” She cut off as the shorter bug leapt at her, hissing. “What are you -”

“Get out,” the grey ghost hissed. She had a sudden wild look to her, and if the Spectre could see her eyes she expected they would be slitted.

“…Ah. Hm. You seem not in your right mind, and I do not wish to wound my only student.” The Spectre stepped backward, retreating to the door of the kitchen. “This thing, it does seem new.” Pausing, she saw the ghost still bristling like a wild beast. “I… Shall be in the courtyard once you finish.”

Notes:

phantom is very private about eating and also a feral creature when it comes to anything that could become edible
