Chapter Text

CWs: Death of a loved one

You fell into a deep abyss, a room that was only black walls, floor and ceiling. "...What the hell?" You muttered, looking around. But there was nothing to be seen, just darkness.

Then, a light appeared. A portal-like structure formed in the distance and someone familiar walked through. "April." You breathed.

Her brown hair was in a ponytail, as always. Her pale skin was brighter with the light behind her, and for a few seconds you could barely see her. But then, you saw her wide brown eyes, and she smiled.

"Y/n."

"Where have you been? I've been looking for you for ages!" Your voice sounded. But it wasn't you who said that.

You turned around to see yourself behind you. She looked a year younger.

Were these your memories?

You turned back around as April spoke. "In the toilet."

"Where's Theo?" Stairs appeared and the other you ran over, taking the spot that April tried to get. You put your middle finger up at her and she pushed you back, making you laugh.

You fell, and soon you were at the top of a beige, ashy hill, which had a large crater-like shape down below. You skidded down the sides and ran over to a body in the middle, stopping when you realised who it was.

"April!" You shouted, running over and kneeling down next to her. She coughed as you helped her to sit up, and looked at you. "You're gonna be okay, alright?" She nodded slowly, then coughed up some blood.

"I don't think you're telling the truth." You laid her back down and ripped off some of the fabric on the sleeves of your blazer, patching up a large cut in her side, which was causing her to bleed out. "Y/n, it's no use."

"Shut up." You said firmly, tying it around and making her yell out in pain. "It's gonna hurt a little, but the pros will be here soon. They'll be able to help you. You–you'll go to the Hospital and heal up, and then we can go back to school and you can see me at UA, okay?" She nodded, then closed her eyes. "Hey, keep them open."

"I can't." She said, trying to open them but failing. "I'm tired. I wanna go home."

"You can go home soon, just open your eyes." You tried to open her eyes, but she swatted your hand away.

"Just a quick nap." She mumbled.

"April, open your eyes!" You shouted. She shook her head and relaxed her body. "Hey! Open them!" You tried to pry them open again, but they were shut too tight. Her eyelids were too heavy. "Open your eyes, April!"

You put your hand over her mouth and your eyes widened when you realised there was no breath. "...April?" You pressed your fingers to the pulse point on her neck, starting to panic when you couldn't feel anything. "April!"

"April, wake up!" You yelled, pressing down on her chest multiple times, trying to start up her heart again. "Wake up, please! Please!"

She didn't move. Her heart didn't start again. This was like when Katsuki died–but he got better. He got revived, he lived.

Why couldn't she live like him?

"Dust Devil!" You yelled But there were no letters, no words in the sky. Nobody asking you what you needed. There was nobody else.

April had put up a fight–was that not enough? "Please!" You yelled, still pressing down on her chest. "Please, April! You can wake up, Katsuki woke up! Katsuki woke up and he's still here! Just wake up like him!"

"Why can he wake up and you can't?" You yelled. "It doesn't–it doesn't make sense, he didn't wake up because of Dust Devil! So why can't you wake up?"

No response. Her skin started to get paler. "Please! You just need to wake up! You're my friend, Tom's your boyfriend! If you're not going to wake up for me, at least wake up for him!"

Nobody answered.

Soon, you felt arms around you, and you screamed, trying to hold onto April. You didn't even notice the sobs and tears until they were wiped from your face by your father.

"She's gone, Y/n, she's dead. She's gone." You pushed him away and pulled up walls around you with your quirk, caving you in as you pulled your knees up in front of you and sobbed into them.

She was dead. She didn't wake up like Katsuki. She didn't even say sorry.

April was gone. As you cried and screamed, you felt the scene fade again, and the memories that had faded out of the cracks of the walls you had trapped yourself inside, came back to you.

-

"Y/n!" You heard someone yell, skidding to you and wrapping their arms around you as you cried. You didn't even realise who it was at first, but when the soft words of, "You're gonna be alright. I'm here. Nobody can hurt you, you're fine." You wrapped your arms back around Katsuki.

"Katsuki." You wailed into his chest. "It was April, she–she died."

"Shh. I'm here. It was just a bad dream. She's been gone for years, it's fine." But that didn't change anything. And he knew just as much. He didn't really even know how to comfort you–he'd never had to comfort someone who had just relived through their best friend dying.

But he didn't know that.

All he knew was that this was something to do with April, and you were at your weakest. He wouldn't let anyone else see that.

-

You got up the next day, groaning as you felt your arms hit the soft, clean sheets of your bed. "Hey." Katsuki's voice travelled into your ear. "It's okay."

He rubbed ointment on your arms, instantly easing the pain. He wrapped bandages around the burns, then helped you to sit up, feeding you warm soup with a large spoon. "You just need to rest, Y/n, it'll be alright." You nodded.

You managed to open your eyes, which felt like they had been stuck together. You grabbed a washable marker from where your feet were, your eyes narrowing. "What's this for?"

"I..." He sighed. "I thought that maybe...if you're okay with it, of course, I could draw stars around the scar on your face." You turned to look at him and smiled. "And we can film it for a TikTok for your rabid fans or whatever that are asking for a new post."

"Alright." You grinned and sat up. He set up your phone at the end of the bed, perfectly placed for the video, then started. He held your chin in one hand and drew the first one. It had a weird sensation, as if someone with long nails was moving them along your face. You giggled at it. "It tickles."

He smiled, holding your chin firmly, but also gently, so you wouldn't move but also so you were comfortable. "Stay still."

"I am."

"Stop talking. It moves your face." You laughed. "Stop!"

"Okay, okay." You smiled as he made eye contact with you, then rolled his eyes and drew another star on your face. He kept on drawing them, before you spoke again. "Your eyes are really vibrant."

"You're going to make them look bad. Stop." He held your chin slightly firmer as you smiled. "And stop smiling. It makes you look pretty but that's not your top priority right now."

"Wow."

"Because you're always pretty, dumbass."

"Do you know how corny you are?"

"Do you know how annoying you're being right now?" You nodded as much as you could with his hand on your chin and he rolled his eyes. "Then stop."

"Alright." You whispered, as he continued to draw stars on your face. When he got to your nose, he drew one at the tip, then one at the top of the bridge. He moved to the left, and drew more then. "Y'know, you call me pretty all the time, but I haven't really done that to you."

"Because you did it once and I wanted to cry over how bad at flirting you are." You laughed as he drew another star.

"You do know what the next lyric in the song says, right?" He nodded. "And...?"

He rolled his eyes. "It doesn't just mean you'll be bleeding because of me. It could also mean that you're bleeding because of how fucking clumsy you are."

"How romantic." You commented as he grinned. "How come you get to smile and I don't?"

"Because I'm not the one who's getting stars drawn over their face." You rolled your eyes and after one more star, he pulled away. "There you go."

"Thank you." You smiled as he handed you a mirror and you looked at your face as he wrapped his arms around you, burying his face in your neck. There were too many stars to count, some big, some small, all drawn and coloured in with a black marker. "It is washable, right?"

"What, you want to get rid of my masterpiece?" He looked up at your unimpressed expression. "Yes, it is."

"Okay." He reached over and turned off the recording, then leaned in, hesitating before you leaned in too, pressing your lips against his. He grinned, cupping your face with his hands, making sure he didn't touch the stars to smudge them.

You pressed into the kiss, and he smiled even more, pressing in too as his hands slid down to your waist. "Okay. I don't want to tire you out." He muttered as he pulled away. You groaned but turned around, sitting back up against your pillow. "Be careful if you're sleeping on your side, you might smudge them onto your pillow." You nodded and he stood up.

"Where are you going?" You asked.

"Shower. I'll be back soon." You nodded.

But by the time he got back, you were already fast asleep. He smiled and pulled the covers over you, then pressed his lips against your forehead.

-

"Hey! Y/n, wake up!" You shot up and almost headbutted Katsuki. You would've if he hadn't moved away so quickly. He looked at you worriedly, his face red as if he'd just run from somewhere.

"Yeah? What is it?" Katsuki moved out of the way to let Aizawa walk in. You pushed yourself up to sit on the bed. "What's wrong?" You asked Aizawa.

"Your grandfather's here."

END OF PART 3

Notes:

Words: 1681

this is a really short chapter i'm really sorry lmao. i cut most of it out because i'm not friends with the people most of these characters are based on anymore, and it feels wrong to keep in their specific character arcs and stories heavily based on them. before you ask; i did ask them to include them, and they even chose their names

i don't like what taylor swift has been doing lately, but her and her songs have always been central to this fic and i want to continue that

part 4 is where the corruption really starts. i would say we are out of the whole "nothing bad will happen" stage and into the "this is really bad and we're all going to die" stage.

this is the final chapter posted in this batch. hopefully the next chapters won't take a year to come out. i'm expecting to finish leaf in the wind soon--my first prediction was by the end of the year which doesn't seem to be happening now, but i want to get it all finished and written by my birthday next year, at the very latest. lmao this fic was supposed to be done september 2023/4. what a disservice i have done LOL

we are very much getting to the endgame tho. hold on for more angst, then fluff, then devastation, then who knows :) thanks for sticking around for all these years if you have, it means a lot to me
