Chapter Text
The next morning, Jax awoke to a loud knocking at the front door. He rolled over to look at his phone, what time even was it? Shit! It was already 10:55, after reading all his missed texts he quickly realized it was Stephanie at his door. His phone screen was covered with texts from her:
Steph: Hey, are we still getting coffee? I know we never said a time but if we wait too long the shop might get busy.
Steph: Damn man are you still asleep? Fine, I'll get coffee by myself and bring it back to you?
Steph: Yeah I should’ve just used your spare key and woke you tf up, the drive thru is CRAZYYYYY!!
Steph: Okay Im here now open your damn door or im breaking it down and not paying for the damages :3
He jumped out of bed trying to find some clothes to quickly throw on to open the front door and let her in but it was too late. The front door swung open with a loud sarcastic, “Jax I swear if I have to wake your ass up, how dare you make me use the spare key.”
He runs out of his room to meet her in the kitchen, leaning on the door frame crossing his arms over his chest and crossing his ankles.“Jesus, Steph, good morning to you too. I'm so sorry I overslept, I didn't mean to, please don't be mad.”
“Mad? No J, I could never be mad at you just,” she places their coffees and muffins on the table and looks at him, “just disappointed.”
She's laughing as she walks to him and she's so close he had to look down at her. “Wow, pulling the disappointment card, I must really be in trouble.”
“Yeah you knucklehead, I had to go to a public place alone,” she closes her eyes and lightly shakes her head “eww, I hate the public.” She opens her eyes to meet his again and a devilish smile forms, “at least I didn't use your middle name.”
He wraps her in a hug, hands right above the waist and leans his head down near her ear. In an almost whisper voice, “I wouldn't mind that.”
“Can we eat now? I'm hungry and I desperately need my caffeine before I can handle your flirting." She broke away from his touch and walked over to where she sat down the food. He couldn't take his eyes off her, does she realize how beautiful she is? She was the best thing in his life and he wanted her to know it. He needed her to know it, to see herself as he saw her.
“Lets take it to the couch. We can watch something while we eat and afterwards you said you wanted to talk.” He left to get a blanket for the couch and to set up the television.
Stephanie picked up her drink and made her way to the living room, “if you don't put on adventure time, I'm going home.”
Jax looked at the TV and then looked at her, the sound bar started playing the opening song, “I figured you might say that.”
They finished their muffins before the first episode had even finished. Stephanie was wrapped in her normal pink oversized blanket and laying on his shoulder as his arm was across her back and his hand on her arm. Then he heard a small voice, “J, about last night…” She lifted her head and turned her body to look at him and she crisscrossed her legs onto the couch. He took a deep breath in, was she gonna take it all back?
“Wait,” he lay a hand on her thigh and looked at her. “Please let me, Steph,” well here goes nothing, “I’ve been in love with you since the 7th grade. The day in art class, when the teacher asked you to be in the school art show, your face lit up. You had such an intoxicating smile that even I started to smile. You were so shocked that you were the one chosen that you couldn’t help but just stand there and stare at her, it was at that moment I knew that I wanted to make you smile for the rest of my life.” He looked away from her, “but I was too afraid to lose the best thing in my life so I tried to replace my feelings. It was so stupid, I dated girls trying to get over you and forget my feelings for you. I wasn't like Nathan, I always liked the girls I dated, I always treated them like how I would have treated you, but that was the problem, they were never you.”
He started to subconsciously use his thumb to draw shapes on her thigh and met her eyes one last time, “it wasn't until senior prom, when I saw you in that beautiful mesh violet dress, that I realized I could never get over you and I never, ever, wanted to. Everytime I tried to tell you, so many times I tried to, believe me, I just couldn’t. I would rather be single for the rest of my life than lose you and ruin what we have. Then you started dating him and I-”
Stephanie interrupted his rambling with a soft kiss, her mouth gently pressing to his only for a moment, but it was just enough to make him lose his train of thought, was this really happening? She moved away, her eyes looking up at him with that soft smile he loved so much, “Jax, if you thought I was gonna take back what I said last night, you really don't understand how I feel,” she let out a little soft laugh. She was still only inches away, she had moved away but not too far, like she wanted more but didn’t know what he wanted.
Once he regained his thoughts, he moved his hand from her thigh to her waist and used the other hand to cup the back of her neck, moving her face towards his to close the distance once more. She moved her hands to wrap them around the back of his neck and let out a quiet giggle as he picked her up and moved her on him so that she was now in his lap. Jax backed his head away, “what is so funny? Can’t you tell I’m in the middle of something very important.” His lips moved to her neck, starting behind her ear and then kissing down.
“It’s just funny,” he moved his head away from her neck to look at her.
“Am I really that bad of a kisser? I’ve always been told I was a great kisser, but now I guess I need more practice." He moved in closer, taking his lips to hers, deepening each kiss one after the other.
She moved back far enough to only talk but still close to where their noses were touching, laughing again, “no J, it’s not that. It is just funny because this, you, is all I’ve wanted for years but I was just pushing my feelings away cause I didn't understand them but now,” she pressed her forehead to his, “I don't understand why I was ever confused. I think I have loved you for a while and I’m sorry it took me so long to understand them.”
Jax looked up at her still on his lap and exhaled, “fuck you’re so beautiful, have I ever told you that?” He moves his head back so he’s looking at her, “I was such an idiot to keep my feelings hidden for so long.” He moves his head closer to her ear, “Stephanie Rose, I'm in love with you, every part of you, everything about you.” He moves his hands from her waist back to her thighs, “you are the bright light in my darkest moments. You mean everything to me.” His hands moved around to her back and he interlaced his fingers together, resting them on her middle back and he pulled her to him once more.
In between kisses she responded, “It's always been you, you are all I've ever wanted.”
Jax leaned back, “using my own song against me now are you?”
She giggled, “you were the one that wrote it for me. So technically, by your logic, it's mine.”
If that sentence came from anyone else, Jax may have thought that it was just a little cringe, but nothing she does is annoying or cringe. She was perfect and he finally had her.
He never planned on letting her go anytime soon, or at all. He wanted this moment to last forever, and he wanted many more moments like this in the future.
THE END :)
