Chapter Text

“Joon-ah, you idiot,” Yoongi whispers as he brushes the boy’s silver hair out of his eyes.

Imagine a pocket-sized you sitting on Namjoon’s chest and softly singing an incantation while moving two palms soothingly along the silver scar that flashes brightly above his heart (just a precautionary measure to make sure his heart has healed properly). You look up from your work to see Namjoon’s eyelids fluttering open.

Once the Hogwarts headmaster was notified of the events that transpired between Namjoon and a belligerent Yoongi in werewolf form, the Ravenclaw boy was immediately magicked to the castle’s hospital wing. The healers there were surprised, to say the least, when Namjoon showed up in blood-soaked clothing but clearly lacking open wounds. Regardless, he was still unconscious, so he was admitted and you and Yoongi refused to leave his side. Namjoon slept through the entire day, and you needed to reassure Yoongi more than once that it was more due to the effects of the faerie magic taking its toll on his body than to the blood he’d surely lost in the night.

It’s been nearly twelve hours since you’d found the two boys in the forest. They were lost, they were broken—Namjoon was dying. But now, nearly twelve hours later, Namjoon was waking up and he was smiling. He was weak, but he wasn’t dying. He holds out a hand for Yoongi to take, and for all of Yoongi’s grumbling, he doesn’t hesitate to move his chair closer, reaching out to take Namjoon’s hand tenderly in his. The colors of their skin contrast beautifully; stark moonlight and warm cocoa folding into a sweet embrace.

“So I’m an idiot, am I?” Namjoon chuckles roughly, “I think my O.W.L.s beg to differ.” He brushes his thumb over Yoongi’s fingers in his hold, and the Slytherin boy brings up his other hand so that Namjoon’s is completely enveloped in his grasp (you notice that, although shorter than Namjoon height-wise, Yoongi’s hands were surprisingly much larger.)

Yoongi closes his eyes, brings their hands to his forehead and mutters tiredly, “I don’t care if you’re the greatest fucking genius the wizarding world has ever seen—you’re still a fucking idiot.” He brings Namjoon’s hand to his lips and brushes a kiss to the skin. “What were you thinking coming out of your Animagus form? You knew you’d get hurt.” Angry tears slip from his eyes. “What the fuck were you thinking, Joon-ah?”

Namjoon sighs softly and removes his fingers from Yoongi’s hold, brushes the tears from his eyes, cups his cheek with his hands. He looks straight into the werewolf’s eyes and whispers, “I was thinking of you, and if I had to go back and do it over, I’d just do it again.” Yoongi stares horrified at Namjoon, who just frowns in response.

“Why is that such a surprise, hyung? Of course I’d do it again. You were heading for that cliff without stopping and I had no other choice!” Namjoon’s voice starts to rise. “I mean, how could a fucking owl possibly hope to hold back a fully grown werewolf bent on jumping to his death? Of course I had to change out. I had to save you.” Namjoon drops his hand from Yoongi’s face. “A better question,” Namjoon takes a deep breath, “is what were you thinking, hyung? You didn’t even know I was flying there—you were just going to—“  Namjoon’s voice breaks, “How could you even think to leave me behind?”

Yoongi falls silent, and Namjoon’s eyes begin to drift shut, clearly having over-exerted himself. Yoongi rises from his seat to run his fingers gently through Namjoon’s hair and over his eyelids, rests his forehead against the tired boy’s temple and whispers, “I’m sorry, Joon-ah…Hyung is sorry,” Namjoon sniffs in response, so Yoongi leans over and their foreheads press together and their breaths intermingle in the small space between their mouths and Yoongi whispers, “And you don’t have to worry—I’m not leaving you. Never again. I promise,” before brushing their lips together in a gentle kiss.

You watch this entire interaction with silent tears streaming down your face, finally understanding what exactly happened last night. Namjoon eventually falls asleep, and Yoongi remains seated in the chair by his bed, quietly gazing down at the unfortunate boy who fell in love with him.

Yoongi looks over at you and laughs, clearly having forgotten you were there. “Ah shit. Well, this is embarrassing. But you get it. He actually is the greatest fucking genius the wizarding world has ever seen.” He looks back at the sleeping boy and smiles sadly, “He deserves better. This was just fucking inevitable, me hurting him like this. But him saving me…?” Yoongi shakes his head. “I owe him my life now.” Yoongi wipes a stray tear from Namjoon’s scarred cheek. “And I can’t just push him away anymore.”

You ask Yoongi when this all started; when did he realize he was in love with Namjoon? And Yoongi stills for a second before a slow smile spreads across his face. He takes his wand, presses the tip to the skin of his temple just beneath his raven black hair, and pulls. A silvery wisp siphons out of Yoongi’s head, and after retrieving a vial from the shelves, slips the bright silvery substance into the glass and covers it up with a frosted stopper.

“Take this to the Room of Requirement if you’re really that curious. I owe you so much more for all that you’ve done for Namjoonie…for what you’ve done for us. This may seem like a small thing,” he gestures at the glass vial, “but not even Joon-ah knows about this. It can be our little secret.” And for the first time in what feels like forever, Yoongi flashes you his trademark gummy smile and laughs.

That night, you head over to the Room of Requirement and hug the glass vial to your chest. The door twists and morphs until it is eventually as small as a mouse hole, and you head in easily. The room is bare except for a marble basin in the middle of the room—a Pensieve. You fly up to the edge of the Pensieve and pour the silvery substance into the liquid below. Without wasting another second, you dive into it headfirst, and the world around you swirls madly until you’re staring up at a cloudless, starry night sky.

You sit up and look around, immediately noticing a younger and even paler Yoongi crouching behind a nearby tree. He’s frowning as he hisses something about “too smart for his own good” and “that idiot” and “gonna get himself killed.” You step closer to Yoongi and ask him what he’s talking about, but Yoongi doesn’t hear you. You look in the direction Yoongi is staring, but it’s way too dark. So you walk away, hoping to soon see what Yoongi is so worried about, and as you get further you begin to hear a boyish whisper and see small sparks of light coming from the tip of a wand.

You walk toward the voice and soon discover Namjoon, only he looks so much younger, maybe just in his first year at Hogwarts. He’s got his wand pointed at himself, and with every spark of his wand, some part of his body transforms strangely: first his nose narrows into a beak for just a second, another moment and his silver hair explodes into a nest of snow white feathers, more sparks and an entire left arm extends into a giant angel-like wing. He throws his wand down and plops his body on the grass. You walk up to his face and look into his frustrated eyes. You see that he’s staring at something so you lie down beside him and mimic his gaze. You blink and your confusion melts into a smile. It’s a crescent moon. The moonlight bathes Namjoon’s face in silver, and he lets out a strange groan of determined resignation and hops back onto his feet. He closes his eyes, takes a deep breath, and points his wand at himself again. Suddenly, the familiar snow-white owl is hooting impressively before you.

You hop onto Namjoon’s back and he soars triumphantly into the sky. However, if it wasn’t obvious that this was the first time he’d ever successfully managed to transform, it was now, because you quickly realize that Namjoon has absolutely no idea how to fly. He clumsily rocks back and forth in the air, unsure of how to go about catching the wind under his wings. He’s so distracted trying to get his bearings that he goes crashing into a tall evergreen tree, blacks out, and goes plummeting to the ground.

Just as you think that this story will also end with Namjoon in the hospital wing, Yoongi appears below you and catches Namjoon in his arms. Namjoon freezes up, but Yoongi pretends to be clueless and shows no indication that he knows the owl is in fact Namjoon.

Yoongi holds Namjoon up and muses, “What kind of dumbass owl gets knocked out by a fucking tree?” He laughs gruffly and pulls at Namjoon’s wings. “Not hurt anywhere, are you? Yaa…these are pretty good wings. Fucking use them, dumbass owl. Wouldn’t want a gorgeous thing like you getting hurt.” He smirks, pets Namjoon on the head, sets him down on the branch of a nearby tree, and walks away toward the castle.

You stay back with Namjoon who eventually flies to the ground and transforms back into an awkward first-year boy. You giggle to see his face completely flushed, and Namjoon curls in on himself, covers his face with his hands, and lets out a peal of adorably happy laughter.

As you feel yourself being pulled from the memory, you look far into the distance and see that Yoongi never left. He was standing on a cliff by the castle and watching the flustered Ravenclaw boy down below with a small smile on his face and a lovely blush blooming over his pale cheeks.

The beginning of a love story.
