That fickle feathery thing

Chapter 4: Bonus chap :)

Chapter Text

“So who’s this ‘Midoriya Izuku’ you have the drawing of on your wall?” Nana asked cheekily once they settled on the couch with tea in hand, blankets thrown over their legs. They were done crying (for now) and catching up with the obvious and now ventured onto more— recent waters.

“Oh,” Toshinori slightly blushed and perked up at the same time, “He’s— he’s my student at UA. Also, uh, also my successor.”

Nana’s eyes rounded out. “Well, you gotta introduce me then!” she declared, sloshing a bit of her tea out. “What’s he like?”

“Oh you’ll love him, Nana,” Toshinori chuckled, voice getting an excited chime, “He’s adorable. And very smart and determined. What that boy can do with quirk analysis is really something else. He’s brave and kind and has the most heroic spirit I’ve ever seen!” He gestured, spilling even more tea out. “He is a little bit— cooky I have to admit. The first time I met him, he just survived a villain attack and then latched onto my leg mid-jump just to ask me a question,” he said, laughing.

“Oh he sounds like a champ all right,” Nana laughed along, “Also sounds a little bit like someone I know…” she added slyly.

“Oh he’s much smarter than I was at his age,” Toshinori swatted, “Just as reckless, though. A bit of a crybaby too.”

“Look who’s talking,” Nana poked him in the shoulder, mindful of his side.

Toshinori scratched the back of his neck, bashful. “Yeah yeah… Anyway, I’m very proud of the boy. He’ll be an excellent hero one day. Heck, he already is.”

Toshinori looked at the drawing on the wall. His eyes got crinkled by a smile that reminded Nana of how Sorahiko used to smile at him, strictly when he thought nobody was looking.

“How’s Torino doing?” she asked, a tad more fearful. Mindful of the passage of time.

“Mad at me as always,” Toshinori replied, “Midoriya’s doing his internship with him right now. Well, he was doing until the whole— Hosu thing.”

“He was there?!”

“Right in the middle of the action,” Toshinori said with a shake of his head but coupled with a knowing smile. “He’s fine, though. I’d give him a chiding but I don’t think I can do anything worse than Torino. And I always feel— bad, reprimanding the kid. He looks so… sad after. Life reprimanded him enough already.”

“I knew you’d be a softie as a parent,” Nana laughed.

Toshinori spat his tea back into his mug, colouring it a bit darker. “I’m not his father just— well, he does admire All Might but— but more as an idol than a— uh…”

“Have you asked him about that?” Nana asked knowingly, “If you allow one word of advice from your ‘elder’, don’t put it off for too long.”

After a small pause, Toshinori nodded.

“I guess you’re right— mom.”
