Work Header

It's oh-so fitting (Can't cover it up)

Summary:

Unfortunately, it seems like the gods were not on his side once he heard someone clear their throat from behind him. He froze in place, his wings puffing up in surprise. He whipped around and found the source of the sound, Cub. He was looking at Grian with an unimpressed look on his face with his arms crossed over his chest.

“Cub!” Grian squeaked out, his eyes wide and filled with embarrassment. He winced at the sound of his own voice but kept a sheepish smile on his face as he continued to stare at the man who had caught him.

Cubs stance remained unchanged, but his glare at the avian deepened. “Really, Grian?”

-OR-

While trying to sneak out of Scars base in the middle of the night, Grian gets caught by Cub and has to come up with a quick excuse to keep his marriage a secret.

Notes:

I said I had nothing to post for a while but the air quality here kept me inside with nothing to do, so now this exists!

I might play around with this idea a bit more and maybe turn it into a series, we shall see.

Title is from “I Slept with someone in Fall Out Boy and all I got was this stupid song about me” By Fall Out Boy (Such a wonderful song title)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

The moon hovered over the sky of Hermitcraft, basking the land with a light blue glow as stars danced alongside it. The glimmer of the moonlight caught the faint silhouette of a man with wings tiptoeing out of the base that belonged to the servers notorious salesman. The man in question was stumbling slightly out of the base, adjusting his collar and silently cursing at the man that had covered his neck in red markings.

Since the end of third life, Grian and Scar had started dating. And after the end of season eight, the two had been married一and that fact had been a secret from all the other hermits.

Originally, that secret wasn’t intentional, but once they both realized how oblivious their friends were, they decided to hide it and see how long it took for them to realize. What they didn’t account for, was their friends making a server-wide bet on them to see when one of the two confessed. And the funniest part? They were never subtle about it.

Scar constantly called Grian pet names and various endearing terms, but everyone brushed it off as Scar being Scar. They were always close to each other, and Grian constantly fret over him after every death, but they all brushed it off as paranoia from the life games. They would be publicly affectionate with each other with a small kiss here or there, but the others always just missed it.

So no one had found out, well一no one except for Gem and Pearl. Pearl knew because she had been at the wedding, being Grians sister and all. And Gem had found out when she tried to pull a prank on Grian early one morning and found Scar in his bed.  It was nice to have someone who knew that wasn’t family, plus the extra bonus that they would go on double dates occasionally.

Now, Grian was attempting to sneak out of Scars base after spending the day relaxing in bed together. They had both been overworked with Grian returning to his sea obsession and Scar spending all his waking moments on his terraining. Scar realized once he had woken up that he couldn’t get out of bed without protests from his legs, so he called Grian and invited him over, who gladly accepted his invitation in a heartbeat and had been at his base in less than two minutes.

It wasn’t exactly sneaking out, but it was late and if they wanted to keep that bet open, then he’d pray to any god一Yes, even Them一 to make sure he didn’t get spotted.

Grians eyes darted from Cub back to Scars base, confusion settling into his eyes. “What?”

“You’re really pranking Scar when he’s having a bad health day?” Cub accused sharply, taking a few steps towards Grian.

The vex loomed over Grian as he glared at him with accusation, but Grian was just becoming more and more confused by the second. Cub thought…he was pranking Scar? His eyes drew up to Cubs glare, his wings pressing against his back at the proximity.

Cub thought he was pranking Scar, which could honestly be a good cover as to why he was sneaking out and keeping the true reason hidden and discovered at a later date.

“Uh…” Grian stuttered, his eyes darting away from Cubs to feign guilt. “It’s nothing harmful I swear!” His hands went up in surrender as Cubs eyes narrowed even more at him.

“Why would you even do it in the first place?” Cub pried as he straightened up his posture.

Grians wings relaxed on his back and he let out a sigh of relief as Cub leaned away, his mind raced to come up with an excuse but he knew any of them would just make Cub more annoyed at him. “I planned it for him tomorrow…when he’s better, y’know?” Grian shrugged, a sheepish smile on his face.

“And what exactly is this brilliant, non-harmful prank of yours?”

“Well if I told you it would take all the fun out of it” Grian said proudly, his hands moving to rest on his hips dramatically.

Cub deadbanned stared at him, then he sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose. “Pesky bird…” He muttered.

Grian stood across from him with the best proud expression he could muster up. “Well I must go now, since my plan has already been completed to perfection.” He said smugly, his wings stretching out behind him with intention to take flight.

“Hey just you wait a second一!” Cub called out, but was cut off by Grian launching himself into the air and darting back to his cave. Cub stared at his retreating form with a glare for a few moments before turning back to Scars base. “Guess I better tell him…” Cub muttered to no one but himself.

He made his way into Scars base and beelined for the other vex’s bedroom. He knocked on the door a few times and faintly heard the sound of Scar being startled from him yelping louder than necessary.

“Come in!!” Cub entered the room and his eyes landed on the other man. Scar had a turtleneck hastily thrown on and he was currently adjusting the collar. The brunette froze once he saw Cub raising an eyebrow at him, “I wasn’t wearing a shirt,” Scar explained, a hesitant smile on his face.

Cub shrugged and leaned against the door frame. “How are you feeling?”

Scar sat back against the headboard of his bed, “Better, I’ve been in bed all day so the rest has been doing me some good.”

Cub nodded and watched as Scar lazily picked at the skin on his fingers, “Well, my original reason for being here was to check on you…but I ended up running into a certain pesky bird.” Cub sighed, his eyes darting around the area in search of Grians ‘prank’.

Scar froze and his eyes snapped over to Cub, “Y-you saw Grian?” He stuttered, his hands clenched against each other and Cubs eyes went from analyzing the room to looking at Scar in confusion in his tone shift.

“Yes…he was attempting to plan some kind of prank on you, so now I’m here to warn you that there might be something off in your base.” Cub explained, watching as Scar's expression turned from worry to surprise.

“Grian…bugged my base?” The brunette asked in confusion, because he knew for a fact that is not what he was doing while he was here.

Cub nodded and pushed himself off the door, “Yes, I caught him trying to sneak out. But I should probably go now that I’ve told you, I want to get home before the mob situation gets worse.”

“Uh…Okay, t-thanks for telling me.” Scar said, waving to Cub as he waved goodbye as well and stepped out of the room, the door shutting behind him.

Scar sat in the darkness for a few moments, listening as Cub made his way out of his base before erupting into a fit of giggles. Good to know that Grian could come up with a good enough excuse when he got caught, his reputation certainly assisted in it as well.

He pulled out his communicator and tapped on his private messages with Grian, giggling to himself as he typed out a message.

<SG> So…Cub jst came into my room sying youo buggd my base

His messages were messy as his hands shook from his uncontrolled laughter. As he waited for a reply, his placed his communicator down and his head fell into his hands in an attempt to control his laughter.

A quiet ping from his communicator notified him that Grian had responded and he took a deep breath and held back his laughter.

<G> He caught me leaving :(

<G> I had to come up with something!

<SG> Well he bought it.

<G> Luckily…

<SG> Wll, if you HAD buggd my base, what wold you have done?

Three dots that came and went indicated that Grian was really thinking about that, it had to be something good, something believable. But Grian was the prankster of the server, he would come up with something.

<G> Well…

The next time Cub saw Scar was a few days after he had informed him of Grians prank. Scar was currently sitting on the grass staring at the area in front him with Jellie beside him.

“Hey Scar,” Cub announced, making his presence known as the brunette turned at the sound of his name.

“Oh, hi Cub!” Scar said cheerily with a beaming smile on his face and a wave of his hand.

Cub moved to sit down next to the man, focusing his attention on the terrain in front of him. “So, what’re you doing?”

“I’ve been debating on what to put here, so I came out here with Jellie and my sketchbook to come up with some ideas.” Scar answered as he practically shoved the sketchbook into Cubs hands.

Cub glanced at the book, it was filled with various Star Wars inspired buildings as well as other terraining concepts  and various other ideas. “Oh wow,” Cub muttered in awe, “You’ve really been thinking.”

“My few days of rest did that for me.” Scar joked, “Grian did stop by earlier and gave me a couple ideas.”

Cub turned to Scar at the mention of Grian, reminding him of the prank the avian tried to pull a few days ago. “Speaking of Grian…did you ever find out what that prank of his was?”

Scar went blank for a few moments, a look of confusion on his face, then it dawned on him. “Ohhhh, that.” He remembered, he turned back to the area in front of him and spoke, “Yeah it was nothing serious. Just one of his feathers tied up to my ceiling, it was rigged to a trapdoor that opened to a small hole filled with water.” He shrugged and reached into his pocket and presented the feather to verify this ‘prank’.

Cub stared at the feather then back at Scar, “So…did you do anything about it?”

“What do you mean?” Scar asked, an arch of confusion on his brow.

“Y’know…while he was here? Did you dig into him about pranking you when you weren’t feeling well?”

“Oh, not really.” The brunette answered, turning away and lying down on the sloped hill. “I did bring it up at the end, he ended up leaving in a bit of shame.” And a few new marks on his neck. He didn’t say that part out loud, but a small smirk creped up onto his face.

Cub sat quiet for a bit before shrugging his shoulders and standing up, if that's how Scar wanted to handle it; then that's how Scar handled it. “Well, I’ve got to head out. Good luck with your ideas.”

“Okay! Bye Cub” Scar waved goodbye to his friend as he activated his elytra and flew off. He watched Cubs form fade into the horizon then sat up and pulled out his communicator.

<SG> He bought it

<G> Oh thank goodness

<G> Our secret lives another day

<SG> and soon those diamonds will be ours >:D

Ever since Gem found out they decided to rig the bet. Before she knew about them, she had betted that they would get together around the start of season twelve, so now they were keeping it a secret until their elaborate confession plan and would split the diamonds evenly between the two couples.

Thank you Pearl for being an absolute genius. Scar thought to himself as he stared at the blue sky.

They’ve had a few close calls here and there, but ultimately kept it under wraps. Now they only needed to keep it going for a little over a year and they’d be swimming in diamonds.

Only if Scar manages to keep his hands to himself while they’re around others.

My FYP has been flooded with Bloodymary content, I'm living my best life here.

I hope you enjoyed and I have more developing ideas to turn this into a series, and with the air quality here I feel like writing is going to be my only cure from boredom.
