Work Text:
The siren’s of the upcoming ambulances could be heard from the very entrance of the hospital — each one of them came rushing in as they started deploying numerous of injured patients inside the hospital. The patients came running desperately wanting to be aid by the staff, some pushed each other in the process, every now and then an ambulance would make an appearance to drop the injured animals, causing the staff to slowly grow *tired* from the amount of anomalies attacks they had become far more frequent lately.
Despite the increased in patients, the animals available at the time to take care of the injured was way too understaffed, making it so mistakes could be made. A loud noise could be heard all the way from the front desk indicating that a patient had died — Secretary whom was taking a small nap from the constant need to remain awake on checking in patients or making sure no anomalies could bypass was shaken awake by Nurse in a desperate manner.
“SECRETARY! PLEASE, WE NEED YOUR HELP ON TAKING CARE OF THE PATIENTS!” Nurse begged as she gripped her paws on the blue canine’s collar, “Ugh…Nurse you are going to give me a headache if you keep shaking me like that..” Secretary responded in a tired tone as he grumbled softly.
“O-Oh! Right…Sorry.” Nurse apologized as she finally let go of Secretary, she looked down to the floor in shame “But please, it’s only intern and I taking care of the patients…The both of us are way too exhausted, to the point that I accidentally grabbed the wrong medication and…Well….” She fidgeted with her paws, the guilt was making her feel uneasy.
Secretary gaze softened at the sight — he understood the situation at hand, it was way too many animals at once for the two, he sighed tiredly but gave a soft smile “Alright, I will help you guys, be warned I have no experience in this.” he reassured as he patted Nurse on the shoulder making her grin relieved as her tail wagged softly.
“I’m glad you agreed!” Nurse exclaimed as she grabbed his hand dragging him out of the front office “ I promise that I will invite you to drink some ice cappuccino with whipped cream and caramel drizzle at the top once we are done with the shift! I know you like that one a lot.” she added as the two walked towards the hallway, her offer made Secretary chuckle softly — some ice cappuccino is something he desperately needed right now.
“How could I back down to such an offer?” Secretary replied as the two came to a stop at the middle of the hallway, he then looked to the right wing of the hospital where he could see some pair of pale yellow bunny ears twitching slightly, Intern was rushing in and out between the rooms, not before they walked towards the two, Intern looked exhausted despite their expression remaining happy. They gave a small waved before rushing towards the other section of the hallway.
“Okay so, my plan is that Intern and I will take care of the left wing of the hospital. After all the patients in that area desperately need more attention.” Nurse explained as she lets go of Secretary’s hand before continuing her explanation “Those on the right wing don’t need as much assistance since I have already assisted the majority. Except one, since Intern needs my help on the left wing, it’s far more easier for you to aid the singular patient knowing the experience you lack.” She smiled softly. Secretary nodded at the plan, it was simple enough after all he did not wish to cause another patient’s death.
With a new plan in mind the two canines standing in the hallway went their own separate ways — Secretary passed through the right wing’s doors, his steps were slightly clumsy from his tiredness. He yawned as he took off his glasses to rub his eyes before placing them back on and looked towards the first room displayed in the hallway.
“Hopefully the patient doesn’t need anything drastic.” Secretary spoke out loud as he made his way to the first door. He softly opened it, the door whinced softly as his eyes landed on the unconscious injured patient whom was laying on the hospital bed.
The injuries on the patient were barely visible, they had a few bruises on their arms and chest yet lacked any serious wounds. Secretary gaze furrowed slightly at the sight, to have been brought in an ambulance he expected more lasting damages yet he simply walked towards the desk inside the room, the table had a small machine in which could detect what type of injuries the patient had with some mere blood samples even showcasing the medication the patient needed on the computer connected to it, although his eyes landed onto where some tools were displayed in order to start the procedure.
Secretary looked through the tools to then grabbing the syringe, expecting it for a few seconds before looking back at the patient. “Luckily they are unconscious, so this makes my job easier.” he said to himself as he approached the bed, gently lifting the patient’s left arm and injecting the syringe. The patient’s arm felt way too skinny, yet Secretary was not going to comment on it — After all lots of patients tend to make themselves skinny by the lack of nutrients causing them to arrive at the hospital for treatment for their bad habits.
Blood slowly made its way into the syringe and once full Secretary took it off as he placed it on the machine, he tapped the desk as he waited. Secretary wasn’t known to be the most patient his temperament could be easily triggered by the slightest things around him.
A thought came to his mind as he watched the pink screen in the machine load. There was a time in which Intern had commented on how Ron from accounting took good care of his hair, always brushing it with a small hairbrush he carried in his pockets. This comment had placed Secretary in a sour mood, he believed that the so called *hair* that Ron held was nothing more than a simple wig, an ugly one at best. Secretary had raised his voice at Intern explaining on how Ron had nothing on his head which is why he hides it by using a wig, one that did not fit with his fur.
Intern had replied by mentioning that Secretary was bald, such remark that had him fuming in anger, he was about to yell at Intern speaking his mind before he could even start he got interrupted by the Head Nurse who announced she needed Intern for a check up. Secretary grumbled under his teeth sending curses at Intern as the yellow pale bunny snickered softly finding it hilarious how easy was to anger the blue canine at the front desk.
A ‘ding’ interrupted his train of thoughts as he looked towards the blue screen of the computer, showcasing what the patient had. “Dried eyes and bleeding… Okay that is easy enough to patch.” Secretary said softly as he walked out of the room, yawning once again. He could feel his eyelids closing every second. He desperately needed coffee to remain awake yet just thinking about walking back at the front desk to simply return at the patient’s room was exhausting.
Secretary stood in front of the various medications displayed on their each section, his eyelids were closing every now and then yet when he caught himself falling asleep he would joint awake “I want this shift to be over already….” He said as he grabbed the bandages before he heard a soft ‘thud’ as if someone were walking down the hallway yet kept their steps light as possible making his long dog ears twitch attentively turning his gaze towards the doors at the start of the right wing.
The hallway was empty, Secretary blinked a few times in confusion not before noticing how a patient came out of one of the rooms as they held their head, their whole head full of bandages. Intern was walking right behind them before Nurse came through the surgery room as she called Intern for assistance. Secretary witnessed how Intern skipped joyfully towards Nurse, closing the door behind them.
Secretary shook his head as he made his way towards the other medication display quickly grabbing the EyeDrops. “Why am I on edge, it was only Intern..” he reassured himself as he made his way inside the room once again.
Softly wrapping the bruises with the bandages, the patient’s skin felt rough around some areas as if the fur wasn’t exactly *fur* itself yet Secretary paid no attention at this, way too mentally exhausted to question anything. He simply wanted to be done.
Once the patient’s bruises were no longer visible he implemented the EyeDrops onto the patient’s eyes, noticing how red their eyes looked…Could this be an anomaly? No, it can’t be. Anomalies normally don’t arrive unconscious after all their bodies weren’t as weak in comparison to regular animals — Secretary recalled seeing a patient rushing in with this particular patient in their arms as the two came out of the ambulance. The patient who carried them already left, they had not been an anomaly.
There were high chances this was not an anomaly, no animal would carry a dangerous *thing* knowing they could be eaten by them right after.
“…Once this shift is done, I’m taking more than a simple 8 hour nap.” Secretary sighed as he walked back at the desk in the room, placing the eyedrops on the table. Secretary groaned tiredly as he returned his gaze towards the computer.
Luckily, he was sure that this was his last shift for the day. Secretary yawned one last time as he closed his eyelids for a few seconds, maybe taking a small nap as the patient recovers wouldn’t hurt anybody — He crossed his arms on the desk as he placed his head between his arms in a comfortable way, he would just rest his eyes for the time being.
Unknowingly, right behind him the patient he had treated had ended up being an anomaly that had hidden itself within the rest of the injured animals. The anomaly rose up from the bed as it red eyes widened, those red beeping eyes landing on the sleeping canine on the desk whose back was turned.
Groaning softly the patient’s face split apart showcasing a new formed mouth within, its sharp teeth ready to strike. It felt hungry…The only source of food available was right in front, a type of green liquid would fall out from the mouth as it made it’s way towards Secretary whom was not aware.
Suddenly, the door of the medical room opened abruptly, before the anomaly could turn around and register the sound a gun shot was heard. The anomaly fell onto the ground within seconds as Secretary was joilt awake once again, jumping slightly. He turning around his eyes widening at the sight.
Aside from the now lifeless body of the anomaly lying on the floor — Secret Agent stood in the doorway, their ears hunched backwards irritatedly. On one hand they held the gun which they had used to shoot the anomaly meanwhile they used their other hand to support themselves by using the wall.
Secret Agent’s breaths were slow as their long tail flicked uneasily. Secretary stood there shocked as his tired mind still processed the arrival of the black cat in front of him before his gaze fell onto Secret Agent’s chest in which they were covered in some scratches, blood had soaked their white and black vest.
“..Oh my gosh, you look hideous.” Secretary commented as he remained in his place. Secret Agent’s gaze softened slightly before giving a soft chuckle “Is that how you greet every patient who requires assistance?” They replied an teasing tone, their voice sounded a bit hoarse as if they had struggled making their way into the hospital.
Secretary grumbled under his breath as he watched Secret Agent make their way towards the now empty bed, their steps being light despite how injured they looked. “I know you enjoy staring at me, nevertheless having some assistance with these wounds of mine could be beneficial.” They said in an playful tone as if their injuries weren’t there at all, their long tail swaying in a calm manner, their gaze focused only on the dog in front of them.
“Right, wounds of course..” Secretary replied as he readjusted his glasses, he walked past Secret Agent who only tiled their head to the side slightly as if they were studying the blue dog.
“You know, for a secretive agent you surely enjoy making teasing comments.” Secretary commented as he walked into the room once again with a medkit in hand. Secret Agent hummed thoroughly in response “I’m one to keep themselves in a professional light, but yes I do enjoy teasing you if that’s what you’re wondering about.” They replied with a smirk.
Secretary simply rolled his eyes at the comment as he approached the bed Secret Agent was sitting on, he paused for a moment, as he was now aware of how awkward this might be, he coughed softly as he looked away a soft purple tone colored his cheeks.
“..Could you um- Gosh this is awkward…” Secretary tampered out as he grew nervous, he had to patch Secret Agent’s bruises yet in other to do that he needed them to take off his vest in which to him sounded extremely awkward to ask.
Secret Agent simply blinked slowly as they tilted their head softly to the side “Could I what exactly? Apologizes my dear, but I could not hear you.” they replied. They did notice the soft colored hues on Secretary’s cheeks yet the sight only made them wish to tease him more.
“You know- Uh, so in order for me to patch your injuries I need to be able to view them.” Secretary explained as he rubbed the back of his neck with his free hand which was not holding the medkit. Secret Agent hummed in response before giving a teasing chuckle. “You mean, you need me to take my vest off. You could have simply asked, honey.” Secret Agent teased as they placed the gun they were holding in their pocket, keeping it secure and close in reach.
“You are well aware I do not mind taking anything off when it comes to you” Secret Agent continued as they took their vest off, leaving their fur at view. The scars around their chest were deep as the blood could be seen still slipping out. Secretary didn’t know if to be amazed or horrified at how calm Secret Agent was despite the nasty scars.
Secretary simply rolled his eyes “Yeah yeah…Let’s me just patch you up so you can go continue your job” he said as he placed the medkit in the mattress, opening it and started to clean the wounds with a cloth. He made sure to not apply too much pressure not wanting to make Secret Agent uneasy. After that Secretary bandaged them up, making sure it was secure yet not too tightly around their chest.
Once he was done he closed the medkit and placed it on the desk near the computer before turning around to face Secret Agent. “There we go, now you can go back to your wor-“ Secretary got interrupted by Secret Agent whom had grabbed his arm and pulling him into the medical bed with them.
“W-What are you doing-“ Secretary managed to tamper out as his blush grew feeling embarrassed by the black feline’s action. “Shhh, just rest alongside me for a while as my wounds heal” Secret Agent murmured as they hugged Secretly closer, leaning their head down to nuzzle the side of Secretary’s neck.
“..Can’t you just..Heal by yourself?” Secretary replied in a shaky tone, he wasn’t exactly fond of physical contact yet when it came to Secret Agent, there was something about them that made him feel comfortable whenever they hugged him, nuzzle their head around his neck or simply licked his head.
Secret Agent hummed in response. “Hm, nah. Besides you’re far too comfortable for me to let go.” they replied in an amusement tone as they wrapped their tail around Secretary’s ankles. They let out a soft purring, in which cat usually used when healing their injuries or simply feeling content and in this moment Secretary had no idea which one could be.
With a sigh Secretary just allowed himself to be held, he might be lying if he didn’t admit how nice it felt to be near someone in such an affectionate way. He closed his eyelids, no longer having enough energy to remain awake.
Secret Agent who was still awake noticed how Secretary’s breath had slowed down to a soft rhythm. They removed their head from Secretary’s neck to make sure that he was sleeping. They smiled finding the sight of the sleeping canine up close *cute*, with no sign of shame they licked Secretary’s cheek softly. A small soft pink tone blush appeared on their cheeks as they later then rubbed their cheeks against Secretarys. Their purring continued feeling content at being able to have the blue canine’s trapped against their arms.
Secret Agent’s ears twitched slightly at the noise of someone opening the room door, they didn’t need to turn around to figure out who were at the door since the two animals had revealed their own identities. Nurse had commenting how cute the sight of Secretary and Secret Agent looked together as Intern simply joked about how mad Secretary will be after he wakes up. The two animals at the door decided to leave them alone for the time being, closing the door once again.
Their departure was more than enough for Secret Agent’s to close their eyes and simply enjoy the warmth they so desperately craved.
