The echo of energy blasts and screeching metal resonated throughout the gigantic simulation room at the G.U.N. headquarters. Shadow the Hedgehog moved like a black and crimson lightning bolt, tearing through one wave after another of high-tech training droids. For him, this was nothing more than a daily routine to keep boredom at bay and perfect his control over Chaos Control. A final android fell, sliced cleanly in two, throwing off sparks that briefly illuminated the hedgehog's stern face. Shadow landed without a sound, exhaling a cold sigh.
"Pathetic," he muttered, crossing his arms. "None of this scrap metal provides a real challenge anymore."
Suddenly, the room's speakers emitted a high-priority beep, and an old but undeniably authoritative voice echoed through the enclosure. It was Professor Gerald Robotnik, the brilliant scientific mind working hand-in-hand with the G.U.N. high command.
"Shadow..." Gerald's voice sounded unusually tense, stripped of its usual analytical calm. "I need you to come to the underground laboratories of the Immediate Containment Sector. The Commander and I have stumbled upon an anomaly... an emergency that escapes all our calculations. Reconnaissance tactical teams captured a unique specimen within a space-time distortion zone. It is a living being, with brilliant blue fur. We have it confined in a reinforced titanium cell with energy inhibitors, but it is assimilating the magnetic radiation. It is uncontrollable, Shadow. Its speed and internal energy signature are defying every law of physics I know. You must come at once."
Shadow opened his eyes wide. A specimen with blue fur capable of jeopardizing Gerald Robotnik's systems and G.U.N.'s cutting-edge technology? The mere idea that another being existed with a potential to rival his own awakened something long dormant inside him: a mixture of pride, curiosity, and the dark desire for a true challenge. Without wasting a single second, he used his air shoes to skate through the metallic, armored corridors of the military base, descending toward the deepest and most restricted levels, where G.U.N. hid its most dangerous secrets. As he neared the sector, the environment became chaotic; red alarms spun violently, tinting the walls a blood-crimson color, while high-voltage electrical discharges and the screech of thick metal being forced from the inside could be heard.
When Shadow crossed the heavy pneumatic gates of the main laboratory, he found Professor Gerald Robotnik alongside several high-ranking G.U.N. officers, all watching in terror behind a reinforced glass wall. In the center of the room, a colossal quantum confinement cage vibrated with savage violence, and inside it was her. Shadow stopped dead in his tracks, his eyes fixed on the trapped figure. It was, indeed, a creature of such an intense cobalt blue that she seemed to react to the magnetism of the place, shedding an aura of wind and static energy that made her quills float slightly.
"Look at her, Shadow..." Gerald whispered at his side, adjusting his glasses with trembling hands. "We tried to use force fields to sedate her, but her body generates a kinetic bioenergy that neutralizes our systems. It is as if speed itself is her natural state of existence."
Shadow ignored the professor's scientific explanations. He walked slowly toward the cage, the sound of his heavy boots echoing with a heavy thud on the metal floor. He stopped just inches away from the energy barriers.
"Who are you?" Shadow asked, his voice booming with a dramatic authority that demanded answers. "You are not an experiment of this lab, and you certainly do not bear the seal of G.U.N. What are you?"
Instead of responding with words, the blue hedgehog reacted with the pure hostility of a cornered beast. Her green eyes dilated with fear and fury. She bared her teeth in a harsh growl that bristled the quills on her back, and with an agile leap, she retreated into the darkest corner of the cage, curling into herself to hide from the black hedgehog's gaze. There was no trace of language in her; she was a savage creature, an untamable female. Shadow stood frozen, staring at her through the glass. Far from feeling contempt, a strange fascination washed over him. In all his existence, he had never seen anyone remotely similar to him, a being overflowing with such primal power. He was completely captivated by the existence of that blue storm.
Two weeks passed, and the G.U.N. scientists, led by Professor Gerald, fell into absolute frustration. The blue specimen would not allow herself to be analyzed; she smashed needles, sabotaged scanners with electromagnetic pulses, and attacked anyone who approached the cell. On the verge of a total research collapse, Gerald made a drastic decision: to send Shadow into the cage to contain her and see if the Ultimate Lifeform could break her spirit. Shadow's first entry into the cell turned into a fierce battle. As soon as the gates opened, a blue blur slammed into him with the force of a meteorite. They fought with brutal violence, tearing up the metallic floor. The blue hedgehog scratched, bit, and let out deafening growls. However, Shadow, with his military discipline and superior strength, managed to dodge a swipe, wrap his arms around her torso, and pin her against the ground, immobilizing her under his weight. She thrashed with fury until she was utterly exhausted, breathing heavily beneath Shadow's body.
That encounter marked the beginning of a strange daily routine. Every afternoon, Shadow entered the cell; every afternoon, a savage combat of claws, teeth, and bursts of speed broke out. But as the days went by, Shadow began to notice a subtle change, almost imperceptible to the G.U.N. monitors, but evident to his instincts. The blue hedgehog's charges no longer sought to tear his skin; the bites grew clumsy, the growls lost their threatening edge, and the claws retracted before impact. The fierce battle was transforming, slowly and secretly, into a game. One day, after a particularly intense training session, both ended up on the floor, panting from the effort. Shadow expected the usual savage counterattack, but it never came. Instead, she slowly stood up on all four paws. Her ears flattened backward, and her green eyes fixed on Shadow lost all hostility, adopting a docile shyness. With cautious steps, muffled by the metal of the cell, the creature began to close the distance between them.
Shadow tensed, remaining alert, but he did not move. The blue specimen stopped millimeters from his face. For an eternal second, both shared the same air, feeling each other's warmth, until the creature extended her neck and gently pressed her muzzle against Shadow's, in a primal gesture of recognition and absolute trust. Before Shadow could process the way his heart skipped a beat, she took another step forward, rested her head against the black hedgehog's shoulder, and began to softly lick his neck and cheek, marking him with her scent, claiming him as her equal, as her protector. The electric shock of that contact shook Shadow to the core. A mixture of shock, confusion, and a strange warmth flooded him, completely shattering his iron posture.
"Agh!" Shadow barked, pushing her away suddenly and shoving her back with roughness.
The blue hedgehog tumbled backward into a sitting position, looking at him with drooped ears and an expression of total bewilderment in her green eyes. Shadow, with ragged breath and a face burning with confusion, did not dare look at her again. He turned around, activated his air shoes, and crossed the pneumatic gates at full speed, leaving the creature locked inside her cell.
Shadow burst into the main laboratory, causing the heavy armored doors to slam against the walls with a metallic crash. The G.U.N. scientists jumped in fright, but Shadow had only one objective. He planted himself in front of his creator's workbench, slamming both hands onto the surface.
"Professor!" Shadow exclaimed, his voice strained with a tone that Gerald Robotnik had never heard from him before. "What the hell is that thing supposed to be? What have you discovered in your genetic analysis? Her behavior changed. She stopped attacking. She approached me and... she marked me. I demand to know what the hell is going on."
Gerald Robotnik adjusted his glasses, observing a series of DNA sequences and hormonal charts flickering on G.U.N.'s main monitors. The elderly scientist let out a deep sigh, creating an atmosphere of absolute seriousness.
"Shadow, we have just deciphered part of her biological structure and origin. She belongs to a variant of the Morbis species," Gerald explained, pointing to a screen displaying peaks of pheromone waves. "The specimens of this species have an extremely primitive and direct social system. They do not court with words or gifts. The Morbis engage in brutal physical combat to seek out and test their mates. Although genetically she possesses the physiognomy we would associate with a male, her body has undergone an absolute and functional biological transition; she is a full female for her species, innately transitioned for reproduction. Most likely, during these past two weeks, while you held her down and dominated her on the floor to contain her, she completely misinterpreted your intentions. In her savage mind, you weren't helping my experiments; she thought you wanted to subdue her to breed with her. At this point, your strength and persistence have convinced her. She has accepted you as the dominant male, Shadow. And right now... what she wants is to mate with you."
Shadow opened his eyes wide, completely flabbergasted. His military mind, accustomed to logic, strategy, and control, went completely blank at such a revelation. He felt an unusual heat rising up his neck.
"What?! That's ridiculous! She's a wild animal, Professor, and I am the Ultimate Lifeform!" Shadow exclaimed, notably agitated, taking a step back.
Gerald, with the coldness and indifference that sometimes characterized his purely scientific mindset, glanced sideways at Shadow. He evaluated his creation's flushed face for a second and returned his gaze to his paperwork, brushing the matter aside with disconcerting calm.
"Well, if you want to give in, it's fine by me," Gerald commented with utter naturalness. "After all, you spend the entire day locked up training and destroying robots. It would be good for you to drain all that built-up stress somehow. Plus, it would allow us to closely observe her reproductive behavior."
Shadow froze, staring at his creator with a mixture of horror and absolute surprise. Without saying a single word, indignant and confused, Shadow turned on his heel and stormed out of the laboratory, ears flattened and heart pounding at a thousand miles per hour.
Over the following week, the dynamics inside the containment cell changed drastically. Shadow tried to maintain his routine of dominance, but the blue creature no longer offered resistance. On the contrary, her behavior became shamelessly flirtatious and provocative. The moment Shadow set foot inside the room, the blue hedgehog would walk toward him, gently swaying her hips, emitting small guttural noises that sounded like broken purrs. There were no longer claws or hostile bites. She rubbed herself against Shadow's chest, licking his white chest fur with insistence and caressing his flanks with her gloved hands. Shadow stood rigid as a statue, trying to push her away roughly, but the creature returned time and again, seeking his warmth with total submission and an emerald gaze laden with a wild, lustful gleam.
On Friday afternoon, Shadow entered the cell feeling strangely tired. Barely had the gate closed behind him when a thick, sweet, and intoxicating aroma flooded the sealed air of the cubicle. It was the pheromones of a Morbis in full heat. The female was in the center of the room, breathing raggedly, her body trembling slightly and her quills bristling from the heat. Upon seeing Shadow, she let out a submissive whine and lay on the floor, exposing her neck in an explicit invitation. Shadow took a step back, but the scent had already entered his system. His red eyes dilated completely. Suddenly, a wave of primitive heat surged down his spine, causing his own air shoes to spark involuntarily. His mind tried to impose sanity, but his deepest biological instincts awoke all at once. With a knot in his stomach and accelerated breathing, Shadow looked at the trembling body of the blue hedgehog and, for the first time in his life, felt his own body begin to crave this beautiful, wild creature with an uncontrollable urgency.
The sweet, intoxicating scent of pheromones finally broke down the Ultimate Lifeform's last barrier of mental restraint. Shadow could no longer reason. With completely dilated pupils and letting himself be dragged by the most primitive instinct, he pounced on her like a thirsty predator. The impact of their bodies against the cold metal floor of the cell echoed throughout the enclosure, but pain did not exist. Immediately, their muzzles crashed in a desperate, explicit, and savage kiss. It was a violent clash of tongues seeking to claim each other, mixing their saliva amidst muffled groans that echoed dramatically off the titanium walls. She, far from being frightened, responded with a feline urgency, tangling her fingers into Shadow's dark quills, surrendering completely to the hedgehog who had dominated her. The temperature in the cell skyrocketed. With eyes misted by the tears of the heat itself and broken breathing, she settled beneath him. Slowly, she opened her legs in a shameless, ancestral invitation, revealing her completely wet intimacy, glistening under the red light of the base's alarm. The blue hedgehog, whose wild mind could barely process language, made a superhuman effort. Staring fixedly into the crimson pupils of her captor, she articulated in a broken, needy voice the name she had heard from the scientists:
"Sha... Shadow..."
Hearing his own name leave the wild creature's lips set the black hedgehog completely on fire. What little sanity he had left vanished into the thick air of the laboratory. Driven by a fierce possessiveness, Shadow lowered his face and devoured her intimacy with his mouth. His licks were hungry, firm, causing the blue body to arch violently upward. She squeezed her eyes shut, letting out sharp moans and tossing her head from side to side; a smile of pure happiness and relief spread across her damp face. In her instinct, the search was over: she had finally found her other half, the male who would complete her existence. When the stimulation was sufficient and her body was completely ready, Shadow positioned himself over her. Despite the storm of lust clouding his mind, his military training and protective nature forced him to be cautious. The initial process was slow, tortuous, and dramatic; Shadow held back his superhuman strength, pushing carefully so as to not hurt her, while she whined slightly against the tremendous pressure. Seeking to anchor herself to her mate, she wrapped her arms and legs around Shadow's back, holding him with desperate strength as she began to enjoy the overwhelming sensation of being filled. The pheromones mixed with sweat, creating a suffocating and sacred atmosphere.
But the slowness did not last long. Once her anatomy fully molded to his, the savage instinct of the Morbis species demanded more. Then began the rough sex. The G.U.N. cell became the stage for a violent and passionate dance. They lasted for hours. The laboratory's echo was filled with an unceasing symphony of tearing groans, deep gasps, and the constant, rhythmic, and intense slamming of skin and fluids. Shadow thrust with implocable strength, losing the control that so heavily characterized him, while she scratched his shoulders, surrendered completely to the ecstasy of mating, responding to every strike with spasms of pure pleasure. The climax arrived devastatingly. With one final thrust that made the foundations of the cell vibrate, both exploded in a release of kinetic and biological energy that caused the exterior monitors to flicker once more. Shadow seeded himself completely inside her, releasing his flow while both let out one last muffled cry. Finally, silence returned to the room. The two hedgehogs lay on the floor, joined together, their sweaty bodies glued and their ragged breath slowly syncing up. Exhausted but with a peace she had never known before, she hid her face in Shadow's chest, totally submissive and happy, knowing that she now belonged to the Ultimate Lifeform.
Missions became consecutive, grueling, and strangely distant. Professor Gerald Robotnik began sending Shadow to the most dangerous corners of the planet, tasking him with operational deployments that required entire weeks of absence. At first, the black hedgehog assumed it was G.U.N.'s usual agenda, but as the months passed, the forced distance began to plant a cold suspicion in his mind. Despite the physical toll of the battles, Shadow barely felt fatigue. The laboratory's medical division had begun supplying him, and the entire elite army of G.U.N., with new, translucent blue pills. The effect was miraculous: any wound healed within minutes, fatigue vanished instantly, and a surge of absolute vigor rushed through their systems. The soldiers celebrated the discovery as the greatest scientific achievement of the decade, but Shadow could not help but feel a strange foreboding every time he swallowed one of those capsules.
Barely had Shadow's heavy boots stepped onto the floor of the G.U.N. headquarters after a long deployment when Professor Gerald Robotnik was already waiting for him with a holopad in hand, coldly breaking down high-priority missions for the coming month. Graphs, tactical maps, and coordinates filled the air. Shadow, however, clenched his fists and could not help but ask about the being that had not stopped haunting his thoughts.
"Professor... Before I leave, I demand to know what happened to the creature. The blue hedgehog. I haven't been allowed to descend to Sector 7 for months."
Gerald stopped dead in his tracks. Slowly, he lowered the device and fixed his analytical eyes on his creation, while a freezing atmosphere took over the corridor.
"Shadow... tell me something," the old man asked in a measured voice. "Are you loyal to G.U.N.? Are you loyal to my vision?"
The black hedgehog did not waver, responding firmly because his training and life purpose were tied to that answer.
"I have always been, Professor. You know I have."
Upon hearing those words, a malicious smile drew across Gerald's wrinkled face. He tucked the holopad away and turned around, gesturing with his hand while uttering a phrase loaded with dark satisfaction:
"Excellent. If you want to see her so badly, come with me."
The professor typed a series of commands into his digital tablet as he continued walking alongside Shadow through the cold and labyrinthine underground corridors. Stopping in front of a massive reinforced glass wall, Shadow could finally see the blue hedgehog inside a containment area. She had just entered the cubicle, moving clumsily, visibly confused and with a latent fear reflected in her emerald pupils. Professor Gerald, watching the scene with cold satisfaction, began to explain that they had finally managed to tame her; she was now much more docile and cooperative, meaning they no longer required Shadow's force or intervention to contain her.
Shadow remained silent for a few seconds, absorbing the creature's disturbing calm.
"Can I go in?" Shadow asked, keeping his voice as neutral as possible.
Gerald practiced a half-smile, laden with macabre condescension.
"Sure, go ahead. You can even have some fun with her if you want. In fact, based on the dates of her biological readings, she must be entering her heat cycle again."
Shadow crossed the pneumatic gate. Standing face-to-face, he immediately noticed the subtle physical changes in her body; she was extremely restless, ears flattened and a gaze heavy with deep, desperate worry. Before Shadow could analyze further, the hedgehog noticed his presence. She launched herself at him at full speed. Shadow tensed his muscles, expecting an aggression or the start of a battle, but the impact never came. She simply slammed against his chest, curling up with immense strength while bursting into tears. A painful amount of tears and sharp whines erupted from her throat, a cry of pure despair and relief.
Shadow's heart ached in a way he never thought possible. He wrapped his arms around the trembling blue body to comfort her, feeling the creature's fragility. It was then that she, making a superhuman effort while clinging to his fur, tried to articulate words. Her captivity and constant exposure to the scientists were slowly familiarizing her with human language.
"I... Sonic... Sonic..." she managed to pronounce in a broken, trembling voice, then looked up at the black hedgehog with tear-filled eyes. "Sha... Shadow... Is that... your name?"
Shadow nodded in silence, stunned by the creature's progress. However, before he could answer, a thick, overwhelming scent flooded his senses. Sonic's heat was in the air. Shadow felt his own body enter a scorching heat, immediately losing his sanity. Sonic, oblivious to her mate's reaction, was still trying to communicate clumsily, but Shadow grabbed her by the shoulders and pinned her roughly against the metal wall. As he did, the black hedgehog noticed a trail of breast milk leaking from her chest. Completely out of his mind, driven by wild instinct, Shadow lowered his face and began to suckle from her chest suddenly and voraciously. Sonic let out a whine of pain from the roughness, but far from pushing him away, she began to lick Shadow's forehead tenderly; she was genuinely happy to have her mate by her side again. With a lost gaze and instincts governing his every movement, Shadow devoured Sonic throughout that long night. On the other side of the door, Professor Gerald stood waiting, listening to the explicit groans of pain and pleasure intertwined with Shadow's hoarse growls.
At dawn, the storm ceased. Sonic lay on the floor with extremely ragged breath, exhausted, while Shadow, still dazed and out of his mind, stroked her fur gently. She wagged her tail slightly in a clear display of happiness and submission. At that moment, the gate opened and Professor Gerald entered the enclosure. Panic brought reality back into the room; Sonic immediately curled into a ball, trembling violently while looking at the scientist in terror. Shadow, regaining his posture, stepped back a few paces. Desperate not to lose his protection, Sonic tried to cling to him again, but the doctor barked a sharp "No!". In an outburst of rage and desperation to protect herself, Sonic lunged and bit the professor's arm. By pure military reflex to the attack, Shadow delivered a direct blow that knocked the blue hedgehog down. She fell to the floor in absolute shock; the betrayal of her own male froze her. She simply dragged herself away, eyes wide open, as a group of doctors rushed in to subdue her and take her away. Shadow tried to take a step to go with her, but the professor, holding his wounded arm, stopped him firmly: "Let's go, Shadow. Leave her."
Two months passed since that traumatic encounter. Shadow had been sent back out on external missions, but the expression of shock and pain on Sonic's face wouldn't let him sleep. Furthermore, his analytical mind kept looping around an aberrant biological detail: why did Sonic leak milk? His current mission involved tracking and capturing specimens of the Morbis species in remote zones. G.U.N. considered them mere beasts, but upon raiding a small, hidden village, Shadow stumbled into a radically different reality. He found a Morbis family; a mother sat on the ground, peacefully nursing her small pup. Observing the scene, Shadow's doubts transformed into alarming suspicions. He realized these creatures were far more intelligent than G.U.N.'s reports admitted, and they possessed the ability to communicate with one another.
Cornering the family with his imposing presence, Shadow pressed them and hurled a series of direct questions regarding their biology and reproductive cycles. The Morbis mother's response, translated between dialects and primitive gestures, left him completely frozen. He understood that in her species, biological bonds were unbreakable and that lactation only occurred after giving birth. Horror struck his sanity with an unbearable suspicion: due to the extremely accelerated reproductive cycle of the Morbis, the fruit of that night of heat two months ago must have already been born, and G.U.N. was keeping them hidden.
He had to check it with his own eyes. Without losing a second, Shadow returned to the G.U.N. base, bypassing the radars. He waited until nightfall and, moving like a shadow through the ventilation ducts and restricted hallways, sneaked back into the hidden medical wing of Sector 7 to check on Sonic's condition.
Peering through the small glass hatch of the deepest room, reality dealt him the most painful and inhumane blow of his entire existence. Through the glass, Shadow saw Sonic tightly strapped to a mechanical gurney. A complex network of tubes and bio-medical pumps suckled her chest mercilessly, constantly and automatically extracting a whitish, glowing fluid: her breast milk. The trail of the tubes connected directly to an automated processor at the far end of the lab, where the substance was synthesized, pressed into capsules, and packaged into massive batches of those identical translucent blue pills that he and the entire G.U.N. army consumed daily.
The truth crashed down upon him with devastating weight and infinite revulsion. The miracle medicine was no laboratory achievement; it was the distillate of the suffering, blood, and vitality of the blue hedgehog he had claimed. And the horror was made complete right next to the gurney: protected by a thermal glass container were her pups . Due to the ultra-fast gestation of the species, the little ones had already been born, and G.U.N. used them as the engine of her torture. They were beautiful, tiny replicas with dark fur and blue stripes, crying desperately, seeking their mother's warmth. To make matters worse, Sonic's abdomen showed a subtle but visible swelling; her body, forced by the chemicals and hormones the scientists injected to boost milk production, was developing a new, involuntary gestation derived from the laboratory's artificial stimulation itself.
From her painful captivity, she seemed to perceive the trail of his energy. She began to thrash on the gurney, letting out heartbreaking, sharp whines, calling out to her mate with all her might, pleading for the male who promised to protect her.
Behind the hatch, Shadow's pupils ignited into a brilliant crimson red. Loyalty to G.U.N., Gerald's orders, and his military discipline shattered into a million pieces, dissolving before a blind, murderous fury. He was no longer a soldier; he was a father and a mate reclaiming what was his. He clenched his fists until his gloves creaked, channeling Chaos energy directly from within. He was going to destroy every single wall of this base, kill anyone who stood in his way, and flee this hell with his family.
The blast of Chaos energy was devastating. Shadow held nothing back. The armored glass of the hatch pulverized into a million fragments as the black hedgehog burst into the medical room like a whirlwind of crimson and black fury. The scientists present didn't even have time to trigger the alarms before being swept away by the shockwave. With swift, precise movements, Shadow ripped the mechanical extractors from her chest and tore the straps binding her to the gurney. Sonic, weakened by the confinement, fell into her mate's arms, letting out a sharp moan but clinging to his chest with infinite relief. Shadow carried her firmly and, with a single energy-charged strike, shattered the glass container, grabbing the blanket where his first pups wept.
"It's over, Sonic," Shadow whispered, his deep voice vibrating with a promise of death for anyone who sought them. "We're leaving."
The general alarm of the G.U.N. base began to blare, painting the hallways a suffocating red. Professor Gerald Robotnik tried to lock down the sectors from the surface, but Shadow knew the structural weaknesses of the base better than anyone. Utilizing the heavy ventilation shafts and high-pressure underground sewage networks, Shadow engineered a vertical escape route. Every squad of soldiers that stood in his path was instantly neutralized with bursts of Chaos Spear. Reaching the surface at the main hangar, Shadow unleashed a Chaos Blast of apocalyptic magnitudes. The pure Chaos energy overloaded the underground base's nuclear reactors. As Shadow leapt into the void toward the dense vegetation of the adjoining forest, behind him, the imposing G.U.N. military base collapsed in on itself in a chain of explosions that reduced the laboratory, the research, and Gerald's legacy to a pile of ash and twisted metal. G.U.N. had been wiped off the map.
Years passed. Far from technology, wars, and the reach of any human civilization, Shadow built a sanctuary in the heart of an untamed valley, surrounded by towering mountains and thick forests where the scent of pines and wet earth permanently replaced the cold smell of ozone from the labs. There, isolated from all the pain of their past, they became a true family.
Life in the valley was peaceful and overflowing with a warmth Shadow never thought he would experience. Over time, the small pack grew. Sonic gave birth to a new litter of pups, filling the wooden cabin with little blue and black blurs that tumbled clumsily through the grass, playing at catching their father's quills. Sonic regained the cobalt luster of her fur and the wild agility in her legs, spending her days running freely across the meadows, though she always returned to the nest by evening, seeking her mate's warmth.
The captivity had left scars, but constant coexistence with Shadow and the secure environment allowed the blue hedgehog's mind to flourish. She was no longer just a creature guided by instinct. Little by little, mimicking Shadow's nightly whispers, she learned to master formal speech.
One night, while the pups slept deeply huddled in the nest of blankets and the hearth fire painted golden shadows on the walls, Sonic approached Shadow. She sat beside him, resting her head on his shoulder, and intertwined her gloved fingers with the black hedgehog's.
"Shadow..." she pronounced in a soft, clear voice, free of the whines of the past. Shadow looked at her, losing himself in the emerald green of her eyes. "I... love Shadow. Forever."
Shadow's chest tightened with a mixture of intense emotion and a silent guilt that never entirely left him. He knew that, due to the traumas of her origin and the nature of her forced biological transition by the environment, Sonic would always depend on him. She depended on his strength to protect the valley, his guidance to understand the world, and his presence to maintain peace in her mind, which still retained savage traits. Shadow carried the weight of remembering the pills, knowing the role he involuntarily played in her initial torment by consuming the fruits of her confinement.
However, seeing Sonic's pure smile and hearing the declaration that sealed their destiny, Shadow pressed a tender kiss to the blue hedgehog's forehead, holding her tightly against his chest.
"And I love you, Sonic," Shadow replied with unshakeable solemnity. "Always."
It didn't matter how much guilt he carried on his back or how difficult the road ahead might be; Shadow would dedicate every second of his immortality to keeping his family safe and making the absolute effort to ensure the happiness of the beautiful blue hedgehog he had once found trapped in a cage.
