Work Text:
The Moon chose to be a woman who loves the Sea. The Sea is as fluid as they come, attraction falling and rising like the waves that crash against the land from her rage. The Sky is the one who separates them for eternity in a punishment he did not agree to. The Sun is an observer; not quite close enough to be involved but certainly close enough to observe.
The Moon is a woman. The body she was originally given wasn’t correct so she changed it to better suit her. Now she lives in the Sky, separated from her lover for a dispute so long ago it has long since been forgotten. She does not love the sky as she is supposed to, she loves him like the Earth loves the meteors that pass by. She loves him like she is not supposed to. Her true lover is unable to be with her. She sees her lover at night, when she is at her brightest and the Sea is at her darkest.
The Sea is her lover. She is bound to her planet prison forever, subjected to only seeing her celestial lover from afar. Her love is free like her waves but contained like her body. The Earth contains her, trapping her in a prison that she will never leave. She sees her lover in her brightest moments while she is only ever seen in her darkest.
Both the Moon and the Sea will never know each other fully. The way they are separated means they can never see the inner turmoil of each other. The Sea will never see the Moon's flaws. She will never see the craters that line her skin or the darkest parts of her. Similarly, the Moon will never truly see the Sea. She will only know the dark while not knowing how far that darkness goes. Both will seem perfect to the other while not truly knowing themselves or their lover.
The Sky is the one that separates them. He is the barrier between the 2 of them, separating them until the world ends and even after that. He loves the Moon but not in the way he’s supposed to. He loved the Moon in her other body - the one from before she changed; his love for her changed, changed into something far more different from what the Moon and the Sea had. Now one too far away catches his eye - the Sun.
The Sun is the observer. He sees the way the Sea and the Moon long for each other and he sees how the Sky separates them. He sees the way the Sky has fallen for someone new - him - and he knows they will never be able to meet. The Sun is the observer. He is far enough away to not get involved no matter how desperately he wants to be and sees how they will be left to their punishments for eternity.
The Stars and the Clouds are messengers.
The Stars remind the Sea that on her lover's darkest days she will be back brighter than ever. They carry messages from the Sea to the Moon and vice versa to remind them both that better times will come. They remind the Moon to see the light and the Sea to hold out hope.
The Clouds are messengers for the Sky. He sends messages to the Sun in the only way he knows how to. They tell him when to calm down or when to brighten up. They tell him everything that is going on. They are the closest the Sky and the Sun will ever get.
