You Don't Need To Explain

Summary:

3 times Will explains Mack's behavior to others and the 1 time he needed Mack to explain it to him.

Chapter Text

Will is back in Boston after spending a few weeks with Mack’s family in Vancouver. It was a jam-packed three weeks of Celebrini-branded chaos. Will is happy to be back home. He only gets the off-season to spend with his friends and family, he just wishes Mack came with him.

They have two more weeks before they both head to San Jose. They officially get their house on July 1st, but are not heading up until after the holidays are through.

Will is feeling the stress. There is a lot to do before they move. One of which is organizing all their furniture, of which they have none. He spent hours researching and reviewing all the furniture stores in San Jose. He wants to ensure they can deliver on the day they arrive. As much as he is excited about moving in with Mack, he doesn’t particularly want to spend their first night in their new place sleeping on the floor.

They are renting a 3-bedroom house near the rink. It’s a big step for them as adults and for their relationship. Neither of them has ever rented a house before, nor have they lived with their significant others.

Although they decided to move in together before they started dating, they ultimately decided not to change their plans once they changed their relationship status.

Will has the cart full of the furniture they need. Grace helped him pick out a bunch of stuff so that it’s all cohesive with the house. Or whatever that even means. He enjoys picking stuff out, but he still needs some help.

With Grace next to him, he calls Mack. Grace insisted they double-check with him before he places the order.

“Hi babe,” Mack says as he answers the FaceTime.

“Hey,” Will replies as he sets up the phone on the table so Mack can see that Grace is there as well.

“Hi Grace,” he says when he notices her. She waves in return.

“Okay, so I have everything picked everything out. Do you want to see it before I order it all?”

“For our house?” Mack questions.

“Yeah,” Will replies with a smile on his face. Just hearing the words ‘our house’ come out of Mack's lips makes him excited.

“Um-“ Mack says as he putters around on the other end of the call. “No, it’s good. I’m sure whatever you picked out is great.”

“Okay,” Will says. He was expecting that answer, but Grace still insisted they call.

“I trust you,” Mack adds, smiling into the screen as he centres himself again. “Look, I've got to get to training, but I will call you later, okay?”

“Yeah, sounds good.”

“Okay. I love you.”

Mack waits till Will returns the sentiment before he hangs up the phone.

Will's focus shifts back to the computer. He scrolls through the cart one more time.

Grade interrupts his focus. “Seriously?” She huffs.

“What?” Will says, annoyance lacing through his tone. He really didn’t want to hear her complaints about whatever she’s upset about.

“He’s really dumping this all on you.”

“It’s not like that,” Will quickly adds. He wants to shut down whatever she seems to be implying.

“What is it like then?” She adds through a laugh. As if she’s amused by Will’s frustration.

“He gets like, overwhelmed by this kind of stuff. There are too many choices. It just shuts his brain down.”

“Seems a bit dramatic,”

“It’s not!” Will says back to her. His volume is reaching high levels. “You don’t know him, Grace. Don’t say stuff like that.”

Grace's eyebrows lift high at the outburst. Then she does something that surprises Will, she apologizes.

He and his sister have always gotten along, well, mostly. But once they got older the have been quite close. He knows Grace is protective of him, just like his mom. Which is why it’s taken them a bit of time to come around to his relationship. But Will is even more protective of Mack, and he doesn’t tolerate anything negative being said about him.

He knows Mack is different and his behaviour can be unique. But that's what makes him special and Will loves every part of him.

The two of them focus back on the laptop in front of them. They finalize their order and schedule the delivery. Will feels a weight lifted off his shoulders. He couldn’t be more excited about this move, and now they are all set.
