Chapter Text
School was stressful.
Scott knew this already, but right now he knew it better than ever.
Things had been quiet in Beacon Hills for a few months, meaning he and his Pack had time to actually focus on their schoolwork.
Stiles kept saying it was suspicious, but Derek would always shut him up with a growl, which lead to the two of them arguing. But at least it got Stiles to stop talking about the peace they’d been having.
The thing was, Scott realised he hated it.
They always did everything they could to get things back to normal, but now things were normal, he was bored out of his mind. He was almost starting to wish something would attack, but he kept that to himself.
“I’m gonna go for a run.” Scott muttered as he stood up.
The Pack were in Dereks loft, ignoring their homework to flirt with another member. Scott always found himself feeling like third wheel in every conversation.
Even if Allison and Peter were both single, Stiles would always give him a weird look if he tried to talk to Allison alone, and talking to Peter meant losing braincells.
“Everything okay Scotty?” Stiles asked.
Scott nodded. “Yeah, I just need to clear my head.”
Stiles raised an eyebrow at him. He’d always been good at reading Scott, he practically knew the Alpha inside out, and when he had embraced his Spark powers, it had only made his intuition stronger.
“I promise, I’ll see you guys tomorrow.” Scott insisted, forcing a smile.
His friends eyed him warily but nodded in goodbye. Scott returned the gesture, before he headed outside.
He walked straight past his bike and started jogging down the streets while he was still where people could see him. Once he hit the treeline, he let his Wolf run free.
He felt his canines and sideburns growing as his speed picked up, and he could smell and see almost everything in the woods, until everything was a blur.
He ran and ran until he was deep in the preserve, slowing down to a stop at a stream. He took a moment to catch his breath, before he sat down on a log, stretching his legs out.
He was that deep in the preserve that even when he strained his hearing, he could barely make out the sound of his town, everything was just nature and animals. It helped calm him down.
After a while, a strange scent – one that didn’t fully belong in nature – hit his nose. He instantly jumped up to face the owner, pulling his Wolf back so he appeared human.
“Sorry! I didn’t mean to scare you!” The boy there said, holding his hands up and lowering his head.
Based on his appearance, Scott guessed they were around the same age. He was tall, taller than Scott, and he had dark blond hair that curled around his head.
“It’s... It’s okay. I just wasn’t expecting to see anyone this far out.” Scott said after a moment, lowering his guard slightly.
The boy met his gaze, slowly lowering his hands, before he nodded. “I get that. It’s quiet out here, peaceful. I come here a lot. Never seen you before.”
Scott watched him walk over. “Yeah, this is my first time being this deep in the preserve.”
“Yeah, your scent’s all over the place, but never this far out.” The boy said as he stopped a few feet away from Scott.
Scott’s eyes widened. “You’re a Werewolf?”
That would explain why his scent was different.
“Yeah, so are you.”
“Are you alone?” Scott asked, his eyes darting around. He could almost hear Stiles saying something paranoid.
The boy nodded. “Yeah. The Alpha was killed not long after he bit me. I didn’t realise there was anyone else like me for a long time.”
Scott focused back on him when the stranger moved to sit down. “How long have you been a Wolf?”
“A few years now.”
Scott couldn’t hide his shock even if he tried, and the stranger laughed.
“Yeah, I’m pretty good at hiding.” He said with a nervous laugh and shrug.
“No kidding.” Scott mumbled, before moving to sit down next to him.
They were quiet for a moment, before Scott looked back over at him.
“How come you’re alone? Why not try and find a Pack?” He asked.
The boy was quiet, before he exhaled slowly. “I haven’t tried to find a Pack because I didn’t know there was one in this town, and I didn’t want to leave.” He mumbled, staring down at the floor.
“And I’m alone because I don’t really have any friends, and my family is dead.” His tone was lighter that time, like these things didn’t bother him. “Don’t apologise, I’m happy alone, and my family wasn’t great.”
“Okay.” Scott nodded, and the boy chuckled. “About the Pack thing... Do you want to be in one? I know you said you’re happy alone, but we’re stronger and safer in Packs.”
The boy shrugged. “I don’t know.”
He was then turning his head to look behind them, his eyes flashing gold for a moment, before he looked back at Scott.
“I think your Pack is looking for you. You should probably go.”
Scott just nodded, he had sensed them the second they walked into the preserve.
“Will I see you again?” Scott asked, and the stranger smiled a little.
“Maybe, maybe not.” He shrugged, before meeting Scott’s eyes. “It’s up to you Little Wolf.” He grinned as he stood up.
Scott looked at him confused at the name. “You’re not that much taller than me.” He grumbled, standing up. He then frowned, because the stranger was taller than him.
“Sure.” He chuckled, before he turned to walk away.
“Hey!” Scott called.
The blond stopped and turned his head.
“In case we see each other again, my name’s Scott.”
The boy smiled. “Isaac.” He called back, before he walked away, disappearing between the trees.
Scott couldn’t help the goofy smile on his face, before he remembered he was supposed to be heading towards his Pack. He shook his head, before he started running.
“Hey Scotty!” Stiles called when they were in view.
Scott slowed down to a walk the same time Stiles appeared next to him.
“I know you said you were okay, but you didn’t feel it, and you’re my best friend, so I had to check on you.” Stiles rambled as they walked over to Liam. “And the puppy refused to let me come alone.”
Liam rolled his eyes at the name, before looking at Scott. “Everything okay?”
Scott smiled and nodded. “Yeah, thanks guys. Now come on, let’s get home. It’s getting late.”
“Can we get ice cream on the way?” Liam asked as the trio walked out the preserve.
“No.”
“But Stiles!”
----------
“Seriously, I actually miss Supernaturals trying to kill us. It gave me an excuse to miss class.” Stiles groaned, hitting his head against his locker.
Scott chuckled softly at him, leaning against the one next to him. “You say that now, but I guarantee at the next issue, you’ll be complaining about the Supernatural world affecting your school life.”
Scott didn’t share he was having the same feelings though. He fully blamed his paranoia on his best friend.
Stiles huffed, before he turned around to slump against his locker.
“It’s human nature to complain about things we don’t have.” He muttered. “And even you have to admit Mr. Positive, it’s been suspiciously quiet for a while now!”
Stiles’ hands flew up as he spoke, and Scott dodged them easily. He was used to the near attacks by now.
“You really need to stop saying that.” Malia sighed as she walked over with Kira.
Stiles rolled his eyes.
“I mean it, one of these days something is going to attack us, and you keep jinxing it. I will fully blame you.” Malia narrowed her eyes on Stiles.
“Okay, how about we get lunch? The others will probably be wondering we are.” Scott interjected.
Stiles was instantly distracted at the thought of food. “Let’s go! Race you, Malia!”
The two grinned at each other, before they bolted down the hallway, leaving Scott and Kira behind.
“I’m happy they can still be friends.” Kira said gently.
Scott nodded in agreement. “Yeah, it’s nice. Now we just gotta make sure they don’t each all our food.”
“Sounds like a plan, let’s get going.” She said with a smile and started walking.
Scott went to follow her but froze instead. His eyes flashed red as he looked around at the other students around him.
“Scott? Is everything okay?” Kira asked, concern clear in her voice.
After a moment, he looked back at her and nodded slowly. “Yeah, I just... I thought I smelled something.” He mumbled.
Kira glanced around, stepping closer to Scott instinctively. “A bad something?”
“No.” Scott shook his head. “It doesn’t matter anyway, let’s get going.” He forced a smile, before he headed towards the Packs normal spot for lunch.
Kira watched him confused, before she rushed after him, not wanting to get left behind.
----------
The two walked over to the crowded table – Scott still wasn’t sure how they managed to fit so many people on one table, probably because Malia and Erica sat on the actual table, not on the benches – and Scott waved at his Pack.
“There you are! We were starting to think you guys had ditched us.” Erica grinned at the two.
Scott gave a fake laugh as he sat down opposite Stiles next to Allison, while Kira sat down in the space next to Malias legs.
“Just because those two are fine running around like kids, doesn’t mean we are too.” Scott hummed.
Stiles shot him a playful glare. “It’s called having fun. We gotta have as much as we can considering Jackson is like a fun vacuum.”
The blond growled in response.
“What you gonna do snake-boy?” Stiles grinned over at him.
Jacksons eyes flashed Supernatural blue for a moment, before he huffed.
“Shut your mouth Stilinski, or I’ll shut it for you.” He snapped, before he stood up and walked over to Ethan, who was laid on the grass a few feet away.
Stiles stuck his finger up after him, before he turned back to the Pack with a shit-eating grin.
“When he paralyses you, I’m not helping you.” Lydia deadpanned.
Stiles faked a gasp; his hand held to his heart.
“I thought we were closer than that Lydia!” His voice was a clear mock hurt tone.
The Banshee simply rolled her eyes.
Scott tried to keep his focus on the group, but it drifted nearby without him wanting it too. He could sense someone was watching them, but he couldn’t figure out who.
“Are you okay Scott?” Allison asked, pulling his attention back to his friends.
“Huh? Oh yeah, I’m fine. Just zoned out for a second.” He chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck.
Malia’s eye narrowed. “Liar, what’s going on?”
“Did you smell something again?” Kira asked.
Scott mentally cursed.
“Wait what? Scotty what aren’t you telling us?” Stiles asked, reaching his hand over.
Scott instantly pulled his own hand away. “Hey, we agreed no reading auras without permission.” He tried to scold.
Stiles just rolled his eyes. Scott briefly wondered if one day they’d get stuck like that.
“Don’t keep secrets that make us worry then. What’s going on?”
Scott was quiet, before he shook his head. “Nothing really. I promise. I think I’m just on edge.” He mumbled, forcing a smile. “Classes are stressful and... Stiles has a point. Things have been quiet for a while.”
“Thank you!” Stiles grinned, “I’m glad I’m not the only one who sees it!”
Stiles then launched himself into one of his rambles, and Scott was thankful for the topic change.
----------
Hours later, long after the school day ended, Scott was back in the preserve by the stream. He was sat on the same log, slowly relaxing to the sounds and scents nature and life around him.
Then he was smiling, because something new but not unwelcome was headed his way.
“Hey Little Wolf.”
Scott turned to face him, smiling.
“What are you doing out here?” Isaac asked, sitting down next to him.
“It’s silly... I wanted to try and see you again.” Scott chuckled nervously.
Isaac smiled. “Aww, did you miss me?”
Scott huffed fondly. “I wanted to ask you something.”
Isaac titled his head in silent question.
“Do you go to Beacon Hills High?”
Isaac hummed, before looking down at the stream. “Why do you ask?”
“I thought I could smell you there.” Scott mumbled, and Isaac looked back at him.
“You could.” Isaac stated. “My locker’s a couple down from your friends.” He shrugged.
“I noticed you, you were talking to some of your friends. But I didn’t want them knowing about me, so when you started looking around, I... I kinda hid behind my locker door.” He chuckled sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck at his admission.
“Nice to know I’m not going crazy,” Scott chuckled, “But why don’t you want people knowing about you?”
Isaac chewed on his lip for a moment, before he sighed. “Like I told you yesterday, I’m a lone Wolf. The more people that know about me, the higher the risk of Hunters finding out about me.” He mumbled, shrugging, and looked back at the stream.
“But with a Pack you’d be protected. Stronger. Like I told you yesterday.”
“I know. But the only Pack I’ve come across is yours. So, unless your Alpha accepts Omega, I’m stuck as one.” Isaac looked back at Scott.
Who chuckled nervously and looked away. “The Alpha of my Pack... Can be a bit stupid.” He mumbled, recalling all the mistakes he’d made over the years.
“But in our Pack, we make decisions like that together, so I’d need to tell them about you first.” He finally looked back at Isaac, who was still smiling gently at him.
“I think I’d prefer to be your secret for now.” Isaac hummed, winking at him.
Scott's face flushed slightly, and he looked away, trying to calm down his heartbeat.
After a moment he cleared his throat. “Okay then. This friendship can be our secret.” He said, nudging Isaac, who laughed.
