I've Got These Confessions

Summary:

You finally work up the courage to tell Din that you're pregnant.

Work Text:

“Din?” You say, fear and excitement flowing through your veins, “I need to tell you something.”

“Yes, mesh'la?” You’re lying down, propped slightly up by your pillow, and he sits at the edge of the bed, now turning to face you.

“Please don't be mad,” you say, voice growing softer.

“I won't be.” His voice is softer now, close to a whisper. He crawls back onto the bed and goes to sit next to you.

“I'm pregnant,” you whisper, barely able to get the words out.

Din doesn't respond. He doesn't move. Maker, if only you could see his face and know what he's feeling. “Din?” You begin to panic. “Please say something. We don't have to keep it if you–”

“I want to keep it,” he interrupts. He places a hand on your lower abdomen and looks at you for a little while before he speaks. “I didn't mean to scare you,” his voice is even softer. “I'm just surprised.”

You nod, less afraid now.

Din wraps you in his arms. “I'm thrilled, cyare. I can't even begin to describe how happy I am right now.”

“Me too,” you whisper.

“How far along are you?”

“I found out a few days ago. Probably a week or two if I had to guess.”

“Why didn't you tell me?”

“I just did.” You try to avoid the question, afraid of accidentally insulting Din.

“Why didn't you tell me right away?” He squeezes you a little tighter, pulling you closer to him.

“I was scared,” you admit.

“Cyare, I don't want you to be afraid of me,” he whispers.

“I'm not,” you reply. You really aren't. You genuinely don't know why you were scared to tell him when you suspected or when you knew for sure.

“But you were scared to tell me,” he counters.

“That doesn't mean I'm scared of you. I just didn't know if you'd be happy. You're an amazing father and the perfect husband, but two kids… I didn't know if you wanted that yet. I know Grogu's getting older, but it's still a lot,” you pause and look at him, but he doesn't respond, “I'm sorry.”

“You don't need to be. And I am ready.” You smile at him. “Mesh'la, do you remember our wedding vows?”

“I remember practicing the pronunciation,” you reply. You're a bit embarrassed you can't remember your vows, but they really were hard to say.

“Mhi solus tome, mhi solus dar'tome, mhi me'dinui an, mhi ba'juri verde. We are one together, we are one apart, we share all, we raise warriors,” he pauses. “Now we can raise another warrior.” He squeezes your hand. “And as long as this one doesn't have any powers,” he continues, “we'll be just fine.”

“Yeah,” you reply, starting to cheer up, “we just need to keep Grogu from teaching it to eat everything.”

“Yeah,” he whispers.

“Yeah,” you parrot, as he begins to press his forehead to yours.

“I love you,” he whispers.

“I love you too,” you whisper back.
