Work Text:

No one was talking. The house was quiet and no one dared to say anything.

It was an agreement in the Royal's home. One that took every ounce of patience from each family member.

There was his mom, who first came up with the idea. Roman couldn't quite comprehend how she thought of it, but she did, and they all loved it. He thinks maybe an old friend of hers who had been a teacher mentioned it once.

She presented The Game of Silence cheerfully, as she often was –she was the heart of the household, really. A fun silly game to pass the time. Of course, she knew Roman and Remus would fall for it immediately. They were rather competitive about everything back then, it seemed.

Their mom quickly found out how hard The Game of Silence truly was. She was always excited to show them something or to learn about their lives. She was often the one who lost the game just by telling them how much she loved them.

And then there was his mother, who didn't mind the quiet. Mother cared for them all, she really did –but there's something about spending the night wrapped in bed with a good book and her still warm tea that just worked wonders for her. Every annoyance from work or all the loudness accumulated under her skin just seemed to disappear.

Of course, she was the reigning chapion. At the moment, 6 times undefeated and counting. In the unusual moments where she took the loss, it was the work phone's fault. The twins loved it when it rang, but had to work hard to keep the giggles in, as to secure the win.

Still, mother didn't get upset when she lost, just shrugged and said it was a good break while it lasted, but she liked her family's bickering and yelling. She wasn't mad when her wife lost the game either, because it would often come as a packaged deal with soft kisses, promises of vacation and declarations of love.

So, there's a clear winner and loser, but the game wasn't played in two. The twins swapped second and third place all the time. They were neck in neck and really into the competitive spirit.

Roman himself, of course, thought he was the best. Well, aside from mother, but it was like the game existed for her. And really, to Roman, the fight between him and his brother was the real challange. Remus was loud by default, there seemed to be no way to shut him up. That's why their close scores were all the more confusing.

Despite being loud in almost every situation ever –and Roman was not exaggerating thank you very much– Remus was as silent as a pause in a music script when The Game of Silence was being played.

This time, Roman was determined to win. Him and his twin were tied yet again, as the board clearly stated so, hung up on the fridge. He just needed Remus to break the silence...

But there was something else stated on the board. A numer that just seemed to grow and grow, almost approaching their best score. And Roman couldn't let that happen.

The rules of The Game of Silence are quite simple: don't be the first to make a sound, enticing others into speaking or laughing is permitted and encouraged during regular hours only, and if the score rocks up to the most it's ever been, you must do everything in your power to keep the game going. In other words, in case of passing the previous high score, it becomes a team game.

Those were the rules, mighty and sacred. They were to be respected at all times. Therefore, Roman needed to make Remus lose fast, as the current number grew more and more. And it's not like Roman didn't like playing as a team, but now they were tied, and a tie always needs a tie breaker.

Roman's moms were in their room downstairs, enjoying the silence and probably cuddling. Roman left his room quietly before reaching Remus's door across the hall and opening it with full force.

Remus laid on his bed, with his head dangling over the edge of the bed, upside down, clearly unimpressed.

Roman reached across the wall and turned off the light in Remus's room. Oh but Roman, don't you know Remus likes the dark? Of course he does, lovely reader, which is why he turns the bright light back on after three seconds. And then he turns it off again. And then he turns it on again.

Remus rolls off the bed and lunges at Roman, who dashes off towards his room. Remus uses his slippery socks to slide across the floor and cut Roman off before he could enter the lockable bathroom. Roman rushes out of there, escape plan having failed. He heads towards his room inevitably, but Remus slips right through the door as Roman flings it closed just a little bit too slow. Roman barely has time to think before his brother tackles him, both almost flying with the force of his push and landing on Roman's bed, Remus sprawled all over him.

In all honesty, Roman would've tried an evasive maneuver if he wasn't so preoccupied with trying not to whimper. Or sigh. Or do anything stupid that wouldn't be worth it, even if his brain was telling him what a great way it was to make his brother lose.

Remus seemed suspicious of his rigid state and lack of response (both physical or verbal). He pressed Roman further into the bed, using more force to pin him down and damn it was it not entirely unfair how Remus seemed to be adored by the gods of glow ups. He got muscles from casual running or lifting weights when Roman had to do extensive cardio and follow a strict exercise routine. Even Remus's trash foods were doing the same job as Roman's well thought out filling meals. Roman was begining to suspect Remus got abs from laughing at this point.

The low buzz of pressure being lessened suddenly brought him back in his body and he saw Remus give him a puzzling look.

Roman felt a breath escape him as he stared directly into Remus's green eyes, thoughts of about twenty different ways to make Remus make a sound finding their way to his brain.

Remus's face shifted, intrigued. Roman felt Remus lower himself more, elbows propped on either side of his head. A hand made its way through Roman's hair and his eyes fluttered shut, mind reminding him to keep breathing.

He felt his pulse quicken, beat-beat-beat-beat-beating. His heart was doing jumping jacks now, he was sure of it.

Roman felt his lips be touched and that was enough to make him open his eyes.

Remus's other hand laid on Roman's chin, his thumb gently caressing his bottom lip. And oh. Oh. Remus's eyes were filled with an intensity he'd never seen before. A smirk rested easily on Remus's face, almost hungry-like. And Roman couldn't move his eyes away from it.

Remus's smirk turned into a grin and Roman could see his tongue make an appearance, wetting his lips.

The hand kept cradling through his hair and the thumb wasn't making a move to get away and Roman was so so weak.

He willed his arms to move around Remus's waist, with one hand ending up higher, on his upper back. He swallowed nervously before opening his mouth and lightly sucking on the tip of Remus's thumb.

Roman felt Remus's entire demeanour catch on fire, and not a second later, his twin's mouth took over his. The hand on his hair stilled whilst the one on his chin was somewhere above his head on the bed, keeping Remus pressed into him just enough for his body to shiver with pleasure.

Roman's own hand moved to Remus's hair, tugging him down into a deeper kiss. Remus kissed him breathless, tongue exploring every bit of Roman's mouth. It took everything in Roman to resist moaning into Remus. He'd never gotten kissed like this before in his life. He was sure it'd never be as good with anyone else. After all, this was Remus.

His mind, his mouth and his body were all enjoying Remus as if he was his own personal sourse of oxygen.

"Fuck, Ro." Remus's raspy voice scratched every inch of his brain as he took a large breath of air before being kissed soundly again by Remus.

This time, he allowed himself to moan into his twin's mouth, and he felt waves of desperation and pleasure rolling off of his brother and trailing into every fiber of his being.

The kiss lasted for a long while and was followed by more kisses. The passion faded away, leaving the two almost out of breath, and Roman could feel Remus shorten the lenght of their kisses. His tongue was back in his own mouth, but his lips kept pressing themselves to Roman's.

Roman felt his heart do a little cheer in his chest as he smiled into a kiss Remus planted on his mouth. He could feel him grinning against him, so he opened his eyes.

The sight before him, of a messy haired Remus in his lap with his lips swollen and red made him proud. Remus's green eyes opened wide, almost like they were taking in every detail in front of them. Roman could only imagine his own reflection as he self-contiously ran a hand through his hair.

Remus laughed softly, but still in that manic way of his that made him Remus, and rested his head on Roman's shoulder.

Roman's arms hugged his brother before he could even think about it. He drew circles into Remus's back in a soothing manner almost by instinct.

Words simply couldn't describe what he was feeling, what he was thinking, how much Remus meant to him. He figured Remus thought that too, by the look of adoration written all over his face. They didn't need to say anything. Words just simply weren't enough for Roman and Remus. And that's alright. They can understand each other perfectly. Roman thought about writing some poetry though. When the muse showed, it showed. You simply take its hand and fly.

They stood like that for a long time, cuddling in Roman's bed. They were announced that dinner was ready in the family groupchat and fled downstairs after only a few stolen kisses.

Mother smiled as they entered the kitched, raising a brow towards the pair.

"Remus lost the gaaaaaaame~" he sing-songed as he sat down at the table. He felt a punch to the shoulder and laughed.

"Well you two are just adorable! Have I told you how much I love you darlings?" Mom questioned, finally getting to show them affection. "How'd he get you, honey?" She asked as she got herself a portion of the lasagna in the middle of their table.

Remus sighed "He was being annoying with the lights, I chased him, it was a whole thing," he smiled viciously "but I will definitely get him next time" he warned.

Roman was a bit curious and fearful of this plan forming in Remus's head, but giving that away could prove to be traitorous. So, he simply cleared his throat as he took a large spoon of the lasagna.

"You know the tradition, dear brother." Roman teased him.

"Oh you'll see about traditions alright..." he said ominously as he got up and walked towards the fridge.

Remus swiftly added another line to his own row of loses. "You'll see..."

Mother rolled her eyes affectionately as she got her own portion of lasagna. Remus walked back towards the table and got his own serving of the food so they could begin eating together. Roman had no doubt he'd need a strong plan for the next Game of Silence in the Royals family home. And he was excited for what will happen in the meantime...
