Chapter Text
10:00 pm on a Saturday found Olesya Ilyukhina leaned up against the bar as she watched the tall redhead across from her take a sip of her beer and place her bottle back down. Her tongue darted out to catch the droplets that landed on the corner of her mouth, leaving Olesya mesmerized. The bar closed at 11, but Olesya wasn’t planning to stay that long. Hopefully, the redhead wouldn’t even have time to finish her beer. The woman tilted her head with a smirk.
“Got a quarter?” She asked with her soft lilting accent.
“Huh?” Olesya said eloquently. The woman chuckled lowly.
“A quarter? For the jukebox?” She smiled, causing her freckled nose to wrinkle. Olesya’s mind went blank, and by the time it tuned back in, she had already dug some change out of her purse to place in the other woman’s slender hand. The woman went to the jukebox, examining her choices before punching the buttons. Olesya registered the opening guitar of Just Like Heaven as the redhead sauntered back. This, she thought definitively, is precisely why Robert Smith wrote this song.
She marveled at how she got into this situation. Her coworker, Ryland Grace, had followed her on Instagram. Upon viewing his profile, she spotted many photo dumps featuring the very redhead that stood in front of her. At first, she had wondered how Grace had managed to bag such a woman, but when she stalked the woman’s profile, she had quickly learned Grace was very far from her type. One very embarrassing conversation with Grace had led to a group hangout, where she practically tripped over herself to get even one conversation with her. Somehow, that had led to her having drinks with Eva Stratt at 10 pm on a Saturday, hoping for more.
She felt like she could throw up. Every smirk and chuckle from Eva’s pink lips felt like a punch to the gut. The closer she got, the more Olesya’s nerves seemed to fizzle with sparks. Olesya considered herself very smooth with women, but something about Eva in particular made her forget how to function. Nevertheless, she had been dropping hints that she wanted the other woman all night. She hoped Eva was picking up on them.
“After this song, can I walk you home? You only live a couple of blocks away, right?” Eva asked, ice blue eyes scanning her from head to toe. Olesya flushed and opened her mouth to speak, but nothing came out. She settled on enthusiastically nodding instead.
“I need to use the bathroom.” Olesya squeaked, determined to get her head together before she was truly alone with Eva.
“I’ll come with.” She said to Olesya’s mortification. It wasn’t really a problem; Olesya was happy to be close to her in whatever way. Olesya nodded again, and they began pushing their way through the crowd. Eva quickly pushed in front of her, grabbing her hand as she parted the crowd with ease. Olesya was mesmerized by the sway of her hips in her tight, dark-wash jeans. Her long, copper hair swayed behind her, leaving a spicy-sweet scent in the air that matched her perfectly. This woman could not be real. Olesya was half paranoid she had made her up; surely nobody this pretty actually existed. She wanted to scream from the rooftops and tell the whole damn world that she was currently holding Eva Stratt’s hand.
She was so lost in her thoughts that she didn’t notice when Eva stopped, causing her to crash right into the taller woman. She stammered an apology as the other woman shot her an amused glance. The bathroom line was long, and more people shuffled in behind Olesya, causing her to remain pressed into the other woman’s side. The warmth of her body seemed to radiate through Olesya’s entire being. Call it feminine intuition, but she could’ve sworn she had a vision just like this. Olesya was glad she never doubted her gut feelings.
“I have chewing gum,” Olesya said as she pulled a piece out of her purse for herself. Eva held out her non-occupied hand for the piece, placing it in her mouth. Olesya watched, transfixed.
“You travel sometimes for work, right? Have you ever been to Japan? Or taken Eurostar to France?” Olesya babbled. Eva stopped humming the song, giving her another heart-stopping smile. She shot her a sly smile, her confidence slowly returning as Eva answered her questions. “I’ve got a lot of things I want to know.” She said honestly. Eva tightened her grip on her waist. Every nerve ending in Olesya’s body was on fire. She had never felt more alive than she did right now.
“I’m a Gemini,” Eva smirked, “You?”
“Pisces, but I think we might go really nice together.” Score! Olesya had gotten her game back, even though she was really trying to ignore that patch of skin that had been exposed by Eva’s black tank top riding up.
Eva turned so she was facing her. She looked so beautiful in the dim half-light of the bar; the reddish light bulb above the bathroom created a halo around her hair. She looked like she had been hand-painted like an angel on the walls of Versailles; a work of art that almost seemed untouchable if not for the fact that Olesya’s entire front was pressed up against her. Her eyes dropped to Eva’s lips again. Her heart was beating out of her chest, so sure that if Eva closed the gap and kissed her, she might actually drop dead.
Someone cleared their throat from behind her, causing her to snap out of her trance. They were at the end of the line. Olesya reluctantly peeled herself away from Eva, but was quickly tugged into the bathroom behind the redhead. She felt her back hit the door as soon as it shut. Eva hovered over her, assaulting all her senses in the best way.
“Let’s go to my place instead,” Eva whispered lowly in her ear. She felt the other woman’s soft lips brush the shell of her ear, causing her to shudder. Eva’s breath breezed across her neck as she took a ragged breath.
“If you let me stay the night, I might just have to stay forever.” Olesya quipped, but the joking tone was lost in her voice due to Eva’s proximity.
The other woman drew back, just enough to let Olesya view the amused glint in her eyes before finally pressing her lips to Olesya’s.
