Chapter 1: What happened?

Chapter Text

In the year 1032 there was one´s a civilization, the members of this clan were called “The Watchers”. This clan was known to be the greatest of the religious groups. The Watchers were creatures that had wings that looked like a flashing void, eyes that could see endless worlds, and their vestments represented each of the godlike creatures.

Since the Watchers where the closest thing to a divine presence, humanity considered these creatures as gods and praised them.

These creatures had multiple powers, and each one was stronger than the last. So, when humans didn’t have the strength to fight by themselves, they prayed to the Watchers.

The Watchers felt responsible for them and decided to help them.

After that they became the base of a new civilization and era.

But everything wasn’t perfect, there was another tribe, known as “The Listeners”. These creatures envied the Watchers and how they were praised and loved.

This envy started a war known as “The fight of the gods”. The Watchers were forced to fight and protect their believers, and so they did.

All of the elder were called into battle, leaving the youngers to help the humans with their necessities.

Between the chosen ones, was the god known as “Xelqua”.

Xelqua was a lot different from other watchers, first because he was the only one that didn’t use magic or a mask to cover his face from the humans, which made him more trusted by the humans.

Yet the peace that he found himself in was suddenly destroyed.

He was in one of the temples dedicated to him, when all of a sudden there was a giant explosion, and suddenly he wasn’t aware anymore.

- “Ugh what a shity day.”- Pearl was just exiting a building, right before going to the parking lot and starting the engine of her car.

The ride back home was peacefully calm and quiet. She enjoyed this parts of her day, just being in the rode and hearing the calm lullaby of the distant birds, the radio and the car engine.

She loved living in the least noisy and problematic part of the city. Although she didn’t like to wake up early only to arrive in time to work, she couldn´t be that mad.

Just as she opened the front door, she was greeted by a little hair ball.

- “Hi Tilly! Did you miss mom?” – Pearl reach down to pet her dog.

She made her way inside the house closing the door behind her.

Everything was peaceful. She opted to take a bath, so she made her way to her bedroom.

Her room was cozy, covered with pictures of her and her dog, some of her friends and family.

The bed had a red sheet and the carpet was a royal blue, and in front of it was Tilly’s bed. There was a desk in one of the corners where she normally did her job, a nice bookshelf next to it.

After leaving her things in her desk she made her way towards the wardrobe and took a nice pair of pajamas and slippers.

In her way to the bathroom she made sure to grab a towel.

When she came out, she was wearing her dog paws pajamas and dog like slippers.

The evening was calm, so she decided to make herself some tea.

When she’d finished, she sat down in the porch of the house, enjoying the evening breeze.

But it’s funny, how a gentle breeze can become a tornado in just seconds (quite literally), after, Pearl was meet with a giant tornado rushing towards her house.

She didn’t hesitate or spend a second thought, she picked up Tilly and sprinted inside the house and hid underneath the dining table, she closed her eyes and pleaded for the Watchers sake to make it out alive.

She was waiting for her end, whispering to Tilly how much she loved him and hugging him tightly. The dog could also sense the danger and started to do little whining sounds.

Some seconds passed, which for Pearl felt like ages. After debating what to do, she gathered her courage and decided to look around. Pearl felt a wave of relieve as she opened her eyes to see that everything was intact, slowly she stood up and started sneaking toward the window. She poked her head out, when she saw nothing had happened she stepped carefully outside.

Thats when she realized.

Just as the tornado was about to hit the house it had vanished leaving a crack in the sky.

It looked like the outer space, full of stars and galaxies.

Then she was shocked to see something else in the sky.

Something like a shadow was falling out of the crack.

As she tried to look closer the realization hit the wolf hybrid like a bullet.

It wasn’t something, rather someone.

She sprinted towards the figure as fast as she could. She hoped to at least be able to save this life.

The fall became almost complete, but right before the person could hit the ground a giant pool of blood appeared beneath and giant blood liked tentacles emerged from the pool, catching the person.

Pearl was now breathing hard and took some time to recover.

But right after, Pearl was next to the figure examining it.

One of the first things she noticed were the three pairs of wings he had on his back, and another two pairs in his head. They were a gradient of purples, blacks, and whites. It looked like a god if you asked her.

Then she noticed the burns and bruises in his skin. For her that was enough. She didn’t hesitate and picked up the mysterious hybrid. Just as she lifted the creature the tentacles disappeared, as well from the pool of blood.

The creature was surprisingly light, had light brown hair and a pale skin tone. But it’s eyes weren’t something she could see, they were always covered by a pair of his head wings.

As she made her way back to the house, she couldn’t help but wonder, who the hell is he?

Everything felt blurry, like waking up after a bad dream. The only difference is that he could fell his body ache.

The last thing he remembered was a giant explosion and then, he was met with darkness.

He was in a resting position and was in something comfy.

Curiosity hit him fast and although he didn’t want to, he forced himself to open his eyes.

He was greeted by a pair of dark eyes and a white furred face. A dog?

Realization hit him fast. Just two seconds later he was sitting. His mind already rapid fairing with questions.

Where am I? what happened?

Those were his first doubts then as he looked around a more important question surfaced in his mind.

When am I?

Nothing, not a single thing seemed to give an idea of where he was.

It wasn’t something he could recognize, from the millions of cultures he knew nothing in that place look like anything he could recognize.

Just as his thought began spiraling a voice cut thru his thoughts.

- “Looks like you finally woke up” - He was stunned at first, the tone serios but with a touch of curiosity. He also noticed a silly accent they had.

He looked around until he met another pair of eyes. But this eyes where different, apart from the bright blue, he noticed they looked like a predator’s eyes, sharp and analyzing.

He didn’t bring himself to answer, instead he studied the person in front of him.

It was a girl (obviously), she has a pair of brownish dog ears and tail, a dog hybrid? He could hardly remember meeting any, but what really caught his attention was the fact that she was tall, like abnormally tall, yet he found even more amusing the clothes she was wearing.

She was wearing a double matching piece of clothes that had little paws of different colors decorating it, and two pairs of sandals that in his opinion were quite peculiar. They were dogs and had a lot of fur, which didn’t help the fact that this was a serious situation.

Then he analyzed her face, she had sharp features beside of her eyes, and long light brown hair that was momentarily in a ponytail.

And after deciding what was better, he decided to answer. Or better ask.

- “Where am I? and who are you?” – His tone wasn’t harsh, but he didn’t trust a complete stranger.

- “Hah, I should be the one asking you that.” – She said, at the same time she started to make her way to the sofa he was resting in, a cup on her hand.

”You just appeared of nowhere and now are asking questions? How rude.” - Her tone stopped being so serious and became a mocking tone.

He just watches as she sat down in the individual sit in front of him, and as she rested the cup on the small table in front.

- “Well, my name is Pearl Moon, but you can call me Pearl. You are also currently in the sofa of my living room” – She answered to his previous question with complete ease.

That erased some of the hostility he had, yet his suspicions still lingered.

He thought a little, before deciding to be a little polite.

- “My name is Xelqua and one of the chosen members of the Watchers” – After he finished introducing himself something in the air had shifted.

He was then met with a really shocked Pearl.

- “YOU MEAN THE WATCHERS, LIKE THE REAL ONES? NOT THE STORIES WE GOT TOLD IN OUR CHILDHOOD?!” – She now standing. It was his turn to be socked.

Pearl was standing, and her hands were already in his shoulders, shaking him violently.

He could only force an answer. – “Yyesess” – before he could continue a sharp wave of pain hit thru his body. A tiny whimper left his mouth as he used his hands to cover the left side of his torso, the source of the pain.

Almost immediately Pearl let go and urged to help with the wound.

- “Are you kay? You weren’t in the best shape when I found you. Plus, I was only able to patch up the visible injuries” – she said at the same time she had picked a bandage and medicine.

“I´m fine, I just...” – He doubted, he didn’t know what would happen, but the face this girl was making, a face of worry made him go against himself.

- “Well now that you mention that, it actually hurts” –

- “If you want, I can help you clean it” –

“Sure” – after that he started to take his ropes off.

His skin was a pale shade, probably because he usually used long sleeves. The silk was a purple shade with little sparkles and decorated with dark fabric.

As he finished to take off the top part of his clothes a giant red and black mark was in his side.

Pearl’s eyes widened as she looked the condition of the brunette’s torso.

It looked like a giant explosion had just happened from inside.

“What happened to you?!” – Her tone more worried than angry.

“Wwell… the last thing I remember is a giant explosion and then I woke up here.” – He tried to recall the moment, but everything was blurry.

Pearl noticed and decided to not push things. Instead, she started to treat the wound.

“It’s fine.” She said in a small sigh. “You know, at least your alive.” She offered a small smile towards Xelqua, to which he responded with a smile of his own.

Some of the tension left them, not completely but it was calmer now.

Pearl was just finishing patching up Xelqua when he suddenly spoke.

“I... uhm Pearl?”- When she heard her name she turned around to Xelqua.

“Yeah?”-

“Thank you, for… well, for everything”-

“Oh, it’s nothing” – She said at the same time she shrugged and headed toward the kitchen.

While Pearl was away, Xelqua took his time to look around.

There were paintings in the walls. Some of them were from Pearl, from what he could tell. Others were of her dog.

Suddenly his attention was turned to something else.

That dog was currently asking desperately to get pet in its fluffy hair.

Xelqua reach down trying not to get more hurt and gave some love to the little creature. As he looked closer, he saw a little metal in his collar, and he read it.

“Oh, so your name is Tilly, you little fluff bun~” -He said as he continued to pet Tilly.

He didn’t noticed, he was way to carried away on the mission of entertaining Tilly.

Suddenly a hand came right from behind him.

He got startled by a hand grabbing his shoulder, making him turn around so fast he could almost feel dizzy. He swallowed a scream the moment he realized that he had a laughing Pearl in front of him.

“HAHAHAHA. YOU SHOULD HAVE SEEN YOUR FACE!” – Pearl was clutching her stomach trying to control her laughter.

As she finally relaxed, she offered Xelqua a cup she had placed in a little tall table right next to the sofa.

Xelqua took it great-fully, yet he had an annoying look in his face.

“You almost scared the life out of me” – He said right before sipping his tea.

Pearl was still calming down but right now she made her way to the sofa she was seated before.

After a little while silence fell between them. But it only lasted for a few seconds before Xelqua spoke.

“Soooo, where are we exactly? I mean you did say we where in your house but exactly where?”-

“Well right now we are in the outer parts of HermitLife City. Why do you ask?” – She sipped on a tea of her own.

“It’s because I can’t recognize any of this decoration or even space, we are, it’s like… if this wasn’t my time… Wait what year is it?!” – Xelqua didn’t even register he was standing, sounding really panicked.

The pain of his wounds almost invisible to him.

“Wow, calm down, we are in the year 2096” – Just as she finished an altered Xelqua was already panicking.

“2096! O FOR THE WATCHERS LOVE! HOW IN THE WORLD I’M… 1064 YEARS IN THE FUTURE! This can’t be…” –

“Xelqua, you need to calm down, maybe there’s a reason for this, I don’t know.” -

“Pearl, you know what this means, it means the people I cared about, the people I loved are now dead.” – He was crying, he didn’t even register when it happened. He felt to his knees, clutching his chest.

His mind was full of thoughts.

It can’t be, no, they aren’t dead, are they?

His thoughts were already spiraling when he felt a sudden warmth around him.

Pearl had come to join him in the floor, and she was hugging him?

“Shhh, it’s gonna be alright. Breathe in and breath out”-

Soon Xelqua’s breathing became more normal, and Pearl was able to console the little god.

”Are you alright?”-

“Yes, sorry…”-

“No, it’s alright. If I were you I would also panic.”- She said in a soft reassuring voice.

It took a while; the sun had completely disappeared in the horizon. But after a while they were finally able to start a conversation again.

Pearl looked outside the window and saw it was already late and decided to leave the questions for the next day. She stood up and extended a hand to Xelqua.

For a moment he just stared at it, before joining their hands. Pearl helped him get to his feet and guided Xelqua thru the corridors. Eventually they reached a crimson door.

“This is where you’ll be staying. It’s getting late, it’s better to rest, we’ll talk in the morning” – She said with a kind smile.

Xelqua only nodded and headed inside the room. It was a medium-size room with only a single window, an individual bed with grey bedsheets and a small wardrobe.

“There should be clothes in those cabinets, and the bathroom is exiting right to the left. If you need a bigger size or anything you can just call me.”- That was the last thing she said before closing the door.

Xelqua was now alone with his thoughts. But let’s be honest he doesn’t have the energy to keep panicking. So instead, he heads for the wardrobe and opens one of the doors, inside we’re different types of clothes.

He didn’t have the energy to worry about his taste in style, he took an extra-large black jumper (although he is technically an extra-small); that way his wings would be more comfortable, some good saggy pants that where comfortable enough before going to the bathroom.

After he entered the bathroom, he didn’t hesitate before changing to the nicer clothes.

When he was done, he took a glance at the mirror, his eyes were still covered by his head wings.

He stood still for a moment, before he slowly started to remove the wings that covered his eyes.

They were completely dark, but in them millions of galaxies could be seen, and instead of an iris he had the watcher symbol in his eye. That wasn’t something that used to happen, normally they where just dark and had the symbol.

What the hell is happening?

After clearing his head, he headed back towards the room. The door shut behind him as he entered.

Xelqua send a glance at the bed before starting to approach it. He first sat at the edge of the bed before slamming he’s back against it.

His dark flashing wings scarred thru the bed.

He tried once again to recall something from the incident, but he wasn’t getting anywhere.

So instead, he moved to the center of the bed, before bringing his legs up to his torso.

Xelqua felt sleep hit him all at once, and before he was aware he had already fallen asleep.

To be continued…
