The hull of the boat bumped gently against the private docks of The Pearl. Stepping off onto the sun-bleached wood, James squinted slightly against the blinding glare of the Vietnamese sun, the air thick and heavy with the scent of saltwater and tropical blooms.

A smiling receptionist greeted him with a slight bow. She led him away from the docks, guiding him along a winding stone path that cut through the resort's lush, vibrant greenery. Towering palm trees and exotic flora lined their path as they ascended a series of grand, open-air stone stairs. The entire property was a masterpiece of secluded luxury, culminating where they finally stopped outside a sleek, modern structure.

James stepped inside his villa and paused to take it in, genuinely impressed. The villa was spectacular. It boasted a sprawling, open layout and high-class interior decor that seamlessly blended modern minimalism with traditional Vietnamese accents. There was a distinct lack of traditional windows; instead, massive structural lines opened up directly to a private infinity pool that seemed to spill right into the panoramic ocean view beyond. The sheer space was staggering.

“Alright, James, let's get to work,” Moneypenny’s voice chimed crisply in his earpiece.

Following her instructions, James walked upstairs into the bedroom area to locate the security box. Popping it open, he found a pair of sleek shades and a small vial resting against the velvet lining. He picked up the vial, holding it up against the ambient light filtering into the room.

"That's new," James remarked.

“Q-Trak,” Moneypenny said. “A smart bug designed to protect assets in the field. Once inside the bloodstream, it tracks location, heart rate, and vital signs for up to twenty-four hours before it's broken down by the body.”

James slipped the vial into his pocket and turned his attention back to the box. "And the glasses?"

“Q-glasses. They see everything, recording back here at MI6.”

"So you see what I see?"

“Yep. I get to live vicariously through you for the next twenty-four hours.”

James raised an eyebrow. "But why?"

“Once you get eyes on the potential targets, I can confirm their identities through the lens,” Moneypenny explained. “Pop them on. We're live.”

"Wonderful." James slid the glasses onto the bridge of his nose and checked his reflection in the mirror to his right. He adjusted the frames, offering his reflection a faint smirk. "Good stuff. And yes, I am this handsome."

A brief pause crackled over the comms before Moneypenny let out a dry chuckle. “Hang on. Ah, yeah, that ego of yours is fogging up the lens.”

Bond smiled, turning away from the mirror. "Touché."

“Alright, let’s make sure those lenses are transmitting correctly,” Moneypenny’s voice hummed in his ear.

James turned on his heel, letting his gaze drift over the high-end finishes of the bedroom. He walked over to a polished teak sideboard where a massive, beautifully arranged wellness gift basket sat. He leaned in, letting the Q-glasses focus on the assorted jars and bottles.

Moneypenny commented through the comms,“Compliments of the Tranquility Cave. All organic, gluten and cruelty-free. That's some next-level spa stuff.”

James offered a dry, faint smile, his eyes lingering on the luxury products. "Great. At least I'll smell good when Damien shows up."

He reached into the basket, lifting up a frosted glass bottle of high-end face lotion. He unscrewed the cap, bringing it to his nose. The scent was subtle but undeniably sophisticated - a crisp, clean blend of sandalwood and tropical cedar. Smiling slightly in approval, he dabbed a small amount onto his fingertips and smoothly applied it to his face, letting the premium cream absorb into his skin.

Leaving the luxury of the Loi villa, James followed the concierge as she led him along the path, walking upwards toward the main reception pavilion so he could sign the guest ledger.

As they stepped into the open-air reception area, James’s eyes immediately locked onto a strikingly beautiful woman standing by the desk, waiting for the staff. She exuded an air of effortless sophistication that immediately caught his attention.

Leaning casually against the desk near her, James offered a charming smile. "Tell me you're not checking out."

She turned her head, meeting his gaze with a cool, collected look. "I'm being upgraded, actually."

"Of course you are," James countered smoothly. "You must be important."

"Very," she replied, her lips curving into a tight, knowing smile.

Before James could press further, the receptionist behind the desk politely intervened, addressing the woman. "The Emperor Villa will be ready shortly. Please make yourself comfortable while you wait."

"Oh, I will do that, thank you," she said to the staff, turning to glide away.

James watched her walk across the polished floor, raising his voice just enough to carry. "I didn't catch your name."

She paused, looking back over her shoulder with a sharp, playful glint in her eye. "I didn't give it."

A faint, amused smile touched James's lips as he watched her depart.

“Attractive Mystery Woman: one. St. John Smythe: nil,” Moneypenny’s voice chimed dryly in his earpiece, entirely unimpressed by his flirting. Before he could respond, she snapped him back to reality. “Eyes on the ledger, James!”

James cleared his throat quietly, turning back to the reception desk. "Right, yeah. The ledger. On it." He flashed a bright, easy smile at the clerk. "Afternoon. Here to sign the ledger, make my stay official."

The friendly receptionist smiled warmly. "Mr. Smythe, we've been expecting you."

She opened the large, leather-bound ledger book on the counter in front of him.

“Give it a flick through,” Moneypenny instructed in his ear. “Just so I can get a look at the other names.”

James smoothly reached out and turned the heavy page, pretending to admire the book's layout to give the Q-glasses a clear view of the registry. The receptionist, assuming he was just looking for his designated line, politely handed him a sleek pen. "Sign here, please."

“Got what I need. Running a check,” Moneypenny confirmed a second later.

With practiced ease, James flipped back to the correct page, took the pen, and elegantly signed his alias.

"All done. Enjoy your stay with us, sir," the receptionist said with a warm, professional smile.

But before James could hand the pen back to her, a shadow fell over his left side. A man stepped deep into his personal space, deliberately crowding him against the counter.

"I probably have to sign it too," a smooth, painfully familiar voice murmured to the staff.

James turned his head, and the air left his lungs. His blood ran instantly cold. Standing a mere breath away was Damien Webb.

It defied all logic. Not ten minutes ago, Moneypenny had assured him that Damien had only just boarded a flight across the world, still many hours out. Yet here he stood under the blistering Vietnamese sun, a living ghost rewriting the rules of the game. James froze in shock for a fraction of a second, his heart hammering against his ribs before his training slammed his mask of cool indifference back into place.

Damien simply smiled, fully aware of the psychological wreckage he had just caused. He was dressed flawlessly for the climate, clad in knee-length beige shorts and a navy-blue, short-sleeved dress shirt left entirely unbuttoned. The loose fabric framed the smooth, sun-warmed expanse of muscle across his torso. A pair of dark sunglasses hid his eyes, and his thick, dark hair swayed softly in the gentle ocean breeze.

In James’s ear, Moneypenny’s voice exploded into a frantic, static-laced panic. “James?! Is that…how is he there?! He’s supposed to be over the Pacific! Our transit intel was flawless! Oh god, this is an absolute disaster!”

James forced his posture to relax, refusing to let Damien see a single crack in his composure.

The receptionist, entirely oblivious to the lethal tension thickening the air, smoothly pushed the ledger closer to the newcomer. "Welcome, Mr. Sutton."

James was still holding the pen, his mind working too fast to manually command his fingers to drop it. Damien’s smile widened, turning wicked and sharp. He took a deliberate step closer, bridging what little distance remained between them. Reaching out, Damien didn't just take the pen - he slid his palm slowly, deliberately over the back of James’s hand. His skin was burning hot against James's own, his fingers tracing a sensual path down James's knuckles before wrapping around the sleek casing of the pen and pulling it gently from his grip.

A jolt of pure, volatile electricity shot straight up James’s arm. His mind flashed vividly back to the Webb Gala, to the infuriating, intoxicating weight of Damien’s fingers lifting his chin. This touch was just as unnecessary, just as provocative, and entirely electric.

Damien smoothly signed his fake alias into the book.

"Thank you, Mr. Sutton," the clerk said, retrieving the ledger and stepping into the back office, leaving the two men isolated in the open-air pavilion.

Damien turned fully toward James, facing him head-on. The predatory edge to his smile was mesmerizing. "It’s so good to see you again," he purred, tilting his head as a playful glint caught the edge of his lenses. "I'm Danny."

An involuntary, private smile tugged at the corner of James's mouth. Danny. It was the petty, diminutive nickname James had used to bait him at the Gala, and now Damien was throwing it back in his face like a trophy, turning James's own weapon against him.

Clawing his way back onto solid ground, James offered a simple "John."

Damien let out a low, melodic laugh. "That's not very creative, is it?"

In his ear, Moneypenny was still spiraling. “...this completely derails the timeline, James! We haven’t secured the targets yet! If he makes a move now, we lose the intel completely…”

James mentally severed the connection, tuning her out entirely. He shoved her frantic warnings into the background, focusing every ounce of his hyper-alert senses on the predator standing in front of him.

Damien’s smile only grew, luxuriating in the absolute dominance he held over the moment, drinking in James's lingering surprise. He kept intense, unwavering eye contact, his gaze heavy even behind the dark tint of his glasses.

"Enjoy your stay at the resort, John," Damien murmured softly, his tone carrying a dark promise that had absolutely nothing to do with a vacation. "I'm certain we'll see much more of each other."

Desperate to seize back a shred of control, James narrowed his eyes, injecting pure ice into his delivery. "I'll try to contain my excitement."

Damien didn't even flinch. He merely offered one last, deeply satisfied smirk, turned on his heel, and strolled casually out into the lush resort grounds.

James stood paralyzed, his eyes locked onto the broad, shifting expanse of Damien’s back as he walked away. Only when the navy-blue shirt completely vanished around a bend in the stone path did Moneypenny’s voice finally drift back into sharp focus, her tone breathless as she struggled to catch up.

“...the logistics just don't add up, James. No commercial or private flight could have bypassed our radar networks like this. How the hell did he get to Vietnam so soon?”

James exhaled a long, measured breath through his teeth, forcing the tight knot of tension in his chest to loosen. "Moneypenny," he interrupted, his voice dropping into a low, gravelly register that was entirely too calm for the situation. "Breathe."

“Breathe?” she echoed, her voice spiking an octave. “James, he is on the ground. Right now. We haven’t even secured the targets yet!”

Moneypenny was right, of course. Her panic was entirely justified. Damien being here completely fucked up what little of a plan they had.

He should have been furious. Instead, a familiar, dangerous heat sparked beneath his skin, his pulse racing with a sudden, vicious spike of adrenaline. He couldn't help but feel utterly thrilled by the sudden change in pace. It was an arrogant, wildly unnecessary power play, and James found himself entirely intoxicated by the sheer audacity of it.

"The timeline was a suggestion," James said smoothly, turning away from the reception desk. "Panicking won't put him back on a plane, Moneypenny. Let’s find his possible targets and track them. And fast.”

“Yes, yes, you're right,” Moneypenny said, the rapid-fire tapping of her keyboard clicking sharply over the comms line. “Okay, got three profiles that fit Caliban's M.O. Ramon Hernandez, billionaire philanthropist. Geneticist Theresa Lorca, who you just met, and Ellis White, bit of a rockstar scientist.”

"Let's go find our three potentials," James murmured, slipping past the open-air pavilion.

He began navigating the sprawling paths of The Pearl, his sharp eyes sweeping over sun-drenched terraced gardens, hidden lounges, and pools. Outwardly, he looked like a wealthy tourist enjoying an afternoon stroll, but beneath his calm facade, his mind was hyper-alert, searching for any visual clues, staff schedules, or guest movements that would point him toward Hernandez, Lorca, or White.

In his ear, Moneypenny was still trying to piece the puzzle together, her voice dropping to a perplexed whisper. “I still don't get it, James. What is Damien planning? Why on earth would he approach you so openly? He should be playing the quiet game, staying in the shadows until he strikes. Why put himself right in your line of sight?”

James rounded a corner, reaching the next bar. "Because he knew we'd be here, Moneypenny. He's trying to sabotage our plans before we can even form them."

“But it's a massive risk for him,” she countered.

"Not in his mind," James replied, keeping his voice low as a pair of resort guests passed by. "Think about it. He knows exactly what happened back home. He knows that I, along with Greenway, have been branded terrorists by his father. He knows we have absolutely no official backup from MI6, no cavalry coming over the hill. We're entirely on our own, desperate for the intel and evidence we need to clear our names."

James paused near a balcony overlooking the infinity pools, his gaze scanning the crowds below.

"Damien knows that to get that evidence, I have no choice but to wait for his move," James continued, his jaw tightening slightly. "He has all the time in the world, and I'm pinned to the floor. He knows he holds all the cards at the moment, Moneypenny... and he wanted to look me in the eye just to make sure I knew it, too."

James caught the tail end of a conversation between two bartenders muttering about needing to cut Ellis White and his crew off from the booze. Following the lead down a secluded walkway, James was stopped at an intersection by two of Ellis’s friends.

One barked "You don't get in without an invitation. VIP only."

James stepped back, timing his move as two glamorous ladies stormed out, complaining the party was dry. As they brushed past, he deftly slipped his fingers into the tight back pocket of one lady's pants, lifting a golden VIP invitation without her noticing. He flashed the stolen card to the guards and strolled inside.

He navigated the terrace, spotting a group at a private bar overlooking the bay.

“That’s our target: Ellis White,” Moneypenny confirmed through the Q-glasses.

"Man likes a drink," James murmured. "Q-Trak still works if he swallows it, right?"

“Read my mind,” Moneypenny replied.

Ellis turned to him. "You lost, man? Private party."

James offered an easy smile. "St. John Smythe. Big fan. Sounds like you got yourself a drink problem."

Ellis let out a dry bark of a laugh. "I manage. Wait, what? Oh yeah, the bar. Apparently my friends and I have been 'bothering' some of the other guests, so management shut us down."

"Maybe I can help," James offered.

Ellis’s eyes lit up. "Maybe you can. I misplaced the keys to the mini-bar, and I'm getting thirsty. Would you mind taking a walk with my pal Jonty here to go fetch a new set? He'll show you where. Do that, and I'm all yours. What do you say?"

"Happy to," James replied.

"My man! Jonty, you're up."

Jonty rolled his eyes, shoving past while mumbling, "Can't believe I'm doing this. Babysitting the fanboy."

James followed him up a steep flight of stone stairs. Jonty didn't hide his irritation, glancing back. "Why am I stuck walking you, and those tiny shorts, to the bar to get a set of keys I already told them couldn't be got?"

James didn't miss a beat, a faint smirk playing on his lips. "Just point me and my shorts in the right direction. I'll do the rest."

James followed Jonty through the resort’s manicured paths until they reached the "Velten Pearl" bar. Jonty nodded toward the back and washed his hands of the chore, leaving James to navigate the rest alone. Stepping into the bustling venue, James immediately mapped his route through the service entrance right behind the main counter.

He moved with seamless precision, pulling the head bartender aside with a smooth, tailored distraction that sent the man rushing off to fetch him an exclusive bottle of wine. Slipping into the restricted back room, James didn't miss a beat, immediately using a fast-talking bluff on the workers inside. Backed by his unshakeable confidence, he swiftly got a hold of the spare keys.

Stepping back out into the open air, a genuine sense of elevation buzzed through his veins. He was entirely in his zone now, his silver tongue working like a charm and steering the mission right back onto a successful course. The unsettling shock of Damien’s sudden arrival was finally being overridden by the familiar thrill of an operation running like clockwork. James walked back with a lazy, supreme confidence, Jonty ahead of him babbling with absolute amazement. James kept his stride strong, enjoying the minor victory, while Jonty finally broke into a sprint for the last stretch around the corner, eagerly announcing their arrival to the bar.

"The key masters have returned!" Jonty shouted.

Ellis called back with a drunken cheer, "My guys! All right, let's get our drink on!"

But the triumph was instantly stripped away. The moment James rounded the corner and brought the private bar back into his sights, his stomach violently turned.

Standing right next to Ellis was none other than Damien.

“Shit,” James muttered under his breath, just as Moneypenny hissed the exact same word simultaneously in his ear.

James froze for a fraction of a second, his feet anchoring to the wooden floor. Jonty, eager to get to the liquor, gave the suddenly immobile James a small shove from behind toward the bar. Forcing his legs to move, James walked over.

The moment James stepped behind the counter, he locked eyes with Damien. Damien was leaning lazily against the outer side of the bar, right next to a completely oblivious Ellis. The look Damien gave him was entirely predatory - a devious, knowing smile that said he had anticipated this exact moment, and that he was entirely in control of James's audience.

James refused to break. It didn't matter that Damien was here, hovering like a ghost over his target. James needed to finish what he came here to do. He needed to get that bug into Ellis's system, and he would not allow Damien Webb to win every single fight.

Unlocking the heavy cabinets, James slid the counter open and looked up, projecting a smooth, flawless bartender's charm.

"All right folks, the bar is open," James announced to the rowdy group, before turning his gaze directly and pointedly to the rockstar scientist, completely bypassing the predator next to him. "What'll it be?"

Ellis grinned, slapping his hand onto the smooth wood of the bar. "Something that kicks like a mule. I'm sobering up here."

"I do make a mean Tequila Slammer," James answered, his fingers already smoothly selecting a heavy-bottomed rock glass.

"Read my mind," Ellis said, pointing a finger to his own head.

James offered a practiced, charismatic smile. "One slammer for Mr. Magnetic coming right up."

"Catchy, right? Crux coined that one," Ellis laughed, turning his head slightly to address Damien. "I'm actually trying to copyright it at the moment."

He kept on talking about the name, rambling on about how he wasn't too keen about it at first, but his lady friend over there really dug it. To emphasize his point, Ellis reached out and grabbed Damien’s shoulder, squeezing it with boisterous camaraderie. Damien smoothly matched his high energy, offering a low, charming chuckle while Ellis continued to brag about how he was just shooting fish in a barrel with all the ladies he was pulling at the resort.

All the while, James focused on preparing the drink. Despite Ellis's loud storytelling, the true focus of the terrace remained entirely locked between the two operatives. James could feel Damien’s heavy, intense eyes tracking his every single movement behind those dark lenses. Damien's gaze only shifted away for brief, fleeting seconds when he had to politely entertain Ellis's drunken attention, before snapping right back to James.

Right before James finished the drink, he seized his window. With a flawless, lightning-fast sleight of hand, he slipped his fingers into his shorts pocket, retrieved the small vial of Q-Trak, and poured a precise dose directly into the amber liquid.

It was perfectly subtle. Ellis didn't notice a single thing, still completely absorbed in his own voice.

But James didn't miss the sharp shift across the bar. Damien’s eyes narrowed into a thin, suspicious slit. He had clearly caught the microscopic variance in James's posture. He knew something had just happened. Yet, to James's surprise, Damien didn't say a word. He remained perfectly still, watching with a dangerous new curiosity as James smoothly slid the glass across the counter to Ellis.

Ellis caught the glass, raising it high to toast both of them. "To my new friends!"

With a practiced motion, the scientist downed the shot in one clean go.

James threw one last, deliberate look at Damien. Damien met his eyes head-on, a razor-sharp, lethal edge now glinting beneath his cool demeanor. The predatory amusement had hardened into a silent acknowledgment: the game had just escalated.

“Q-Trak is live,” Moneypenny’s voice suddenly chimed in his ear, cutting through the heavy silence. “You can get out of there now.”

James felt a quiet wave of relief. He needed to hurry if he wanted to remain even a fraction of a step ahead of whatever Damien was going to do next.

Fortunately, Ellis had already turned his back to James, focusing entirely on Damien. "Hey, Danny, let me tell you about this hot Portuguese chick I met at a convention..."

Damien laughed along perfectly, playing the part of the intrigued vacationer, but his gaze lingered on Bond for a fraction of a second longer. James used the sudden break in the group's attention to seamlessly slip out from behind the counter. He walked back up the stairs, his spine rigid as he actively ignored the heavy, burning gaze he could practically feel boring into the center of his back.

The moment he rounded the corner and broke line of sight, James exhaled a sharp breath. "Moneypenny, we need to find the next target. Fast. Before Damien throws another wrench in the works."

James strolled casually through the resort, keeping his posture relaxed as he searched for any clue that would point him toward the remaining two scientists. Stepping into the shaded interior of one of the many open-air bars, he caught sight of two resort security guards conferring near the edge of the pavilion.

Leaning smoothly against the counter, James pulled out his phone, scrolling idly to look like a tourist checking his messages while his hyper-focused hearing locked onto their conversation.

"There's a blind spot on the perimeter," the first guard muttered, shaking his head. "A cliffside path right behind the villa that can be easily scaled from below. It's a massive security risk."

The second guard shrugged, entirely unbothered. "Relax. That’s the villa Ramon Hernandez occupies, and the man brought his own small army with him. His private detail has it covered. It'll be fine for now."

A faint smile touched James’s lips. He pocketed his phone and smoothly exited the bar.

“I heard,” Moneypenny chimed in over the comms. “Hernandez’s villa is located on the exact same side of the resort as yours, James.”

Navigating the lush perimeter, James easily located the rocky, hidden path the guards had been complaining about. Moving with practiced agility, he scaled the cliffs behind the villa, pulling himself up onto the sun-warmed stone terrace. He slipped silently past an oblivious perimeter guard outside, before making his way toward the main entrance. When confronted by the private security detail at the door, James didn't even flinch, he delivered a sharp, authoritative bluff about an urgent luxury delivery, flashing enough casual confidence to make them step aside and grant him entry.

He moved quickly, tracking his target up to the second floor of the sprawling villa. The moment James stepped out onto the upper landing, he spotted Ramon Hernandez. James directly approached him, but a half-dozen heavily armed private guards swarmed around him, their weapons raised and pointed straight at his chest.

James calmly raised his hands to shoulder height, signaling he was no threat. He looked past the barrels of the guns, locking eyes with the billionaire philanthropist.

"I'm with MI6, Mr. Hernandez," James said, his voice steady and projecting absolute authority. "Your life is in immediate danger."

Hernandez looked at him with cold disdain, entirely unimpressed. "MI6? I don't think so." He gave a dismissive nod to his men. "Shoot him."

The distinct, lethal click of weapons being unholstered echoed through the room. James kept his hands up, his pulse remaining perfectly steady. "Moneypenny, a little help?"

“Agua Verde,” Moneypenny fired back instantly, her fingers flying across her keyboard. “Tell him we know about 'Agua Verde'!”

"Agua Verde," James repeated clearly, holding Hernandez's gaze.

The words hit their mark perfectly. Hernandez visibly stiffened, his eyes narrowing in sharp shock. With a curt, tense gesture, he signaled his guards to stand down. The weapons lowered, though the men remained tightly coiled.

"You have thirty seconds to explain yourself," Hernandez hissed, stepping forward.

"We have reason to believe you are the next target of the terrorist known as Caliban," James explained smoothly, lowering his hands.

Hernandez let out a dry, cynical breath, adjusting his cuffs. "I am always someone's next target. If that's all, a simple phone call would have sufficed."

"A phone call wouldn't have allowed me to give you this," James countered. He reached into his pocket, retrieved the second vial of Q-Trak, and held it out between his fingers. "Swallow it."

Hernandez stared at the metallic vial for a brief, tense moment. Calculating the weight of the words Agua Verde against the small object, the billionaire decided not to push his luck. He took the vial from James's hand and swallowed the smart bug with minimal resistance.

"Smart choice," James murmured.

Turning on his heel, James made his way back out of the villa, a genuine sense of accomplishment put back into his stride. Walking down the stone steps, he couldn't help but congratulate himself on a job well done. It had been an incredibly risky move to walk right into a private stronghold and announce himself as MI6, but under the ticking clock Damien had forced upon them, the direct gamble had done the trick.

“Excellent work, James,” Moneypenny’s voice hummed in his ear, sounding immensely relieved. “Signal is strong and tracking perfectly. That leaves only Theresa Lorca on our to-do list.”

James strolled through the manicured pathways of the resort, his eyes scanning the crowds for any kind of clue that would lead him to Theresa Lorca. He walked for about ten minutes, blending effortlessly into the scenery, before his patience finally paid off. Near a maintenance path, he spotted two resort workers locked in a quiet conversation.

The man leaned against the wall, asking the woman if she wanted to attend the evening’s beach event together. She sighed, shaking her head. "I can't. I'm still busy preparing the Emperor Villa for Miss Lorca, and I have way too much other work to do. She's still up at the Serenity Space at the moment, but the villa needs to be ready soon."

James rejoiced internally. He finally had his final target located. Plus, after their brief, teasing encounter at the registry desk, he had secretly hoped to spend a bit more time with the mysterious geneticist.

He made his way up several steep flights of stone stairs, ascending to the highest tier of the property. He finally located the Serenity Space—a spectacular, secluded platform encircled by a pristine infinity pool and framed by lush, tropical greenery. But as James reached the top of the stairs and looked to his right, his triumphant mood instantly withered.

Sitting by the edge of the pool, with a thick stack of research papers resting in her lap, was Lorca. And she was currently engrossed in a deep, animated conversation with... Damien.

James cursed bitterly under his breath.

Damien’s sunglasses were pushed up, resting carelessly on top of his head. He was smiling charmingly at Lorca, letting out a soft laugh whenever she said something funny. He was the absolute picture of a perfect, wealthy gentleman, and Lorca was obviously entirely into it. They both leaned toward each other, completely locked in their own world, Lorca even resting one of her hands familiarly on Damien's bare, muscular forearm.

James couldn't let him win this round. He had to break up their conversation, and fast.

Glancing around, James spotted a large, high-powered standing fan humming right next to their lounge chairs. Raising his wrist, James subtly activated his Q-Watch. With a quick calibration, he overloaded the fan's motor. The blades suddenly spun wildly out of control, creating a sudden, massive gust of wind that whipped across the terrace, sending the papers right off Lorca's lap and scattering them across the deck.

"Oh, no!" Lorca gasped, immediately jumping from her seat to chase after the flying sheets.

Damien, however, didn't look at the papers. His eyes instantly snapped across the platform, locking dead onto James as he casually approached the scene. A devious, knowing smile spread across Damien's face. He knew exactly who was responsible.

James paid him no mind. Crouching down near the water's edge, he began helping Lorca gather the stray documents. When he handed her the first few sheets, she looked up, her eyes widening slightly in recognition.

"You again?" she asked, a faint smile returning to her lips.

James grabbed another stray paper, deliberately reading the complex scientific title aloud. "Genomic analysis of Marinobacter and its role in alginate biosynthesis." He raised an eyebrow.

She let out a soft chuckle, taking it from him. "Yeah, I'm in genetics. It's boring science stuff, Mr...?"

"Oh, names now?" James teased smoothly.

She smiled warmly at him. Seizing the moment, James executed another brilliant piece of sleight of hand. Palming the final vial from his pocket, he cracked it open and poured a tiny, imperceptible amount of the liquid Q-Trak directly into his palm before extending his hand to her.

"John," James introduced himself.

Lorca accepted his hand, giving it a firm shake in greeting. The microscopic bug absorbed seamlessly through her skin, a perfect transfer.

"Theresa," she replied.

Before James could extend the conversation, Damien cut in, smoothly stepping between them and handing Lorca the remaining stack of papers he had casually gathered. They all stood up, Lorca beaming at Damien gratefully before gesturing between the two men.

"Oh, John, this is Danny," she said, entirely oblivious to the lethal current running between them.

Damien stepped forward, his eyes locking onto James with an agonizingly intense, predatory gaze. With his most charming, wicked smile directed straight at Bond, he purred, "Actually, Theresa, we've already met."

"Have you?" Theresa asked, her eyes lighting up with pleasant surprise. "Small world. Where did you two cross paths?"

James couldn't stand Damien’s smug, triumphant expression for a single second longer. He tightened his posture, a dangerous glint entering his eyes as he spun a calculated lie, aiming it straight at Damien’s ego.

"Oh, we met downstairs," James said, his voice dropping into a smooth, mockingly sympathetic cadence. "Danny's group had a rather major operational failure back home. Some very poor decisions were made on their end, and he’s out here trying to salvage what’s left of their reputation. I’m just acting as a bit of quality control - making sure the wrongdoing stops here before they cause any more public embarrassment."

But Damien didn't even flinch. Instead, a slow, toothy smile split his face, his dark eyes crinkling with a genuine, predatory heat.

"John is completely right," Damien murmured, his voice dropping into a velvety, dominant register that sent a jolt of pure adrenaline straight through James. "Our home office made some incredibly sloppy moves. But that’s exactly why they sent me out here. I’m a closer, Theresa. When I'm tasked with an acquisition, I don't leave until the job is entirely finished and I've taken absolutely everything I came for."

He paused, a wicked, knowing glint dancing in his eyes as he tilted his head at Bond. "But I have to say, I'm absolutely thrilled John is here to provide some... hands-on quality control. It’s always so much more rewarding when you have a dedicated partner trying to push you to your limits."

Theresa chuckled, smiling warmly at both of them, completely blind to the lethal subtext. "Well, it’s wonderful that you collaborate. Teamwork makes everything easier."

Before the tension could snap, a resort staff member stepped onto the platform, bowing politely. "Excuse me, Miss Lorca. The Emperor Villa is fully prepared for you now."

"Ah, that's my cue," Theresa said, neatly stacking her recovered papers against her hip. She threw a bright, warm smile at Damien. "See you later, Danny." Then, turning her gaze to James, she added, "You as well, John."

“Tracker is active, James,” Moneypenny’s voice chimed in his ear, breathless but relieved. “Signal is strong. That's three for three.”

The two men stood in absolute silence, watching Theresa as she vanished down the steep stone steps. For a few seconds, the quiet of the Serenity Space was absolute.

James turned his head toward Damien, a cocky, victorious smirk breaking across his features. He had done it. Against all odds, under Damien's very nose, he had successfully bugged every single target. He had won this round, and he wanted Damien to feel it.

"See you around, Danny," James said smoothly, injecting pure triumph into his delivery.

He turned on his heel, taking a step toward the stairs to make his exit.

He barely made it two paces.

In a blur of motion, Damien moved. A heavy, iron-grip hand clamped down on James’s forearm, spinning him around with terrifying force. Before James could counter, Damien lunged forward, crowding James forcefully against the glass railing at the top of the stairs, trapping him against the edge.

With lightning-fast precision, Damien’s free hand slid straight into the pocket of James’s shorts, his long fingers dipping inside and instantly pulling out the small glass vial of Q-Trak.

James’s instincts flared. He immediately made a sharp, aggressive grab to snatch it back, but Damien was already a move ahead. Damien shot his left arm out, palm flat against James’s chest, exerting a crushing amount of leverage that kept James firmly pinned at arm's length against the glass.

Damien didn't even look at James. He raised the tiny vial up toward the blazing tropical sun, turning it slowly between his fingers. He watched the clear, microscopic fluid shimmer violently in the harsh light, his expression entirely fascinated.

Without taking his eyes off the glowing glass, Damien’s voice dropped into a low, terrifyingly calm whisper. "You're using this to track them, right?"

James’s heart hammered against his ribs, his chest pressed tight under Damien's restraining hand. Brain scrambling for a recovery, he immediately tried to throw him off the scent, his voice tightening as he forced a dry chuckle. "It’s a specialized mineral supplement, Danny. The tropical climate plays havoc with my hydration."

Damien let out a low, mocking hum, the sound vibrating through his broad chest as he slowly brought the vial down from the sunlight. His gaze snapped to James, his dark eyes locked onto James's with an agonizingly intense focus.

"A mineral supplement," Damien echoed, a slow, toothy smile spreading across his face. "Please, James. A man like you hardly needs a supplement to stay hydrated. You look perfectly fine to me just the way you are."

He slightly eased the crushing pressure pinning James against the glass, letting his palm rest flat against James's shirt. However, because of the low-cut style of the shirt, the tips of Damien's fingers dug firmly directly into the bare skin of James's chest, a sharp, grounding reminder of exactly who was in control.

His voice came out crisp and matter-of-fact, "But let's not play games. You weren't exactly subtle when you spiked Ellis’s tequila, and your little touch with Theresa's papers was practically screaming for attention. Now, let's try this again, sweetheart. What exactly does it track?"

A small, disciplined voice in the back of James’s head screamed at him to shut his mouth, to protect MI6 intelligence and maintain whatever strategic advantage he had left.

But the toxic mix of intense physical proximity and the intoxicating triumph of having successfully completed the sweep right under the predator's nose drowned out his caution. He wanted to gloat. He wanted to shatter that dominant, all-knowing confidence.

James forced a cocky, razor-sharp smirk, staring directly into Damien's uncovered eyes without flinching.

"It tracks their real-time location and every single one of their vitals," James taunted, his voice a low, triumphant purr. He leaned slightly into the heavy hand on his chest, refusing to look intimidated by the sudden closeness.

“James!” Moneypenny’s voice suddenly barked inside his earpiece, her sharp tone cutting through the haze of adrenaline. “What are you doing?!”

James completely ignored her, the intoxicating urge to break Damien’s absolute confidence overriding everything else as he locked his gaze onto the hunter's eyes.

"Every heartbeat, every breath, every step they take across this island is being fed directly back to MI6," James continued smoothly, leaning in just a fraction more to drive the nail home. "Your little hunting game is over, Damien."

Damien stared at him for a long beat, his expression entirely unreadable. Then, he let out a short, dry chuckle, completely unimpressed by James's posturing.

"Is that so?" Damien murmured, his tone devoid of the frustration James had been hunting for.

Slowly, deliberately, he dropped his hand from James’s chest, allowing the intense, physical compression between them to ease. Damien turned his attention back to the tiny glass vial trapped between his long fingers, watching the light dance through the liquid once more before that familiar, razor-sharp smile slowly crept back onto his lips.

"Well then, James," Damien said, his voice lowering into a smooth, provocative cadence. "If you're so invested in keeping tabs on everything... wouldn't it be much more beneficial to track me instead?"

James tilted his head, his brow furrowing in a rare moment of genuine hesitation. His brain scrambled to calculate the sudden shift in the board. Track him? Why would an assassin willingly offer up his own grid coordinates?

Before James could formulate a response, Damien stepped back into his space, the heat radiating off his bare chest brushing against the cool air between them. He tilted his head, his eyes locking onto James's lips before pulling back up to meet his gaze with a look of heavy, undeniable temptation.

"After all," Damien purred, a wicked glint under his lashes, "I’d hate to think of you losing sight of me for even a second."

James swallowed the sudden spike of adrenaline, his recovery instantaneous. He forced a lazy, cocky smirk to his lips, refusing to let Damien's flirtation throw him off balance.

"Don't flatter yourself, Damien," James retorted smoothly, his voice dripping with pure, arrogant confidence. "I don't need a tracker to keep you in my sights. You're predictable, and frankly, you're not nearly as good at hiding from me as you think you are."

Damien let out a soft, delighted laugh, the sound rich with genuine amusement. He thrived on James’s stubborn defiance; every sharp retort only seemed to satisfy him more.

"Predictable?" Damien echoed, tilting his head as his eyes danced over James’s face. "You really do know how to hurt a guy. And here I was, just trying to be helpful. You’ve been working so hard running all over this resort, James. Frankly, you look like you could use a vacation."

Before James could bite back, Damien shifted the vial in his hand. With a quick, casual twist of his fingers, he popped the seal. He didn't hesitate. He tipped the glass and poured the shimmering, microscopic fluid directly onto his own chest, right above his pecks.

James’s breath caught slightly, his eyes tracking the clear liquid as it caught the glare of the tropical sun, forming a slow, glistening bead that began to slide down the center of Damien's bare torso.

Before James could even think to step back, Damien’s hand shot out.

His fingers clamped around James’s right wrist like iron cuffs. With a smooth, irresistible surge of strength, Damien dragged James’s hand forward and pressed his palm flat against the damp heat of his chest.

"Let's make sure it doesn't evaporate," Damien murmured, his voice laced with a heavy, commanding authority.

Maintaining a ruthless grip on James’s wrist, Damien slowly, deliberately guided James’s hand downward, forcing his palm to follow the exact path of the tracking fluid. James’s fingers split across the hard, heavy definition of Damien's pecks, the intense heat of the man's skin searing into his hand. Damien’s grip didn't waver as he steered James’s hand lower, dragging his palms and fingertips over the tightly coiled, rigid definition of his abs.

James’s gaze was completely trapped, his eyes glued to the sight of his own hand being forced across the assassin's body, feeling every muscle flex beneath his touch.

Damien kept James’s palm pinned firmly against his lower abs for a few long, suffocating seconds, letting the sheer dominance of the gesture sink in. Finally, James forced his eyes to break away from the contact, snapping his gaze upward to lock directly into Damien’s intense, unblinking stare.

Damien held James's gaze for a few more intense seconds, his dark eyes burning with absolute satisfaction as he let the weight of his presence sink in. Then, just as suddenly as he had grabbed him, Damien loosened his iron grip and let go of James's hand.

James didn't pull his hand back right away. He just stood there, holding eye contact, momentarily stunned by the sheer audacity of the man.

Through the static of his earpiece, a weak, thoroughly bewildered mumble drifted from London. "Damn..." Moneypenny breathed, completely lost for words.

Before James could even begin to process his handler's reaction, Damien stepped even closer, completely erasing the remaining distance between them. He leaned in, bringing his face agonizingly close to the right side of James's head. His breath was warm against James’s ear as he took a slow, deliberate inhale.

"You smell good," Damien murmured, his voice a low, dark vibration.

James’s jaw tightened as his mind flash-forwarded to the expensive, artisanal lotion he had applied back in his villa earlier that afternoon.

With a wicked, knowing smirk, Damien pulled back. He gave James a small, mockingly polite wave with two fingers, turned on his heel, and casually strolled down the stone steps, disappearing into the lush greenery of the resort.

For a long moment, the only sound in the Serenity Space was the distant lapping of the infinity pool.

“James…” Moneypenny’s voice finally returned to his ear, sounding breathless and utterly dazed. “I… I don't even know what to say to that. You certainly bring out an… unexpected side of him.”

James didn't answer. He simply leaned his weight back against the glass railing, letting out a long, ragged breath he hadn't realized he was holding. He closed his eyes for a brief second, trying to gather his scattered thoughts.

He absolutely hated it. He hated the emotional and physical whiplash Damien gave him, the way the man could pivot from cold killer to toxic provocateur in the span of a single heartbeat. James opened his eyes and looked down at his own palm, still tingling from the heat of Damien's skin. A dangerous, icy resolve settled over him.

The game had changed. James adjusted his shirt, staring down the empty staircase with a razor-sharp focus. He was going to give back just as good as he got from now on.

Was that actually… flirting?” Moneypenny resumed, her voice dropping into a rapid, analytical murmur as she talked more to herself than him. “Or is it a psychological play to keep you reactive? Blurring the lines between hostility and attraction is an incredibly toxic tactic… but that’s not his usual M.O….”

“James, listen to me,” Moneypenny said after a heavy pause, her voice sharp with sudden urgency. “You need to keep your head in the game. His psych eval explicitly describes him as highly intelligent, but he’s clearly evolved his tactics.”

James closed his eyes for one final, grounding beat, systematically locking away the lingering adrenaline and the phantom heat on his palm. When he opened them, the cold, unflappable MI6 agent was fully back in control.

"Don't worry, Moneypenny," James murmured, his voice smooth and steady. "I'm vigilant. Now... what's our play?"

There was a brief pause, the sound of keys tapping over the secure line. “Well, the good news is the tracker you applied to him is working flawlessly. Unfortunately, we can't do anything but wait for his next move.”

A lazy, dangerous smile slowly spread across James's face as his natural composure fully returned. "Excellent. So, since you have his real-time location, I don't exactly need to follow him around the resort and track his every single move, do I?"

“Technically, no,” Moneypenny replied, her voice cautious and tentative. “Why do you ask, James?”

"Because Damien was right about one thing," James chuckled softly, turning away from the railing and finally stepping down the steep stone stairs. "A small vacation does sound absolutely wonderful."

Notes:

I haven't shipped anyone this hard in ages! James and Damien's dynamic is incredible—I love how Damien matches James' energy perfectly, but with an extra edge of aggression. I've honestly replayed their scenes together more times than I can count.

After all of Moneypenny’s teasing in that level, I was so disappointed we didn't get a casual arrival scene for Damien. Consider this my official fix-it fic! It’s going to be a multi-chapter ride with a lot of smut. Hope you enjoy the first taste! 😊
