Just give it a chance

Summary:

Wumuti never considered letting Haru carry a baby. But after some not-so-nice news, Haru brings it up for the first time.

Or

Bunny hybrid Wumuti had always dreamed of a big family. And she got her wish alongside her lover, fox hybrid Haru. But when her latest pregnancy leaves it impossible for her to carry again, Haru tries to convince her to let them carry their child instead.

Notes:

Anatomy note: Both Haru and Wumuti are Mutisex in this universe which means they have both genitals and reproductive systems. Not to be confused with the IRL condition of intersex.

These reproductive organs are, however, independent from each other. So getting hard doesn't necessarily mean getting wet and vice versa. I’m not sure if I managed to explain it but hopefully you’ll get what I mean in the actual story.

Pronouns: She/her Wumuti, they/them Haru

Chapter 1: Your love

Chapter Text

- No, we never put that as a possibility, and for a good reason. - Wumuti turned away from Haru, her mind begging for a break from this topic.

- Please, just think about it! I know you want more children. - Haru pleaded to her.

- Enough is enough Haru. - she tried to sound strong and determined, but her eyes started to build tears.

- I don’t even know why we never considered it before! I’m perfectly healthy! - they begged for her reconsideration.

- Your body isn’t like mine, and if even mine isn’t working right now, how can I know you will be safe? - tears were now fully coming out as she felt the control of her own body slip away from her and walked away from Haru.

- Muti-ya… - Haru grabbed her hand, holding her before bringing her face closer. - If you genuinely don’t want it, I’m not gonna pressure you. - they kissed her cheek. - But I mean it when I say I would love to carry a pup for us. - they kissed her lips. - Do you want to left alone for a bit? - they asked, she nodded. - Okay, I'll go check on the girls. If you need anything, let me known. - they said before getting up, looking to find out what their daughters were up to.

Wumuti already knew, long before her doctor told her, that after her last pregnancy it wouldn't be safe for her body to ever go through that again. She knew it, but it still hurt when she got the news. Haru held her through the tears as she felt her dream fall apart.

She had always dreamed of having a big family. Her parents weren’t allowed to have one and as bunny hybrids that felt like going against their nature. When she moved abroad she promised herself that she would find a place and a person with whom she could get what she wanted. To do what others couldn't when they wanted to.

When she met Haru, her Haru, they were just a shy little fox on their first year of uni studying abroad. She wasn’t even a student anymore, but she couldn’t resist when the pretty fox first asked her for directions in broken Korean.

They took an immediate liking to her. Glued to her side the very moment they met. She tried her hardest to help them study for classes and practice their Korean amidst her own work at that very University.

She blushed every time they introduced her as their hero or claimed they wouldn’t know what to do without her to their friends and classmates. Looking back, maybe she should’ve realized sooner that her feelings for Haru weren't as platonic as she thought them to be.

That was the first time she had someone younger to look after. And it finally felt like she had found her place in the world. A person to call home. They went after her whenever they had a chance between classes and study sessions. They learned to be comfortable amongst each others silences.

Haru moved in with her as soon as they graduated, so happy to be done with the international students dorm,  and didn’t even bother to hide their desire to sleep on the same bed as her. She didn’t bother to deny them either. She wasn't going do buy another bed when her and Haru could perfectly fit on her bed.

They saw her as a maternal figure in her mind, and in her own eyes, that was also the type of love she had for them. They had the same age when they moved abroad. She knew how they felt and they had told her that they were very close to their actual mother. So they were essentially her training pup, right?

Coming home to her baby fox became the biggest joy ever and she felt safe falling asleep everyday in their arms. Their routine had established itself quickly. Waking up in each others arms, waking up and having breakfast together, work and once they both came back they could relax together, eat dinner and fall asleep in each others arms.

Totally platonic of them, she was sure.

She realized it wasn't actually platonic at all from Haru's part four months after they moved in.

She wasn’t the most knowledgeable in the Japanese language, even if living with Haru meant they occasionally taught her little things. It wasn't rare that she would understand bits and pieces of conversations Haru had on the phone, both with their family and their friends.

That day she heard Haru calling a friend from University.

Haru didn't seem to notice she was nearby because their phone was on speaker mode and their voices were loud. She wasn't trying to pay attention but suddenly a word caught her attention.

Haru's friend was teasing them about a crush. And forgive her for being curious, but she kept listening in hopes of finding out who had stolen her baby fox’s heart.

“Are you gonna tell her?” the friend asked with a teasing tone.

“I don’t want to make things awkward. We’re so close right now and I really don't want to lose that.” Haru replied, their tone sounded uncertain.

“You’re so lucky, though. I wish I could fall asleep in my crush's arms every night.” the friend kept teasing, finishing off with a laugh.

Wumuti’s heart almost burst out of her chest. There was no way she had heard that right. She wasn’t even that good with Japanese, surely that’s a completely different word that just sounded similar.

“Hey, it’s not like that! I’ve never been turned on or anything.” Haru protested.

“Are you sure, not even a little wet? If you got hard she would’ve noticed immediately.” the friend insisted.

“No, I haven’t.” Haru's reply sounded annoyed.

Wumuti still couldn't believe what she was hearing.

“You sure?” the friend doubled down.

“Yes.” Haru reassured.

“100%?” three times.

“Okay, maybe it happened like… one time because she held me close and practically moaned in my ear. But only that time! Those moments are sacred to me, okay?” Haru confessed once again, this time Wumuti knew there was no way she was misinterpreting that many words.

“I’m sure they are.” the friend replied.

Before Haru could protest the teasing once again, Wumuti opened the door to the room Haru was in. Her heart was ready to jump off her chest and she didn't knew she could listen to anymore confessions.

She wasn’t sure which one of them looked more horrified when they made eye contact.

“I… I need to go. I’ll call you back.” Haru turned off their call without breaking eye contact. Complete silence followed.

“I…” Haru tried to start speaking, but ended up choking on their own tears.

“Oh no, baby. Don’t cry.” Before she could realize, she was holding Haru to her chest, her instincts immediately alert to her baby’s sadness. “It’s okay, sweetheart. It's all gonna be okay.”

“You… You don’t think I’m a creep?” they asked through their tears.

“What? Of course not! You’re my baby, I would never think you’re disgusting.” she looked at them confused. In what universe would she ever found them disgusting?

“But… weren’t you hearing… our conversation?”

“I was. But that doesn’t change how I feel.” She caressed their head. “Nothing you do could ever make me disgusted with you. Nothing.”

They didn’t directly speak on it for the rest of the week. For the first time ever since they knew each other, their silence was awkward and filled with things unsaid.

But every time Haru tried, Wumuti stopped them, either by putting their face on her chest, or by shushing them with her fingers.

She knew it wasn't a long-time solution, but she didn't want their relationship to change. She hadn’t even properly processed what she had heard. She knew that the way she saw Haru wasn’t altered by the information that Haru liked her romantically. She would never push them away. Unless Haru wanted her to, but that thought alone pained her like nothing else. She wasn't ready to consider her own feelings about the entire thing, and every time she started to trying to unroll her ball of thoughts, the fear of it all falling apart kept her away once again.

She didn't want Haru to stop holding her when they slept. And even though on the first night they tried to separate themselves, she pinned them down and left them motionless for the rest of the night. Haru didn't complain, neither did they try to move away any other night afterwards. Even though something heavier now surrounded their sleep, their habits didn’t change. She refused to let it happen.

For Wumuti, night time was always her favorite part of the day. Where she felt like she could breathe and reflect. The light and the sounds of the day blinded her. The night was gentle on her eyes and ears. Haru had become the physical embodiment of her nights, even more after they moved in.

Being in Haru's arms brought her peace like nothing else. She would always sleep well in their arms. She hoped Haru felt the same in her arms. That Wumuti was their night too.

She remembered what she had heard them say to their friend that time. Haru had called their nights sacred. They were in love with her. Yes, she was their night. She felt herself smiling like a fool every time she remembered that admission. Maybe she already knew how she felt about them. Oh, if only her brain was as brave as her heart, she couldn't avoided this tension that followed them during those days.

Haru’s worst nightmare came true one week after Wumuti found out about their feelings.

Wumuti woke up to movement on their bed, something that was very unusual because Haru barely moved in their sleep. Before she could fully wake up her first instinct was panic. Something was happening to her Haru and the idea that they might be in pain or having a nightmare made her heart ache.

She turned on the bedside lights, scared what facial expression of panic she might see on her Haru's face.

Instead, she found her baby fox panting with their brows furrowed. She was confused for two more seconds before she noticed the bulge in their pajama pants.

“Uh… mommy” She would never forget that noise. Wumuti had barely a chance to react to it before it went straight to her second sex. She knew Haru was calling her. She had no doubt about that.

“Baby?” Her voice sounded weak, she wasn’t sure if waking up Haru was a good idea, but nothing else crossed her mind. She shook their shoulders.

“Mommy” it wasn't a response, Haru was still very much asleep. “Mommy… Muti” it started to sound like a mantra coming out of their month. She just stood there, her hand on their shoulders as their sounds got more and more desperate. She felt them shiver with a high whimper and then suddenly relax. She was sure she would find a dark stain in their pajama pants if she looked down.

Her baby fox had an erotic dream about her and had just cum on their bed. Now there was no avoiding That Conversation. She pondered what to do next until she once again heard Haru.

“Mommy?” their eyes were wide open and their voice sounded so fragile. She just wanted to embrace them forever and let them forget about the world. Unfortunately, as soon as Haru looked at their own pants and realized what had happened, they stood up and ran to the bathroom.

“Baby? Where are you going?” Wumuti ran after them immediately after.

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry!” they apologized between cries inside the bathroom.

“You did nothing wrong, sweetie.”  She tried to open the door. “Can you let me in?” she asked when she realized the door was locked.

“No! Please don’t come in!” They begged, humiliation visible in their tone.

“Okay, sweetheart.” She let herself collide with her back on the bathroom door. “I mean what I said okay? I’m not disgusted by you, you have nothing to apologize for.” she heard a cry from inside the bathroom. “Mommy loves you…” she pondered on what to say next, even though the truth was already obvious in both her heart and her mind. “More than platonically.” She felt the door on her back unlock.

“Wha-what?” Haru looked at her in shock, after slightly opening the door.

“Love.” Wumuti turned around, stood up and grabbed Haru’s face, cleaning the tear tracks visible there. “I love you so much, Kato Haru.” she feels her own eyes filling up with tears. “You are one of the most special things in my life. Mommy doesn’t know why it took her so long to realize…” She kissed their cheek. “Seeing you calling up to me made mommy so wet.” she confessed, bridging Haru away from the door. “Mommy wants to be the only one to ever hear them. Will you let me? Will you let mommy be your one and only? I’ll take care of you forever. I love you."

Haru grabbed her waist, bringing them even closer together. “Haru also wants to be mommy’s one and only. Can I?” they held back their tears, staring at her chest over her face.

“Of course, baby. You’re my whole life.” she grabbed their face before kissing them almost on the lips. “We’ll be each other's one and only, okay?”

“B-but… You’ve had other people before, right?” they asked, insecurity visible in their eyes.

“Yes, I did. But I didn’t feel for them half of what I feel for you. Do you believe me, baby?” she reassured them. She was certain she would never feel anything close to what she felt for Haru. She wasn't entirely correct, but Haru was indeed her one and only.

“Y-yes.” Haru nodded. “I believe mommy.”

“You are… the most special person in my life. My Haru.” Wumuti confessed, before finally pressing her lips to theirs.

The seconds that followed were the most quiet  moments her mind had had in that whole week. No thoughts, no anxiety, just her baby fox’s lips on hers. As they should be.

Haru was a shy kisser, something Wumuti had already predicted, but also found incredibly endearing. Their lips moved slowly, unsure. Even though she wanted more, she let them drive the kiss for a bit. Let them explore her mouth however they wanted to, that might have been their first ever kiss.

- Am I… am I doing this right? - Haru asked once they started to get out of breath.

- You could never do anything wrong, my dear. - she still stands by that sentiment to this very day. - Let's go back to bed, baby. Tomorrow we'll have all the time in the world to be together.

And all the time in the world they had.
