Simmering Heat

Summary:

Naruto can't say he's a fan of too hot summer days but he supposes that they are not always that awful.

Notes:

Author's note: This week was goddamn awful and the heat isn't helping at all. Not a fan of the summer, please let autumn arrive already. Have this odd oneshot; my brain has trouble braining clearly.

Disclaimer: I don't own Naruto. Kishimoto owns it.

I hope you'll like this odd drabble!

Work Text:

Simmering Heat

The crickets were in high spirits tonight, just like the birds. The chirping chorus of the crickets was never ending, with the birds' tweeting and singing occasionally drowning out the crickets' noises. Their energetic sounds stood in sharp contrast to the muggy air. The heat had yet to lessen; the fan in the room idly drifted back and forth, pushing around hot air, occasionally creating something that could be called a cool draft if one was incredibly optimistic.

The window had been opened as far as it could go once the shadows had reached this part of the house, but it didn't do much save for giving him a chance to listen to the crickets' chorus unhindered. The windows and doors had been kept shut for the entire day, but the warmth had still managed to sneak in regardless, clinging to every room.

The blond man laid in a starfish position on the bed, trying to catch even the faintest whiff of wind to cool off. The cloying heat had had him shedding his clothes the second he had arrived home, until only his boxers were the only thing left. He was contemplating removing those as well, but that would require moving and moving was absolutely the last thing he wanted to do right now. His entire body felt bogged down by the heat and he sighed, closing his eyes.

He loved summer, but on days like this, when just going outside made him break out in a sweat, when taking several showers did fuck all to cool him down, when it felt like he was going to explode from the sheer warmth, he wished there existed a button that he could press on to skip these awful days. They probably should consider buying more fans – or perhaps just stronger fans in general, ones that didn't feel like they were about to give the ghost any second now.

Or maybe they should just spend the summers in the Land of Snow, yeah, that sounded quite nice at this point. If they did that, he wouldn't feel like he was going to sweat out of his skin or that the sun was going to burn an entire layer of his body simply by going outside. He should suggest that, he mused idly, staring up at the ceiling. They could still do missions when they stayed there, he was sure.

But the suggesting would have to wait until he wasn't so tired. He hadn't even been on a mission to begin with; he had only gone to the market to buy some vegetables and had done some minor cleaning in the house. Yet doing that in the heat had exhausted even his energy levels to the point that even just contemplating moving made him break out in a sweat.

Eugh, he was going to be so happy once this heatwave was over …

Downstairs the front door opened and closed again. Footsteps meandered through the hallway and into the kitchen and back out. They paused near the living room before they steadily made their way upstairs. In the distance, he thought he could pick up the sound of thunder; it was nothing more than a vague rumbling now, almost entirely swallowed up by the crickets' chirping, but it seemed to herald the beginning of an approaching storm. With a bit of luck, they would finally get some serious rain that would force the temperatures to lower to a more decent degree.

Naruto opened his eyes when footsteps halted in the doorway of the bedroom. He turned his head sideways and blinked at the dark haired man, who had some blood smeared across his shirt.

"Yours?" Naruto questioned drowsily. The other man didn't look injured, though, so he doubted it was his.

Sasuke shook his head, passing by the bed to reach the attached bathroom. "No, just an idiot who didn't get the hint to fuck off," he muttered and discarded his katana and bag on the small desk next to the window before disappearing into the bathroom.

Soon the water got turned out; the steady rushing sound just loud enough to cover up the crickets and the birds. The noise was nice to listen to actually and Naruto could feel his eyes becoming heavier …

The bed dipping had Naruto blinking his eyes open. The sun was slowly setting; the ceiling dyed pink and orange by its rays. The colour danced and wavered every time the leaves of the tree next to their bedroom rustled in the weak breeze.

Looking away from the ceiling, Naruto watched silently how Sasuke crawled between his spread legs; the towel around his hips the only cloth covering him up. The towel didn't do much to hide where Sasuke was thinking of taking this evening, though, especially not when he lowered himself and caught Naruto's mouth in a deep kiss. Naruto returned the kiss, albeit somewhat sleepily; the drowsiness that had taken over him hard to shake even when his body was doing his best to catch up to the newly developing situation.

"You look exhausted," Sasuke murmured against his mouth, pecking it once, twice, thrice.

"Feel like it," Naruto grumbled, but couldn't help but hum when Sasuke swivelled his hips against his. "Don't expect me to do much tonight; heat's fucking me over."

"Well, we can't have that," Sasuke smiled, trailing his lips down from Naruto's left cheek to his jaw, mouthing gently at it. "Feeling up to it?"

"Always," Naruto said frankly, making the other man's shoulders shake as he chuckled silently. "Like I said, though, don't expect me to move much."

"I'll keep that in mind," Sasuke smiled and kissed him again; his fingers toying with the waistband of Naruto's boxers.

There was something to be said about this slow pace, Naruto vaguely thought, as he lifted up his hips to make it easier for Sasuke to remove his boxers.

There was no rush, no desperate grappling as they tried to get each other naked as fast as possible. Their movements were slow, almost languid, but not less enjoyable. Naruto had expected to feel annoyed at being touched, at having Sasuke on top of him during this cloying heat, but as another type of heat started to simmer in the pit of his belly, he considered that maybe Sasuke was simply an exception to the rule like he tended to be most of the time. As heavy as his limbs felt, he still wrapped them around Sasuke, enjoying the harsh intake of breath he managed to elicit when he dug his fingers into his shoulders.

As Sasuke sank deep in him, kissing his neck gently, the rolling of the thunder came closer and the first thick drops of rain splattered apart on the windowsill, promising relief in more than one way.

Perhaps, Naruto mused, bending his head to the left, hot summer nights weren't so awful after all.

Even if it looked like he wasn't going to cool down for quite some time tonight.

The End

Notes:

AN: Heat sucks, that's all. Difficult to catch up to with updates when you feel like you're going to melt out of your skin ... (Does anyone notice that I don't deal well with hot summers?). I hope this drabble wasn't too odd! Hopefully next week will be a bit more merciful and I can actually get more writing done =_=

Please leave your thoughts behind in a review; should you spot any mistakes, please point them out to me.

I hope to see you all back in my future stories! Please stay safe and take care of yourselves!
