Work Text:
Jennifer crawled through the vents of the venue, carefully considering where her position would be on the blueprints she memorized earlier. Her mission was simple, easy, and lowkey: assassinate the visiting diplomat at an embassy in the capital. She turned a corner and could see light pouring out of the grate a few feet ahead of her. As she was approaching the source, however, she saw another face approaching the grate from the other side: Matilda. The notice was clearly mutual, as Matilda was wide-eyed upon seeing her counterpart.
“What the hell are you doing here, Jenny-Jennifer?,” hissed Matilda, making sure that she couldn’t be heard over the commotion in the room below.
“Eliminating the visiting diplomat, and you?,” Jennifer whispered back.
“Eliminating the hosting diplomat, I…I’m sorry Jennifer, this really isn’t a good time, and I wasn’t expecting to see you here, and-“
“No, I’m sorry,” responded Jennifer.
“What?”
“I’m sorry I was always so distant. I’m sorry I never gave you the affection that you wanted. That you deserved.”
“Jennifer Drips apologizing? Yeah, right. What do you want?”
“You, Matty. I had an…out-of-body experience, made me see things in a whole new light.”
Matilda blushed. “Fine, but once we’re out of here, I want a better explanation.”
“And you’ll get one. As for our missions-“
“Not technically mutually exclusive,” said Matilda with a wink, pulling out a grenade. Jennifer smiled as she got ready to kick out the grate.
“I’ll see you soon, Jenny,” Matilda declared as Jennifer knocked the grate off and she dropped her grenade into the room below. The two each went back the way they came, knowing they were soon to reconvene.
