This late spring I find myself once again in Monaco, although not for the usual occasion. This time, nearly a week before the grandstands of Monte-Carlo saw what is surely to be the beginning of Max Verstappen’s most dominant year in Formula 1, I was invited to (you won’t believe it!) a music show at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo!
Some would definitely say that Monaco was never famous as a music festival destination or even a grand concert hall holder, and so did I. Least say, I was mistaken. Given that I had no expectations whatsoever, I searched for the artist of the day… that was the first bell that I nearly missed.
We often hear about celebrities that choose life in Monaco as a permanent citizen: billionaires, investors, finance bros (it would be fair to mention that this part of demographics nowadays prefers much more popular Dubai), sportspeople (your favorite F1 driver is, probably, having a drink on his yacht somewhere in the azure waves of Ligurian sea). Thus said, we don’t hear much about native monegasques, the ones that were born and raised in the country. It was a huge surprise and unheard luck for me to find about Charles Leclerc.

When the last sound of keys disappeared into the night, Charles put his hands away from the grand piano. His eyes were still closed: he had to give himself a minute to compose his mind and voice, and it would be fantastic if his fingers would stop trembling a little. His last song of the tour was over, but the applause kept going on and on. Someone like Arthur would probably call him vain (and would be right), but seeing as he was somewhere in the balconies and not here, Charles allowed himself to be a little vain for a bit longer. The loud noises of attendees didn’t seem to be quieting in the near time, so he had to finish it off himself.
He opened his eyes and immediately got blinded by the singular light left, but laughed it off. Nothing was going to ruin his mood. Neither the blinding lights, nor the message he got from Jaoven the very last five minutes before going on stage.
"My dear Monaco," he said, "this night I find myself the most grateful I ever was and it was all due to you! Your immerse support of me from the day one was everything I have ever needed. Today is the anniversary of my first show ever: this day five years ago I walked upon the stage of a small cafe and sang my first song. As I look at you now, I can’t imagine the emotions Charles of the past would feel if he knew he was allowed to welcome you on stage of Opéra de Monte-Carlo. It’s all thanks to you that my dream came true. Thank you for making me the happiest person alive. I love you, Monaco! Have a wonderful night and never stop! Goodbye!"
