Prepared

Summary:

Jason is used to being resposible for food.

Notes:

I just like the thought of Damian being vegan instead of vegetarian. He hates animals being mistreated and milk and egg farms also mistreat their animals.

Work Text:

Before Jason moved into the manor, he was always responsible for the food he’d have on the table. When he’s sat at the dining table of the manor for the first time, he doesn’t feel comfortable eating the food he had no part in making.

He convinces Alfred to let him into the kitchen with claims of his own comfort.

Slowly Alfred starts letting Jason help in the kitchen. Small things at first, peeling vegetables or stirring a pot, following along while Alfred does the shopping.

When he expresses interest in baking, Alfred seems pleased to teach him the ropes.

When Jason gets to know Damian and about his dietary preferences, about him being vegetarian, Jason learns and makes a ton of vegetarian recipes.

He thinks that once Damian learns more about other animal produce, how henhouses and cowsheds treat the animals that make their eggs and milk, he’ll also want to be vegan, so Jason learns that, too.

He doesn’t only learn cooking, but baking, too.

When Damian tells the family he’d like to become vegan, Jason shares the veganized versions he’s perfected of Alfred’s own recipes. The smile that spreads onto Alfred’s face feels like the greatest approval.

Notes:

I see, in my minds eye, Jason testing different variations of each recipe and bringing them to his alley kids.

Jason: Here are the fifteenth batch of chocolate chip cookies for you this week
Alley kids: that's so many cookies

I love vegan baking. Making treats vegan doesn't prevent anyone from eating them, but baking them with eggs would mean I couldn't share with my parents. And treats are meant to be shared.
