Chapter Text
lin ling was having a pretty shit week if he said so himself, first his landlord came pounding on his door demanding to talk to his parents about the rent being late. problem is they left on one of their little vacations a month ago, and him being a 13 year old with little to no money to his name hadn't had the money to pay the rent, so when his landlord came knocking he didn't know what to tell him.
what was he supposed to tell the guy ''oh yeah! well they're not here right now, in fact their almost never here but you can put in a message, and i can deliver it to them when they come back in a few month's time.'' yeah right like that would go over well, cps would get called on his ass then he would be put in an orphanage, and no offence to orphanages but he would rather die than to be put in one.
so, he lied told the landlord that they were away for a few days while his grandparents looked after him. not the best lie but it went over good enough, after that and a few more choice words the landlord was off promising to be back in a week's time. after that terrible encounter he had sent himself into overdrive trying to get enough money in time, so the asshole didn't come back.
problem is he's to young for a proper job that would actually pay enough for his rent, but still he tried. every day that week and every hour was spent trying to find a job or some way for him to make money that didn't include jail time. fast food was out of the question considering it wouldn't pay enough in time, he was way to young for an office job or any other job like it.
construction was out of the question he couldn't even lift a bed, and besides who would want a child when they have hero's to do that sort of work, they have hero's for everything nowadays. to be a hero... that's something he had always wanted to be, but that's any kids dream. to be a hero is the (in his opinion) greatest honor ever, ever since he could remember he has wanted to be a hero. he used to sit in class thinking of what his hero name could be.
of course, that didn't go over well with literally anyone. he was laughed at and teased even by his own family, he still remembers their words. they'd say things like "yeah right, like you could ever save someone, your far to weak" or " for fucks sake get that stupid idea out of your head this instant, you could never be a hero you're to useless"
he shook his head trying to get those memory's far away from his mind, there's no use thinking of that. it was a long time ago, he took a deep breath and looked up at the treeman building, while job hunting, he came across a need workers ad for marketers at treeman. at first, he was suspicious because the ad had listed that anyone could try for the job, so he did some research and turns out treeman loved to hire children or teens for the job of a grown man/women. granted if they have what it takes.
lin ling took another deep breath and walked up the stairs leading into the building. this was his last resort if he didn't get this job he was done for. either his parents would kill him, or he would get put in an orphanage, both options weren't ones he liked. he felt the cold air of crushed hopes and dreams as soon as he entered the building, he immediately noticed the wired looks he was getting.
he looked around for a second before shouldering his bag and making his way over to the reception desk, where a scary looking woman was sat working on some paperwork. he took one last deep breath and cleared his throat, the women took a minute to look up and when she did lin ling almost wished she hadn't. he could feel her judgmental look without having to look up.
"Can i help you?" he finally looked up ''yes...I'm here for the job interview" he hurried to take out the forms he had printed and filled out, before handing them to the lady. she took them with a raised brow, he held his breath as she looked them over "do you have a power point video?'' he blinked before quickly reaching into his bag and taking out the little disc with the power point presentation "yes! its right here" she didn't look up as she continued looking over the form.
"...very well follow me" in a blink she was up and moving. lin ling hurried after her, he took in his surroundings as they stepped into an elevator he couldn't help but gape in shock at the mere size of the building, he didn't get to have a proper look from the outside. the elevator let out a little ding as the doors opened to a long hallway,
the women didn't say anything as she stepped out with lin ling hot on her heels. he kept his eyes on the floor as he followed her before she stopped suddenly "alright take a seat mr Cheng Yaojin will call you in, in just a second''.
he couldn't get a word out before she was Turning around and making her way back to the elevator, he let out a sigh as he sat down and waited to be called in.
