Chapter Text
Tamsy Caines doesn’t remember the first 15 years of his life. He felt neutral towards it as just something he’d have to live with.
There were times when members would share pictures of themselves as kids or their children, and he couldn’t help but feel a pang of jealousy.
It’s not like he had any photos of his own childhood. He came to the Cleaners as an amnesiac whose only possession was Tokushin.
To Tamsy, HQ was his family.
Corvus welcomed him with open arms despite his confusion. As the leader of the Cleaners, he was especially kind to his employees.
On the Ground, Tamsy didn’t seem to have such huge gaps in memory until a certain Sphererite came into The Cleaners’ care. ‘Rudo Surebrec’.
Even the mention of his name put him in a daze.
Did he tell him his last name? He can’t remember, but he’s sure he must’ve heard it in one of their brief conversations.
The name ‘Cerberus’ spelled backwards gave him an odd sense of familiarity…
The three-headed dog that guarded Hades’ entrance…
“Tamsy!?”
Delmon Gates, Tamsy’s work partner, snapped him out of whatever trance he was in.
“Are you okay? You’ve been out of it for a while now.”
He looked down at the freshly poured tea that Delmon had made using mint from his garden, barely touched.
“I’m fine, Delmon.” Tamsy sighed.
He scoffs as he takes a sip of his tea.
“You know, you could ask for a day off. After all those scars-”
“Don’t.”
He knew that Corvus was more lenient to the Cleaners and Supporters who had honed many battle scars. He’d probably be mistaken for Mildretta’s sibling if she were in the same unit as him. But he’s also a Giver, and such talent should be put to good use.
For some reason, he’s felt fresh scars lately. Another memory gap thanks to this Rudo situation. He easily blamed it on the Trash Beasts, which brings this back to Delmon, thinking this is a job situation.
“I’ll be fine.”
Tamsy repeated, stroking the big man’s hefty hands.
If only he knew what the future held.
