Chapter 1: Emotional Roller Coaster

Chapter Text

It was the day after a game and Ilya insisted Shane and him needed to go to Disney.

The hot Florida sun was beating down on Shane as he used his hand to block out the sun. Shane watched his husband, excited as a puppy look at the map deciding where to head to first.

“How about Tron first?” Ilya said in his heavy Russian accent. “Then we go see show, and go to lunch.”

Shane nodded letting Ilya take the lead in this. “Sounds good ‘Captain’.”He quipped giving Ilya a playful nudge, Ilya grinned his teeth were straight. (most of them being implants because of hockey accidents)

“Captain but just this morning you were calling me-“ Ilya teased back with a smug smirk.

Shane stepped on his foot before snatching the map from him. “Shut it Rozanov.” He gritted out as he started to walk towards the direction of the ride.

When Shane and Ilya reached the ride they didn’t have to wait long due to them having a fast pass.

As much as he didn’t want to admit it Ilya was scared, him Ilya freaking Rozanov scared of some ride? Maybe binge watching roller coaster horror stories at 3am after Shane told him to go to bed wasn’t a good idea…

Shane, noticing that distinct set in Ilya’s jaw, the same one he got when he wasn’t feeling well but didn’t want to seem weak in front of Shane. Shane grabbed onto Ilya’s hand squeezing twice, it was their special signal for ‘You okay?’

“I’m not scared,” Ilya folded his arms “Russians no get scared.”

“Uh-huh.” Replied Shane with an unamused look. “Guess you don’t need me to hold your hand.” he said casually, releasing Ilya’s hand as he moved to sit down on the coaster seat.

“No, still need to hold hand, little boring Canadian may get scared.” Ilya had a small pout on his face just like when they went over to the Pikes’ house for dinner.

“Sure Ilyusha, whatever you say.” Shane entertained his tough guy persona as he intertwined his fingers with Ilya’s.

Even though he thought he was going to die midway and started screaming like a girl, Ilya made it out alive.

After that, Shane and Ilya watched a couple shows and found a spot to eat lunch, they hit up a couple more roller coasters before the sun set.

Ilya and Shane walked around at night, Disney looking a bit more magical than before..

Shane looked in awe at the pretty lights..then his pretty husband then back at the lights then he felt it, Ilya had put Minnie Mouse ears on him, pink and sparkly as he giggled mischievously like a kid that just did a cookie heist successfully.

“Why do I have to get pink?” Shane rolled his eyes but he couldn’t help but find it endearing.

“Cause, pretty.” Ilya put on his own sparkly ears “like you.” Ilya put on his own ears “Plus you need to get into magic, you’re so boring.”

Just as Shane was about to reply the fireworks went off..red, green, pink, and yellow illuminating the night sky as people cheered and clapped around them. Ilya had taken the moment while Shane was surprised to kiss him earning himself a blush from the shorter player.

Ilya leaned down next to Shane’s ear, “She would’ve loved this so much..she would’ve loved you so much, Солнышко..I love you so much.”

Shane felt himself tear a bit as he focused on the pops of color in the sky that were suddenly blurred like abstract art in the night sky.

As they walked out the park, hand in hand, a little boy ran up to them his father trailing behind.

“You’re Shane Hollander!” The kid pointed excitedly. “And you’re Ilya Rozanov!”

The dad finally caught up

“Sorry, he’s a big fan of hockey, you two especially.” The dad panted, clearly winded from running to catch the rambunctious young boy he had the exhausted smile of a father who was tired but content and right where he wanted to be. “Actually if you two wouldn’t mind, could he get a photo?”

“Depends,” Ilya bent down to the kids height ruffling his hair slightly with a mischievous grin on his face. “Who’s your favorite player?”

Shane rolled his eyes at Ilya’s question knowing damn well that he would take the photo anyway.

“You Mr. Ilya! You’re so cool when you swoosh past everyone and score the goal!” The kid jumped up happily , clumsily copying Ilya’s moves on the ice. “When I grow up I’m going to be the best hockey player ever! Just like you!”

Ilya gave the kid a high-five “Good Answer kid,” he remarked as he pulled Shane down to take the photo of the kid, watching the kid beam with joy, his dad tearing up seeing his kid so happy.

“Thank you, Mr. Rozanov, thank you Mr. Hollander.

They got into the rental car in content silence
