Chapter Text
“C’mon, what about her?” asked Jason, while pointing at a pretty woman at the other side of the bar. Percy’s friends were always trying to get him to talk to someone, but he never seemed interested.
“I said I don’t want to,” Percy was slightly annoyed, having to keep turning them down. He took a sip of his drink, “I came here to hang out with my friends, not to talk to random girls.”
Their friend group always went out for drinks once in a while to keep in touch. They used to hang out more during high school and college, but when people start to worry about their jobs and other adult responsibilities, it can get a bit difficult to get together.
Jason sighed, “But you never want to. When was the last time you talked to someone new?”
“I keep meeting new people at work, what are you even talking about?” Percy worked at the local aquarium, mainly as a guide, but also taking care of the fish. His favourite part was making tours for school trips.
“That barely counts. When was the last time you went on a date?” he raised an eyebrow. Truth was, Percy has never gone on a date. It’s not that no one wanted to go out with him. A few people have asked him over the years, he has just always said no.
“Em.. a while? I don’t know,” he said simply, “Just let it be. We talk about this every time.”
They did. Everyone in their friend group was in a long-term relationship. Well, except for Percy. Grover and Juniper were a couple, Frank and Hazel, Leo and Calypso, and Jason and Piper got married a few months ago. Sometimes it did get a little annoying being the only single one in the group, but it didn't bother him much. They were all really good friends.
At the end of the night they all said their goodbyes and went their separate ways. Percy and Grover, his childhood friend, had an apartment together a few minutes away from the bar. When they got home, they didn’t feel too tired yet, so they decided to watch a movie together.
Grover went to pick out a movie while Percy made a small midnight snack. They liked to collect DVD’s of their favorite ones. It was nice to have them physically instead of relying on a subscription service. They even got an old DVD player second hand so they could watch them. It had a nice retro atmosphere too.
“You want to watch The Lightning Thief?” he called out to Percy, who was in the small kitchen making toast, “I don’t think we’ve seen that in a while.”
“Yeah, why not,” said Percy as he made his way to the couch with their snack on two small plates, “Though I might fall asleep halfway through.”
After putting the DVD, Grover thanked him for the food and sat down next to Percy. They watched the movie and made some lazy conversation. They knew the movie word by word at this point having watched it so many times together.
This was one of Percy’s favorite things about having a close friend as a roommate. These quiet nights just chilling together, enjoying each other’s presence. Sometimes having a deep conversation about life and other times a silly conversation about nothing specific.
It was different from when they were younger. Back then they usually hung out just during the day for a few hours. Now, living together, there were a lot of these quiet, peaceful moments. It was nice.
Just like Percy predicted, they fell asleep halfway through the movie.
