Notes:

Hello!
I just wanted to give a couple of disclaimers before getting started!

1. this is my first ever fanfiction/story I've ever written so I apologize if it sucks or is bad

2. Red Dead Redemption 2 is NOT canon
this is because i do not LIKE the story of rdr2 and I refuse to acknowledge it and what they did to john Marston

3. Undead nightmares IS canon because it mildly fits into my story and I like it

4. I am using a lot of head canons and mixtures from multiple medias for Roy Rogers because he doesn't have a consistent canon

5. I characterize the character of Roy Rogers to be mixed race (Native American and White) because he was portrayed very similarly to how they wrote native Americans at the time (I know the actor who played Roy Rogers only had a small amount of American blood in him)

6. Roy Rogers is my favourite character in the world so be wary

7. I haven't actually gotten the chance to finish the Rifleman show so if I miss out on lore I apologize

8. I really struggle with dialogue so please be patient

9. canon is whatever I want it to be fight me

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

It was a dark night, thick gloomy clouds casting shadows across the ranch. The only flickering light source coming from the windows of the ranch house illuminating a young boy who was engrossed in his book. The other occupants of the house had been asleep for hours by now, yet the boy was undeterred. Unbeknownst to him a figure lurking just beyond the light of the lamp was watching through the window. Watching, waiting, biding its time for the perfect chance to strike. Knowing that when it finally made its move all that would be heard was the shattering of glass and a sharp scream. They would be gone before anyone could even get out of bed. The only trace would be the shards of glass and a dusting of soot thrown across the floor.

When the figure saw the boy yawn and reach to douse the light, it shuddered to life as it spotted its opening. Large decaying wings outstretched as it leapt silently from its vantage point. The boy's fate was sealed before he even rose from his chair.
