Chapter 1: Expulsion

Chapter Text

As the months passed since Eda’s rescue, things felt relatively calm. There were no guard teams coming to the house to try and arrest anyone, Luz’s investigations into trying to discover the empire’s secrets had slowed to a crawl thanks to her being both busy at school and at home, and the only thing that could be considered an adventure was that time they had to rescue a sea monster from poachers. However, this would all change as Luz went to school on what seemed to be an ordinary day.

“Could I have Luz Noceda, Willow Park, Augustus Porter, and Amity Blight come down to my office?” Principal Bump announced over the loudspeaker

A short while later, Luz and the others had arrived at the principal’s office looking confused.

“Why did Principal Bump call us?” Gus asked.

“I’m not sure, but I doubt it’s anything too serious,” Luz assured him.

“I hope you’re right,” Willow responded doubtfully, turning the doorknob. What they saw on the other side caused Amity’s face to go pale.

“Mom?! Dad?!” She gasped. “What are you doing here?!”

“Hello Mittens,” Amity’s mother greeted her in a sickly-sweet tone. “Your father and I have noticed that you’ve been falling behind in your studies recently, so we decided to pay your principal a visit to make sure we nip this issue in the bud, isn’t that right Alador,”

Amity’s father looked up from the contraption that he was staring at. “Hm? Oh yeah whatever she said,”

Amity’s mother sighed. “You really should be paying attention Alador, this is highly important,”

“Fine,” Alador sulked as he put the contraption down on the principal’s desk.

“Ok, but if you’re concerned about Amity’s performance in school, why did you have the rest of us called in?” Luz asked.

“Because we believe that you three are the reason behind our daughter’s diminishing performance, so we have decided to have the three of you expelled,” Amity’s mother revealed.

“You can’t do that!” Luz gasped in shock. “We haven’t done anything wrong!”

“Well, that’s the neat part of sponsoring a school like this,” Amity’s mother grinned wickedly. “We can demand any changes to this school as long as it would give my daughter the best education possible, isn’t that right Principal Bump?”

Bump sighed. “Yes, unfortunately my hands are tied in this situation, so I regret to say it, but as of today Luz, Gus, and Willow will no longer be student at Hexside”

“It’s not their fault,” Amity mumbled under her breath.

“What did you say young lady?” Amity’s mother glared at her.

“Nothing!” Amity flinched.

“That’s what I thought sweety, now hurry back to class so you can make up for lost time,” Amity’s mom turned to face the rest of them. “Now, as for the rest of you, pack your bag and get out of this school before I have you all trespassed, understand?” Seeing no other option, Luz, Gus and Willow complied.

When they got out, Luz let out a loud exasperated groan and had [Magical Mystery Tour] slam its fist into a nearby lamppost, causing it to buckle.

“This is bullshit!” She yelled as she had her Stand strike the pole again in order to try and release her pent-up anger. “Oh, I’m Richy McRichpants, and I can do anything I want because my money allows me to ignore the fucking rules,” She ranted in a mocking tone.

“Well, the damage has already been done, so there’s no point in trying to fix it now,” Willow sighed in defeat.

“Yeah no, fuck that,” Luz shook her head. “I’m not giving up quite yet,”

“What are you planning?” Gus asked with a twinge of concern in his voice.

“Nothing violent, don’t worry,” Luz assured them. “I’m just gonna try to convince Amity’s parents to overturn the decision,”

“Good luck with that,” Amity scoffed. “My mother is far too stubborn to listen to anyone other than whoever has their boot in her mouth, and my dad is too much of a pushover to ever go against mother’s wishes,”

“Well, there’s got to be some way to convince them to let us back in Hexside,” Luz pleaded.

“Well, there is one way that might work,” Amity revealed. “But I really wouldn’t recommend it,”

“It can’t be that bad,” Luz reasoned. “Can’t be any worse than fighting against the Emperor,”

“Well, if you’re so convinced, here,” Amity handed Luz a flyer which read.

“Come one, come all to Blightech’s Ninth annual Karn Evil Located at 462 Philadelphia Street on Sunday, April 13th from 6pm to 11pm,”

“What’s this supposed to be?” Luz asked.

“It’s a big tech showcase that my parents host,” Amity explained. “I think that your best bet is to work with them as a volunteer in order to get on their good side, though I doubt it will be that simple,”

“That’s great Amity!” Luz cheered as she suddenly hugged Amity. As soon as she realized what she had done however, she quickly pulled away while blushing furiously. “Sorry about that, I got a bit too excited,”

“No worries,” Amity assured her, her face also a bright red. “I was just a bit surprised is all,”
“Yeah,” Luz nervously cleared her throat. “Thank you for giving us a fighting chance Amity,”

“No need to thank me,” Amity insisted. “I’m just looking out for my friends,”
