“Bae Jinsol, get over here.”
Yoona leaned back against the sofa. Her voice wasn’t loud, but it carried a lazy, needy edge that made it impossible to say no. She had barely left this couch all day. Actually, scratch that, she hadn’t moved more than a couple feet away from Jinsol since morning.
Jinsol walked out from the kitchen holding a glass of warm water. She set it down on the coffee table and wiped her hands as she walked over, a smirk on her face that was equal parts bratty and fond.
“Alright, alright. What are your orders this time, my princess?”
“Sit,” Yoona patted the cushion right next to her.
Jinsol did as she was told, but the second her butt hit the cushion, she used the momentum to flop sideways. She dropped her head straight onto Yoona’s lap, draped her long legs over the armrest, and stretched out like a giant puppy. Looking up at Yoona with bright, wide eyes, she grinned.
“How’s this, babe?”
Yoona stared down at her, then reached out to pinch her cheeks, giving them a hard tug.
“I told you to sit here, not use my lap as a pillow.”
“Ow, ow, hurts!” Jinsol whined, but she didn’t make a single move to sit up. she wrapped her arms around Yoona’s waist and shoved her face right into Yoona’s stomach, nuzzling like crazy. “But this is so comfy. You’re super warm today and you smell amazing. Like, really good.”
Yoona let go and stopped trying to push her off. Not that she really wanted to, anyway. Ever since she woke up this morning, she had felt a restless heat stirring deep inside her. Her temperature kept creeping up, her skin felt overly sensitive, and her scent was growing thick and heavy. Jinsol’s presence felt like the only thing that could make it better. She wanted to touch her more than usual, wanted to be held, and craved the scent at the back of her neck.
These were the telltale signs that her heat was two days away. They had been together for over a year, so Jinsol had her cycle down to a science.
“You dropped the blanket again,” Yoona glanced at the blanket that had slipped onto the floor and gave Jinsol’s butt a little smack. “Pick it up.”
Jinsol lazily reached out an arm to yank the blanket up, carelessly tossing it over Yoona’s thighs and shielding half of her own face. From underneath, she complained in a muffled voice.
“You’re so grumpy today.”
“And I’m not grumpy every day?”
“Okay, yeah, fair point,” Jinsol peeked two eyes out from the edge of the blanket and blinked. “But today, you look freaking cute when you’re grumpy. Like... uhumm... you know those cats that puff up? They clearly want to be pet so damn bad, but they still act all cold and superior. That’s you. Meow meow.”
Yoona tried to bite back a smile and raised her hand like she was about to smack Jinsol.
Jinsol immediately squeezed her eyes shut and ducked, but her mouth was stretched wide in a grin.
The hand finally landed on her hair, gently stroking her head instead of striking down. Yoona’s fingers moved slowly through the strands, which still carried the faint citrus scent of shampoo from her recent shower. Jinsol relaxed completely, turning into putty just like a puppy getting its chin scratched.
“Mmm...” She let out a deeply satisfied sigh. “A little higher, please.”
Yoona couldn’t help but laugh. She ruffled Jinsol’s hair even harder on purpose. “Give you an inch and you take a mile, huh?”
“I know you wouldn’t actually hurt me today anyway,” Jinsol said with absolute certainty, keeping her eyes closed.
It was one of those typical Saturday afternoons in the capital. Sunlight spread a thin layer across the floor, turning the living room all warm and soft. They had only moved into this two bedroom place last week. Unpacked cardboard boxes were still stacked in the corner, but the living room already had the cozy, lived-in feel of their daily routine.
Yoona knew she was being extra clingy today. Ever since Jinsol asked her what she wanted to eat this morning, she had been shadowing her every move. She followed her from the kitchen to the living room, from the living room out to the balcony. Finally, Jinsol had to turn around, pull her into a hug, and tease her with a laugh. “You trying to grow roots on me or something?”
She hadn’t answered back then, only burying her face into the crook of Jinsol’s neck to take a deep breath. The pheromones coming from that spot were stronger than usual. It was like her Alpha knew she was heading into heat and was getting ready.
Thinking back, that hug was the most peaceful moment she had had all day.
“What are you thinking about?” Jinsol spoke up suddenly, her voice muffled by the blanket.
Yoona’s fingers stopped moving near her temple.
“Thinking about how noisy you are.”
Jinsol opened her eyes and turned her head to look at her, her playful mood suddenly turning serious.
“Because I don’t want you to get bored.”
Jinsol sat up as she spoke, erasing the distance between them. She reached out to cup Yoona’s face, gently rubbing her thumb over her cheekbone. “Are you feeling okay? You gotta tell me if something’s wrong.”
Those bright eyes staring at her with concern looked almost hypnotic. Yoona parted her lips to speak, but she ultimately just shook her head.
“I’m fine. Just... a little tired.”
“Want to go lay down in bed?”
“No,” Yoona’s answer came as a total reflex. She paused for a moment before adding. “Let’s just stay here.”
Jinsol chuckled and didn’t push it. She grabbed the remote to turn off the TV, stacked the two throw pillows against the couch arm, and leaned back against them while opening her arms wide.
Yoona glanced at her.
“What?” Jinsol tilted her head. “Thought you wanted to stay here. Come here.”
Yoona didn’t move.
“Yoona-ahhh.”
“You’re so annoying.”
She grumbled but still leaned her body over. Her back pressed firmly against Jinsol’s chest, her shoulders fitting perfectly right below the Alpha’s collarbone while the crown of her head rested against Jinsol’s chin. Jinsol’s arms wrapped around her waist and pulled her close.
It was a perfect fit, not too tight and not too loose. Jinsol’s temperature made her feel like a living, breathing space heater, and the steady heartbeat pulsing through the thin sweatshirt against Yoona’s back brought a deep sense of safety.
“Your waist is tiny,” Jinsol said out of nowhere, giving her a little squeeze. “Look, my hands can wrap all the way around it.”
“Yours is even smaller.”
“Heh, then you can wrap your hands around mine too,” Jinsol tightened her arms. “But for real, you smell so good today. Not perfume or whatever. I mean your smell. It’s just a little stronger than usual.”
An Omega’s pheromones always became richer before heat. Yoona couldn’t smell a huge difference herself, but an Alpha was bound to be sensitive to it.
“Keep sniffing me and I’ll bite you,” she could feel the tip of Jinsol’s nose nuzzling against her hair as they talked.
Jinsol burst into a laugh that rumbled against the top of Yoona’s head, sending a pleasant tingle straight to her scalp.
“Go ahead. You love biting me anyway, don’t you? The marks you left on my shoulder last time took a whole week to disappear.”
“Serves you right.”
“Hey, I’m not complaining,” Jinsol lowered her head and pressed her lips right against Yoona’s ear. Her voice dropped to this low, almost a whisper.
“You can bite me anywhere you want.”
Yoona’s ear turned red so fast Jinsol could actually see it happen. She jabbed her elbow back into Jinsol.
“You’re so shameless.”
“Ow!” Jinsol let out this super fake yelp. “You’re the one who talked about biting first and now I’m the shameless one? Yoona, do you even have any logic?”
“I don’t do logic.”
“Okay, fair point.”
“And you are still here taking care of me whenever I’m in heat,” Yoona said, all proudly, unable to hide the happiness bubbling up from having such a cozy, perfect moment.
“Duh,” Jinsol moved her chin off the top of her head, turning her face to press against Yoona’s temple while her nose brushed through her hair. “Of course I’m gonna be here for your heat. Who else would you even look for?”
“Shut up for two seconds, please.”
“Can’t. I’d choke.”
Yoona glanced sideways at her, taking in that sharp jawline, that straight nose with the rounded tip, those slightly pouty lips, those sparkling eyes. She looked so full of herself, but in a really adorable way. Driven by a sudden urge, she grabbed Jinsol’s collar and pulled her down.
Before Jinsol could even process what was happening, her lips were sealed.
Yoona pressed her mouth hard against hers, starting with a soft touch before deepening the pressure.
It took a second for that softness to snap Jinsol out of her daze, but once it did, she melted into the kiss with eager warmth. Her hand slid down from Yoona’s waist to anchor her tightly against her lap, while her other hand came up to cradle the back of her neck. Yoona’s hair fell around them like a curtain, shutting out the rest of the room and trapping them in a small world of their own.
The kiss deepened as they tasted each other, their unique scents blending together. The air grew heavy and warm, filled to the brim with pheromones that coated every sharp edge in the room with a thick, sweet haze.
Neither of them knew how long it lasted. Yoona pulled back first. She moved away just a little and looked at Jinsol, who still had that dazed look on her face. She suddenly laughed out loud.
“You look so spaced out.”
Jinsol blinked a couple of times, all goofy and confused. “You kissed me.”
“Yeah, I did. Problem?”
“Nope,” Jinsol licked her lips, trying to catch the lingering sweetness. “I love it. Can I get a few more of those later?”
Yoona patted her cheek. “We’ll see if you behave.”
“I always behave!”
“Who spilled milk all over the table this morning?”
“That was an accident!”
“Who hid my charger yesterday?”
“I didn’t hide it! It fell under the bed!”
“And the day before that, who—”
“Okay, okay, okay!” Jinsol buried her face into the crook of Yoona’s shoulder, all dramatic and defeated. “You seriously hold grudges forever.”
Yoona giggled and looked down at that fluffy head of hair. She wrapped her arms around Jinsol’s shoulders and gently massaged the back of her neck, right where an Alpha’s gland was. Jinsol turned to absolute mush under her touch, letting out a weak groan.
“Stop, don’t...” Her voice sounded like she was half-asleep. “Keep doing that and I’m gonna pass out.”
“Then sleep.”
“But I’m supposed to keep you company.”
“I’m not a toddler, I don’t need a babysitter,” Yoona talked tough, but her hands only grew gentler, smoothing over her neck. “Just sleep. I’ll wake you up when dinner’s ready.”
Jinsol slowly lifted her drowsy face to look at her. “Are you actually gonna wake me up though? Last time you said you would, you ended up eating the whole dinner by yourself.”
“That was because you were dead asleep. I called you like a million times, and you wouldn’t get up.”
“You could have shaken me harder.”
“I did. You just rolled over and said five more minutes.”
Jinsol couldn’t find a single thing to defend herself. Muttering something under her breath, she buried her face back down and finally closed her eyes for real. Her breathing quickly became deep and even.
Yoona looked down at the woman in her arms and just watched her for a long time.
She thought to herself that she would probably never tell Jinsol how much she loved these exact moments. They didn’t need to go out or do anything special. It was enough to just cuddle together on the couch, share a blanket, drink from the same glass, and lose an entire afternoon wrapped in each other’s warmth. Jinsol probably felt like it went without saying, but Yoona knew that some things lost their meaning if they were never spoken aloud.
“Jinsol,” she whispered, her voice so soft it was barely audible.
Jinsol stirred slightly but didn’t wake up.
Yoona leaned down to press a feather-light kiss to her forehead, then pulled the blanket a little higher to cover both of their shoulders.
The sky slowly bled into a golden orange, marking the end of another quiet weekend. Lowering her head, she buried her face into Jinsol’s soft hair and closed her eyes. The person in her arms breathed steadily, her chest rising and falling with every heartbeat. As the light in the living room continued to fade, Yoona didn’t feel like getting up to turn on the lamp at all.
It was perfect just staying like this.
