Work Text:
Hearts raced as their legs carried them faster up the stairs. Till held Ivan’s hand as he pulled him along, determined to reach his goal. His teal eyes blazing red with passion at what he wanted to do. Ivan followed loyally, turning around every so often to check behind them.
Once at the top of the stairs Ivan pulled out his keys. As student body president and overall teachers pet, nobody batted an eye when he took the key ring that could open just about any room in the school.
When they opened the door they turned a corner and Ivan pressed his back against the wall, wrapping his arms around Till’s neck. They stared into each others eyes for a second, assessing who would give in first. And just as they leaned foreword.
“Hello? Sorry kids but you can’t be up here right now.” A voice chimed from around the corner.
They immediately pull apart. Ivan putting his hands behind his back and plastering on his golden boy smile while Till shoved his hands in his pockets and looks away, hiding his tomato face.
“Excuse us, we’re installing the new solar panels so nobody is allowed up here for time being. Please make sure to close and lock the door behind you.” Said the maintenance men.
“Ah yes, sorry.” The two of them shamefully exited and headed back down the stairs. So much for their romantic rooftop kiss, maybe next time.
That next time came when he and Ivan were just passing by the outdoor basketball court and someone called out to him.
“Hey Till come join us for a game! We need one more.” Marty shouted.
“Oh yeah sure!” He responds.
As he started to set his bag down, Acorn tried to toss the ball to him off court. but it seemed to have a mind of his own as it made contact with Till's face and knocked him into the fencing. When he looked up, his nose was already bleeding and blood was smeared across his face.
“oh shit!” Acorn and Marty came over to check on him. Ivan bent down and pinched his nose in between his fingers.
“Ow get your hand off me bastard!”
“He’ll be fine. I’ll take him to get some bandages.” Ivan smiled at the classmates.
“Yeah, go on. Sorry about that Till, I’ll buy you an ice cream later.” Acorn waved.
“Doofus” Marty slapped him upside the head.
Ivan grabbed onto Till’s shoulders and guided him in front to the nurses office as he leaned his head back to keep the blood from pouring out more. The white and blue room was empty so the nurse must have gone on break. He sat him down and stared searching for some bandages.
“I thought you were pretty good at sports. Why did you catch the ball with your face?” He asks.
“Fuck you, like I did that on purpose. I’m gonna make Acorn buy the most expensive ice cream at the convenience store.”
Ivan chuckles. “I’m a little bummed I didn’t get to watch you play though.”
Till perks up a little. “Really?”
“Of course. Who wouldn’t want to watch their boyfriend get all sweaty handling balls so well?” Ivan grinned, sitting next to him on the bed.
Till punches him in the shoulder. “Shut the fuck up."
He just laughed as he leans forward with an antiseptic wipe. He cleans the blood from his face, then applies a bandage over the bridge and on his cheek.
“There all done.”
“Thanks.” Till mumbles. But before Ivan could stand up, Till puts his hand on his. “Aren’t you forgetting something?” He asks.
Ivan thinks for a moment before going pink cheeked. He leaned forward again and lightly kissed the bridge of his nose.
“mmm, not quite.” Till leans forward again and Ivan can hear his heart rate pick up. They close their eyes and till their heads when.
“Hey nurse are you here?” A green haired girl walks in. “Oh hi class prez. Is the nurse in?” She asks while clutching her midsection.
“Ah sorry, no she left for a bit. Do you need help?” He asked, getting up from the bed. Till frowns.
“Take these with some water, they should kick in quick.”
The bell rings, signaling lunch is over.
“Thanks Ivan.”
“No problem Durian. come on Till, let’s get back to class.”
They walk in silence as the mood was ruined from their romantic little moment. Oh well. Next time, Till thinks.
But much to their dismay, this pattern didn’t seem to stop. Every time they found themselves alone and the mood was right, something would happen.
An empty classroom with a beautiful sunset. The breeze lightly moving the curtains. Ivan looked lovely against the the light warm hues.
“I guess everyone’s gone home, we should pack up as well.” Ivan said.
“Let’s finish watching the sunset, I might want to draw it later.” Till’s pink cheeks were thankfully hidden by the pinker skies.
Ivan smirked to himself and sat against the desk with Till. They watched in silence as Till pulled out his phone and took a few pictures for later. When he put his phone back, he took in a big breath and sighed, snaking an arm around Ivan’s midsection. Ivan gladly indulged and leaned into Till. His head perfectly fitting right over his due to the height difference.
They continued watching the changing hues, content, peaceful. Till squeezed hand on Ivan’s waist and turned his head to look at him. They closed their eyes and tried to close the distance.
Wham. The classroom door quickly opened and reveled a trio of brown, blond and viridian hair.
“Thank god the doors open.” Acorn sighs.
Durian shrugs. “It’s your fault for leaving it in your desk.”
They look up and see the two boys half embracing each other.
Marty immediately pulls the two back. “Oh shit, sorry guys.”
Till scrambles to gather his bag and make his way to the door. “Whatever, just fuck off!” He rushes past the three.
“Don’t worry about him. Come on, let’s go.” Ivan let’s acorn retrieve his math notebook from his desk and gets up with his bag as well as he locks the door behind them.
“Sorry about that, class prez.”
“It’s fine. Luckily I was here and you could get your things.”
“Thanks a lot Ivan.” Acorn looks apologetic.
“Don’t worry, let’s go home now. I’ll see you all tomorrow.”
The trio were about to thank him again when Marty caught the mean side glare of the raven haired boy. He quickly covered the mouths of his friends and let Ivan leave first.
After what Till called that humiliation ritual, he took his time and came up with a time and place they wouldn’t be interrupted. Behind the school where there were no windows and during lunch when everyone was eating or inside. Neatly trimmed trees and bushes lined the immaculate landscaping.
Surely no one would come here. Ivan was pressed up against a tree. His back straightened against the bark as Till leaned over him. Granted their slight high difference and Till’s hunching habit made it seem more like Till was resting against Ivan's chest.
He took Ivan’s chin in his hand. Their eyes met and Ivan’s red pupils were already blown wider by the proximity. Till nuzzled him a few times, whispering sweet words against his collarbones. Finally he looked up and began to lean in. But just as his lips almost met, Ivan grabbed his face.
“Uh sorry Till but, did you forget to brush your teeth after lunch?” Ivan’s expression almost read as pity.
Till’s expression dropped in mortification. He absolutely forgot. He scarfed down his lunch and headed out early specifically to meet Ivan here. He suddenly recalled the sheer amount of raw onions, fish stew and broccoli salad that was served that day.
He then backed up, his face practically blue. “I-I’m sorry!” he yelled before dashing off back into the school. But by the time he finished, Ivan was back and it was time for class to start.
Eventually Till thought he finally had it. He invited Ivan over to his house for a movie. They sat in the living room huddled on the floor, their hands curled together. Till had made sure everything was perfect. He brushed his teeth, chewed a mint and applied plenty of chap stick before Ivan came over.
The movie was a mystery movie Ivan wanted to watch but didn’t get to see in theaters. So Till dutifully rented it and prepared a cozy blanket setup on the floor. When it got to the kissing scene Till glanced to his side at Ivan. His expression was neutral enough but his slightly blushed cheeks told otherwise.
Till pulled their entangled hands up to his mouth. They could both feel the flight warmth and moistness from holding hands for so long but neither of them cared. Ivan turned to face Till. His teal irises slightly glowing with the blue hue of the movie. Focused, determined. Ivan leaned forward as Till bring their hand down just enough to not get in the way. Then all of the sudden a voice.
“Till honey, I’m home. Why did you have the lights-” Io cut herself off. “oh hello dear. Till I thought we had an agreement, no bringing over friends without letting me know.”
“Mom! I thought you had the night shift.” Till blurts out.
“I did but I managed to trade with a coworker. Hello Ivan dear.” She smiled.
“Hello miss Io.” Ivan smiled but the heat still radiate of his neck.
“I’m sorry honey but did you let your mom know you were here?” She asked.
“ah, no…” Ivan trailed off.
“Ok. Well it’s rather late and if you didn’t tell your mom you were here I'm sure she’s worried. Sorry honey but I’ll drop you back off at your house since it’s so late.”
There was no arguing with a parent about a child’s well being. And with that came an end to Till’s guaranteed ultimate first kiss plan.
At this point it was ridiculous. Till had tried everything in his adolescent power to have his perfect first kiss with his perfect boyfriend. Ivan is beautiful and pure, he deserved only the best first kiss ever. But every plan he came up with seemed to fall through. What would it take? He’s tried to get Ivan alone and in the mood multiple times but somehow it just gets ruined.
Even now. The both of them sat on the stairs outside eating ice cream packs. They watched as their friends hung out on the basketball court. Normally I'd just be the boys but Mizi and Hyuna were putting them to shame. They laughed as Hyuna jumped and dunked on Acorn.
As Till’s mind wandered off somewhere, Ivan looked at him. He knew Till has been trying his best to get a first kiss with him. And he’d be lying if he said he wasn't just as excited. Every time the mood got ruined and Till became too embarrassed to continue, Ivan silently smiled and felt the annoyance pool inside him.
He knew Till didn’t like to initiate but he’s made such an effort to do so. Ivan himself wasn’t great at it either so he was delighted Till tried so hard. But he’d become impatient. He sighed, then he leaned into Till.
“Hey.” He spoke before grabbing Till’s chin and placing his lips right on Till’s.
Till’s eye shot open and he almost screamed. Ivan kept them pressed together for a good ten seconds before letting him go.
“Y-You. Why did you?” Till managed to get out.
Ivan let out a breath, slightly red from the kiss. “Look I appreciate all you’ve done so far but, this was getting annoying.”
“augh!’ Till shouted. their friends looked at them for a second and saw Till was having another moment. Ivan waved back, signaling everything was ok so they just ignored it.
“Dammit, it was supposed to be more romantic than this. I wanted it it be perfect.” He moaned.
“Why? You know I don’t really expect anything.”
Till frowned. “I really wanted to make it more romantic though. I wanted you to be swept off your feet.”
Ivan blushed, then laughed. “Sorry but that’s a bit of a stretch for you right?”
“Hey, I'm perfectly capable of it!” Till grabbed Ivan’s head and messed up his strands.
“But Till, I really don’t care. I just wanted to do it with you. If anything I thought you might not want to kiss me.”
“huh? But you’re so? Why wouldn’t I want to kiss you? You’re the cutest guy I've ever known.” Till actually seemed a bit confused as he was speaking form the heart.
Ivan’s eyes went a bit wide.
“Yeah. I know you might not see it but. I wouldn’t be around you I I didn't like you right?” He rubbed the back of his head.
“Then, you wouldn’t mind giving me another?” Ivan asked. His eyes flicking between Till and the ground.
Without hesitation, Till put his arm around Ivan’s back and leaned to kiss him again. Their eyes closed and their lips pressing back into each other this time. Sparks flew off of them again as they became wrapped in their own world. Finally, Till got to kiss his boyfriend.
