Takaoka is drunk out his mind outside the school, on the main campus for some reason. You'd think he's go up to the mountain, but he must have known that 3E were down for an assembly, as here he is. 3E were just on their way to the assembly, so it was just the students, Karasuma, and Irina. Korosensei had gone to Hawaii or somewhere since he wasn't allowed at assemblies (for obvious reasons). 3E were currently at a standstill whilst Takaoka aimed the gun at them.
The principal had a bad feeling. 3E should be here by now. Whilst one of the other teachers took over the assembly, he went to find them.
Asano had a bad feeling. He went after the principal.

"You!" Takaoka yelled at the principal. "How dare you fire me! I'm gonna...get revenge!" He slurred. Then his eyes turned gleeful as he spotted him. He pointed the gun just to the left of the principal and shot. BANG! 3E and the principal turned to see Asano Gakushuu with a red stain where his heart was. He was still standing up, frozen, like he couldn't believe what was happening. They were all frozen. Karma was the first to snap out of it, and ran to Asano, who fell just before he could catch him. Karma pressed his hands over Asano's heart only for them to become covered in blood. "Someone...ambulance!" He yelled.
Someone called the ambulance. Karma doesn't know who. Doesn't care. Only that the ambulance was on its way. Finally, the principal snapped out of his frozen state and ran towards his son. Asano said nothing, just kept blinking.
Eventually he stopped blinking, and he laid there, eyes open and unmoving. "No, no, no. Where's the ambulance?" Karma yelled, Karma cried.
The ambulance arrived. Too late. Not that they could have solved a bullet in the heart anyway. Asano was dead.

The principal resigned. He stayed in his house, busying himself in behind-the-scenes work.
Ren shut down. He hardly went to school. Hardly ate. Hardly slept.
Karma was angry. He would snap randomly. He would break things. He also stayed at home a lot.

The day of the funeral came. The principal said an emotional speech in a very detached way. Ren said an emotional speech in an emotional way. Karma didn't listen. Karma didn't care.
They're all going up to the coffin in the ground one by one before it's buried. Ren overhears what Karma says.
"Why did you leave me all alone?"
Ren punched Karma in the face. They fight.

Later, Ren holding a bandage to his eye, and Karma his nose, they talk.
"Why are you so upset? You weren't friends." Ren spat.
"I held him as he died."
"Lucky you."
Karma shoved a letter in Ren's hand.
"What's this?"
"A love letter."
"...To Asano?"
Karma nodded. "I liked him. I never got to tell him how I feel."
Ren shoved an almost identical letter in his hands. "I loved him too. I didn't tell him how I felt either."
Ren and Karma hate each other. But they're the only ones who understand each other too.

Ren and Karma hang out. Sometimes they fight. Sometimes they talk. Occasionally they even study.
One day Karma snaps and had a bit of a breakdown whilst he was at home alone. He may or may not have ordered orange hair dye and purple contact lenses. He knows he's fucked up for doing this, he knows. But they look quite similar, really. Same face structure, similar hairstyles. He dyes his hair without bleaching it for an orange-red effect. He puts the contacts in and dresses up in the school uniform he never bothered to wear.
Ren came round unannounced. Karma had given him the spare key ages ago. He saw Karma and froze.
"I'm sorry." Karma choked. "I know it's fucked up. I just...I needed more than a photo of him. I needed to see him...move." He doesn't have a good excuse.
Ren kisses him, and Karma freezes. This is so fucked up. They shouldn't be doing this.
Ren must have come to the same conclusion to, because he gently takes Karma upstairs and washes the temporary dye out. Karma takes the contact lenses out. They fall asleep laying in bed together.

Ren and Karma start going out. Their respective friends are confused because they never saw this coming, but they seem happier than they've been in months, so they don't question it.
They don't question it.
