Tori walked into the bar. It was small, somewhat quiet, yet also somehow packed. She was a known customer at this bar, considering all the times she’d previously come. She sat down at the bar. “Ahh, hi Tori.. the usual?” The bartender asked. Tori sighed and nodded. “Rough day or something?” The bartender questioned while making Tori’s usual, which was Jack Daniel’s and Coke. Tori sighed in response and placed her hands over her face. “Ugh, yes, auditions and trying to find gigs for cash.” She groaned once more. “Just keep trying.” The bartender smiled and handed Tori her drink. She smiled and nodded, saying thank you. “Soo-“ Tori looked at the nametag on the bartender's shirt, which said “Chris.” “So Chris, what have you been up to?” Tori said awkwardly. She was a regular customer, yet she’d always forget names. “Just bartending and uh stuff!” Chris exclaimed. “Stuff?” Tori questioned. “I’ve been going on dates and looking on Grindr,” Chris muttered. Tori slammed her hands on the table and slightly yelled. “YOU’RE GAY?” Tori gasped. Chris quickly shushed Tori. “I have been for a while, also keep your voice down, god woman.” Chris jokingly scoffed.
“What about you, Vega, talking to anyone or dating anybody? What about that old little friend group of yours?” Chris asked while working behind the counter. “No, not really, I haven’t talked to any of them since we parted ways in high school, which was obviously a while ago.” Tori replied. “I think one of your old buddies came in here not that long ago, good friend of mine.” Chris replied. Tori raised an eyebrow at this statement. “Who?” Tori questioned while she took a sip of her drink. “Jade Wes-“ Chris was abruptly cut off by Tori. “Yeah, no, I’m gonna stop you right there, Jade HATED me in high school, yet we were somehow in the same friend group. I always tried my hardest to be nice to her, but she was always a major ass towards me.” Tori sighed and took a sip of her drink. “Really? When she came here, she talked all about you; she seemed to have wanted to catch up with you or talk.” Chris said, slightly confused. “Well, I don’t understand why she’s always been so confusing towards me.” Tori groaned and took another sip of her drink. “Well, you want my advice?” Chris asked. Tori responded by nodding. “I think you should talk to her; maybe she’ll apologize. Chris remarked. Just then, as he said that, someone walked into the bar.
Chris looked up, and his eyes widened. “What?” Tori muttered. “Hi Jade.” Chris exclaimed. Jade smiled and waved as she walked towards the bar. “Fuck.” Tori whispered under her breath. “Please don’t notice me, please don’t notice me.” She thought to herself. She then felt arms around her shoulder from behind. “Chris, you know my usual, hey also-” She whispered something in his ear. He smiled and nodded. He then began preparing her drink, a gin and tonic. She ran her hands through Tori’s hair and all over her neck and shoulders.
Tori sighed. Jade sat down next to her. “Hi, Vega, how are you?” Jade smiled teasingly. “Good, uh- how are you?” She asked while taking another sip of her drink. “I’m good myself.” Jade replied. Just then, Chris handed her the gin and tonic. “Chris, get me four shots of vodka, tonight- tonight’s gonna be long.” Tori sighed and put her hands over her face. Chris laughed in response and nodded. “You remember what used to be here, right?” Jade questioned. “What?” Tori replied.
“Nozu? Remember the sushi place where we went on our “date”? Jade asked as she took a sip of her drink. “Oh yeah. I remember.” Tori muttered. Jade finished the rest of her drink. Tori got her shots from Chris, and she downed them one by one in a row. “Whoa, easy, Tori, you still need to get home in one piece.” Tori laughed. “Keep the drinks coming, Chris iiii- I want them.” Tori slurred. She was drinking like a madman, and it was hitting her hard. “Tori, you need to cool it.” Jade groaned. Tori just laughed in response and poked her face. “Tori, I’ll give you water, but you seriously need to cool it.” Chris sighed. Tori frowned and rolled her eyes playfully, still accepting the glass of water.
All of a sudden, Tori felt a tall presence behind her. “Hey there.” It was some sleazy jock trying to get her attention. “Uh.. hi?” Tori said, slightly confused. Jade placed her hand on Tori’s thigh. “She’s my girlfriend, go away.” Jade exclaimed. The guy laughed, “Oh yeah? If she’s your girlfriend, then kiss her.” He scoffed. Jade stared at Tori, who had a blank expression. She then leaned in and kissed her. The kiss was needy and slow. By the time she pulled away, the guy had walked away. Tori nodded and put her head down on the bar. She was okay but still very drunk. “Jade, I think you should drive her home, or to your house, both of you are drunk, but you’re not as bad as she is.” Chris insisted. Jade nodded. “And hey, don’t worry about anything, you’ve paid for your stuff as well as hers, just leave before it gets too late.” He reassured. “Okay, thanks, Chris, I’ll talk to you later.” Jade replied as she stood up. “Tori, come on,” she said. She picked up Tori, who was half asleep, half awake, and walked out the door to her car. “Whe- where are you taking me?” She moaned. “To my house.” Jade said as she put Tori in the passenger seat and buckled her seatbelt. “I feel dizzyyy” Tori whined. “Yeah, that’s what happens when you drink like there’s no tomorrow.” Jade laughed as she started the car.
The first few minutes of the ride were quiet, not a bad quiet, just a surreal quiet. Tori was the first to break the silence. “Jade?” She said while fiddling with her hands. “Hm?” Jade responded. “Why- why have you been so nice to me? You used to— hate me in high school.” Tori snapped. Jade didn’t respond; she just kept driving. Tori sighed at the lack of reply. “And why did you kiss me?” She yelled. Jade sighed and responded. “I kissed you because I didn’t want that guy to do anything to you.” She sighed as she pulled into the driveway of her house. “You still didn’t answer my question.” Tori huffed as she unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car. Jade got out of the car as well and walked towards the front door with Tori walking next to her. Tori grabbed Jade’s hand, which was about to unlock the front door, and made Jade look at her. “I always tried to be there for you and be a good friend to you despite you hating me, so why are you being so nice to me after everything you’ve put me through? spilling coffee on me, faking a black eye that was “caused by me”, kicking me out of-“
Jade grabbed her and pinned her against the front door and kissed her. Tori didn’t pull away; she kissed her back, but pulled away. “You wanna know why I was such a bitch? Jade unlocked the door and grabbed Tori’s arm, pulling her inside and shutting the door behind her.
