The grand halls of Bangtan Palace echoed with the fury of raised voices that night.
“You will marry the Princess of Eldoria, and that is final!” King Seojun’s roar shook the crystal chandeliers. “An Alpha prince does not run from duty. You were born for this throne, Taehyung. You will secure this alliance with your bite and your seed, or you will watch this kingdom crumble under war!”
Taehyung stood tall, shoulders squared, crimson cloak billowing behind him like spilled blood. His golden eyes burned with defiance, the sharp scent of his Alpha pheromones — dark cherry wine and smoldering cedar — flooding the throne room in waves of raw power.
“I will not be sold like livestock for a peace that will never last,” he growled, voice low and dangerous. “Eldoria’s princess carries the scent of lies and political poison. I refuse to bind myself to a stranger while my own heart revolts.”
The King slammed his fist on the arm of the throne. “Then you are no son of mine.”
The words cut deeper than any blade.
Taehyung turned on his heel without bowing, ignoring the gasps of the courtiers and the frantic whispers of the guards. His boots struck the marble floor with purpose as he stormed out of the throne room, heart pounding like war drums in his chest.
He had minutes. Maybe less.
By the time the royal guards were mobilized, Taehyung was already in the eastern stables. He didn’t take his prized white stallion — too recognizable. Instead, he chose a black mare named Shadow, saddling her with swift, practiced hands. He stuffed a small pack with dried meat, a waterskin, a dagger, and a single change of clothes. No crown. No royal seal. Just the plain black tunic and cloak of a common traveler.
“Run with me, girl,” he whispered to the mare, stroking her neck. “Let’s disappear.”
They galloped out through the servant’s gate under the cover of a moonless sky. The wind whipped against his face as the palace lights grew smaller behind him. Shouts echoed in the distance — the hunt had begun.
Taehyung rode hard through the night, pushing Shadow to her limits. He knew the kingdom’s roads too well; every patrol route, every checkpoint. To survive, he had only one choice left.
The Forbidden Forest.
Legends spoke of it in hushed tones. A place where ancient magic still breathed, where trees moved when no wind blew, where those who entered with greed in their hearts never returned. The royal family had forbidden anyone from entering for generations. Even the bravest scouts avoided its borders.
Perfect.
As the first hints of dawn painted the horizon in bruised purples and deep indigos, Taehyung reached the edge of the treeline. The air changed instantly. It grew thicker, heavier with the scent of moss, wild honey, and something electric — like lightning trapped in flower petals. The trees loomed taller than any he had seen, their trunks twisted like old guardians, branches reaching out like warning hands.
He hesitated only for a moment.
Then he urged Shadow forward.
The moment they crossed the threshold, the world shifted.
The temperature dropped. Mist curled around the mare’s hooves like living smoke. The usual forest sounds — birds, rustling leaves, distant animals — faded into an eerie silence broken only by the occasional whisper of wind that sounded almost like voices. Ancient voices.
“Foolish Alpha…” the wind seemed to hiss.
Taehyung clenched his jaw and kept riding. His Alpha instincts screamed at him to turn back, to fight, to dominate this strange new territory. But he pushed them down. He had no choice.
Hours blurred together as they ventured deeper. The canopy above grew so thick that daylight barely reached the forest floor, turning everything into a twilight realm of emerald and shadow. Bioluminescent flowers bloomed along hidden paths, pulsing soft blue and violet. For a moment, Taehyung was almost enchanted by their beauty.
Until the forest decided it did not want him there.
A low branch suddenly whipped down, striking Shadow across the flank. The mare reared in panic, throwing Taehyung off her back. He hit the ground hard, rolling across sharp rocks and thorns that tore into his arms and side.
“Shadow!” he shouted.
But the mare was already bolting away, disappearing into the trees with a terrified whinny. Taehyung cursed, pushing himself up. Blood trickled down his temple. His ribs ached.
He kept moving.
The forest fought him at every turn.
Roots deliberately rose from the earth to trip him. Thorns reached out like claws, slicing through his cloak and tunic. A swarm of glowing insects attacked his face, their bites burning like fire. The further he went, the more the air grew heavy with oppressive magic, pressing down on his chest like a physical weight.
Taehyung’s breath came in ragged gasps. His Alpha strength was formidable, but even he had limits. Hunger gnawed at him. Blood loss made his vision blur at the edges. The cherry-wine scent of his pheromones grew weaker, tainted by pain and exhaustion.
“Why… won’t you let me through?” he muttered through gritted teeth, leaning against a massive oak tree.
The tree seemed to shudder. A low groan echoed from its trunk, as if answering him.
He didn’t know how long he walked. Time felt distorted here — minutes stretching into hours, or perhaps hours collapsing into mere heartbeats. The beautiful, terrifying forest continued its assault. A hidden ravine nearly claimed him when the ground gave way beneath his boots. He barely caught a root in time, hanging precariously over a dark drop before pulling himself up with bleeding fingers.
By the time night fell again, Taehyung was barely standing.
His black cloak hung in tatters. Deep gashes marked his left thigh and torso. Every step sent fire through his body. His golden eyes, once bright with royal fire, were now dull with fatigue. The powerful Alpha scent that usually commanded respect had faded into something fragile and desperate — sweet blood mixed with fading cedar.
He collapsed against the base of an ancient willow tree beside a small, glowing stream. The water shimmered with flecks of silver light, as if stars had fallen into it.
Taehyung laughed bitterly, the sound raw and broken.
“So this is how the great Prince Kim Taehyung dies… Not in battle. Not on a throne. But eaten alive by a fucking forest.”
His eyelids grew unbearably heavy. The cold crept into his bones. He could feel his body shutting down — the Alpha instincts finally surrendering to the overwhelming magic of this place.
As unconsciousness pulled him under, a faint new scent reached him through the haze.
Something soft. Warm. Like wild berries kissed by morning dew and fresh rain on pine needles.
An Omega’s scent.
Delicate, yet fiercely alive.
The last thing Taehyung saw before darkness claimed him completely was a pair of wide, wary doe eyes watching him from between the trees — beautiful, luminous, and filled with conflict. Then everything went black.
——
The forest never slept. Even in the deepest hours of night, it whispered, watched, and judged. Tonight, the ancient trees murmured louder than usual, their leaves rustling with urgent warning. Something dangerous had entered their domain — an Alpha carrying the heavy stench of stone walls, polished gold, and human greed.
Jungkook crouched silently on a thick branch high above the glowing stream, his bare feet gripping the moss-covered bark with natural ease. His large, dark eyes narrowed as he studied the collapsed figure below.
The stranger was massive. Broad shoulders, long limbs, and the unmistakable build of a royal Alpha. Even unconscious and bleeding, the man radiated power. His scent — rich dark cherry wine mixed with smoldering cedar — cut through the clean air of the forest like a blade. It made Jungkook’s instincts flare with both fear and something dangerously close to curiosity.
He smells like the ones who killed them.
Jungkook’s jaw tightened. Memories of fire and screams flashed behind his eyes — his parents’ bodies dragged away by royal hunters years ago. Ever since that day, he had sworn to protect this forest from men like this.
And yet…
The Alpha was dying.
Blood soaked through the torn black tunic, staining the moss beneath him crimson. His breathing was shallow, labored. The forest’s magic had punished him harshly, as it always did to intruders. But something in Jungkook’s chest twisted painfully at the sight.
His Omega nature — soft, nurturing, and cursed with too much empathy — refused to let him walk away.
“Stupid,” Jungkook muttered under his breath, his voice light and melodic, like wind through silver bells. “You should’ve stayed in your golden cage, Alpha.”
He dropped down from the tree with graceful silence, landing softly beside the unconscious man. Up close, the stranger was even more striking. Sharp jawline, full lips slightly parted in pain, long lashes casting shadows on high cheekbones. Blood matted his dark hair, but Jungkook could tell it was the color of expensive mahogany.
Jungkook reached out hesitantly, his slender fingers hovering over the Alpha’s chest. The moment he touched him, a spark of energy jumped between them. Taehyung’s weakened Alpha pheromones reacted instinctively, reaching out to the Omega’s scent like a drowning man grasping for air.
Wild berries. Fresh rain on pine. Morning dew on blooming jasmine.
Jungkook shivered. The Alpha’s scent was wrapping around him too strongly, too possessively, even while unconscious. It made his inner Omega stir in ways he hadn’t felt in years.
He quickly pulled his hand back.
“No,” he whispered firmly, both to the Alpha and to himself. “I’m only helping you so the forest doesn’t get angry at me for letting you die here.”
With surprising strength for his lithe frame, Jungkook lifted the heavy Alpha onto his back. He used a special technique his mother had taught him — channeling a small thread of forest magic into his muscles. Vines and roots gently rose to assist, helping shift the man’s weight.
It still took nearly an hour to reach his hidden pondok.
The small wooden hut was nestled deep between two ancient banyan trees, almost invisible unless you knew exactly where to look. Flowering vines covered its roof and walls, glowing faintly with soft golden light. Inside, it was simple but beautiful — a single large room with a stone hearth, a bed made of soft furs and woven blankets, shelves of dried herbs, jars of glowing sap, and bundles of wildflowers hanging from the ceiling.
Jungkook laid the Alpha down carefully on the fur-covered bed. The man groaned weakly, his brow furrowed in pain even in unconsciousness.
“Easy…” Jungkook murmured, his voice unconsciously gentle.
He worked quickly, stripping away the ruined cloak and tunic. The sight of the Alpha’s bare torso made his breath hitch for a moment. Powerful muscles, smooth golden skin now marred by deep gashes and bruises. Jungkook forced his gaze away from the tempting lines of his abdomen and focused on the wounds.
He cleaned each cut with water from the sacred stream, then applied a thick paste of crushed healing leaves and moonlight petals. The paste shimmered as it touched skin, slowly knitting the worst injuries together. While he worked, Jungkook kept stealing glances at the Alpha’s face.
Why did you come here? he thought. What are you running from?
As he bandaged the deep wound on the man’s thigh, the Alpha suddenly stirred. Golden eyes — heavy and unfocused — fluttered open.
Taehyung’s vision swam. The first thing he registered was warmth. Then the most intoxicating scent he had ever smelled in his life. His Alpha instincts roared to life, demanding he reach out and claim the source of that scent.
A soft face hovered above him. Wide, expressive eyes the color of deep forest at midnight. Plump lips. Long, slightly wavy black hair cascading over delicate shoulders. Pointed ears adorned with small wooden earrings. The stranger was ethereal. Wild. Beautiful in a way that felt untamed and ancient.
“You…” Taehyung rasped, voice hoarse. “Omega…”
Jungkook froze. His hands stilled on the Alpha’s chest.
“Don’t speak,” he said sharply, though his cheeks warmed at the intensity of those golden eyes. “You’re badly hurt. The forest almost killed you.”
Taehyung tried to sit up but hissed in pain. Jungkook immediately pressed a hand to his shoulder, pushing him back down. The touch sent electricity racing through both of them.
“Who… are you?” Taehyung asked, breathing heavily. His Alpha scent was growing stronger again, wrapping around Jungkook like invisible chains.
“My name is Jungkook,” the Omega answered quietly. “I live here. This forest is mine to protect.”
Taehyung stared at him, captivated. Even in his weakened state, he could feel the pull. This wasn’t just any Omega. This was someone bonded to the land itself.
“You saved me,” Taehyung whispered. A faint, pained smile tugged at his lips. “A prince… saved by a forest spirit.”
Jungkook’s eyes widened slightly at the word prince, but he masked it quickly.
“I didn’t save you because I wanted to,” he said, voice cold but his hands remained gentle as he adjusted the bandages. “The forest would have taken your body and tainted the ground. I only did what was necessary.”
Despite the harsh words, Jungkook brought a wooden cup to Taehyung’s lips, helping him drink a brew of healing herbs mixed with honey. The Alpha drank obediently, never taking his eyes off Jungkook’s face.
Their gazes locked.
For a moment, the world outside the small pondok disappeared. Only the crackling fire, the scent of two opposing worlds colliding, and the heavy tension between an Alpha who had lost everything and an Omega who had never had anything to lose.
“You smell like danger,” Jungkook whispered, almost to himself.
“And you smell like home,” Taehyung replied, voice low and rough, before exhaustion pulled him back under.
Jungkook sat back, heart hammering wildly in his chest. He pressed a hand over his racing heart, trying to calm the fluttering feeling spreading through his body.
This was bad.
This Alpha was bad.
And yet, as he watched the powerful prince sleep under his care, Jungkook couldn’t deny the strange warmth blooming in his chest — something dangerously close to longing.
Outside, the forest watched silently. The trees swayed gently, as if whispering secrets to one another.
The runaway prince had found his savior. But the real storm was only just beginning.
——
Taehyung woke to the sound of birdsong and the crackling of a fire. Sunlight filtered through the woven vines covering the windows of the small pondok, casting shifting patterns of gold and green across the wooden floor. For the first time in days, his body didn’t feel like it was being torn apart. The pain had dulled to a deep ache, and his Alpha strength was slowly returning.
He sat up slowly, muscles protesting. The fur blankets slipped down his bare chest, revealing fresh bandages wrapped tightly around his torso and thigh. The air smelled of herbs, honey, and that intoxicating wild berry scent that had haunted his dreams.
Jungkook was kneeling by the hearth, stirring a pot of stew with slow, graceful movements. His long black hair was tied back loosely with a vine, exposing the elegant line of his neck and the delicate curve of his shoulders. He wore a simple sleeveless tunic made of soft, earth-toned fabric that clung to his lithe body, and loose pants that ended mid-calf. His feet were bare, toes curled slightly against the warm wooden floor.
Taehyung stared, unable to look away.
This was no ordinary Omega. Jungkook moved like the forest itself — quiet, fluid, and completely untamed. There was a wild beauty in every motion, from the way his fingers gripped the wooden spoon to the subtle flare of his nostrils as he tested the scent of the food.
“You’re awake,” Jungkook said without turning around. His voice was calm, almost indifferent. “Good. The forest didn’t kill you after all.”
Taehyung swung his legs over the side of the bed, testing his weight. “How long was I out?”
“Two days.” Jungkook finally glanced over his shoulder. His dark eyes met Taehyung’s golden ones without hesitation or deference. “You were lucky. Most Alphas who enter this forest don’t survive the first night.”
Taehyung stood up, towering over the smaller man. Even injured, his presence filled the modest space. The rich scent of dark cherry wine and cedar rolled off him in waves, instinctively trying to dominate the room.
“I am Kim Taehyung,” he declared, voice deep and commanding, “Crown Prince and First Alpha of the Kingdom of Bangtan. You have my gratitude for saving my life, Omega.”
Jungkook raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. He turned back to the pot. “Names mean little here. Titles even less. You’re just another intruder bleeding on my floor.”
Taehyung’s jaw tightened. No one had ever spoken to him with such casual disrespect. Not even his father, the King.
“You will address me properly,” he said, Alpha timbre bleeding into his words. The command hung heavy in the air.
Jungkook set the spoon down and stood up slowly. Though he was shorter and slimmer, he carried himself with unshakable confidence. He stepped closer until they were only an arm’s length apart, tilting his head up to meet Taehyung’s gaze.
“This is my forest,” Jungkook said softly, but his voice carried steel. “My home. My rules. If you want to stay alive and hidden from whatever you’re running from, you will follow them. No commands. No demands. And definitely no royal arrogance in my house.”
Their scents clashed in the small space — Taehyung’s dark and commanding against Jungkook’s fresh, wild sweetness. The tension crackled like lightning before a storm.
Taehyung’s golden eyes narrowed. Part of him wanted to push, to remind this wild Omega exactly who he was dealing with. But another part — quieter, newer — was strangely fascinated. No Omega at court had ever dared challenge him like this. They all lowered their eyes, bared their necks, submitted.
Jungkook did none of those things.
The Omega turned away as if the matter was settled and ladled stew into two wooden bowls. “Eat. You need strength. Then we’ll talk about whether you can stay.”
Taehyung accepted the bowl, though his pride stung. The stew was simple — root vegetables, wild mushrooms, and tender meat — but it was warm and surprisingly flavorful. He ate in silence, watching Jungkook move around the pondok with practiced ease.
After finishing, Taehyung set the bowl down. “How does an Omega live alone in a place like this? Without protection?”
Jungkook let out a short, bitter laugh. “Protection? From what? The forest protects me. The trees, the rivers, the spirits — they are my family. Unlike your kind, who only know how to take and destroy.”
Taehyung’s expression darkened. “You know nothing about me.”
“I know enough,” Jungkook replied, wiping his hands on a cloth. “You smell like stone walls and blood. Like the hunters who murdered my parents and burned their bodies at the edge of this forest ten years ago.”
The words hit like a slap. Taehyung fell silent.
Jungkook continued, voice quieter now. “I was eight. They came looking for magical herbs to sell to your precious court. When my parents tried to stop them, they were slaughtered. I survived because the forest hid me.”
Taehyung felt something twist in his chest. Guilt. He had never thought about the consequences of royal hunts or the people who lived beyond the palace walls.
“I’m not them,” he said finally.
“No,” Jungkook agreed, eyes hard. “But you’re still an Alpha from that world. And that world has no place here.”
Taehyung stepped closer, drawn by the fire in Jungkook’s eyes. “Then why save me?”
Jungkook looked away, cheeks faintly pink. “Because letting you die would have tainted the land. And because… my instincts wouldn’t let me.”
The admission hung between them.
Taehyung’s Alpha instincts surged. He wanted to pull this fierce, beautiful Omega into his arms, to scent him properly, to make him understand that he was safe now. But he held back. Barely.
“What are your rules, then?” Taehyung asked, voice lower. “If I must follow them to stay.”
Jungkook crossed his arms. “First, you respect the forest. No taking more than you need. No wasting. Second, you help with chores. You’re not a guest to be served. Third…” He hesitated, then added firmly, “You keep your Alpha instincts under control. No commanding me. No… scenting without permission.”
Taehyung’s lips curved into a slow, dangerous smile. “And if I can’t control them?”
“Then the forest will finish what it started,” Jungkook said coolly. “And I won’t stop it this time.”
They stared at each other. The air grew thick with unspoken challenge and growing attraction. Taehyung could see the rapid flutter of Jungkook’s pulse at his neck. He could smell the subtle shift in the Omega’s scent — wild berries becoming slightly sweeter, warmer.
Jungkook noticed it too and stepped back, clearing his throat.
“Come,” he said, heading toward the door. “I’ll show you the boundaries. If you’re staying, you need to learn how not to anger the trees again.”
Taehyung followed him outside. The moment he stepped into the open air, the sheer beauty of the forest hit him fully. Sunlight broke through the canopy in golden shafts. Flowers bloomed in impossible colors, glowing softly. Birds with shimmering feathers flew overhead, and small spirits made of light and leaves danced between the branches.
Jungkook moved ahead, barefoot and confident, pointing out safe paths, dangerous plants, and sacred spots.
Taehyung watched him, mesmerized.
This world was nothing like the cold marble and politics of the palace. Here, everything felt alive. And at the center of it all was this wild Omega who refused to bow to him.
As they walked deeper into the trees, Taehyung realized with startling clarity that he was no longer sure whether he was hiding from the kingdom…
…or being drawn irreversibly into something far more dangerous.
Jungkook’s forest. And Jungkook himself.
——
The next morning arrived wrapped in soft golden light and the gentle chorus of the forest.
Taehyung stepped out of the pondok, stretching his tall frame. His wounds still throbbed, but the pain had lessened considerably thanks to Jungkook’s healing salves. He watched as the Omega moved gracefully around the clearing in front of the hut, collecting fresh water from a nearby spring.
Jungkook’s lithe body was illuminated by the morning sun — slender yet strong, with smooth skin kissed by years of living under open skies. The simple linen tunic he wore slipped slightly off one shoulder, revealing the delicate curve of his collarbone. Taehyung’s Alpha instincts stirred at the sight, but he forced them down.
“Stop staring and come here,” Jungkook called without looking back. “If you’re staying, you earn your place. No more lying in bed like a spoiled prince.”
Taehyung smirked, though a flicker of irritation crossed his face. “You enjoy ordering me around, don’t you?”
Jungkook finally turned, hands on his narrow hips. “I enjoy surviving. Now move.”
Their first lesson began with foraging.
Jungkook led him through a sun-dappled path lined with glowing ferns and flowers that seemed to lean toward the Omega as he passed. Taehyung followed closely, his broad shoulders brushing against low branches. Every few steps, Jungkook would stop and point at different plants.
“This one,” Jungkook said, kneeling gracefully beside a cluster of small white flowers with silver veins. “Moonlace. Good for fever and cleaning wounds. Smell it.”
Taehyung crouched beside him. Their shoulders touched. The contact sent a spark through both of them. Jungkook’s wild berry scent mixed with the fresh morning dew, making Taehyung’s mouth water.
He leaned closer than necessary, inhaling. “Sweet… but sharp.”
Jungkook’s cheeks warmed slightly. “That’s how the best medicines are. Gentle but strong.” He plucked several stems and handed them to Taehyung. “You carry them. And don’t crush them.”
They continued deeper into the woods. Jungkook moved like he belonged to the forest itself — silent, aware, completely in tune with every rustle and shift in the air. Taehyung, despite his royal training and physical power, felt clumsy. His boots snapped twigs loudly. His tall frame got caught in vines.
“Quiet,” Jungkook whispered. “The forest listens. Walk like the wind, not like a charging bull.”
Taehyung grunted but tried to adjust his steps. “In the palace, strength is loud. Power is announced.”
“Here, power is invisible,” Jungkook replied softly. “The strongest things are the ones you don’t notice until it’s too late.”
As they gathered more herbs and edible roots, Taehyung found himself increasingly captivated. Jungkook’s hands were skilled and gentle — long fingers carefully selecting only what was needed, never taking too much. He spoke to the plants sometimes, murmuring soft thanks under his breath. The forest seemed to respond, blooming brighter wherever he touched.
By midday, they had a full basket. Jungkook led them to a small clearing beside a crystal stream.
“Next lesson,” he said, setting the basket down. “Hunting. But we don’t kill for sport. Only for necessity.”
Taehyung’s golden eyes lit up. This, at least, he understood. “I’m good with a bow.”
Jungkook gave him a small, almost teasing smile. “We won’t use bows today.”
He taught Taehyung how to set clever traps made from vines, branches, and natural fibers. How to read animal tracks. How to mask his scent by rubbing certain leaves on his skin. Taehyung struggled at first, his large hands too rough for the delicate work. When one trap collapsed on his fingers, he cursed loudly.
Jungkook laughed — a light, melodic sound that surprised them both.
“You’re terrible at this,” Jungkook said, still chuckling as he knelt to help fix the trap. His fingers brushed against Taehyung’s. The touch lingered a second longer than necessary.
Taehyung caught Jungkook’s wrist gently. “Show me again.”
Their eyes met. The air between them thickened. Taehyung could hear Jungkook’s heartbeat quicken, smell the subtle sweetening of his Omega scent. For a moment, neither moved.
Then Jungkook pulled away, clearing his throat. “Pay attention.”
They managed to catch two fat rabbits by late afternoon. As they returned to the pondok, Taehyung carried the heavier basket and the game. His body ached from the unfamiliar movements, but there was a strange satisfaction in the simple work.
Back at the hut, Jungkook prepared the rabbits with practiced efficiency while Taehyung stoked the fire. The Omega’s hands were stained with blood, yet he handled the task with quiet respect, whispering a small prayer of thanks to the forest.
After they ate, Jungkook noticed Taehyung wincing as he reached for more water.
“Your wounds,” Jungkook said. “They need fresh dressing. Sit.”
Taehyung obeyed, sitting on the edge of the fur bed. He removed his tunic without hesitation, revealing his broad, muscled chest and the bandages wrapped around his torso.
Jungkook swallowed hard at the sight. The Alpha’s body was powerful — defined muscles, golden skin, and the faint scent of dark cherry wine growing stronger with proximity. He forced himself to focus.
He sat close, knees brushing Taehyung’s thigh, and began unwrapping the old bandages. The first touch of his cool fingers against Taehyung’s warm skin made both of them tense.
“Does it hurt?” Jungkook asked softly, voice barely above a whisper.
“Less when you touch it,” Taehyung answered honestly, golden eyes fixed on Jungkook’s face.
Jungkook’s hands trembled slightly as he cleaned the wounds with a fresh herbal solution. The gashes were healing well, but one particularly deep cut on Taehyung’s side still looked angry. Jungkook leaned in closer to apply the new salve, his breath ghosting over Taehyung’s skin.
Taehyung’s hand moved almost instinctively, resting lightly on Jungkook’s waist to steady him. The touch was warm and possessive, even through the thin fabric of Jungkook’s tunic.
“Alpha…” Jungkook warned, but there was no real force behind it.
“I’m not commanding,” Taehyung murmured, voice low and rough. “I’m just… grateful.”
Their faces were inches apart. Taehyung could see the delicate flutter of Jungkook’s long lashes, the soft pink of his lips, the way his scent bloomed sweeter under the Alpha’s attention. Jungkook’s inner Omega was responding despite his resistance — a faint, needy whine almost escaping his throat.
Jungkook finished applying the salve and wrapped fresh bandages with slightly shaky hands. When he was done, he didn’t pull away immediately. His palms rested flat against Taehyung’s bandaged chest, feeling the strong, steady heartbeat beneath.
“You’re learning fast,” Jungkook said quietly. “For a spoiled prince.”
Taehyung’s lips curved into a genuine smile — the first real one Jungkook had seen. It transformed his sharp, regal features into something softer, more dangerous in its beauty.
“And you’re a good teacher,” Taehyung replied. His thumb brushed lightly over Jungkook’s waist. “Stronger than you look, wild Omega.”
The moment stretched. Tension coiled tight between them. Taehyung’s Alpha pheromones wrapped around Jungkook like velvet chains, while Jungkook’s sweet wild scent tempted the prince to pull him closer.
Jungkook finally stood up, stepping back. His cheeks were flushed.
“Tomorrow we learn how to fish and respect the river spirits,” he said, trying to sound firm. “Rest now.”
Taehyung lay back on the bed, watching as Jungkook busied himself cleaning up. The firelight danced across the Omega’s figure, highlighting every graceful movement.
As sleep slowly claimed him, Taehyung realized something profound.
For the first time in his life, he wasn’t thinking about thrones, alliances, or escaping duty.
He was thinking about soft wild eyes, gentle but firm hands, and the quiet strength of an Omega who refused to bow — yet made him want to protect him with every fiber of his being.
Outside, the forest whispered approvingly, its ancient magic shifting subtly around the two souls slowly being drawn together. The lessons had only just begun.
——
The forest breathed differently at twilight. Taehyung noticed it as he followed Jungkook along a narrow path that seemed to appear only when the Omega stepped forward. The air grew sweeter, heavier with magic, as if the trees themselves were opening secret doors for them. After four days of learning survival — foraging, trapping, and enduring Jungkook’s sharp-tongued instructions — the wild Omega had finally decided to show him something more.
“You’ve earned this much,” Jungkook said quietly, his bare feet silent on the mossy ground. “But only because you stopped acting like the forest is your servant.”
Taehyung walked behind him, his tall, broad frame moving with more care than before. His wounds were almost healed, leaving only faint scars across his golden skin. The simple dark tunic Jungkook had given him stretched across his powerful chest and shoulders, making him look less like a fallen prince and more like a man shaped by the wild.
“I’m trying,” Taehyung replied, voice low. “This place… it’s nothing like the palace gardens. Everything here feels alive.”
Jungkook glanced over his shoulder. For the first time, his dark eyes held a trace of softness instead of guarded suspicion. “Because it is alive.”
They walked for nearly an hour as the sun dipped lower, painting the canopy in hues of amber and rose. The path opened suddenly into a breathtaking hidden valley. At its center lay a large, perfectly still lake. The water shimmered with an inner light — soft blues, silvers, and violets swirling beneath the surface like liquid stars.
“This is Lumina Lake,” Jungkook whispered, almost reverently. “The heart of the forest.”
Taehyung stopped at the water’s edge, stunned. Bioluminescent fish moved in graceful patterns below, their bodies leaving trails of glowing light. Around the lake, flowers with crystal petals bloomed in impossible colors, swaying gently even without wind. Small orbs of light — forest spirits no bigger than his palm — danced between the trees, leaving sparkling dust in their wake.
“It’s… beautiful,” Taehyung breathed. His golden eyes reflected the magical glow. “I’ve never seen anything like this in all my life.”
Jungkook sat on a smooth rock by the shore, tucking his long hair behind one pointed ear. “Most outsiders never do. The forest only reveals its true face to those it might accept.”
Taehyung sat beside him, close enough that their thighs nearly touched. “And does it accept me yet?”
Jungkook let out a soft huff, almost a laugh. “It hasn’t killed you again. That’s something.”
A comfortable silence settled between them as they watched the lake. One of the small spirits — a tiny creature made of leaves and moonlight — floated curiously toward Taehyung. It hovered near his face, tilting its head as if studying him. Taehyung remained still, letting it inspect him.
“It likes your scent,” Jungkook said quietly. “Dark cherry and cedar. Strong, but not entirely cruel.”
Taehyung turned to look at him. The fading sunlight caught Jungkook’s profile perfectly — the delicate slope of his nose, the full curve of his lips, and those large, expressive eyes that held centuries of forest wisdom despite his young appearance.
“Tell me about your life here,” Taehyung asked gently. “Truly.”
Jungkook was quiet for a long moment. Then he began to speak.
“I was born in this forest. My parents were guardians before me. They taught me how to listen to the trees, how to dance with the wind, how to heal with the earth’s blood.” His voice grew softer. “After they were killed… I was alone. The forest became my parent, my friend, my everything. The spirits raised me. The trees sang me to sleep.”
Taehyung’s chest tightened. He reached out slowly and placed his large hand over Jungkook’s smaller one on the rock. Jungkook didn’t pull away.
“I’m sorry,” Taehyung said, voice rough with sincerity. “For what my people did to yours.”
Jungkook looked at him, searching his face. “You really mean that, don’t you?”
“I do.” Taehyung’s thumb brushed lightly over Jungkook’s knuckles. “In the palace, I was raised to believe the forest was dangerous. A place of monsters and curses. They never told us it was home to someone like you.”
Jungkook’s scent sweetened slightly at the gentle touch. His inner Omega preened at the Alpha’s careful attention, even as his mind fought it.
“Now it’s your turn,” Jungkook said, changing the subject. “Tell me why a prince ran into the one place his kingdom fears most.”
Taehyung stared at the glowing lake, his jaw tightening.
“I was supposed to marry Princess Mira of Eldoria. A political union to prevent war. She’s an Omega, beautiful on the outside, but her scent carries ambition and cruelty. I could smell the lies on her from across the throne room.” He let out a bitter laugh. “My father said it was my duty. That an Alpha prince exists only to serve the kingdom — with his bite, his body, his future children.”
Jungkook listened intently, his hand still under Taehyung’s.
“I refused,” Taehyung continued. “I told him I would rather die free than live chained to a throne and a loveless bond. He disowned me that night. So I ran. Into the only place I knew they wouldn’t follow easily.”
He turned to face Jungkook fully. “And then I found you.”
The air between them grew thick. The small spirits seemed to sense the tension, dancing faster around them in sparkling circles. One of the crystal flowers near the shore began to sing — a soft, haunting melody like distant bells and wind chimes.
Jungkook’s cheeks flushed. “You speak as if I’m some kind of reward.”
“You’re more than that,” Taehyung murmured, voice dropping into that low Alpha register that made Jungkook’s stomach flutter. “You’re the first person who has ever looked at me and seen Taehyung instead of the Crown Prince.”
Jungkook looked down at their joined hands. Slowly, almost hesitantly, he turned his palm up and laced their fingers together. The simple gesture felt heavier than any royal decree.
“I’ve never let anyone this close,” Jungkook admitted softly. “The forest is my only bond. But you… you make my Omega feel things I don’t understand.”
Taehyung’s golden eyes darkened with desire. He lifted their joined hands and pressed a slow, reverent kiss to Jungkook’s knuckles. The Omega shivered visibly.
“I won’t force anything,” Taehyung promised, though his scent was growing darker, richer, wrapping around Jungkook like a warm cloak. “But I want to know you, Jungkook. All of you. Not as a prince claiming an Omega, but as a man who is falling for the guardian of the wild.”
Jungkook’s breath hitched. He leaned in slightly, drawn by the powerful pull of Taehyung’s presence. Their faces were close enough that he could feel the Alpha’s warm breath against his lips.
For a moment, it seemed inevitable.
Then a group of glowing fish leaped from the lake in a spectacular arc, splashing sparkling water and breaking the spell. Jungkook pulled back with a shy laugh, the sound light and beautiful.
“Come,” he said, standing up and tugging Taehyung’s hand. “There’s more I want to show you.”
They walked along the lake’s edge as night fully settled. Jungkook led him to a grove of ancient trees where flowers with velvet petals sang in harmony when touched. He showed Taehyung how to coax the blossoms into melody, their voices blending into an ethereal song that spoke of old magic and forgotten promises.
Taehyung watched in wonder as Jungkook danced lightly between the singing flowers, his lithe body moving with natural grace. The Omega’s hair flowed behind him like black silk, and his laughter mixed with the floral music.
In that moment, Taehyung felt something shift deep inside him.
This was freedom.
Not the empty luxury of the palace, but this — raw, magical, and shared with someone who challenged him, healed him, and made his Alpha soul ache with want.
As they returned to the pondok under a sky full of stars, Jungkook’s hand remained in his. The Omega’s steps were lighter, his guarded walls cracking just a little more.
“You’re not so terrible for a spoiled Alpha,” Jungkook teased quietly as they reached the door.
Taehyung smiled, pulling him closer by the waist. “And you’re far too tempting for a wild forest spirit.”
Jungkook’s cheeks burned, but he didn’t step away. Instead, he allowed Taehyung to hold him for a moment longer, their scents mingling sweetly in the night air.
Inside the pondok, the fire crackled warmly as they prepared for sleep. Taehyung lay on the large fur bed while Jungkook curled up on the other side, closer than he had been on previous nights.
As sleep claimed them, both felt it — the slow, inevitable pull of fate weaving their souls together in the heart of the enchanted forest.
The secrets of the woods had begun to reveal themselves. And so had the feelings neither of them could deny much longer.
——
The air inside the pondok felt heavier than usual that evening. It had been nine days since Taehyung first woke in Jungkook’s care. Nine days of shared meals, quiet conversations by the fire, and lingering touches that neither of them dared name. The forest had grown quieter around them, as if holding its breath, watching the slow dance between the runaway Alpha prince and its beloved guardian.
Jungkook had been restless since morning.
He moved around the clearing with less grace than usual, his steps slightly unsteady. A faint sheen of sweat glistened on his collarbones despite the cool breeze. Taehyung noticed immediately. The Omega’s wild berry scent had deepened overnight — sweeter, richer, almost intoxicating. It wrapped around Taehyung’s senses like warm honey and crushed velvet.
“Are you alright?” Taehyung asked as they prepared dinner. He was chopping wild roots, his large hands careful with the knife Jungkook had lent him.
Jungkook nodded too quickly. “Just tired. The forest spirits were active last night.”
But Taehyung’s Alpha instincts were screaming. Something was wrong. Or rather — something was beginning.
That night, after they ate in relative silence, Jungkook excused himself early. He curled up on his side of the large fur bed, back turned to Taehyung. The fire crackled softly, casting dancing shadows across the wooden walls covered in glowing vines.
Taehyung tried to sleep. He really did.
But the scent kept growing stronger.
It started as a subtle wave, then built into a storm. Jungkook’s body temperature rose rapidly. Soft, broken whimpers escaped his lips every few minutes. His thighs pressed together instinctively as slick began to dampen the thin fabric of his sleeping pants.
Taehyung sat up sharply, golden eyes glowing in the dim light.
“Jungkook,” he called, voice rough with concern and something darker. “Talk to me.”
Jungkook curled into himself tighter, trembling. “Don’t… come closer.”
But it was too late. The heat had arrived — sudden and violent, triggered by the constant proximity of a strong, unclaimed Alpha. Jungkook had never experienced one this intense before. Living alone in the forest, his cycles had always been mild and manageable. This was different. This was consuming.
A broken whine tore from his throat as another wave crashed through him.
Taehyung moved without thinking. He crossed the small space and knelt beside the bed, reaching out to touch Jungkook’s forehead. The Omega’s skin was burning.
“Fuck,” Taehyung cursed under his breath. “You’re in heat.”
Jungkook’s eyes fluttered open, glassy and desperate. Tears clung to his long lashes. “Alpha… it hurts. Make it stop.”
The plea hit Taehyung like a physical blow. His own body reacted instantly — rut threatening at the edge of his control. His scent exploded outward, dark cherry wine and smoldering cedar flooding the pondok, wrapping around Jungkook like a possessive claim.
Taehyung clenched his jaw so hard it ached. He fought every instinct screaming at him to mount, to bite, to claim what was so beautifully presented before him.
“I’m here,” he said instead, voice strained but gentle. “I won’t take you. Not like this. Not when you’re not fully yourself.”
Jungkook sobbed softly, reaching for him with shaky hands. “Please… I need you closer. Your scent… it helps.”
Taehyung hesitated only a second before climbing onto the bed. He positioned himself behind Jungkook, pulling the smaller body against his chest. The moment their bodies pressed together, Jungkook let out a relieved moan. Taehyung’s strong arms wrapped around his waist, one hand splaying possessively over the Omega’s feverish stomach.
“Shhh,” Taehyung murmured against his ear, lips brushing the sensitive shell. “I’ve got you.”
He began scenting Jungkook properly for the first time — slow, deliberate drags of his nose along the Omega’s neck, over his scent gland. Each pass released more of Taehyung’s rich Alpha pheromones, soothing the raging heat. Jungkook arched back into him, seeking more contact.
Taehyung’s hand slipped under Jungkook’s tunic, resting flat against bare skin. The touch was burning hot. He rubbed slow circles over Jungkook’s abdomen, easing the cramps while fighting the urge to go lower.
“You’re so strong,” Taehyung whispered, voice husky. “Enduring this alone for years… Never again, Jungkook. Never again.”
Jungkook whimpered, grinding back against Taehyung’s body helplessly. He could feel the Alpha’s hardness pressing against his lower back, thick and insistent, but Taehyung refused to act on it. Instead, he held Jungkook tighter, one arm banded across his chest while the other continued its gentle massage.
The pondok filled with their mingled scents — wild berries dripping with sweetness and dark cherry wine turning molten. Outside, the forest responded. Glowing flowers bloomed brighter around the hut. Soft blue lights from forest spirits floated gently past the windows, as if standing guard.
Taehyung pressed open-mouthed kisses along Jungkook’s neck and shoulder, careful not to use teeth. Each kiss drew desperate, needy sounds from the Omega. Jungkook’s hand reached back, gripping Taehyung’s thigh hard enough to leave marks.
“Alpha… Taehyung…” he gasped. “I feel empty.”
Taehyung growled low in his throat, the sound vibrating through both of them. His control was fraying at the edges.
“I know, baby,” he rasped, the endearment slipping out naturally. “But not tonight. I won’t claim you when your heat is forcing you. When I take you, I want you to choose it with clear eyes.”
Instead, Taehyung slid his hand lower, slipping beneath the waistband of Jungkook’s pants. He wrapped his large hand around Jungkook’s leaking cock, stroking him with slow, firm movements while pressing his own hardness against Jungkook’s ass without entering.
Jungkook cried out in relief, hips jerking into the touch. Slick coated his thighs, soaking through the fabric. Taehyung’s fingers grew slippery as he worked him expertly — not too fast, not too slow — perfectly attuned to every whimper and shudder.
“That’s it,” Taehyung praised against his ear. “Let go for me. I’ll take care of you.”
The intimacy was overwhelming. Jungkook’s body trembled violently as pleasure built higher and higher. Taehyung continued scenting him relentlessly, licking over his scent gland, marking him with his smell without breaking skin.
When Jungkook finally came, it was with a broken sob of Taehyung’s name. His body clenched and released, slick gushing as waves of ecstasy crashed through him. Taehyung followed moments later, grinding against Jungkook’s ass and spilling inside his own pants with a deep, guttural groan.
They stayed locked together, breathing hard.
Taehyung gently cleaned them both with a soft cloth, then pulled Jungkook flush against his chest again. The Omega was still shaking, but the worst of the heat had been temporarily eased.
“You didn’t have to hold back,” Jungkook whispered, voice hoarse and vulnerable. “Most Alphas wouldn’t.”
Taehyung pressed a tender kiss to the back of his neck. “I’m not most Alphas. You’re not a convenience, Jungkook. You’re not something to be used during heat. You’re…” He paused, searching for words. “You’re becoming everything.”
Jungkook turned in his arms, burying his face in Taehyung’s broad chest. Tears slipped down his cheeks — not from pain, but from the overwhelming safety he felt.
“No one has ever taken care of me like this,” he admitted softly. “I’ve always faced my heats alone… with only the forest as witness.”
Taehyung’s arms tightened around him protectively. “That ends now. As long as I’m here, you won’t suffer alone again.”
The heat flared again an hour later, and Taehyung helped him through it once more — hands, scent, whispered praises, and comforting weight. No penetration. Only raw, intimate care that spoke louder than any claiming bite could.
By the time dawn approached, Jungkook lay exhausted but calm in Taehyung’s embrace. His fingers traced lazy patterns on the Alpha’s chest, right over his steady heartbeat.
“You’re dangerous,” Jungkook murmured sleepily. “You make me want things I’ve never wanted before.”
Taehyung smiled into his hair, inhaling the sweet, satisfied scent. “Good. Because I’m not going anywhere, wild Omega. Not from this forest. Not from you.”
Outside, the forest bloomed in celebration. Vines curled lovingly around the pondok. A soft, ancient melody carried on the wind — the trees singing their approval of the bond slowly forming between their guardian and the Alpha who chose to stay.
The first heat had passed. But it had irrevocably changed everything between them.
——
The days following Jungkook’s heat passed in a gentle haze of newfound closeness.
The forest seemed to sense the shift between them. Flowers bloomed more vibrantly around the pondok, and the small spirits lingered longer, dancing in playful spirals whenever Taehyung and Jungkook walked side by side. The air itself felt warmer, sweeter, as if the ancient woods were weaving their own quiet magic around the two souls.
Taehyung had become fiercely protective in the aftermath. He rarely let Jungkook out of his sight for long, his tall frame always nearby — carrying heavier baskets, chopping wood with powerful swings of the axe, or simply watching over the Omega with golden eyes that burned with quiet intensity.
Jungkook pretended to be annoyed by it, but the truth showed in the way he leaned into Taehyung’s presence, the way his scent sweetened whenever the Alpha drew close.
One afternoon, as golden sunlight filtered through the canopy, they sat together on the soft moss by the small glowing stream near the pondok. Jungkook was weaving a new basket from flexible vines while Taehyung sharpened a hunting knife with steady strokes.
“You’ve been hovering,” Jungkook said without looking up, though the corners of his lips twitched. “I’m not made of glass, Alpha.”
Taehyung set the knife down and shifted closer, his broad shoulder brushing Jungkook’s. “After what I saw during your heat… I can’t help it. You were in so much pain. Alone for years.” His voice dropped, rough with emotion. “I hate the thought of you suffering like that again.”
Jungkook’s fingers stilled on the vines. He stared at the water for a long moment, the reflective surface dancing with silver light.
“I was never completely alone,” he said softly. “The forest was always here. The trees sang to me during my heats. The spirits brought me cooling herbs.” He paused, then added in a quieter voice, “But it wasn’t the same. Not like having someone hold me. Someone who cares.”
Taehyung reached out, gently tucking a stray lock of black hair behind Jungkook’s pointed ear. The touch lingered, his thumb tracing the delicate shell.
“Tell me more,” Taehyung murmured. “About your parents. About how you survived after they were gone.”
Jungkook’s breath hitched. He rarely spoke of this, even to the forest. But something in Taehyung’s steady gaze — patient, protective, genuinely wanting to understand — made the walls around his heart crack further.
“They were the last true guardians,” Jungkook began, voice trembling slightly. “My mother could make flowers bloom with a touch. My father could speak to the river spirits and calm storms. They taught me everything. How to listen. How to give back to the land.”
His dark eyes grew distant, lost in memory.
“I was eight when the royal hunters came. They wanted rare moonlace petals and star sap — ingredients for powerful potions the court alchemists demanded. My parents refused to let them take more than the forest could give. They argued… and then the swords came out.”
Jungkook’s hands tightened around the half-woven basket until his knuckles turned white.
“I hid inside a hollow tree. The forest wrapped roots and vines around me, muffling my cries. I watched everything. The way they dragged my mother’s body… the way my father fought until the end. They burned what remained so the magic wouldn’t return to the soil.”
A single tear slipped down Jungkook’s cheek. He didn’t wipe it away.
“After that, I stopped believing anyone from the outside world could be good. Especially Alphas who smelled like stone and steel and greed. Until you.”
Taehyung felt his chest ache with a pain sharper than any wound the forest had given him. He pulled Jungkook into his arms without hesitation, wrapping his strong body around the smaller Omega. Jungkook buried his face in Taehyung’s neck, inhaling the comforting scent of dark cherry wine and cedar that now felt like safety.
“I’m so sorry,” Taehyung whispered into his hair, voice thick. “I wish I could change what my kingdom did to you. To your family.”
Jungkook clung to him tighter, slender fingers gripping the fabric of Taehyung’s tunic. “You’re already changing it. By staying. By choosing this instead of your throne.”
They stayed like that for a long time, wrapped in each other as the stream sang softly beside them. Taehyung’s large hand rubbed slow, soothing circles on Jungkook’s back, while the Omega’s breathing gradually steadied.
When Jungkook finally pulled back, his eyes were red-rimmed but clearer. Vulnerable in a way that made Taehyung’s Alpha instincts roar with the need to protect.
“You make me feel weak,” Jungkook admitted with a shy, watery smile. “I’ve survived alone for so long. But when you hold me… I realize how tired I’ve been.”
“You’re not weak,” Taehyung said firmly, cupping Jungkook’s face with both hands. His thumbs brushed away the lingering tears. “You’re the strongest person I’ve ever known. You protected this entire forest by yourself. You saved me when you had every reason to let me die.”
Jungkook leaned into the touch, eyes fluttering half-closed.
Taehyung continued, voice low and full of conviction. “I promise you this, Jungkook. As long as I breathe, I will never abandon you. I will never let anyone hurt you the way they hurt your parents. Whether I’m a prince or just a man living in the wild — I choose you. I will protect you with everything I am.”
The words settled deep between them, heavy with meaning. An Alpha’s promise was no light thing, especially one as powerful as Taehyung.
Jungkook’s scent bloomed beautifully in response — wild berries ripened under summer sun, sweet and trusting. His inner Omega sang with joy at the declaration.
“Taehyung…” he whispered, voice barely audible.
Their foreheads pressed together. The world narrowed to just the two of them — the warmth of skin, the mingling of breaths, the magnetic pull that had been building since the moment Jungkook found the dying prince in the woods.
Taehyung’s golden eyes darkened with desire and something far deeper. “May I kiss you?”
Jungkook answered by closing the distance himself.
Their lips met softly at first — tentative, exploring. Jungkook’s mouth was plush and warm, tasting faintly of wild honey and morning dew. Taehyung groaned quietly at the contact, one hand sliding to cradle the back of Jungkook’s head while the other wrapped around his slim waist, pulling him closer.
The kiss deepened slowly. Taehyung tilted his head, licking along the seam of Jungkook’s lips until the Omega parted them with a soft gasp. Their tongues met in a gentle dance that quickly grew heated. Jungkook whimpered into the kiss, fingers threading through Taehyung’s dark hair, tugging lightly.
It was their first real kiss — raw, emotional, and full of everything they hadn’t yet said aloud. Months of tension, fear, attraction, and growing affection poured into every press of lips and shared breath.
When they finally broke apart, both were breathing heavily. Jungkook’s lips were swollen and glistening, his cheeks flushed a lovely pink. Taehyung rested his forehead against Jungkook’s again, eyes closed in bliss.
“I’ve wanted to do that for so long,” Taehyung confessed, voice husky.
Jungkook let out a shy laugh, pressing another quick kiss to the corner of Taehyung’s mouth. “I thought you were going to drive me crazy with all that staring and careful distance.”
Taehyung chuckled, the sound deep and warm. He pulled Jungkook fully into his lap, strong arms encircling him possessively. The Omega settled comfortably against the Alpha’s broad chest, feeling safer than he ever had in his life.
As the sun began to set, painting the forest in hues of rose and gold, they stayed wrapped in each other. Taehyung occasionally pressed soft kisses to Jungkook’s temple, his cheek, the sensitive spot beneath his ear — each one a silent vow.
“I meant every word,” Taehyung murmured later, as they lay together on a bed of soft moss watching the stars emerge. “I’m not going back to that life. Not without you. And even then… I don’t think I want the crown anymore. Not if it means losing this.”
Jungkook traced patterns on Taehyung’s chest, right above his heart. “The forest might accept you fully one day. If you truly choose to stay.”
“I already have,” Taehyung said without hesitation. “I choose you, Jungkook. Every day. Every lifetime.”
The Omega’s heart swelled. He lifted his head and kissed Taehyung again — slower this time, deeper, pouring all his hidden fears and newfound hope into it. Taehyung responded with equal passion, his hands roaming Jungkook’s back with restrained hunger.
The bond between them had truly begun to form.
No longer just a runaway prince and a lonely guardian.
But two hearts finding home in the heart of the forbidden forest.
As night fully embraced the woods, the trees whispered ancient blessings above them. The spirits glowed brighter, celebrating the fragile but beautiful connection taking root.
Yet in the far distance, beyond the protective borders of the forest, the kingdom stirred. Messengers and scouts searched relentlessly for their missing prince.
The peace they had found was precious. But it was also temporary.
——
The forest had never felt so alive.
In the weeks following their first kiss, something profound had blossomed between Taehyung and Jungkook. The guarded walls the Omega had built over years of solitude were crumbling, replaced by stolen glances, lingering touches, and soft laughter that echoed through the trees. Taehyung, once burdened by the weight of a crown and duty, found himself smiling more freely than he ever had in the cold halls of Bangtan Palace.
One bright morning, Jungkook woke Taehyung with gentle fingers tracing patterns on his chest.
“Come with me today,” Jungkook whispered, his dark eyes sparkling with mischief and affection. “I want to show you my favorite place. No chores. No lessons. Just us.”
Taehyung caught Jungkook’s hand and pressed a kiss to his palm. “Anywhere with you is my favorite place.”
They left the pondok hand in hand, fingers intertwined as if it were the most natural thing in the world. Jungkook led them deeper into the forest than they had gone before, following a hidden trail marked by glowing white stones and flowers that bloomed only in their presence. The air grew fresher, carrying the distant sound of rushing water.
After nearly two hours of walking, the trees parted to reveal a breathtaking sight.
A magnificent waterfall cascaded down layered rocks covered in emerald moss and flowering vines. The water sparkled like liquid diamonds under the sunlight, plunging into a wide, crystal-clear pool below. Rainbow mist danced in the air where light met water. Around the pool, wild lilies and moonlace bloomed in abundance, their petals shimmering with natural magic.
Jungkook’s face lit up with pure joy. “This is Silverfall. My sanctuary.”
Taehyung stood speechless for a moment, taking in the beauty. “It’s incredible,” he murmured, pulling Jungkook closer by the waist. “Almost as beautiful as you.”
Jungkook blushed, playfully pushing at Taehyung’s chest. “Flattery won’t get you everywhere, Prince.”
But Taehyung only grinned, golden eyes warm with adoration. “It already has.”
They spent the afternoon in pure bliss. Jungkook stripped down to simple undergarments without shame, his lithe, toned body glowing under the dappled sunlight. Taehyung followed, revealing his powerful, broad frame — muscles honed by both royal training and recent weeks of forest labor. Scars from his arrival had faded into faint marks that Jungkook often traced with gentle fingers.
They swam together in the cool pool. Jungkook moved through the water like a spirit, graceful and free, while Taehyung chased him with playful splashes. Laughter rang out as they played, water glistening on their skin. At one point, Taehyung caught Jungkook around the waist, lifting him effortlessly out of the water. Jungkook wrapped his legs around the Alpha’s hips, arms looping around his neck.
Their foreheads pressed together, breaths mingling.
“I never imagined happiness like this,” Jungkook confessed softly, water dripping from his long lashes. “I thought the forest was enough. But you… you make everything brighter.”
Taehyung’s grip tightened, one hand supporting Jungkook’s back. “You saved me in more ways than one. I ran from a kingdom that wanted to own me. Here, with you, I finally feel free.”
They kissed under the falling water — slow, deep, and full of emotion. The roar of the waterfall drowned out the world, leaving only the two of them. Taehyung’s lips moved tenderly against Jungkook’s, tasting the sweetness of wild berries and pure joy. When they pulled apart, both were smiling like fools in love.
As the sun began to dip lower, they dried off on sun-warmed rocks. Jungkook rested his head on Taehyung’s bare chest, listening to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat while the Alpha played with his damp hair.
That night, after returning to the pondok and sharing a simple meal of roasted roots and fresh berries, Jungkook took Taehyung’s hand again.
“The moon is full tonight,” he said. “Come dance with me.”
They walked to a wide clearing bathed in silvery moonlight. Ancient trees formed a natural circle around the space, their leaves glowing softly. Small forest spirits floated everywhere, casting gentle golden and blue lights like living lanterns.
Jungkook stepped into the center first. He raised his arms gracefully, eyes closed, and began to move.
His dance was mesmerizing — fluid, natural, and deeply beautiful. Every sway of his hips, every arch of his back, every spin told stories of the forest: the flow of rivers, the whisper of wind, the quiet strength of ancient roots. His bare feet barely touched the grass as he danced, long hair flowing like black silk behind him.
Taehyung watched, completely enchanted. His heart swelled with overwhelming love for this wild, ethereal Omega who had captured him so completely.
When Jungkook extended a hand toward him, Taehyung didn’t hesitate. He joined the dance, moving with less grace but full of passion. Jungkook laughed brightly as Taehyung spun him, then pulled him close. Their bodies pressed together, moving in sync under the moonlight.
“You’re terrible at this,” Jungkook teased, though his eyes shone with affection.
“Then teach me,” Taehyung replied, voice low and husky. He dipped Jungkook dramatically, earning another burst of laughter that turned into a soft gasp when Taehyung kissed his exposed neck.
They danced for what felt like hours. The forest spirits swirled around them in celebration, creating shimmering patterns in the air. Flowers bloomed at their feet with every step. The night itself seemed to bless their union.
Eventually, they slowed. Taehyung held Jungkook tightly in his arms, swaying gently. The Omega rested his head on the Alpha’s shoulder, breathing in his comforting scent.
“I love you,” Jungkook whispered suddenly, so quietly it almost got lost in the night breeze.
Taehyung froze. He pulled back just enough to look into Jungkook’s eyes, searching for any doubt. There was none — only pure, vulnerable truth.
“I love you too,” Taehyung said, voice thick with emotion. “With everything I am. Not as a prince. Not as an Alpha. Just as Taehyung… who found his home in you.”
Tears glistened in Jungkook’s eyes. He rose on his toes and kissed Taehyung fiercely, pouring all his love into it. Taehyung responded with equal passion, hands roaming Jungkook’s back, holding him as if he might disappear.
When they broke apart, both were breathing heavily, hearts racing in perfect harmony.
“I’m yours,” Jungkook said, pressing their foreheads together. “If you’ll have this wild, broken Omega who has nothing but the forest to offer.”
Taehyung cupped his face tenderly. “You are everything. I left a kingdom for you. I would leave a thousand more. You are my home, Jungkook. My heart. My forever.”
They sank down together onto the soft grass, surrounded by glowing flowers and dancing lights. Taehyung lay on his back, pulling Jungkook on top of him. The Omega nestled against his chest, legs tangled together.
They talked for hours under the stars — about dreams, fears, and hopes for the future. Taehyung spoke of wanting to build a life here, perhaps one day helping Jungkook protect the forest from outsiders. Jungkook shared his secret wish to one day hear the trees call Taehyung family.
As midnight approached, their touches grew more heated but remained sweet. Taehyung’s hands explored Jungkook’s body with reverence, mapping every curve and sensitive spot. Jungkook shivered under the gentle caresses, whispering Taehyung’s name like a prayer.
No claiming happened that night. This was not about heat or instinct. This was love — pure, deep, and beautiful.
When exhaustion finally claimed them, they fell asleep wrapped in each other’s arms, the forest singing a lullaby above them.
For the first time in his life, Jungkook felt truly cherished.
For the first time in his life, Taehyung felt truly free.
Love had taken root among the wild blooms, strong and unbreakable.
Yet far beyond the forest’s protective borders, dark clouds were gathering. Scouts had picked up traces of the missing prince. The kingdom was closing in.
But in this moment, under the watchful eyes of the ancient trees, nothing else mattered. Only the two hearts beating as one in the heart of the enchanted woods.
——
The forest held its breath the night Taehyung claimed Jungkook.
It had been two days since their dance under the full moon, two days of charged glances and touches that lingered longer than necessary. The love they had confessed hung between them like ripe fruit — sweet, heavy, and ready to be taken. Tonight, the air crackled with inevitability.
They had spent the evening by Silverfall again, the waterfall’s roar providing a constant, soothing backdrop. After swimming and sharing sweet wild fruits, they lay together on a thick bed of moss and glowing petals. The moonlight painted Jungkook’s skin in silver, making him look almost unreal — ethereal, vulnerable, and impossibly beautiful.
Taehyung couldn’t stop touching him.
His large hands roamed slowly over Jungkook’s bare back, tracing the delicate line of his spine. Jungkook shivered under the attention, pressing closer until their chests were flush, hearts beating in sync.
“Taehyung…” Jungkook whispered, voice trembling with both desire and fear. “If we do this… if you claim me… you can’t leave. Ever.”
The Alpha lifted his head, golden eyes glowing with intensity. He cupped Jungkook’s face with both hands, thumbs brushing over his flushed cheeks.
“Look at me,” Taehyung said, voice low and steady. “I left a kingdom for you. I turned my back on everything I knew. Claiming you won’t be the reason I stay — it will only make what I already feel permanent.”
Jungkook’s dark eyes searched his, still haunted by old wounds. “Everyone who was supposed to protect me left. My parents… they didn’t choose to, but they’re gone. I don’t think I could survive it if you—”
Taehyung silenced him with a deep, consuming kiss. He poured every ounce of his love and determination into it, tongue sliding against Jungkook’s, claiming his mouth with slow, deliberate strokes. When they parted, Jungkook was panting, lips swollen and glistening.
“I’m not them,” Taehyung growled softly, Alpha timbre thick in his voice. “I choose you. Today. Tomorrow. Every day after. Let me prove it.”
Jungkook nodded, a single tear slipping down his cheek. “Then claim me, Alpha. Make me yours.”
The words unlocked something primal in Taehyung.
He rolled them over so Jungkook lay beneath him, the Omega’s lithe body perfectly cradled by his larger frame. Taehyung kissed him again — slower this time, savoring every sigh and whimper. His hands explored with reverence, sliding down Jungkook’s sides, thumbs brushing over sensitive nipples until the Omega arched with a broken moan.
“You’re so beautiful,” Taehyung murmured against his neck, licking over the swollen scent gland. “So perfect for me.”
Jungkook’s scent exploded — wild berries drenched in sweet nectar, thick with arousal and slick. He was already wet, thighs trembling as Taehyung’s fingers trailed lower, teasing the sensitive skin of his inner thighs.
“Please…” Jungkook begged softly, hips rolling up instinctively. “I need you inside me.”
Taehyung took his time.
He kissed every inch of Jungkook’s body — collarbones, chest, the soft plane of his stomach, the sharp jut of his hips. When he finally reached Jungkook’s leaking cock, he took it into his mouth in one smooth motion, sucking gently while two fingers pressed inside the Omega’s slick entrance.
Jungkook cried out, fingers burying in Taehyung’s hair. The dual sensation was overwhelming — wet heat around his cock and skilled fingers stretching him open, curling perfectly against that spot inside that made stars burst behind his eyes.
“Tae— Taehyung— ah!” His voice echoed beautifully against the waterfall.
Taehyung worked him open patiently, adding a third finger, scissoring and stretching while his tongue swirled around the head of Jungkook’s cock. The Omega’s slick coated his fingers generously, the wet sounds obscene in the quiet night.
When Jungkook was shaking and sobbing with need, Taehyung pulled off and positioned himself between his spread thighs. He was achingly hard, his thick Alpha cock flushed dark and leaking. He rubbed the head against Jungkook’s slick entrance, teasing.
“Look at me,” Taehyung commanded gently.
Their eyes locked — golden against deep brown, Alpha and Omega, prince and guardian.
“I love you,” Taehyung said as he pushed inside in one long, smooth thrust.
Jungkook’s mouth fell open in a silent cry. The stretch was intense, perfect, overwhelming. Taehyung filled him completely, bottoming out with a deep groan. For a moment, neither moved, simply savoring the connection.
Then Taehyung began to move.
Slow, deep rolls of his hips that dragged against every sensitive spot inside Jungkook. The Omega wrapped his legs around Taehyung’s waist, pulling him deeper with every thrust. Their bodies moved together in perfect rhythm — skin sliding against skin, breaths mingling, scents blending into something new and unbreakable.
“Mine,” Taehyung growled, pace quickening. “You’re mine, Jungkook.”
“Yours,” Jungkook gasped, nails digging into Taehyung’s broad back. “Only yours, Alpha.”
The pace grew harder, more desperate. Taehyung pounded into him with powerful strokes, the sound of their bodies meeting mixing with the roar of the waterfall. Jungkook’s moans turned into high, needy whines as pleasure built higher and higher.
Taehyung leaned down, licking and sucking at Jungkook’s scent gland. His thrusts became more possessive, hips snapping with Alpha strength.
“Now,” he rasped. “Let me claim you properly.”
Jungkook tilted his head, baring his neck completely in submission. “Do it. Bite me.”
Taehyung struck.
His teeth sank into the soft flesh of Jungkook’s neck at the same moment he thrust deep and hard. The mating bite sent white-hot pleasure exploding through both of them. Jungkook screamed as his orgasm crashed over him, body clenching tightly around Taehyung’s cock. The bond snapped into place — a golden thread of emotion, love, and soul-deep connection.
Taehyung followed right after, burying himself to the hilt and spilling deep inside Jungkook with a guttural roar. His knot swelled, locking them together as wave after wave of release pulsed between them.
They stayed locked like that for a long time — Taehyung carefully maneuvering them so he lay on his back with Jungkook draped over his chest, still connected by the knot. The bite mark on Jungkook’s neck glowed faintly with magic, sealing their bond.
Jungkook was crying softly.
Taehyung held him close, one hand stroking his back while the other cradled his head. “Shhh, baby. I’ve got you. I’m right here.”
“I was so scared,” Jungkook whispered against his chest. “Scared that once you had me, you’d leave like everyone else.”
“Never,” Taehyung promised, voice hoarse but steady. He pressed gentle kisses to the fresh mating mark, soothing it with his tongue. “Feel it. Feel our bond. I’m part of you now. And you’re part of me. Forever.”
Jungkook lifted his head, eyes red but shining with love. He kissed Taehyung slowly, tenderly, the bond humming warmly between them. New emotions flowed freely — Taehyung could feel Jungkook’s lingering fear melting into overwhelming trust and joy.
They stayed connected for nearly an hour, exchanging soft kisses and whispered words of love. When Taehyung’s knot finally went down, he cleaned them both gently with water from the pool, then wrapped Jungkook in his arms again.
The forest celebrated around them. Flowers bloomed in vibrant colors, spirits danced in bright circles, and the trees swayed gently as if singing.
“You’re really mine now,” Jungkook said in wonder, tracing the fresh bite mark with his fingers.
Taehyung smiled, golden eyes soft with adoration. “And you’re mine. My wild Omega. My guardian. My heart.”
They fell asleep like that — tangled together on the moss, the sound of the waterfall lulling them into peaceful rest. The mating bond pulsed warmly between them, a constant, comforting presence.
For the first time, Jungkook felt truly safe. Truly wanted. Truly claimed.
But as they slept, far beyond the borders of the Forbidden Forest, torches moved through the trees. Royal scouts had found traces — a piece of Taehyung’s torn royal cloak caught on a branch, the faint lingering scent of a powerful Alpha.
The kingdom was getting closer. The peace of their claiming night was beautiful. But it would not last forever.
——
The morning after the claiming dawned softer than any before. Jungkook woke first, nestled securely against Taehyung’s broad chest. The fresh mating bite on his neck throbbed warmly, a constant reminder of their bond. He traced it with careful fingers, a small, shy smile playing on his lips. For the first time in his life, the emptiness that had lived inside him since childhood felt filled.
Taehyung stirred, golden eyes fluttering open. The moment he saw Jungkook, his expression softened into pure adoration. He pulled the Omega closer, pressing a deep, lingering kiss to the mating mark.
“Good morning, my mate,” he murmured, voice still rough with sleep.
Jungkook shivered at the possessiveness in those words. “Yours,” he whispered back, nuzzling into Taehyung’s neck, inhaling the rich scent of dark cherry wine and cedar that now carried traces of his own wild berry sweetness.
They stayed tangled together for a long while, exchanging lazy kisses and soft touches. The forest around Silverfall seemed to celebrate with them — birds sang brighter, flowers bloomed in vibrant bursts of color, and gentle sunlight filtered through the canopy like liquid gold.
But peace in the Forbidden Forest was never meant to last.
By midday, something felt wrong.
Jungkook noticed it first while they were gathering herbs near the outer paths. The usual hum of the forest had dulled. The trees whispered uneasily. Small spirits that normally danced playfully now hid between leaves, their lights dim and flickering with anxiety.
“The forest is restless,” Jungkook said quietly, his hand pressed against the trunk of an ancient oak. “Something… disturbs the balance.”
Taehyung’s instincts sharpened immediately. He stepped closer, one arm wrapping protectively around Jungkook’s waist. “What do you feel?”
“Intruders,” Jungkook replied, eyes narrowing. “Many. They carry metal and fire. And they smell like… your kingdom.”
Taehyung’s blood ran cold.
They moved silently through the trees, Jungkook leading with his natural grace while Taehyung followed, every muscle tense. The deeper they ventured toward the forest’s western border, the clearer the signs became.
Broken branches. Heavy boot prints pressed into the soft moss. The faint scent of smoke and oiled steel cutting through the clean air. A piece of dark red fabric — unmistakably royal — caught on a thorn bush.
Taehyung picked it up, his jaw clenching so tightly it ached. The fabric carried the royal crest of Bangtan, though faded and torn.
“They’re here,” he said, voice low and grim. “My father’s men. They’ve finally found the border.”
Jungkook’s face paled. He crouched down, touching the ground where multiple footprints converged. “At least twenty. Maybe more. They’re moving carefully, but they’re cutting through the outer wards. The forest is fighting them, but… they’re persistent.”
Taehyung felt a heavy wave of guilt crash over him. He dropped the fabric as if it burned his fingers.
“This is my fault,” he said bitterly. “I brought them here. I ran into your forest thinking I could hide, and now I’ve painted a target on everything you love.”
Jungkook stood up slowly, turning to face him. “Taehyung…”
“No,” the Alpha interrupted, running a hand through his hair. “You warned me from the beginning. You told me the forest rejects outsiders. I was selfish. I stayed because I fell in love with you, but I never truly considered what it would cost you.”
Jungkook stepped forward and grabbed Taehyung’s tunic, forcing the taller man to look at him. “Stop. We knew this might happen. The bond we share now is stronger than their swords.”
But Taehyung’s golden eyes were clouded with regret. “What if they burn the forest to find me? What if they hurt you because of me? I should have kept running. I should have—”
Jungkook silenced him with a fierce kiss. When he pulled back, his eyes were blazing with determination.
“You are my mate,” he said firmly. “Chosen. Claimed. I will not let you carry this guilt alone. The forest chose to let you stay. It accepted you the night we bonded. We face this together.”
Taehyung pulled him into a tight embrace, burying his face in Jungkook’s neck, breathing in their mingled scents. The mating bite pulsed warmly under his lips, reminding him of the promise he had made.
“I won’t let them take you from me,” Taehyung vowed, voice dark with Alpha power. “I’ll fight every last one of them if I have to.”
They spent the rest of the day reinforcing the forest’s defenses. Jungkook channeled his magic into the trees, asking them to grow thicker barriers and create confusing paths. Taehyung used his strength to help — moving heavy stones, setting up natural traps with vines and fallen logs. Every movement was filled with urgency.
As evening fell, they returned to the pondok exhausted but alert. The air felt heavier, charged with impending conflict.
After a quiet meal, they sat outside under the glowing vines. Jungkook leaned against Taehyung’s chest, the Alpha’s arms wrapped securely around him.
“How long do we have?” Jungkook asked softly.
“A few days, maybe a week,” Taehyung replied. “My father is thorough. Once they find a trail, they won’t stop. Especially if they smell me… and you.”
Jungkook tilted his head. “Me?”
Taehyung’s hand gently touched the mating bite. “Our bond makes our scents intertwined. They’ll know I’ve claimed an Omega. They’ll see it as weakness. Or as something they can use against me.”
Jungkook’s expression hardened. “Let them try.”
That night, their lovemaking carried a new edge — desperate and possessive. Taehyung took Jungkook slowly but deeply on the fur bed, every thrust a silent promise to protect what was his. Jungkook clung to him, nails digging into Taehyung’s back, moans muffled against his shoulder. When they reached their peak, the bond flared brightly between them, strengthening their connection.
Afterwards, as they lay tangled together, Taehyung spoke into the quiet darkness.
“If it comes down to it… if they force me to choose between the kingdom and you… I choose you. I will always choose you.”
Jungkook’s heart ached with both love and fear. “I don’t want you to lose everything because of me.”
“You are my everything now.”
The following morning brought clearer proof of the threat.
While checking the western borders, they found a small campsite recently abandoned. Ashes still warm. Discarded weapons. And worst of all — arrows tipped with royal poison designed to weaken magical creatures.
Jungkook’s hands trembled as he picked up one of the arrows. “They came prepared to fight the forest itself.”
Taehyung’s guilt returned tenfold. He knelt beside Jungkook, pulling the Omega into his arms.
“I’m sorry,” he whispered repeatedly. “I’m so fucking sorry for bringing this darkness here.”
Jungkook turned in his embrace, cupping Taehyung’s face. “Then help me protect it. Stay and fight with me instead of drowning in regret. Be the Alpha I chose — not the prince who ran away.”
Their foreheads pressed together. The bond hummed with shared resolve and love.
As they made their way back toward the heart of the forest, the trees began to groan louder. Distant sounds of metal clashing against roots echoed faintly. The scouts were pushing deeper.
Taehyung stopped suddenly, pulling Jungkook behind him protectively. His golden eyes glowed with fierce determination.
“They want their prince back,” he growled. “But the prince is dead. Only your mate remains.”
Jungkook stood beside him, slender but unbreakable, wild magic flickering at his fingertips.
“Then we show them what happens when they threaten our home.”
The threat from the outside world had finally arrived at their doorstep. The fragile peace they had built was cracking. But their bond — freshly claimed and fiercely loved — burned brighter than ever, ready to face the coming storm.
——
The forest began to turn against Taehyung three days after they discovered the royal campsite.
It started subtly — almost too subtle to notice at first. A root that rose deliberately under his foot, causing him to stumble. A branch that whipped across his face when there was no wind. The glowing spirits that once danced curiously around him now flickered away whenever he approached, their lights dimming with distrust.
Jungkook felt it before Taehyung did.
The bond between the Omega and the ancient woods ran deeper than blood. Every shift in the forest’s mood echoed through Jungkook’s body like a second heartbeat. And right now, that heartbeat was growing erratic.
“You need to stay inside today,” Jungkook said quietly that morning, his voice lacking its usual strength. He stood by the window of the pondok, one hand pressed against the wooden wall as if drawing energy from it. His skin looked paler than usual, a faint sheen of sweat on his forehead despite the cool air.
Taehyung frowned, stepping closer. “What’s wrong? You’ve been quiet since yesterday.”
Jungkook turned, and Taehyung’s chest tightened at the sight. The Omega’s eyes were tired, the usual vibrant spark in them dulled. The fresh mating bite on his neck still glowed softly, but the surrounding skin looked flushed and feverish.
“The forest… it’s rejecting you,” Jungkook admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. “Your scent still carries too much of the palace. Stone. Metal. Human greed. The trees remember what your people did to my parents. They’re afraid you’ll bring more destruction.”
Taehyung felt the words like a physical blow. He reached for Jungkook, but the Omega stepped back slightly, wincing as if the movement hurt.
“I thought the claiming would fix this,” Taehyung said, voice rough with frustration. “Our bond — it should have made me part of this place.”
Jungkook shook his head slowly. “The claiming bound us together. But the forest is older than any mating bite. It has its own will. And right now… it sees you as a threat that has brought soldiers to its heart.”
Outside, the usual peaceful sounds of the forest had changed. The trees groaned louder, a low, unsettling rumble that vibrated through the ground. Leaves that once shimmered with magic now curled at the edges, turning dull. The air felt thicker, heavier with unspoken accusation.
Taehyung paced the small space, his powerful frame tense with barely contained anger — mostly directed at himself.
“This is my fault,” he growled. “Every step I take here pollutes your home. I should have left weeks ago. I should have—”
“Stop,” Jungkook cut him off sharply, though his voice cracked at the end. He clutched the edge of the table for support as a wave of dizziness hit him. “Don’t talk like that. You’re my mate. I chose you.”
But even as he said the words, Jungkook’s knees buckled. Taehyung moved instantly, catching him before he could fall. The Alpha lifted Jungkook effortlessly into his arms, carrying him to the fur bed. The moment Taehyung’s skin touched Jungkook’s, he could feel the unnatural heat radiating from the Omega’s body.
“You’re burning up,” Taehyung said, panic bleeding into his voice. He pressed a large hand to Jungkook’s forehead. “This isn’t normal heat. What’s happening to you?”
Jungkook curled into himself, breathing shallow. “The bond… between me and the forest. It’s straining. Because I’m bonded to you now, the forest is punishing me too. It thinks I’ve betrayed it by choosing an outsider.”
Taehyung’s golden eyes widened in horror. “No. That’s not fair. You didn’t betray anything.”
He quickly brought water and cooling herbs, crushing them with trembling hands the way Jungkook had taught him. He mixed the paste and gently applied it to Jungkook’s feverish skin — neck, wrists, chest. Every touch was careful, reverent, but laced with growing desperation.
“I feel useless,” Taehyung admitted, voice breaking as he knelt beside the bed. “In the palace, I could command armies. Here, I can’t even protect you from the very place that’s supposed to be your home.”
Jungkook reached out weakly, his slender fingers brushing Taehyung’s cheek. “You are protecting me. Just by staying. By choosing me every day.”
But his words were cut off by a sharp gasp of pain. Jungkook’s body arched as invisible magic lashed through him. The trees outside groaned louder, as if in response. A vine near the window withered and turned black right before their eyes.
Taehyung pulled Jungkook into his lap, cradling the smaller body against his chest. He released his Alpha pheromones fully — dark cherry wine and smoldering cedar — trying to soothe his mate through their bond. He scented Jungkook relentlessly, licking over the mating bite, pouring every ounce of love and protection into the gesture.
“Fight it,” Taehyung whispered fiercely against his hair. “You’re the guardian. The forest loves you. It can’t take you from me.”
Jungkook whimpered, tears slipping down his flushed cheeks. “It hurts, Taehyung. Like my soul is being torn in two.”
The sight shattered something inside the Alpha. Taehyung had faced angry kings, political betrayal, and the deadly forest itself when he first arrived. But seeing his strong, wild Omega reduced to this — trembling and in pain because of him — was unbearable.
Hours passed in agony.
Taehyung refused to leave Jungkook’s side. He held him through every wave of pain, wiped the sweat from his brow, forced him to drink healing infusions, and sang low, rough lullabies he remembered from his own childhood — the only comfort he could offer. The powerful Alpha prince, once so proud and commanding, was reduced to helpless desperation.
As night fell, Jungkook’s condition worsened.
His breathing became labored. The mating bite, which should have glowed with healthy magic, flickered unsteadily. The bond between them was still strong, but it was now tangled with the forest’s rejection, creating a painful feedback loop.
“I’m sorry,” Taehyung kept repeating, voice hoarse. “I’m so fucking sorry for bringing this upon you. If I could rip the royal blood from my veins, I would.”
Jungkook, half-delirious from fever, clutched Taehyung’s tunic weakly. “Don’t leave me… even if the forest wants you gone. Please.”
“Never,” Taehyung vowed, tears burning in his own eyes. “I’d rather burn with this forest than live without you.”
Outside, the situation grew more dire.
The royal scouts had pushed deeper. Distant sounds of axes chopping at resistant trees echoed through the night. Smoke carried on the wind — the soldiers were burning sections of the outer forest to force a path. The trees screamed in pain, and every scream reverberated through Jungkook’s fragile body.
Jungkook cried out, curling tighter into Taehyung’s embrace. “They’re hurting it… my home…”
Taehyung felt powerless like never before. He wanted to run out and fight the intruders with his bare hands, but he couldn’t leave Jungkook. Not like this.
As midnight approached, Jungkook fell into a restless, fevered sleep. Taehyung held him close, rocking him gently, his broad body curled protectively around the Omega. The Alpha’s heart ached with a depth of love and guilt he had never known.
In the quiet darkness, Taehyung made a silent promise.
If the forest demanded a sacrifice to accept him, he would find a way to give it. He would prove himself worthy — not as a prince, but as a mate who would rather die than let Jungkook suffer.
But as Jungkook whimpered softly in his sleep, face twisted in pain, Taehyung wondered for the first time if love would be enough to overcome the ancient resentment of the Forbidden Forest.
The betrayal of the woods had begun. And it threatened to tear apart everything they had fought so hard to build.
——
The pondok felt smaller with every passing hour, as if the walls themselves were closing in.
Jungkook’s condition had deteriorated rapidly overnight. The fever burned hotter, his lithe body trembling uncontrollably in Taehyung’s arms. The mating bite on his neck, once a glowing symbol of their bond, now pulsed with erratic, painful light — a visible sign of the tearing conflict between his soul, his mate, and the ancient forest he was sworn to protect.
Taehyung hadn’t slept. He sat with his back against the wooden wall, Jungkook cradled between his legs, the Omega’s back pressed to his chest. His large hands continuously rubbed slow circles over Jungkook’s stomach, trying to ease the cramps that wracked the smaller body every few minutes.
“You’re going to be okay,” Taehyung whispered repeatedly, voice hoarse from exhaustion and fear. “I’m here. I’ve got you.”
But Jungkook could barely respond anymore. His usual bright eyes were glassy, half-lidded with pain. Sweat soaked through his thin tunic, plastering it to his skin. Every breath came with a soft, broken whimper that tore at Taehyung’s heart like claws.
Outside, the forest’s anger grew louder. Trees groaned like wounded animals. The wind howled through the canopy, carrying distant sounds of steel and shouting — the royal soldiers were getting closer, burning and cutting their way through the outer defenses.
Jungkook suddenly convulsed, a sharp cry escaping his lips as another wave of rejection magic lashed through him. His fingers dug desperately into Taehyung’s forearms, nails drawing blood.
“Taehyung…” he gasped, voice barely audible. “It hurts… so much…”
Taehyung tightened his hold, pressing his face into Jungkook’s damp hair, scenting him frantically. His rich Alpha pheromones flooded the room, trying in vain to soothe his mate. “I know, baby. I know. Fight it. Please fight it for me.”
When the spasm passed, Jungkook slumped heavily against him, breathing ragged. For a long moment, the only sounds were the crackling fire and the Omega’s labored breathing.
Then Jungkook spoke, voice weak but devastatingly clear.
“You… should go back.”
Taehyung froze. “What?”
Jungkook turned his head slightly, eyes filled with pain and resignation. “Go back to the palace, Taehyung. Before it’s too late. Before the forest kills me trying to reject you.”
The words landed like a strike across Taehyung’s face.
“No,” the Alpha growled immediately, golden eyes flashing with fury. “Don’t you dare say that to me.”
Jungkook continued anyway, each word costing him strength. “They’re burning the trees… my family. The soldiers won’t stop until they find you. If you return now, you can stop them. You can tell your father you’ll marry the princess. You can save the forest. Save me.”
Taehyung’s body went rigid. His arms around Jungkook tightened possessively, almost too tight.
“You think I can just walk away from you?” His voice rose, shaking with barely controlled rage and heartbreak. “After everything? After I claimed you? After I told you I would choose you a thousand times?”
Jungkook’s tears slipped down his fevered cheeks. “I’m dying, Taehyung. The bond with the forest… it’s breaking me. Every day you stay here, every step you take, the trees see you as poison. As the reason their guardian is tainted. If you leave… maybe it will forgive me. Maybe it will let me heal.”
The silence that followed was deafening.
Taehyung suddenly moved, gently but firmly laying Jungkook down on the furs before standing up. He paced the small room like a caged animal, hands clenched into fists so tight his knuckles turned white.
“You want me to go back to that hell?” he shouted, voice cracking. “To a father who disowned me? To a political marriage with an Omega I don’t love? To a throne that would chain me for the rest of my life? After I finally found freedom with you?”
Jungkook pushed himself up weakly on his elbows, breathing hard. “I want you to live. I want the forest to live. I’ve already lost my parents… I can’t lose this entire world too. Not because of me being selfish.”
“Selfish?” Taehyung whirled around, eyes blazing. “You think loving me is selfish? After you saved my life? After you taught me how to be more than just a crown? After you let me claim you under the waterfall and promised forever?”
He dropped to his knees beside the bed, grabbing Jungkook’s hands. His own were shaking.
“I left everything for you, Jungkook. Everything. Don’t you dare push me away now. Not when I finally have something worth fighting for.”
Jungkook sobbed, the sound raw and painful. “I’m scared. I’m so scared that if you stay, you’ll watch me die slowly. And then you’ll hate yourself forever. Or worse — the soldiers will find us and kill us both. At least if you go back, one of us can survive.”
Taehyung’s control finally snapped.
He surged forward, cupping Jungkook’s face with both hands, forcing the Omega to look at him. Tears glistened in the Alpha’s golden eyes — something the proud prince had rarely shown.
“I would rather die here with you than live a thousand years without you,” he said fiercely, voice breaking. “You are my mate. My home. My reason for breathing. If the forest wants me gone, then let it try to take me. But I will not leave you. Not now. Not ever.”
Jungkook cried harder, his slender body shaking with exhaustion and emotion. “Why are you so stubborn? Why can’t you see that I’m trying to save you?”
“Because I love you too much to let you sacrifice yourself for me!” Taehyung roared, pulling Jungkook into his arms again. He held him so tightly it was almost bruising. “You spent your whole life alone, protecting everyone else. Let me protect you for once. Let me be the one who stays.”
The argument dissolved into desperate hurt/comfort.
Taehyung rocked them both, pressing frantic kisses to Jungkook’s fevered forehead, his wet cheeks, the glowing but unstable mating bite. He released every ounce of his Alpha scent, wrapping it around Jungkook like a protective shield.
“I’m sorry,” Jungkook whispered between sobs, clutching Taehyung’s tunic. “I’m so sorry… I just don’t want to lose you the way I lost them.”
“You won’t lose me,” Taehyung vowed, voice rough and thick with tears. “I’m not them. I’m not leaving. Even if the forest burns around us, I will stay by your side. We’ll fight this together. You and me. Mate to mate.”
Jungkook buried his face in Taehyung’s neck, inhaling his scent as if it was the only thing keeping him alive. His body slowly relaxed in the Alpha’s strong embrace, the worst of the pain momentarily eased by the closeness and the bond.
Taehyung continued whispering promises against his hair — promises of forever, of protection, of a future where they would both be accepted by the forest. He sang softly again, the same rough lullaby from the palace, but now filled with new meaning.
Hours passed like this. The fire burned low. The forest continued its restless groaning outside, but inside the pondok, two broken souls held each other together with nothing but love and sheer willpower.
Eventually, Jungkook’s breathing evened out into a restless sleep. Taehyung didn’t let go. He kept holding his mate, staring at the flickering fire with determined eyes.
The choice was no longer difficult.
He had already made it the moment he first kissed Jungkook.
As the first hints of dawn crept through the vines, Taehyung pressed one final kiss to the mating bite and whispered into the quiet:
“I’m staying. No matter what comes.”
The heavy choice had been made.
But the price of that choice — the forest’s growing wrath and the approaching army — was about to demand everything from them.
——
The fragile peace shattered at dawn. A deafening roar echoed through the forest as centuries-old trees were violently uprooted. The ground trembled beneath the pondok, and the glowing vines covering the walls flickered erratically, as if screaming in pain.
Taehyung was already awake, his body coiled like a predator ready to strike. He had barely slept, keeping vigil over Jungkook whose fever had finally broken into a restless, exhausted slumber. The mating bite on Jungkook’s neck still pulsed unsteadily, a constant reminder of the forest’s rejection.
“They’re here,” Taehyung growled, golden eyes glowing with lethal intensity. He gently shook Jungkook awake. “My love, wake up. We don’t have time.”
Jungkook’s eyes fluttered open, still hazy with fatigue. “How close?”
“Too close.”
They moved quickly. Taehyung helped Jungkook to his feet, supporting most of his weight as the Omega’s legs trembled. Despite his weakened state, Jungkook’s expression hardened with determination. He pressed his palm against the wooden wall of the pondok, drawing what little strength he could from the forest.
“I can still fight,” Jungkook said, voice hoarse but steady. “The trees will answer me… for now.”
Taehyung strapped a dagger to his thigh and grabbed the sturdy wooden staff Jungkook had carved for him weeks ago. “Stay behind me as much as you can. If it gets bad, run deeper into the forest. I’ll hold them off.”
Jungkook grabbed his arm, eyes flashing. “We fight together. I’m not leaving you.”
Their lips met in a quick, desperate kiss — a silent promise and farewell all at once. Then they stepped out of the pondok into chaos.
The once peaceful clearing was now a battlefield.
At least thirty royal soldiers in gleaming armor emerged from the treeline, their swords drawn and torches blazing. At their front rode Captain Minho, one of King Seojun’s most trusted Alphas, his face twisted in triumph when he spotted Taehyung.
“Prince Taehyung!” Captain Minho bellowed, voice carrying across the clearing. “By order of the King, you are to return to Bangtan Palace immediately. Your little rebellion ends here.”
Taehyung stepped forward, shielding Jungkook with his body. His powerful Alpha presence exploded outward — dark cherry wine and smoldering cedar laced with pure rage. Several soldiers instinctively stepped back.
“I am no longer your prince,” Taehyung declared, voice deep and commanding. “I renounce my title. Tell my father I will never return. This forest is my home now.”
Captain Minho laughed coldly. “You renounced nothing. You are the future king, and that wild Omega behind you is nothing but a distraction. We have orders to bring you back… by force if necessary. The forest will burn if we must.”
Jungkook stepped out from behind Taehyung, eyes blazing with ancient magic. “This forest belongs to no king. Leave now, or suffer its wrath.”
The soldiers charged.
The battle erupted in a violent clash of steel and magic.
Taehyung roared, swinging his staff with devastating force. The heavy wood cracked against armor, sending two soldiers flying. His movements were fluid and lethal — years of royal combat training combined with the raw strength he had gained living in the wild. He fought like a man possessed, every strike protecting the space around Jungkook.
“Stay close!” he shouted to his mate.
Jungkook called upon the forest. Vines burst from the ground like living whips, wrapping around soldiers’ legs and dragging them down. Trees shifted their roots to trip attackers. Glowing spirits swarmed forward, blinding soldiers with bright flashes of light.
For a moment, they held the line.
Taehyung moved like a storm. He disarmed one soldier with a brutal twist, stole the man’s sword, and began cutting through the ranks with deadly precision. Blood sprayed across the moss as he fought with everything he had. His tunic tore at the shoulder, revealing the powerful muscles beneath, now flexing with lethal grace.
Jungkook’s magic grew more desperate. He raised both hands, summoning a wall of thorny vines that impaled three soldiers at once. But each spell cost him. His breathing grew ragged. Blood trickled from his nose as the forest’s lingering rejection fought against his commands.
“Jungkook!” Taehyung yelled, noticing his mate swaying. He fought his way back, slashing through two more soldiers to reach him. “Conserve your strength!”
“I can’t… they’re too many,” Jungkook gasped, wiping blood from his lips.
Captain Minho spotted the weakness. “Target the Omega! He’s the forest’s heart!”
A group of elite soldiers broke through, charging straight at Jungkook. Taehyung roared in fury, intercepting them with savage intensity. He moved faster than should have been possible, his Alpha rut-like rage fueling every blow. One soldier’s sword grazed his side, drawing blood, but Taehyung didn’t stop. He drove his stolen blade through the man’s armor, then spun and kicked another in the chest with bone-crushing force.
Jungkook tried to help. He summoned a burst of forest energy — sharp wooden spikes shooting from the ground. Several soldiers screamed as they were impaled. But the effort proved too much. Jungkook cried out in pain, collapsing to one knee as the forest’s rejection magic lashed back at him violently.
The mating bond flared in protest. Taehyung felt Jungkook’s pain through their connection like a knife to his own chest.
“Get away from him!” Taehyung bellowed. His eyes glowed brighter as he entered a near-feral state. He fought with terrifying power, becoming a whirlwind of death. Limbs were broken, armor shattered, and screams filled the air as he carved a path of blood to reach his mate.
He reached Jungkook just as three soldiers closed in. Taehyung tackled one, snapping his neck with brutal efficiency, then drove his sword through another’s throat. The third managed to slash across Taehyung’s back before the Alpha buried his dagger in the man’s eye.
Taehyung dropped to his knees beside Jungkook, breathing heavily, covered in blood — both his own and his enemies’.
“Can you stand?” he asked urgently, supporting Jungkook’s weight.
Jungkook nodded weakly, but his legs gave out again. “I’m… sorry. The forest is fighting me too much.”
More soldiers poured from the trees. At least twenty remained, and reinforcements could be heard in the distance. Captain Minho raised his sword, eyes locked on Jungkook with deadly intent.
“Kill the Omega first! The prince will follow once his whore is dead!”
Taehyung’s vision turned red.
He stood up slowly, placing Jungkook gently behind him. Blood dripped from multiple wounds on his body, but the Alpha had never looked more terrifying. His scent turned dark and suffocating, pure dominance and protective fury.
“You will not touch him,” he said, voice low and deadly. “He is my mate. My claimed. And I will paint this entire forest red before I let any of you lay a finger on him.”
The final clash was brutal.
Taehyung fought like a god of war. He no longer cared about mercy or strategy. Every soldier who dared approach Jungkook was met with savage, unrelenting violence. His sword became an extension of his rage. When it broke, he used his fists and the environment — smashing heads against trees, snapping necks, using vines Jungkook had summoned earlier as weapons.
Jungkook, despite his exhaustion, managed one final act of defiance. He channeled the last of his strength into the earth. Massive roots erupted, creating a protective circle around them both. The roots impaled several more soldiers, buying them precious seconds.
But Jungkook paid the price.
He collapsed completely, blood pouring from his nose and mouth, body convulsing from magical backlash. The mating bond screamed in agony between them.
Taehyung fought through the protective roots, standing over his fallen mate like a guardian demon. His chest heaved, body covered in sweat and blood, golden eyes blazing with unyielding fury.
Captain Minho approached slowly, sword raised. “This is madness, Your Highness. All for one forest slut?”
Taehyung’s lips curled into a snarl. “Say another word about him and I’ll rip your tongue out.”
The two powerful Alphas charged.
Steel clashed violently. Minho was skilled, but Taehyung fought with the desperation of a man protecting his entire world. He disarmed the captain with a brutal twist, then drove his fist into Minho’s face, shattering bone. As the captain fell, Taehyung grabbed him by the throat, lifting him off the ground.
“Tell my father,” Taehyung growled, voice barely human, “that Kim Taehyung is dead. Only the mate of Jungkook remains.”
He threw Captain Minho into a cluster of soldiers, creating chaos.
But victory was short-lived.
More troops were arriving. Jungkook lay motionless behind him. The protective roots were withering. Taehyung stood alone, breathing heavily, surrounded by bodies and approaching danger.
He dropped to one knee beside Jungkook, pulling the unconscious Omega into his arms. Blood from his own wounds dripped onto Jungkook’s pale face.
“Hold on, my love,” he whispered, voice breaking. “Please hold on. I’m not letting them take us.”
The forest was burning at the edges. Smoke rose into the sky. The sounds of reinforcements grew louder.
Taehyung pressed his forehead to Jungkook’s, the mating bond flickering weakly between them. This was the true test. And they were running out of time.
——
The forest was dying around them. Smoke curled thick and black through the canopy as flames consumed the outer edges. Ancient trees that had stood for centuries cracked and fell with thunderous groans, their final screams echoing through the bond that tied Jungkook to the land. The once luminous ground was now stained with blood — both royal red and the dark crimson of fallen soldiers.
Taehyung knelt in the center of the destruction, his powerful body trembling as he cradled Jungkook’s limp form against his chest. The Alpha’s own wounds bled freely — a deep gash across his ribs, another on his thigh, and countless cuts across his arms and back — but he felt no pain. Nothing compared to the agony radiating through their mating bond.
“Jungkook… baby, open your eyes,” Taehyung whispered desperately, voice cracking. His large hand cupped the Omega’s pale cheek, thumb brushing away streaks of blood and dirt. “Please… don’t leave me.”
Jungkook’s breathing was terrifyingly shallow. His skin burned with unnatural fever, and his lips had turned a sickly blue. The mating bite on his neck flickered weakly, the golden glow almost completely extinguished. Every few seconds, his body would jerk with violent spasms as the forest’s rejection magic tore through him.
He had used too much power.
The final burst of roots and vines that had saved them had drained the last of his life force. The forest, in its pain and anger, was now actively pulling its magic away from its guardian — punishing him for bonding with the enemy.
Taehyung rocked him gently, pressing frantic kisses to his forehead, his closed eyelids, the fading mating mark. Tears cut clean trails down his blood-stained face.
“I’m here. I’m right here. You’re not alone anymore. You promised me forever, remember? You can’t break that promise.”
A weak, broken sound escaped Jungkook’s throat. His eyelids fluttered, revealing glassy, unfocused eyes.
“Tae… hyung…” he rasped, the sound barely audible over the crackling flames and distant shouts of approaching reinforcements.
“I’m here, my love.” Taehyung’s voice broke completely. He pressed their foreheads together, sharing what little strength he had left through the bond. “Stay with me. Fight it.”
Jungkook’s fingers weakly clutched Taehyung’s torn tunic. “Hurts… everything hurts. The trees… they’re screaming at me. They want you gone.”
“I don’t care what they want,” Taehyung growled, fresh tears falling onto Jungkook’s face. “I only care about you.”
The sound of heavy boots and clanking armor grew louder. Captain Minho, badly injured but still alive, limped forward with a group of twenty fresh soldiers. Behind them, a royal messenger on a white horse carried the King’s banner.
“Prince Taehyung!” the messenger called out, voice booming with false authority. “His Majesty offers you one final chance. Return to the palace. Marry Princess Mira of Eldoria. Complete the alliance. In return, we will withdraw all forces from this cursed forest and provide healers for your… companion.”
Taehyung’s golden eyes snapped up, burning with murderous rage.
The messenger continued carefully, “If you refuse… the forest will be burned to ash. Every tree. Every living thing. Your Omega will die here, slowly and painfully. The choice is yours.”
Jungkook whimpered in Taehyung’s arms, his body convulsing again as another wave of magical backlash hit him. Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth.
Taehyung felt his world fracturing.
He looked down at the love of his life — the wild, beautiful Omega who had saved him, taught him, loved him despite every reason not to. Jungkook’s once luminous skin was ashen. His long black hair was matted with sweat and blood. The strong, defiant guardian who had danced under moonlight and claimed his heart was fading away in his arms.
Because of him.
Because he had brought the kingdom’s poison into this sacred place.
Taehyung’s shoulders shook with silent sobs as he pressed his face into Jungkook’s neck, inhaling their fading mingled scent.
“I can’t lose you,” he whispered brokenly. “I can’t.”
Jungkook’s weak hand reached up, trembling fingers brushing Taehyung’s jaw. “Go…” he breathed, voice barely a whisper. “Save… the forest. Save yourself. I… I’ll be okay. The trees will forgive me… when you’re gone.”
The words destroyed Taehyung.
“No!” he roared, clutching Jungkook tighter. “Don’t you dare ask me to leave you! I chose you! I claimed you! You are my mate — my everything!”
Jungkook’s eyes filled with tears that spilled down his temples. “I know… but I can’t watch this forest die. It’s all I have left. If you stay… we both die. If you go back… at least one of us lives.”
Taehyung shook his head violently, tears streaming freely now. The proud Alpha prince who had once commanded respect with a single look was reduced to nothing but raw, devastating grief.
“I don’t want to live without you,” he choked out. “A life back in that golden cage, married to someone I don’t love, while knowing you’re dead because of me? That’s not living. That’s hell.”
Captain Minho stepped closer, sword still drawn. “Decide quickly, Your Highness. The forest burns as we speak.”
Taehyung looked around at the destruction. Flames licked higher. Ancient trees fell one by one. The glowing spirits that once danced playfully were now scattered and dim, many winking out of existence. The heart of the forest — their home — was being destroyed.
All because he had run here.
All because he had fallen in love.
Jungkook coughed violently, more blood staining his lips. His body grew colder despite the fever. The bond between them was fading — a terrifying, hollow feeling spreading through Taehyung’s chest.
“Taehyung…” Jungkook whispered, using the last of his strength to smile weakly. “Thank you… for loving me. For making me feel… wanted. Even for a little while.”
The Alpha broke.
A guttural, animalistic sound tore from Taehyung’s throat as he clutched Jungkook to his chest, sobbing openly. His powerful body shook with the force of his grief. He pressed desperate kisses to every inch of Jungkook’s face, tasting salt and blood.
“I love you,” he repeated like a prayer. “I love you. I love you. Don’t leave me. Please don’t leave me. I can’t do this without you.”
For several long, agonizing minutes, the only sounds were Taehyung’s broken sobs and the crackling of distant flames.
Then, with a voice that sounded like it had been dragged through broken glass, Taehyung spoke to the messenger without looking up.
“Tell my father… I will return.”
The words tasted like poison.
Jungkook’s eyes widened in horror. “No… Taehyung, don’t—”
“I’ll marry the princess,” Taehyung continued, voice dead and hollow. “I’ll secure the alliance. But you will heal my mate first. You will give him the best healers and leave this forest untouched. If you break this promise, I will burn the palace down myself.”
The messenger nodded. “It will be done.”
Taehyung looked down at Jungkook, whose tears were flowing freely now.
“I’m sorry,” Taehyung whispered, forehead pressed to Jungkook’s. “I’m so sorry, my love. But I can’t watch you die. I’d rather live in misery knowing you’re alive than die here with you in my arms.”
Jungkook sobbed weakly, his fingers clutching Taehyung’s bloodied tunic with the last of his strength. “Don’t go… please… I’d rather die with you here…”
Taehyung kissed him then — slow, deep, and heartbreakingly tender. It tasted of blood, tears, and goodbye. When he pulled back, both of them were shattered.
“You will live,” Taehyung said firmly, even as his heart was being ripped apart. “You will heal. You will protect this forest again. And one day… maybe the forest will forgive me for what I’m about to do.”
He lifted Jungkook carefully into his arms, standing on unsteady legs. Blood continued to pour from his own wounds, but he didn’t care. He would carry his mate to safety even if it killed him.
As they began the painful walk toward the edge of the forest, surrounded by royal soldiers, Taehyung looked back one last time at the pondok hidden between the banyan trees — their home, their love nest, the place where he had learned what it truly meant to be alive.
His golden eyes filled with fresh tears.
“I love you, Jungkook,” he whispered into the Omega’s hair. “More than my own life. More than any kingdom. Forgive me for this sacrifice.”
Jungkook had already lost consciousness again, his head limp against Taehyung’s shoulder.
The Alpha prince who had run away from duty was returning.
But the man who returned would no longer be whole.
His heart remained in the Forbidden Forest — with the wild Omega who had taught him how to love.
——
The journey out of the forest was the longest of Taehyung’s life. Every step sent fresh pain through his body, but it was nothing compared to the hollow ache in his chest. Jungkook lay unconscious in his arms, breathing shallow and fragile, his head limp against Taehyung’s bloodied shoulder. The mating bond between them was barely a flicker — weak, fading, like a candle fighting against the wind.
Royal soldiers surrounded them in a tight formation, their swords still drawn. Captain Minho rode beside them on horseback, watching Taehyung with wary respect and suspicion.
As they reached the edge of the Forbidden Forest, where the ancient trees gave way to open plains, the royal procession came into view.
King Seojun himself had come.
The King sat atop a majestic white stallion, clad in royal armor and a crimson cloak. Behind him stood hundreds of soldiers, banners of Bangtan fluttering in the wind. Princess Mira of Eldoria was also present, seated in an elegant carriage, watching with cold, calculating eyes.
Taehyung stopped at the border. The moment his boots touched the grass outside the forest, something inside him screamed in protest.
He looked down at Jungkook’s pale face — the long lashes, the full lips now cracked and dry, the beautiful wild Omega who had given him everything.
And he broke.
“I can’t do this,” Taehyung whispered.
Captain Minho frowned. “Your Highness?”
Taehyung slowly lowered himself to his knees, still cradling Jungkook protectively against his chest. Blood from his wounds soaked into the grass. His golden eyes lifted to meet his father’s gaze across the clearing.
King Seojun’s expression was stern. “So you’ve finally come to your senses, boy. Hand over the Omega to the healers and mount your horse. We have a wedding to prepare.”
Taehyung’s voice rang out, low at first, then growing stronger with every word.
“No.”
A heavy silence fell over the entire army.
Taehyung gently laid Jungkook down on a bed of soft moss at the forest’s edge, brushing damp hair from his mate’s forehead with trembling fingers. Then he stood up slowly, tall and imposing despite his injuries. Blood dripped down his arms and torso, but his presence — raw, powerful, and filled with unyielding conviction — commanded the entire field.
“I will not marry Princess Mira,” Taehyung declared, his voice carrying across the plains like thunder. “I will not return to the palace. I will not take the throne.”
King Seojun’s face darkened. “You dare—”
“I renounce my title as Crown Prince!” Taehyung shouted. His Alpha aura exploded outward, dark cherry wine and smoldering cedar laced with pure dominance, forcing many soldiers to step back. “I renounce my claim to the throne. I renounce every duty, every expectation, every chain you tried to put on me.”
He took a step forward, standing protectively in front of Jungkook’s unconscious form.
“I choose him.”
Gasps rippled through the army. Princess Mira’s eyes narrowed in fury.
Taehyung continued, voice breaking with raw emotion. “This Omega — Jungkook — saved my life when I was dying. He taught me what it means to live. He showed me beauty in simplicity, strength in gentleness, and love without conditions. He is my mate. I have claimed him. And I will not abandon him.”
King Seojun’s voice boomed with rage. “You would throw away a kingdom for a forest whore?!”
Taehyung’s eyes flashed dangerously. “Call him that again, Father, and I will forget you are my king.”
He turned and knelt beside Jungkook once more. With gentle hands, he lifted the Omega into his arms again, standing tall in front of the entire royal assembly. Then, in front of everyone — soldiers, king, princess, and the watching forest — Taehyung bared his teeth and sank them into the fading mating bite on Jungkook’s neck.
He reclaimed him.
A bright golden light erupted from the bite mark as the bond flared back to life with renewed power. Jungkook gasped awake in Taehyung’s arms, body arching as fresh energy surged through him. The forest responded instantly. Vines and roots surged forward from the treeline, wrapping protectively around both of them. Glowing spirits appeared in droves, swirling in celebration.
Jungkook’s eyes widened as he regained consciousness, staring up at Taehyung in disbelief.
“You… came back?” he whispered hoarsely.
Taehyung smiled through his tears, forehead pressed to Jungkook’s. “I never left you. Not really. I couldn’t.”
He kissed Jungkook deeply, passionately, right there in front of the entire kingdom — a public declaration louder than any royal decree. Their scents mingled powerfully, wild berries and dark cherry wine blending into something new and unbreakable.
When they parted, Jungkook’s eyes were filled with tears. “But the forest… your father…”
“I don’t care,” Taehyung said firmly, loud enough for everyone to hear. “Let them take the throne. Let them burn the palace if they want. I choose you, Jungkook. In this life and every life after. You are my home. My mate. My everything.”
King Seojun’s face was purple with fury. “Guards! Seize him!”
But the soldiers hesitated.
Taehyung’s Alpha presence was too overwhelming, too commanding. Many lowered their weapons, moved by the raw love and conviction they witnessed.
Jungkook, still weak but gaining strength from the renewed bond and the forest’s returning magic, clung to Taehyung’s neck. “You really gave it all up… for me?”
Taehyung looked into his eyes with pure adoration. “I would give up the world for you.”
The forest surged forward.
Massive roots created a natural barrier between them and the royal army. Flowers bloomed instantly around their feet. The trees groaned — not in anger this time, but in acceptance. The ancient magic finally recognized Taehyung’s sacrifice. He had chosen the forest. He had chosen its guardian above power and glory.
A soft, ancient voice seemed to whisper on the wind, heard only by Jungkook:
He is worthy.
Jungkook smiled through his tears, pressing his face into Taehyung’s neck. “The forest… it accepts you now.”
Taehyung laughed — a broken, relieved, joyful sound — and spun Jungkook gently in his arms, ignoring the pain of his wounds. The glowing spirits danced around them in bright spirals, celebrating the union.
King Seojun watched in stunned silence as his son, the once-proud Alpha prince, chose a wild Omega over an entire kingdom.
“Disown me if you must,” Taehyung called out one final time, voice steady and proud. “But know this — I have never been happier than I am in this moment.”
With that, he turned his back on the kingdom, carrying Jungkook deeper into the forest. The trees parted for them willingly, creating a glowing path home. Vines and flowers bloomed in their wake as if welcoming a new guardian.
Jungkook wrapped his arms tightly around Taehyung’s neck, legs around his waist, crying softly against his shoulder.
“I thought I lost you,” he whispered.
“You’ll never lose me,” Taehyung replied, pressing kisses to his temple, his cheek, his mating bite. “I’m yours. Completely. Forever.”
As they disappeared into the heart of the Forbidden Forest, the royal army stood motionless. Many soldiers lowered their heads in quiet respect.
King Seojun remained on his horse, staring at the spot where his son had vanished. For the first time in years, something like regret flickered across the old king’s face.
Back in the safety of their pondok, Taehyung laid Jungkook down on the fur bed with utmost care. He cleaned their wounds, applied healing salves, and held his mate close as the forest sang around them — a song of forgiveness, acceptance, and new beginnings.
“You really chose me,” Jungkook said in wonder, tracing the fresh claiming bite on his neck.
Taehyung caught his hand and kissed his palm. “I will always choose you. Until the end of time.”
Outside, the flames on the forest’s edge began to die down. The trees healed. The spirits danced.
The Alpha had made his choice. And the forest — and his Omega — had finally chosen him back.
——
Months had passed since the day Taehyung turned his back on the kingdom. The Forbidden Forest had transformed. What was once a place of wary shadows and ancient resentment had bloomed into a sanctuary of light and harmony. The trees no longer groaned in protest when Taehyung walked among them. Instead, they swayed gently in greeting, their leaves shimmering with soft golden light. The spirits danced freely around him now, perching on his broad shoulders and tangling in his dark hair as if he had always belonged.
Taehyung had become the Forest’s King in everything but name.
He stood at the edge of Silverfall, the magnificent waterfall where he had first claimed Jungkook. The water still sparkled like liquid diamonds, but now vibrant flowers of every color bloomed along its banks — flowers that only grew when both guardians were near. His body had healed, leaving behind faint scars that Jungkook loved to trace with gentle fingers. He wore simple forest clothes now: a dark tunic open at the chest and loose pants, barefoot like his mate.
Strong arms wrapped around his waist from behind.
“You’re thinking too much again,” Jungkook murmured, pressing his cheek against Taehyung’s back. His voice was light, full of warmth and teasing affection.
Taehyung turned in his embrace, pulling the Omega flush against his chest. Jungkook looked radiant. His long black hair flowed freely down his back, adorned with small glowing flowers. The mating bite on his neck glowed steadily with healthy golden light — a permanent mark of their unbreakable bond. His skin glowed with health, and his wild berry scent was sweeter than ever, now permanently intertwined with Taehyung’s rich cherry wine and cedar.
“How can I not think?” Taehyung said softly, cupping Jungkook’s face. “I almost lost you. I gave up everything… and somehow gained more than I ever dreamed.”
Jungkook smiled, rising on his toes to kiss him. The kiss was slow and deep, full of quiet gratitude and endless love. When they parted, Jungkook rested his forehead against Taehyung’s.
“The forest has accepted you completely,” he whispered. “You are no longer an intruder. You are its Alpha. My Alpha. Our home.”
They had built a new life together.
The pondok had been expanded — now a beautiful home with two rooms, a wider hearth, and walls covered in living flowers that bloomed according to their moods. A small community had begun to form at the forest’s heart. A few runaway Omegas, lost travelers who respected the land, and even some reformed soldiers who had defected from the kingdom had found sanctuary here. Under Taehyung and Jungkook’s guidance, they lived in harmony with the forest — taking only what they needed, giving back with care and respect.
Taehyung had become the protector he was always meant to be. Not a ruler of men, but a guardian of life.
As evening fell, they returned to their home. The fire crackled warmly. Soft glowing orbs floated lazily near the ceiling. Jungkook prepared a simple meal of roasted vegetables, fresh fish, and wild berries while Taehyung watched him with dark, hungry eyes.
After they ate, the air between them grew thick with desire.
Jungkook barely had time to set the plates aside before Taehyung pulled him into his lap. The Alpha’s hands roamed possessively over his mate’s body — sliding under the thin tunic to caress smooth skin, thumbs brushing over sensitive nipples.
“I need you,” Taehyung growled against Jungkook’s neck, licking over the glowing mating bite. “Been craving you all day.”
Jungkook shivered, a soft whimper escaping his lips. “Then take me, Alpha. I’m yours.”
Taehyung didn’t need to be told twice.
He stood up, lifting Jungkook effortlessly and carrying him to their large fur bed. Clothes were shed with urgent but reverent hands until they were both bare. Taehyung hovered over Jungkook, drinking in the sight of his beautiful mate — flushed cheeks, dark eyes heavy with lust, legs parting willingly.
“So perfect,” Taehyung murmured, voice rough with possession. “My wild Omega. My mate. My everything.”
He kissed Jungkook deeply, tongues sliding together as he settled between his thighs. Slick was already coating Jungkook’s entrance, sweet and abundant. Taehyung’s thick cock pressed against it, teasing, before he pushed in with one slow, powerful thrust.
Jungkook moaned loudly, back arching off the bed. The stretch was perfect, filling him completely. Taehyung groaned at the tight heat, burying his face in Jungkook’s neck as he bottomed out.
They moved together like they were made for each other.
Taehyung’s thrusts were deep and steady at first, savoring every clench and whimper. Then they grew harder, more possessive. He gripped Jungkook’s thighs, spreading them wider as he drove into him with powerful rolls of his hips.
“Mine,” Taehyung growled, biting down on the mating mark again — not breaking skin this time, but reaffirming the claim. “Only mine.”
“Yours,” Jungkook cried out, nails raking down Taehyung’s back. “Always yours, Alpha.”
Their bodies moved in perfect sync — skin slapping against skin, moans and growls filling the warm pondok. Taehyung’s hand wrapped around Jungkook’s leaking cock, stroking him in time with his thrusts. The pleasure built higher and higher until Jungkook came first with a broken scream, clenching tightly around Taehyung as his release painted both their stomachs.
Taehyung followed moments later, burying himself deep and spilling inside his mate with a guttural moan. His knot swelled, locking them together as wave after wave of pleasure pulsed between them.
They stayed connected, breathing heavily. Taehyung rolled them carefully so Jungkook lay on top of his chest, still impaled on his knot. He stroked Jungkook’s back tenderly, pressing soft kisses to his hair.
“I love you,” Taehyung whispered. “More than yesterday. More than tomorrow.”
Jungkook nuzzled into his neck, smiling sleepily. “And I love you. My stubborn, beautiful Alpha who chose flowers over a crown.”
Outside, the forest sang.
A gentle melody of wind through leaves, distant waterfall, and the soft chimes of glowing spirits. The trees stood tall and proud, their ancient magic now flowing freely to protect the two guardians who had earned their place.
In the years that followed, their legend grew.
Stories spread beyond the forest — of the Alpha Prince who gave up his throne for love. Of the wild Omega who taught a king how to be human. Of the sanctuary they built where anyone who respected the land could find home.
Taehyung and Jungkook ruled nothing with force, but everything with love. They raised a small, peaceful community. Children with curious eyes and gentle hearts learned the ways of the forest. And sometimes, on quiet nights, Taehyung would press his hand to Jungkook’s growing belly, whispering promises to their future pup.
The runaway prince had found his real kingdom.
Not one of gold and marble, but one of blooming flowers, ancient trees, and the warm arms of the Omega who had saved him.
As the years turned into decades, their love only deepened. They danced under the moonlight at Silverfall. They made love beneath singing flowers. They protected their home with fierce devotion.
And on the quietest nights, when the forest glowed softly around their home, Taehyung would hold Jungkook close and whisper the same truth he had chosen long ago:
“I would give up every crown in the world… for one more lifetime with you.”
The Forbidden Forest had found its true guardians.
And they lived happily — wildly, freely, and completely — ever after.
The End.
