"My rings! My beautiful rings! I think my rings are melting!"
Saturn was frantically searching through his closet back at his old orbit, the one between Jupiter and Uranus.
"No...no...not this one...ugh, where could it be?" The big-ringed planet wondered out loud as pieces of clothing scattered around the orbit.
"Saturn, what's wrong?" Asked Titan, Saturn's largest moon. He approached his parent planet with Rhea, another one of the Saturnian moons, behind him.
"Oh, hello Titan. And hello, Rhea! It's nothing, please don't worry about me," replied the gas giant.
"What's all this, Saturn? You have such a lovely assortment of clothes!" Rhea complimented, giggling as some of Saturn's scarves fell over the smaller moon. She peeked through one of them.
"Ah, you caught me then, my dear moons. See, now that the Sun has forced all of us to share one orbit with the Earth, my rings are melting! It's also getting hot around here, and I can't find my sunhat!" Saturn explained. "Summer has arrived early on one of my hemispheres because of my close proximity to the Sun, so I need to keep cool for the summer."
"I'm sure you'll find your hat somewhere," Titan replied, looking around the scattered clothes.
"Oooh, can we help, please?" Rhea's eyes lit up. "We'll find your sunhat much faster, so that the Sun doesn't get mad at you for being off your new orbit!" Her tone was encouraging and sweet, like she's always been.
"Okay, I could use the help! Thank you, both of you," Saturn smiled, bowing his head at his moons. The three of them would spend some time looking for the right clothes that Saturn needed, until they eventually found a large, beige-colored sunhat that even had a green-colored bow in the middle. "This is the one! Thank you, Titan and Rhea."
"You're welcome!" The two moons said at the same time.
"All this searching and rummaging through my clothes just actually gave me a great idea," Saturn mused.
"We're...going to clean up your closet?" Titan asked.
"Oohh! I know, we'll donate some of them to charity?" Rhea asked too.
"While both of those sound nice...I don't want to be too far from the Sun now, so we can clean up once this shared orbit thing gets over with. But I decided...we're all celebrating summer early, so why not throw a fashion show?" He asked warmly. His two moons' eyes widened in surprise.
"Wow! Really? That sounds so fun! Can I join, Saturn, pleaseeee?" Rhea pleaded.
"I was going to make this fashion show just for us planets only, but considering that the moons are also with us in orbit, then okay! It's open to everybody!" He smiled.
"Yay! Oh, I'm so excited! I'm gonna look around for things to wear now! Do we need to have a theme? Also, Titan, why don't you join us?" Rhea excitedly nudged the bigger moon.
"I think I'll pass for now," Titan replied timidly. "I'm not really big into fashion, but if you need help planning or hosting, then I can do that," he offered. Saturn's smile brightened, and so have his many rings. Now it was time to plan for a Solar System summer fashion show!
"You want us to...what?" Earth said out loud. He and the other planets and moons were gathered in one big meeting.
"He said...we should have a summer fashion show! Whatever that is," replied Venus, the hottest planet of the Solar System.
"Huh! What are we going to wear?" asked the smallest planet, Mercury.
"Just wear whatever you feel comfortable with," Saturn encouraged the group. "But keep it to a summery theme! You'd want to look good and feel good, all while we're orbiting so close to the Sun!"
"Hmm, I do have a nice hat somewhere," Jupiter chimed in.
"Honey, if it's that large cowboy hat again, then I don't think it's very appropriate for the season," Saturn replied, chuckling. "That hat is literally falling apart!"
"I guess I should find something else then, dear!" Jupiter laughed back. "You know I'm not one into fashion unlike you, but if it makes you happy, we'll all try our best and participate."
"C'mon, Earth," Mars, the red planet, nudged his best friend. "We should wear something matching!"
"Deal!" Earth agreed.
"Hm, I wonder if my old artist vest and beret still fit me. I was around two billion years-old when I last wore it! That's appropriate for summer, too, right?" Uranus asked.
"I'm gonna crochet something for my moons to all wear! And also crochet one for myself!" Neptune said excitedly. His little moons all cheered in unison.
Saturn smiled at everybody, who all seemed to dig into the idea of dressing up for the summer. This was something he was looking forward to, especially if it meant he could lift some solar spirits up by even just a little. Saturn glanced at the Sun, who was facing away from everybody. He seemed to be building something with a bunch of asteroids.
"Hey Sun," Saturn said softly. The main sequence celestial was startled by Saturn's greeting, but quickly turned around to face him.
"Oh! Um, hello, Saturn. How are your new orbits so far?" the Sun asked, raising an eyebrow. He was suspicious, should the planets disobey him once more.
"They're...they're okay," Saturn replied, half-lying. "But I just wanted to personally invite you to our fashion show."
"What! A fashion show? Here in the empty vacuum of space?" The star was genuinely surprised.
"Yeah, and you can participate, spectate, or judge, whatever you want," the ringed planet informed him. "That's all I wanted to say to you. Good-bye!"
"Huh!" the Sun said out loud, as Saturn left to return to his new orbit and plan with the other planets.
Saturn returned to discuss the fashion show plans and presentation. The other planets were already trying on outfits, each having fun. Venus and Mercury, in particular, were being pretty playful with each other as they tossed outfits and accessories, laughing together. Some of the moons joined in, mostly the girls. Europa, one of Jupiter's Galilean moons, was helping style some of the other moons. She placed a giant blue-colored bow with some summer patterns on it like pineapples, over Rhea's north pole. Next, Europa helped Callisto, another Galilean moon, touch up her mascara. Callisto also had a black sunhat on. Titania, Uranus's largest moon, was experimenting with various lipsticks that were in tropical shades. Ariel and Miranda chased Oberon around just to put some summer facepaint on him. Earth and Mars found matching leafy crowns. Saturn watched everybody get ready with a big smile on his face. It mattered so much to him that his friends were happy and having fun. Of course, as the most fashionable planet and the show's organizer tonight, Saturn needed to look his best. Some glitter here, glitter there, and touching up to his face, he would get ready as well for the big event.
Soon, it was time for the fashion show to begin!
The Sun was presented with a brief catalogue of the looks Saturn captured of his fellow planets and some of the moons. All this star had to do was come up with a good description for each participant's looks as they made their way down the runway—a version of the Asteroid Belt organized to look like a catwalk stage. Ganymede, the largest Galilean moon and of the Solar System, projected his own auroras (due to his strong magnetic fields) to create some artificial lighting for the stage. Titan made sure to help him, although he kept knocking down the stage lights by accident because his gravity kept clashing with Ganymede's.
"Okay! Um, hang on..." the Sun read carefully from the catalogue as the fashion show started. Triton, Neptune's largest moon, started to play some music from a DJ's booth that he rented out. "Well then! Good evening, my Solar System! Tonight, you are all invited to watch, perform, and cheer for a very special show. Organized by Saturn, is a summer fashion show that presents the hottest, trendiest, most tropical looks of the Milky Way Galaxy! Let's begin!" The crowd, both non-participating moons and little moons, cheered. The Sun put on an adorable pair of sunglasses. "Mercury, you're up first!" The small Solar System planet made his way onto the catwalk. "Mercury sports an adorable winged and feathered helmet on his north pole. On his south pole is an adorable, grassy skirt perfect for luaus and dances around a bonfire." Mercury struck a pose, showing off his winged helmet. "Venus, our hottest Solar System planet! Venus is wearing a wooden crown adorned with spikes, representative of his personality and overall surface composition. Dangerous, mysterious, yet elegant." Venus glared at the other moons, striking a pose before chuckling and joining Mercury at the end of the runway.
"Earth, our planet of life!" The Sun called out, and Earth came out next. "Earth wears a crown made of leaves, as well as large, cat's eye-shaped yellow sunglasses. On the lowest end of his western hemisphere, Earth carries a delicious green-colored mojito with a tiny blue paper umbrella on top." Earth cutely spun around, particularly showing off his cocktail. Luna, Earth's moon, was up next. He shyly strutted onto the stage. "Luna looks cute in his little straw hat and matching basket filled with freshly baked pastries. Hey, you better share some with us!" The Sun added jokingly, the crowd laughing.
"Mars, the red planet! Mars matches Earth with a leaf crown, topping off his look with a lovely pair of shimmery, green antennae. Oh, and there are his two moons, Phobos and Deimos, with looks to match their planet!" The crowd gave out a happy aww when the two little moons happily orbited Mars. "Up next, make way for Jupiter!" Jupiter's own gravity moved some of the asteroids surrounding the runway. "Jupiter looks sporty in his soccer jersey and matching soccer ball, as well as his thick sunglasses. He truly looks the part of a team player, ready to make it to the finals of the universe cup!" Jupiter drops the soccer ball to strike a pose, moving gently so as to not capture anything or anyone with his strong gravity. "Jupiter's moons, Europa and Callisto, light up the night with their shimmering makeup and outfits. Europa's icy underground melts with her dazzling and super-hot pink sundress on her south pole with a matching pink bow on her north pole. Callisto wears a flouncy, loose black blouse with a ribbon on the back, on her south pole." The two moons struck matching poses.
"Here comes Saturn, our very fashionable organizer!" The whole crowd cheered. The loudest cheers came from Saturn's moons. "Saturn scores an adorable sunhat with a large green bow. But the best part about his look is the way his rings glitter! Saturn also wears soft, lacy overalls near his south pole, taking a peak at his hexagonal storm." Saturn gave the crowd an adorable wink and a flying kiss. "Rhea matches her parent planet with a giant bow filled with tropical patterns such as pineapples, fruits that grow on Earth's surface." Rhea giggled, spinning around Saturn excitedly. "Dione looks regal in her blue sundress with puffy bell sleeves and matching heart-shaped sunglasses to match." Dione took off her sunglasses, nodding and smiling at the crowd. "Enceladus, who formed Saturn's E ring, carries the look of a delicious summer salad with a leafy headgear, with leaves the colors of red, green, and orange vegetables." Enceladus bowed his head. "I'm now fine being called Ensalada!" He shouted, laughter erupting from the crowd.
"Up next are the ice giants! First, is the very artistic Uranus with his black beret and sky-blue artist's vest. Last-minute, he painted his vest to create a more summery look." The painted ice clouds on Uranus's vest allowed him to stand out more. His rings were also glowing a little. He held back a sneeze, hoping he didn't catch a cold from being too close to the Sun. He gave a smile to the crowd, tipping his beret. The five major Uranian moons did an adorable conga line behind their planet, each of them adorned with matching flower crowns. "Titania, Oberon, Umbriel, Ariel, and Miranda match altogether with flowery, yellow crowns." As Uranus reached the end of the runway to meet the other planets, the Uranian moons moved a bit too fast and bumped into each other in a hilarious way, working up more laughter from the crowd.
"Last, but not the least, Neptune! Neptune, you look a little green," the Sun pointed out, but kept spectating. "Still, you look fresh with your red and white Hawaiian shirt and a seashell put together, filled with small cubes made of dry ice. Neptune's little moons all match with crafted, crocheted pineapple patches on their eastern hemispheres." Another aww came from the crowd as the little moons swarmed Neptune. He looked at his moons fondly, smiling at them. He spun around, 360-degrees, juggling whatever it was he was juggling (probably his ice clouds or winds) as his own form of posing.
Once all planets and their moons finished walking down the runway, they all gathered at the center of the catwalk stage to show off their looks one last time, before bowing in unison, the whole crowd cheering for their favorites. The Sun smiled as the fashion show came to an end...hoping that deep down, maybe the planets didn't mind sharing an orbit at all.
Meanwhile Saturn smiled, too, seeing he's made everyone's night by organizing such an event that screamed "slay"-worthy. It wasn't the ideal summer vacation he had in mind given he and his fellow planets may crash onto one another at any given moment...
But it was still a summer slay-cation, and Saturn hoped he could make the most of it more.
