Work Text:

It’s a surprise to absolutely no one when both Luna and Elio develop an ear for music very early on.

Being constantly in the presence of not just their musician fathers but also their very music-oriented extended family has them learn to sing and to appreciate songs almost as soon as they start understanding sounds and languages. Finding their voices comes naturally to them right after that.

And their admiration for their fathers’ and uncles’ work doesn’t even stop there: at four years old Luna is already begging Jure to let her bang on his drums whenever she’s in Joker Out’s rehearsal space, meanwhile Elio develops a fascination with all stringed instruments, in particular his father’s acoustic guitar.

Bojan and Kris are of course delighted by their kids’ proclivities: they’re aware it’s too early to get their hopes up over both Luna and Elio continuing the family’s legacy and becoming musicians in the future, but that doesn’t stop them for wanting both children to enjoy music and start a basic education on it. So Luna first and Elio after, they get enrolled into a music-oriented preschool.

What both kids love the most seems to be singing lullabies, which they prefer far more over reading bedtime stories. The few minutes they get with their dads before sleep, already tucked into bed in their pajamas after having washed their teeth, is very precious to them.

Bojan and Kris try to miss as few bedtime singing sessions as possible: even when they have concerts, they’re used to facetime their babies before going on stage to quickly sing them their favorite lullabies and say their goodnights.

But Luna and Elio’s preferred evenings are those spent watching a movie on the couch and then transferring to the kids’ room to choose a little happy tune to softly sing all together. Bojan and Kris create most of the songs on the spot, using their children’s toys as inspiration or a cute story heard here and there.

One little wolf goes…” Bojan starts singing, already comfortably sitting down on the chair they put between Luna’s and Elio’s beds. He’s holding a little toy wolf in his hand, just like Elio and Luna are.

“Ah-woo!” Elio howls happily.

Two little wolves go…” Bojan sings again, while fixing Luna’s pillow and covers more comfortably for her.

“Ah-woo! Ah-woo!” This time it’s both kids howling.

Three little wolves go: ah-woo! Ah-woo! Ah-woo!” Bojan goes on, joining his babies before continuing: “And the full moon goes…” waiting expectantly for Kris’s cue.

Kris is standing on the other side of the room, switching on the kids’ night light while going: “Ah-choo!” in a mimic of a sneeze.

The kids start laughing, giggling and kicking their little feet under the blankets.

Once their merriment has calmed down a little, Bojan goes on with the song.

The wolves were surprised by the sound from the sky, they’d never heard the moon sneeze ever in their lives. Is it from the stardust?” he asks, still singing.

“Mh-mh.” negates Kris, still playing with the little night light to switch it on when he’s answering.

Do you have a cold?” asks Luna.

“Mh-mh. Mh-mh.” Kris hums, shaking his head.

"Allergies or is it just…” Bojan goes on, extending his index finger to tickle under Elio’s little nose, prompting the kid to laugh again and ask: “A tickle in your nose?” to the full moon in the sky.

“Mh-mh. Mh-mh. Mh-mh.” Kris denies again, before replying in his lovely falsetto: “Actually all that I was trying to do was say ah-woo to you too.”.

“Oh! Well, in that case…” Bojan exclaims and suddenly the whole family is howling joyfully, devolving into a fit of tiny happy laughs until goodnight kisses are exchanged and everyone is ready to sleep.
