Work Text:
“Johnny, can we huddle up?” I ask, it's quite chilly in the church we had to stay in. Usually, we would borrow each other’s exterior clothes to give them warmth, but the air makes it too freezing for that. Only human body temperature would work in this circumstance.
“Uh, yeah sure, Pony.” And so with that, I made a space for Johnny to snuggle in, to be as snug-as-a-bug-in-a-rug (or whatever the saying is.) We squeeze in so the heat really radiates between us, to get that full experience.
The silence isn't awkward, it's comfortable. Like your favorite poem or illegal activity or a hug from the people you thought hated you after a long time. Maybe we were meant to be snuggling in the church, together, because he knows it too. And with that, our faces are close and hands almost entwined.
Johnny finds himself moving closer and closer, I find it cute how Johnny starts to warm up when he realizes what he's doing. “Johnny, it's alright, it's cold.”I am only reassuring myself though, I don't want to admit that I am warming up too. I bet Johnny just wants to crawl in a hole and freeze from how embarrassing it is.
I mean, us two never questioned our feelings for each other, but my god it's awkward to acknowledge it. I would rarely say this but, I would want to do this everyday if I could so I can hold on to Johnny a little longer. It's clear that we have something between us though, I mean, the whole gang even sees it.
Our breaths tingled, helping us through the chills of the breeze. You could really notice how blue our hands are getting from frostbite and how pink our noses are getting, or maybe how pink his lips are getting. Or how squishy they look, or plump.
“Ponyboy.. What are you staring at?”
Fuck, I didn’t even realize I was staring, but honest to god, I couldn't look away. I mean, how could you resist Johnny Cade?
“Oh, sorry, I was zoned out. Do you feel comfortable being this close?”
“Yeah, I'm alright.. Say, pony, ever kissed a boy?” It stunned me for a second, the topic changed spontaneously, it was out of the blue.. (or.. out of the rainbow..)
To answer the question though, I never had kissed a boy, at all. “No, never even kissed, actually.”
Johnny was shocked, flabbergasted even. I don't get it, I'm not a pretty, handsome boy? I am smart, perhaps funny and that's it. Johnny needs to see the truth…
“Would you like me to kiss you?” He asked bluntly.
I nodded, but I affirmed verbally afterwards to make sure it was clear consent. I watched as Johnny would crawl up to me and wrap his legs around my waist and position himself so he was sitting right–coincidentally on my crotch. He made me sit up right to demonstrate how to do it, it was going to be a lesson, more or less.
Johnny set his hands on my jaw to hold me steady, “just stay still and watch me,” I took a quick note of everything–like how beautiful he looked over me– so he could practice. Or how his breathing kept getting unsteady as he got closer, or how sweet his lips tasted when they touched.
God, it felt like paradise. Paradise in a cold, dusty church. I kissed back and didn’t let go until I physically had to stop. Johnny looked like an angel after that, fuck, how didn’t I know how good this was before?
We kissed a couple times after that one, oh, I just couldn't get enough. It was like a nice cig after a long day, or waking up with the birds tweeting and breakfast ready. I would do this everyday if I could.
“You like that, Ponyboy?” Fuck, do I LIKE IT? I love it. I'm starved. Yet I am tired. I crave more but I want to lay with him in my arms.
“I sure do, lover,” unfortunately for me, Johnny notices the tiredness in my voice and how it slurs but I am still grinning like an idiot because I want to do this forever. He untangles his legs from my waist and lays his head on my chest, yet his body is upon mine and I'm holding his hand and feeling how smooth it is.
We huddled together again, because the breeze had catched back up to us again and Johnny was shivering a little. I don't want us to catch frostbite so I hold him close to me like he’ll fly away like a feather if he isn't tight enough to me.
Our eyes flutter, and I know we are safe right next to each other, because I hear his heartbeat with mine and his soft skin and pink lips and know I am in heaven where it’ll be okay if we’re together. As he drifts off into sleep, I kiss him one last final time gently and let myself fall into the hands of slumber as well.
