Work Text:

The range plan was her doctrine.

Laying on a garden bench, Velvette went over the projections of the range plan while ignoring the ceiling above her.

She might no longer have to create all of this herself, but Velvette would never let a range plan pass her by without going over them with her own eye. Data always won, but she needed it in visuals. No colour would be missed. The most popular colours and styles would carry the line, but the others were there to fill out the final 20%.

Velvette could manufacture the most popular ones by making them the limited stock. The ones she loved the most would be the styles the masses would love the most. And whenever she needed inspiration for the colours, to make sure she missed nothing, she reviewed her range plan in one of Valentino’s gardens.

“You should do one like this!”

Val held the huge pot in all four of his arms. They had gardeners to transplant, but Val wanted to do it himself at times and so he did. The huge flower (not dainty enough to be called a blossom in Velvette’s eye) was a gorgeous dark amethyst which ran into into dark raspberry tips with cotton candy pink speckles.

She ran the colour spectrum over a fluffier one of the skirts. It would take a bit more work to figure out where it should all go on a top or any of the bags, but the skirt showed promise and Velvette filed the palette to be sent into interest checks.

Val hadn’t stopped to watch. He was already arms deep in the soil with the plant sitting next to him. Nibbling at his ruff. He didn’t seem to mind.

Velvette took a picture and returned to her comfortable work.
