Chapter 1: A Strange Circus Arrives

Chapter Text

It’s been 4 years since your best friend Jaden married Wayne. You’ve always been supportive of their relationship ever since they first started dating.

They never talked about wanting kids until last year, after Jaden saw some kids playing at the park near them.

They knew they could never have kids on their own. They were the same sex, after all. And adopting never felt right for them.

So, a month or so later, they called you. You were their closest friend and had always been with them. So they asked.

“Hey ⬛️⬛️⬛️⬛️. We wanted to have a kid, but we didn’t want to adopt. So we wanted to ask you this one big favor.”

And that’s how it all started.

8 months later

You’re set to due in just 1-2 weeks. And while waiting, a circus arrived!

“I wish I could go,” you thought, “but those tickets are so expensive! Ughhh, why do I have to be stuck at my job saving money to buy a stupid ticket while everyone else just has enough money for oneee??”

You begin walking to your work, still pouting about your lack of money, when you see a large crowd forming around two men.

One man is yelling at the other. He’s wearing regular clothes. The man getting yelled at is on the ground and wearing… is that a clown costume?

That’s besides the point! The poor clown is getting yelled at!!

You make your way to the angry man and clear your throat, one hand under your pregnant belly to support it, the other is on your hip.

The man turns around angrily, glaring at you.
“What do you want?!” He yells, very mad still.

“Why are you yelling at that poor man?” You ask, “He didn’t do anything to you!”

“Are you dumb??” He stops yelling, but is still talking very loud and angrily, “Ever since that damn circus showed up, people have been going missing!”

“Just because someone ran off with their lover, that doesn’t make it the circus’s fault!” You say, as that’s the only side of the story you heard.

“Open your eyes! I hope they take you too!” He storms off, very obviously pissed that people weren’t taking his side more.

“Are you okay?” You ask, helping the circus worker up. Only then do you realize how tall he really is.

He says nothing, just looking at you. “Oh right!” You think, taking out your bag and scrambling through it before finding what you’re looking for.

“Take this!” You say, holding out the bandage you just found in your bag. “For your injury!”

The circus worker just looks at you and tilts his head, before smiling big and taking it.

“I have to head to work now, but be careful!” You say, as you scurry off to work.

You arrive at work 10 minutes late because of the interaction and your stomach weighing you down.

“There you are, ⬛️⬛️⬛️⬛️. For a minute there I thought you’d be a no show too.” Your boss says from behind, jump scaring you.

“Sorry about that, boss! But what do you mean ‘too’?” You ask

“Carol hasn’t shown up yet, I’ve been covering her shift for her.” He replies, “It’s pretty busy in here. Could you deliver the orders to the tables? They’re on the counter.”

“Sure!” You say as you grab the orders off of the counter and head to the first table.

(I ain’t writing about the fuck ass tables :/)

After you’re done, your boss comes up to you. “Hey ⬛️⬛️⬛️⬛️, can you pick up those flyers after the customers leave?” He asks.

You nod and wait for the customers to leave before picking up the posters. It’s hard to pick up some of them though, because your stomach is in the way. Somehow you manage to pick them all up.

Just as you do, the bell chimes, signaling that someone just walked in.

You turn around and greet them, as per usual.
“Hi! What can I get started for you today?” You ask.

“One large black coffee please.” He responds.
(I ain’t gon’ be typing all this shit)

“Are you listening?” He asks, snapping you out of your trance-like state.

“Sorry?” You ask.
“Figured as much. Here, take this.” He pulls a pink and black ticket out of his pocket.

“I can’t!!” You reply, knowing how much the tickets cost.

“I insist. I went already and was planning on going again, but I have to leave town soon.” He says.

You sigh, finally taking the ticket, “Okay then, thank you.”

He nods, letting the conversation end at that so you can get back to work.

A while later, your boss walks up to you. “I have an appointment and have to get going, you can close up shop early.” He says, “I don’t want you working too late alone.”

“Got it.” You respond, waving to him as he leaves.

A few minutes later, the last customer leaves and you begin to clean. All of a sudden, you hear the bell ringing.

“Sorry, we’re closed!“ you say, turning around to look at the door, but no one is there. “Huh? But I swear I heard the bell?”

Just as you’re finishing your sentence, the lights turn off. Immediately you’re on high alert, looking around before deciding to grab a knife.

“I just have to turn the lights back on.. no big deal, you’ve done this before…” you say to yourself as you make your way to the breaker.

You finally get to it, turning the lights back on and sighing in relief. As you do, you hear the bell ringing again. You huff and think to yourself, “I wish I had locked the door..” and you turn around.

Standing at the door, you see the circus worker from earlier. “Oh, you again!” You say.

He doesn’t respond, staring at your knife with a curious look.

“Oh, right!” You say awkwardly, setting the knife down, “Sorry about that.”

You apologize. As you do, he smiles brightly again and holds out a paper rose to you. It’s freshly painted and still has to dry.

“Aww, is this for me? Thank you!” You say, admiring the rose. You look back up at him and see he has another injury.

“That looks serious,” You say, “sit down, I’ll take care of it!” You motion for him to sit at one of the tables and.

Grabbing the med kit, you make your way over to him and begin to take care of the wound.

When you finish, you step back and actually think to yourself about some things.

“You never talk. Is it a part of your job or something?”

He looks around before walking closer and whispering, “No one can see me talking.”

You nod, making sense of it now. “So it’s part of the act then? Oh, by the way, I’m ⬛️⬛️⬛️⬛️. What’s your name?” You ask.

’I know’
“I,” he begins, “am The Pierrot”

‘Wait what?’
“Like the clown?” You ask, “But you don’t look like one.”

“Ahh yes. We were required to… modernize my attire, but my role remains the same.” He replies.

“So the others on the streets are Pierrots too?” You ask, keeping your hand under your stomach for support, as it was starting to hurt.

“No, my lady. I am the only Pierrot. The others are Jesters and… Harlequins.” He adds a bit of a snarl at the last word and ever so slightly rolls his eyes.

Somehow you get the feeling that he doesn’t like whoever this “Harlequin” guy is.

Before you respond, he walks closer yet again and pulls out a red ticket. “Take this, my lady. I insist.” He says.

“Oh, that’s okay! I already have one!” You reply, remembering the earlier interaction.

He pauses at your words, smile dropping ever so slightly. “May I see it?” He asks.

You’re slightly confused as to why, but hand your pink ticket to him anyways.

After he takes it, he makes it turn red like magic, “Woah, that was so cool! But why?” You ask.

“That was a faulty ticket. It wouldn’t work. Don’t take tickets from strangers, My Lady.” He replies.

You’re about to talk more before you realize you need to close up.

“I’m sorry to ask this, but could you leave? I have to close the shop.” You ask politely.

He nods and bows goodbye. “Farewell, my lady. I shall see you soon.” And with that he disappears before your very eyes.

After closing, you finally drive home. When you get there you immediately go to the bathroom to take a shower and get the day’s grime off of your pregnant body.

After getting out and drying off, you step out of the bathroom and get greeted by a large cold breeze.

“Huh,” you think to yourself, “I thought I closed my balcony door.. strange.”

You close the balcony door and turn off the lights. After getting under the covers in your bed, you immediately fall asleep. Maybe it’s because of the busy day, or maybe because you’re due soon. You don’t know.

(I ain’t writing about Pierrot watching you sleep)

Notes:

Sorry if some of the dialogue is wrong and about the gaps in the story. It’s 3 AM when writing this and I haven’t played in a week. Lazy post but I hope you liked it. I’ll update as soon as I feel like it!
