Moving Forwards After Looking Back

Summary:

After the events of Hadestown, life has to go on, no matter how hard it is.

We've heard the story time and time again, but what ever happened outside of those events?

(AKA, a bunch of found-family stories (some very short) about Hades, Persephone, and Eurydice that take place post canon)

Notes:

Alright, this is just to set up. Admittedly, I MUCH prefer individual one-shots to chapters and chapters and chapters of short stories like this, but the truth is, some of these are going to be super short and not long enough to get their own stories. I'll put it into a series and any longer stories can get their own story, but most of the short ones will be here.

Also does anyone know exactly what time frame Hadestown is in? Like, I know 1930's-ish, but there's some inconsistencies, so this is its own weird little time period. Where they don't have phones or anything but they have coffee makers... or... whatever.

Chapter Text

"Hi."

Hades froze, looking at the girl in front of him. Eurydice, specifically. In his house. Sitting at his breakfast table. Casually sipping coffee out of one of his mugs. "What are you doing?"

"Drinking coffee. Noon or not, I could use the caffeine."

"Not what I meant. Why are you in my house?" His voice was serious, leaving no room to joke around. This wasn't her house, she had her spot in the worker's quarters. And he had certainly not invited her in, much less allowed herself to make herself comfortable and start using the things he had in his kitchen how and whenever she wanted. So he was more than slightly eager to know what was going on and who he had to punish for it.

"Our house," She corrected.

Hades would have laughed if the remark wasn't so audacious. "Excuse me?" He asked lowly, raising an eyebrow. "Says who?"

Eurydice wilted slightly under his stare, realizing that might have been a slight overstep on her part. "Says your wife," She said meekly, her earlier attitude diminished completely. Because in the end, he was still a god, and one she probably shouldn't be treating the way she had just been treating him. Whatever had temporarily encouraged her to talk to him like that had vanished completely.

"Really?" Hades crossed his arms.

"Really. Go ask her."

"I will. You don't move a muscle." Hades turned on his heel and walked back upstairs to his and Persephone's bedroom, where he was assuming she would be. Sure enough, she was on the couch in it. "Lover," He said as he came in. "Would you mind telling me why Eurydice is at our table drinking coffee as if she lives here?"

"Oh. I told her she could stay."

Hades stared. How drunk had she been last night..? "Why?"

"She's not a bad girl, Hades. And you obviously need someone to watch you and keep you in line when I'm gone. At least keep you company." She closed her book and got up, walking over to her husband.

"First of all, I don't need to be babysat. Second of all, she's below me. I own her. She couldn't do anything if she wanted. And lastly? You're here right now, so she doesn't need to be here even if we do go by your points."

"I like her," Persephone insisted. So, the truth was coming out. "It's just one worker, Hades. I'm not inviting the whole of Hadestown to stay. But I told her she could have one of the guest rooms we have downstairs."

"...Just because you're fond of someone doesn't mean they have to live with us. Can't we let her live next to the house or something?" Hades could have a small building constructed within a month if Persephone wanted her by so badly, but he wasn't that open to the idea of suddenly inviting someone into their house. It had been them and only them forever now.

"Hades." She wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled herself closer. "I think she'll be nice to have around."

"Around isn't living with."

"It can be. Come on, please?"

Hades sighed, biting his lip. He really, really didn't like this plan... but Persephone very obviously did... and he also wasn't fond of telling his wife no, especially on something she seemed so serious about.

"At least let her stay for a few weeks. We'll see how we all get along." She gave Hades a hopeful look, tilting her head slightly.

Hades groaned. "Fine. Fine, she can stay for a month. A trial of how it goes with her. But that doesn't mean she's free to get away with anything she wants. If she crosses the line then trial's done and she's gone."

"Fine. Thank you." She kissed him on the cheek, making Hades feel better about this just because of that alone. "It'll turn out, Hades."

"We'll see..." He grumbled, walking out of the room and back down to Eurydice. He huffed and walked over to the side of the table across from her, glad to see that she had stayed as she saif she would. "You're allowed for a month. But you're on thin ice."

"You're just not happy that I wasn't lying."

"That ice is already melting."

Eurydice rolled her eyes and finished off the coffee she had.

This would be.... interesting.

Notes:

I know the chapter sucks but it’s okay. I thought it was clever. It wasn’t. But I’m not changing it now
