"Yeah, that looks good. Lighting is just right"
Yukio Ashcroft looked down at the photograph they just took: a Japanese maple, the sun just starting to set beyond the horizon painting the sky various shades of orange and pink.
Yukio is a newly graduated college student with a love for photography, a passion they always loved. Ranked close to the top of their class in photography due to their natural talent for knowing how to get the lighting just right, the angle just so.
Yukio put their camera into their bag, a simple leather one, along side a few other items they brought with them: a small journal and pen, a tube of chapstick, and pepper spray. Hey, you can never be too safe.
Yukio looked over at the tree they just taken a photo of, the reds and oranges blending perfectly with the colors of the sunset.
A small sigh escaped them, sure it was great that they graduated, even better that they were one step closer to achieving their dream of a career in photography
It...just wasn't the same. They wanted him by their side, wanted him to be there as they got their degree.
Yukio shook their head, now was not the time for those memories, they had to get home.
Pulling out their phone from their bag, they sent a quick text to their mother, "Heading home now. Will be home soon, love you so much".
As they put their phone back in their bag, they begun to walk, they needed to get home soon. They didn't like it when their mother gets worried.
As Yukio roamed the empty streets of their hometown, they listened to the sounds of the evening.
The soft buzzing of the street lamps as they begun to turn on, the soft chatter from surrounding restaurants, the galloping of...wait, galloping?
Yukio turned around, wondering where the sound was coming from as they tightened their grip on their bag.
The thundering of hooves against asphalt grew louder and louder, Yukio's heart in their throat as they realized the sound was heading right for them.
Yukio swiftly turned around just as a pitch black carriage drawn by two black horses sharply turned around the corner, the horses neighing as if announcing their presence.
Yukio couldn't move, they could only stare as the horse drawn carriage barreled towards them...
Suddenly, it stopped right in front of them, the door of the carriage opening but...nobody was in the carriage itself. It's like the door opened by itself.
Yukio looked from the door, to the horses, back to the door of the carriage. They didn't know why but something about the newly opened carriage door drew them in.
They looked around, the soft glow of the moon being their light source besides the street lamps, illuminating the carriage in a faint light.
Yukio took a deep breath, before getting in the carriage, sitting on the black velvet seats as the door closed beside them. Hopefully this takes them home...
They don't even remember passing out, a soft groan escaping them as they rubbed the side of their neck...wait...where are they? And why is it so dark?
