A moment with you

Summary:

After getting slightly injured during a battle against a doombot army, Thor takes it upon himself to help his friend and his Captain take care of himself with a relaxing bubble bath.

( spoiler alert! They're more than friends if that wasn’t obvious enough)

Another one of my prompts has been completed!

Work Text:

Steve's body ached from head to toe. Sometimes, he thought it was a miracle that he was even still alive considering he just got blasted from a building that was 3 miles away from where he currently had landed, but the super soldier serum worked wonders and Steve Rogers was never one to complain about a miracle. He could be dead right now so a few aches really should feel like nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Not even a few seconds later, someone landed beside him with a loud thud.

Steve knew that red cape from anywhere. Seems like the God of Thunder also just got his ass kicked by whatever beast Doctor doom cooked up. It took him no more than a second to be up and ready to fight again. His irritation showed heavily on his face.

It was times like these that really made Steve marvel at the fact that they actually had met a God and that said God was now on their team of super heroes. Afterall, Thor didn’t even look like he pulled a muscle after being thrown like that. To him it was probably just another day on Asgard. Steve made a mental note to ask about it later.

Stretching his limbs out a little, Steve lifted up his shield, ready to get back into the battle.

“I tire of Doom and his machines.” Thor admitted bitterly, dusting off the rubble that clung to his armor. “So do I.” Steve huffed out. He was down right exhausted but, the job wasn't done and probably wouldn't be for another few minutes. Steve brought his fingers up to his ear, lightly tapping on his comm. “Iron man, what's happening over there?” The line crackled for a few seconds before the armored knight's voice came through.

“Nothing good. The Doombot is headed towards the square.”

“Great, just another great day in the lives of the avengers.” Hawkeye added. His sarcasm wasn't needed, but it was good to know the archer was still in the battle. A loud boom was caught on the comms. “Are you and Goldie Locks on your way back yet or what?” Hulk growled into the ear piece, causing the soldier to wince.

He looked back and gave Thor a knowing look, the God spinning his hammer. He pressed his fingers back onto his ear piece. “We'll be there in a few seconds, just keep holding down the fort, big guy.” The line crackled again before it tuned back in. “Hulk been doing that! Just hurry up!” He yelled through the comm and Steve, on any other day might've been rather annoyed at the attitude but when you're dealing with the Hulk, attitude is always a part of the package deal. Not to mention dealing with Doombots was always a frustrating ordeal.

Without another word, Thor wrapped his arm around his Captain's waist. Pulling their bodies close together, and took off to jump back into the fight.

“The Bots have made it to the square, all civilians have been evacuated.” Natasha said as Steve felt some sense of relief in his system. That would make it much easier for them to fight. “You hear that Thor, no more need for you to hold back.” Thor laughed, the sound as deep as the Thunder that followed. “Then this shall finally be a delight.” Thor said. He landed just low enough to the ground to drop Steve off safely. Once he knew Steve was out of harm's way and taking care of the other bots, the god of thunder flew up to the sky to take care of the bigger threat.

Steve watched him go. Thor cut through the sky like a bolt of lightning given form, completely untouchable, and unstoppable. The storm clouds seemed to gather around him rather than follow, as if the heavens themselves bent to his will.

In Steve's humblest opinion, Thor looked like something out of scripture like an Angel or a deity. He looked like something far too bright to belong in the same world as him. That's probably why he was considered a God, because there was no way Thor Odinson could be anything else except for an ethereal other worldly being. Steve blinked hard and forced his focus back to the fight.

Right now wasn't the time to be marveling at Thor's beauty. Not when there was a threat that still needed to be taken care of. So Steve got his head back in the game and went straight back to work, taking care of the weaker links of Doom's robotic army. Steve isn't sure when it happened but somehow along the way he ended up back to back with Hawkeye, which was much better for him in the grand scheme of things. He probably broke a few ribs earlier and while he could definitely handle this on his own, he would much rather have had an assist.

Hawkeye shot his last ice arrow before switching to his bow staff. He expertly started putting his skills to use, knocking down each bot that attempted to stop him. Steve and Clint's eyes met one another and they immediately knew what to do. Clint didn’t need a signal—he never did. Steve planted his feet and raised his shield just as Clint sprinted toward him.

“Now!” Steve ordered, and Hawkeye was quick to comply. Clint stepped onto the shield and Steve launched the archer skyward, his body going into the form of a backflip and for a split second, Clint was weightless. He hung in the air like a bird soaring through the skies. Just as he was thrown into the air, Ironman had dropped off more arrows into his arms. The second the arrows landed into his arms, Clint pulled out his quiver and before he could land, on the ground, he sent his arrows flying, knocking down any and doombots that were in his way.

Upon descent, Hawkeye placed his quiver back on his back and replaced it with his staff to crush two doombots heads when he landed. Once secure, Hawkeye took out his bow and arrow again and started freezing the doombots legs. Steve took that time to throw his shield and slice off every last frozen legged bots head.

Still, more bots were at the ready since the master bot had yet to be destroyed. Steve cocked his head to the side before he got back into action. He slid under one of the Bots legs, knocking it down with his foot before slicing the head off the machine with his shield. A bit blasted him from behind knocking him off center, Thankfully before the Droid could do more damage, Black Widow kicked its head clean off of its body.

“Thanks Widow.” Natasha smirked. “On your feet Cap, the job's not done yet.” Steve got back on his feet and continued to fight. He never stayed down for long.

He, widow, and Hawkeye fought side by side together for another five minutes before a thunderous boom shook the battlefield to its core. Thor had effectively taken out the commanding doombot with Hulk and Ironman, and unfortunately, the west side of the city's power. Despite that, Steve still knew a win when he saw one, as he popped down on the ground from pure exhaustion.

He tapped his comm lightly, hoping that it didn't short circuit when Thor destroyed Doom's biggest bot yet. It took a few seconds before the comm responded. “Good work Avengers.” Steve said. He heard heavy breathing in response, as Hawkeye plopped down beside him.

“Calling Fury and the penguins of Madagascar to clean this up as we speak.” Iron man added. Steve rolled his eyes. He had no idea how Tony could still joke like this, but then again, this wasn’t the first time Tony did this either.

The next few minutes moved by in what felt like a blur, but Steve knew that the only thing he wanted right now was to get back to the compound and relax. Judging by his comrades' faces, he could tell that they felt the same.

Before Steve could even get the team to hustle towards the Quinjet, Thor had landed beside him quietly, before he swept Steve right off of his feet, scooping him up in his arms, and taking off into the air.

Steve held on with his mouth agape. He wanted to complain, but the second he saw Thor's glare, he felt the complaint die on his lips. He'd like to lie and say that he didn't know why Thor

It didn't take long before they were back at Avengers tower, landing on the roof of the building.

“You know you don't have to be so upset Thor, it was only a scratch.” Steve lied, hoping to ease Thor's mind, but the look Thor gave him was enough to stop the lie in its tracks.

Steve let out a sigh. This fight was a lost cause. The only thing left to do was follow the Asgardian to wherever he wanted to go. The two walked down into the elevator in silence. Steve wasn't even sure what to say.

What could he say? Anything he would let out of his mouth would most likely make matters worse. Thor pressed the button to his floor. Steve watched as the Asgardian leaned his head back against the wall, and took measured breaths.

Steve wanted to break the silence but he really didn't know what to stay so he stood still, his hands clasped in front of him.

The elevator pinged. They had finally made it to Thor floor. He motioned for Steve to follow him down the hall, and Steve followed him. He was starting to feel a bit tired from all of the activities of the day and it didn’t help that he was still in his uniform.

Thor opened the door. Once Steve was inside, he locked it behind him.

“Sit down Steven. I'll be right back.” Thor said. Steve knew good and well this wasn’t a regular conversation and that Thor wasn't asking him to do anything. It was a command. One that Steve wasn't too keen on fighting. A good Soldier knew when to follow orders so Steve plopped down on the couch and sighed.

His ears perked when he heard the sound of running water. Immediately Steve felt what could one be described as dread.

Thor was always generous and attentive. It was one of the things Steve admired about the thunder god but sometimes it was too much. Specifically times when Thor thought it would be a good idea to draw a bath for him.

Before Steve could get up and think about running away from all of this, Thor stepped back outside of the bathroom and once again, swept Steve off of his feet.

“Thor, please put me down.” Steve pleaded but Thor wordlessly shook his head no.

Carrying Steve gently, Thor made his way into the bathroom, Seating Steve down on the bench next to the tub. Thor bent down on his knees and started unstrapping each boot carefully. Steve felt his face flushing at the gesture.

Intimacy was always something he struggled with. The only person Steve ever even had touching him was Bucky but it was never anything like this. Bucky was just his pal. He would give him casual friend touches. Thor's touch was unlike anything Steve had ever experienced before and he often wondered if he'd ever feel anything like this if it didn't come from the hands of someone so sacred.

Thor touch was strong yet careful. He never hurt, only cared for. Just like his smile, his personality was warm and inviting. Because he wore his emotions so well, just looking into his eyes Steve could tell his intentions and that thought alone made his heart melt. Because looking into the Gods eyes right now, Steve could tell that he was loved and that alone was enough to keep Steve from fighting against the man in front of him.

How could he ever think about running away? Thor was a god and he was just a simple man and yet, Thor was on his knees for him. He was caring for him as if he was something to be treasured. He felt like he was downright being worshipped with the amount of care Thor put into taking off every last piece of suit.

Steve swallowed hard. He wished Thor didn't care. It was too damn much being loved by someone so perfect.

“Stand.” Thor demanded. Steve felt himself practically jumping off the bench in hopes that he could at least do one thing to make this easier. Once up, Thor carefully took off Steve undergarments and set those and his punches on the bench.

Steve felt rather embarrassed about all of this but that didn't stop Thor from admiring his body.

“You need not feel shame over your body.” Thor explained, cocking his head to the side to look at Steve's body from another angle. “You look most glorious.”

If Steve was blushing before, he sure was now. “Uh… thank you.” Thor shook his head in amusement before he remembered the task at hand. The thunder god cleared out his throat.

“Please, get in the tub.” Thor said, gesturing towards the bath.

Steve slowly walked over to the tub and the bubbles immediately caught his eyes. With a deep breath, he dipped himself in. The water was hot but soothing. It immediately made his ribs feel better. It didn’t take long for Steve to relax after that. “Feels nice?” Thor asked. Steve hummed in agreement. Thor chuckled lightly and then began to undress himself, starting with his cape and ending with his pants. Once he was naked, Thor walked over to the tub and tapped Steve's shoulder.

“Do you mind if I join you?” Steve smirked. “It's a free country.” Thor smiled and slipped into the tub behind Steve.

It didn't take long before they relaxed into each other's company. Steve laid back against Thor's chest and the god welcomed it with open arms.

The bubbles surrounded their skin and slowly fizzled away around them.

“So… why a bubble bath?” Steve asked, leaning his head back just enough so he could see Thor's face. The god cocked his head to the side, as if mulling over the answer. “I suppose I wanted our bath to have a little bit of whimsy, no?” Steve couldn't stop another grin from breaking out across his face.

“Do you like it?” Thor asked, as he rubbed soothing circles on Steve's thighs. Steve nuzzled back into Thor's chest. “I love it.” He hummed out blissfully. “It really does have its charm to it.”

Thor lifted a brow. “You speak as if you have never done this before.”

“Because I haven't.” Steve replied.

Thor felt his eyes widening. “This is really your first bubble bath?” Steve nodded his head. “Truly?” Steve laughed. “Yes Thor, it really is my first Bubble bath.”

“Then we have to make the most of it.” Thor insisted. Before Steve could even find out what that meant, Thor lifted up some bubbles and placed them on Steve's head.

“So this is what we're doing?”

“Aye.”

Soon bubbles and water were being splashed around and Steve had to admit, it felt nice to just enjoy the ride.

But soon the laughter and mess died down as soon as Thor started massaging his shoulders. Steve melted into Thor's touch as he massaged the knots and spasms out of Steve's tense shoulders.

After that, they continued to lay against each other.

“Thank you for this.” Steve said happily. “I really do appreciate everything you've done for me.” Thor gave a soft smile.

“You're very welcome, Älsking.”

The two stayed like that for a few more blissful moments before the water started getting cold. Thor grabbed the towels and handed one to Steve and they dried themselves off.

Thor grabbed his robe and handed one to Steve. Steve had just finished tying the knot of his robe when Thor grabbed his hand and led Steve to the bed, promptly gesturing for the captain to lay down. Once Steve looked comfortable enough, Thor grabbed the remote, put on a movie and sat down next to him.

The both of them were so behind on everything modern that they often made it a tradition to watch the list of “must watch” movies that Tony had hand picked for them together.

They watched The Princess Bride and The Breakfast Club. By the time the movies were over and their third pick was beginning, the night sky had started to make itself visible. They weren’t tired yet, so Thor took it upon himself to press the next movie; It Happened One Night.

Halfway through the film, Thor had decided he would like to examine the Captain.

His lashes were long and seemed to glow when light hit them just right. He had beautiful moles in many places on his body. He was certainly a sight to behold. But he was even more beautiful when he was happy and himself.

A look that Thor was more than happy to keep seeing.

Steve turned his head and was met with eyes looking back into his. Thor gave a gentle smile that reached his eyes. Steve loved when Thor smiled like this.

Steve isn't sure which one of them leaned in first but when their lips met, it just felt right.

It always did.
