Chapter 1: Ancient Foe?

Chapter Text

On the planet of Corellia, within the Green Jedi Order, Veeria Nyx, aspiring Jedi Padawan, walked the halls with one of her Masters- specifically her father Rena Nyx. The father and daughter had finished a dispute between rival gangs terrorizing a small village several hundred miles away. Veeria brushed her cyan colored hair aside, fingers swiftly fixing her ever present ponytail. Despite being twenty, her father patted her on the head, drawing a small whine from the woman.

“Dad, my hair!”

“It still looks just fine dear. Besides, Rasha isn’t at the Temple today.”

“Hmp. Even still, I like my hair to be in place.”

He chuckled to himself.

“Yes, well you have all day to fuss with your hair now. I’ll give you a call if anything comes up, alright?”

“Alright. I’ll see if Kuvi or Lema are around.”

The older Nyx nodded and walked off, leaving Veeria to her own devices. Veeria pulled out her comlink and tuned it to Lema’s frequency, a tiny hologram of a Togruta woman appeared.

“Veeria, you’re back.”

“Yeah. I was wondering if you wanted to hang out.”

“Oh, sorry, I’ve got to give Savalai a ride so she can pick up her ship. Maybe we can do something afterwards though.”

“No worries. Yeah, we’ll see when you get back.”

“Yeah. See you then.”

“Bye.”

The hologram disappeared and Veeria pocketed her comlink with a tiny frown. She knew Solrol and Alexgra were both on missions with their respective Masters and Zora was still sick with a cold. It seemed as though she would be on her own for the time being, not that she entirely minded. She could always call Rasha to chat if the green Twi’lek wasn’t too busy.

‘It’s probably too early to call her, she’s usually still working right now. Oh well. I’ll just meditate.’

Veeria went to a quiet area within the Temple grounds, finding a nice shady tree to sit under. She closed her eyes and found her center, letting her thoughts and emotions run their course before clearing her mind. She wasn’t sure how long she stayed there before her comlink beeped again.

‘Dad must have found something for us to do.’

She answered the call and her father’s hologram appeared, clearly moving in a hurry.

“Veeria, there’s a situation at Rasha’s home. Meet me in the hangar bay, quickly.”

Her eyes widened slightly as a sense of urgency settled over her. She got to her feet and ran as she answered.

“I’m on my way. Bay six, right?”

“Yes. I’ll be there before you.”

Ending the call, Veeria ran towards the hanger bay, wishing the day had stayed calm instead. Veeria boarded the speeder with her father, buckling in as he took off across the city skyline. The Padawan felt anxiety grip her heart as her father described what little information they had.

“A strange woman suddenly appeared in her home. She’s armed and dangerous. She might be hopped up on spice, so be careful.”

Her father landed the speeder soon enough and the two jumped out, quickly assessing the situation. They spotted the green Twi'lek with her hands out in a calming motion towards a tall red alien woman. Veeria felt her face heat up slightly when she saw the woman was completely naked, but any embarrassment was quickly ignored when she saw the crimson Lightsaber in her hand, pointed at her friend.

The two Jedi approached, drawing both women's attention, and the one with a blade aimed it at the two Jedi. None of those present could understand what she was saying, her tongue being completely unrecognizable. Rena spoke to Rasha, keeping his eyes fixed on the strange woman.

"What is the situation here, Rasha?"

"This lady fell outta the sky and seems pretty panicked. I can't understand what she's sayin neither."

"Should we try to subdue her?"

"Only if we can't de-escalate."

Rena approached her slowly, stopping when she growled at him.

"Uene res? Done stoy?!" (Who are you? Where am I?!”)

"We don't mean any harm. But we need you to put that away."

"Done sta me sposa?! Done sta Durga?!" (Where is my wife?! Where is Durga?!)

"Veeria, do you think you can use your gift to understand her?"

"My Force Echo. I can try, but we need to get her to calm down."

Veeria walked to where her father was. It was then that they understood a single word she said.

"Je'daii...Je'daii! JE'DAII!"

Rena pushed Veeria back when the woman lunged forward, her strike coming in hard and fast. Rasha scrambled behind the two Jedi as Rena blocked her strike. Veeria quickly went over and used the Force to pull the woman's saber from her grip. She had to drop it immediately when the ancient blade flooded her with hatred and rage.

"Je'daii uando ncontrar my wife, you'll die by her hand!" (“Jedi when I find my wife, you’ll die by her hand!”)

Veeria approached her slowly, realizing she could somewhat understand her. Her lips moved in a foreign language that her soul somehow understood.

"Arada! No uiero acer ano!" (“Stop! Don’t want harm!”)

The woman's head snapped to her, staring at her in alarm and surprise.

"¿Uedes entenderme?" (“¿You understand me?”)

"Ma o enos... diffici. ¿Ue es u ombre?... Io es Veeria." “Kinda…Hard. What is your name?... Mine is Veeria.”)

"...Geiltoch Sparda."

"Geiltoch, permítanos ayudarle. Osotros contrar u sposa." (Geiltoch, let us help. We can find your wife.”)

Geiltoch looked unsure before slowly nodding.

"Ok... She's agreed to let us help her. We can find her wife too."

"Good work."

Rena patted her on the shoulder. He removed his cloak and cautiously approached Geil before draping it over her shoulders. The red-skinned woman wrapped it around her body and muttered something as her face turned a little blue.

"Raci." (“Thanks”)

"She says thanks... I think."

"We'll have to teach her Galactic Basic."

"Yeah... But is that the best idea? She's clearly a Dark Side user."

"That is true, but she is also a scared, mildly defenseless woman. She clearly doesn't know where she is or even understand Basic. We might be able to pull her back to the light."

"I get what you mean. But where do we start?"

"First, we need to understand her. Do you think you can do your thing again on her?"

"Let's try it."

She looked at Geiltoch and approached her, this time with less trepidation. She held her hands up towards her and Geil leaned back slightly.

"¿Ue sta scendo?" (“What are you doing?”)

"¿Ito um... ontacto sted?" (“I need to um… contact you?”)

"¿Ontacto?...Ah. Ocar...Ien." ( “Contact?... Ah. Touch…Fine.”)

Veeria slowly put her hands on the taller woman's face since she could get a better connection through touching bare skin. Geil winced slightly at the contact, visibly tensing. Veeria closed her eyes and concentrated, seeing quick flashes of the woman's life, a father, her mother, friends, and family. Veeria saw Durga, the love of Geil’s life. She was a red skinned woman with small face tendrils and vibrant green eyes. Then she found herself inside a shaking Temple as a ritual was underway. She saw herself being ripped through space and time before landing here. Veeria blinked back tears as she felt phantom sensations from the Sith Pureblood.

"Geiltoch... I'm sorry, but...Durga is...she didn't come through with you."

She saw her face twitch as she opened her mouth, ready to argue, anger and fury on the tip of her tongue before her face crumbled, teeth clenched as the yellow glow in her eyes faded away and tears welled in her eyes. Geil's brow creased as she sank to her knees, her hands quickly moving up to cover her face.

"Durga... We were supposed to be together forever.."

Veeria stumbled back as Geil's eyes turned yellow again, the dark side radiating off of Geil as her blinding fury rose. She heard Rena quickly approaching behind her, ready to pull her to safety but she held up a hand. Veeria walked over and wrapped her arms around Geil as she collapsed into heart-wrenching sobs, burying her face into Veeria's shoulder as her rage sputtered out into crushing grief.
