Work Text:
- Melany! Look what I just found!
Nira, my best friend said of twelve years said. We were at a clothes shop, the only one in the village, when she of course found the worst thing in the shop to show me. Well that didn’t surprise me to say the least because Nira and I knew each other since childhood. We became friends because we lived a block apart, in a small village near the mountains called viora, and we were always together. Whether in school or at the park she was the one who was close to me and wanted to play with me. We told each other everything whether it was crushes or secrets we kept from our family. You can say she was my ride or die since then.
- Nira that looks like it’s from the 1850s.
- Oh come on I bet it would be a perfect fit on you. Just go try it on. For me. Pleaseee
- Ok ok just stop sulking I will go try it on.
Nira was always like that. She was always happy, always excited about the most ridiculous things, always got what she wanted but always stayed by my side even when…
I grab the cowboy shirt she was holding and headed to the dressing room. I took my time putting it on because I know nira is annoyed when she has to wait. Took my sweet revenge for what she had me try on. I walk out of the dressing room and wait for her to notice me. When she doesn’t I say
- That thing is disgusting to say the least. Why do you have such an awful taste in clothes as well as men?
She turns around to look at me with a somewhat offended expression.
- Excuse you! My taste in men is obviously better than yours ms “I need a nice, boring guy” blah blah blah…
- Hey! A nice guy would be perfect for me.
- Yeah because you are boring too! You have to live a little, sis.
Nira from a young age liked doing dangerous things and often include me too in her adventures despite my despise for all of them. One time she had us climbing in the roof of Mr. Rufus house just to prank him by throwing dust in his chimney. As believed Mr. Rufus was furious with us and you can add that to the list of why he hates my family and I ever since.
- Omg look at that!
Nira says holding a sparkly, flashy pink top that is definitely not appropriate to wear anywhere but a club.
-I’m gonna try it on. Wait for me!
She tells me as she closes the curtain of the dressing room. At the same time the door to the shop opens and there enters a tall, blond guy who looks somehow familiar. As I study him more I realize that he has dark blue eyes and he has a muscular athletic built. Why does he look so familiar? I catch myself staring at him for a lot more time than needed and then realize he is staring at me too. Shit. When I am starting to think of ways to kill myself out of embarrassment, is when nira calls me out to look at her top.
Thank you nira. For once your timing was good enough to save me from this awkward situation.
- How does it look?
Nira asks with a grin on her face.
- I have to admit it looks good on you, but-
She cuts me off saying
- everything looks good on me dummy.
- But… it’s not something to wear everyday and that’s what we are here for, remember?
- Yes, yes I know… we are here to find us clothes for the village.
For once nira was right. We were here to find clothes that would suit a village as we would be staying in our hometown for a while. When I left viora for the first time at 13 years old, it was for a scholarship at Yale for me to study psychology. I was the perfect candidate for a scholarship as they say “ the best way to be good at something is to live it through” and that definitely represents my life before it.
When we were finally ready to leave
