Work Text:
It was rainy outside Neil’s house, it was close to thundering, is what his weather app said, at least.
Neil couldn’t sleep. firstly, he was bored out of his mind, and secondly, he just didn’t want to sleep, even if midnight was the scariest time, in his opinion, since any crime (or break ins, the same as crimes) can happen at midnight.
He was just laying on his bed, scrolling through his social notifications, resting against the three stacked pillows cradling his head, and of course, wrapped in two blankets while the fan was blasting at Neil’s face.
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK!
“JESUS CHRIST!”
He yelled, as the knocking against his second story window, where his room was.
Neil jolted up on his bed, nearly falling, heart racing as he looked to see who was knocking at the glass this late at night, which was convenient since his bed was right up against the window; His mind was racing at possibilities, could it be an intruder? A Serial Killer?
“..Max?” Neil said, his face contorted from fear, to confusion.
Max, his boyfriend, was outside, having a tired, frustrated look on his face as he banged and banged on the glass window. “Can you just let me in already?” His voice wavered, as he kept looking back at the road below him.
“Your not gonna let me freeze to death, aren’t you?
Neil didn’t know how to respond at first; all he was wondering was how did Max even get to his window in the first place? And why was he “visiting” (Without an invitation, by the way) so late at night? “Stop banging at the window! You’re gonna wake my mom.”
He sighed, unlocking the window with one *click* before lifting it open, with a struggle, since he didn’t have to strength to do it.
Max instantly climbed through the window, landing onto the soft mattress, before roughly closing the window shut, not even bothering to close it. He could sense that Max was very frustrated, probably something that went past Neil’s mind before.
“Are you okay, Max?” He asked, his face softening as he saw the look of frustration on his boyfriend’s face.
“I don’t want to talk about it.” He quickly shut down Neil’s question, curling up in the bed as he watched him scramble to do something to make him feel better. “Just tell me when you feel comfortable, okay?
“Do you need anything? Food, water? Maybe I can turn on the TV while I get something downstairs?” He continued, grabbing his remote, before turning on the large TV in his room “Just don’t be too loud, okay?”
He passed the controller to Max, not before lowering down the volume to 15%, of course. Exiting his room before he could ask any questions.
There was many streaming services Max could chose from; HBO, Netflix, Hulu, Disney, Paramount almost all the streaming services a rich household would have. “Of course.” He sighed in frustration;
Max had only visited Neil’s house a couple of times for the first four months they have been dating. But he had never used his TV before, since he had better things to do with him than watching TV. He picked a streaming service, waiting for the profiles to load, thinking to himself that the movies were gonna be as shitty as his night.
To his surprise, once the profiles loaded, there was one profile with no icon, that had “Max” just below it.
He was too stunned to think before Neil came back to the room again, carrying a bunch of snacks they could eat, even if it was two in the morning. “I’m back, Maxy!” He called out, using his nickname to grab his attention.
“The only things that were in the pantry were Veggie Whole-Wheat Cookies” Neil sighed in annoyance, placing the box onto his bed before curling up next to Max. He looked at the cookie box, his eyes widening, seeing that he unintentionally gave him his favorite cookie brand. “These are my favorite.”
He said nonchalantly. Neil’s eyes widened, pausing before looking at Max with a teasing, but angry face. “You should’ve have TOLD me.” He said, teasing as he crossed his arms.
Max panicked, did he actually make Neil angry? He thought, beating himself up for it before even asking if he did. “Did I make you-” “No you didn’t? I’m just teasing, Baby, I promise.” Neil reassured, patting his back gently, seeing the forming blush on his face.
“Do you want to watch a movie? I’ve got-”
“Yes I do, nerd.” He interrupted, “But why do have a profile for me, even though we barely use the TV because we’re always doing other things. He questioned.
“Well, It’s just in case we wanted to watch a movie together. You have your own profiles on all my streaming apps. The reason why there isn’t a profile, is because I didn’t want to assume what you’ll want.” He answered
Max was bewildered. Neil was that considerate to put his own profile for him? And not just use the guest? “Wow. Neil,, that’s...Really sweet of you...” He mumbled, leaning against the stacked pillows, wondering how did he get so lucky that his partner can do the smallest things like that for him?
Neil gestured for him to pick a movie, which Max obliged to, scrolling through section through section, before he heard Neil get up rapidly, pulling the controller away from his hands.
“Hey-!”
“You need to change. I don’t want you to sleep in a soggy hoodie and jeans.” He said, holding up the controller in the air as Max tried to get up and reach.
“But I didn’t--” “You can use one of my t-shirts, there probably a good size for you to fit in.”
He paused, getting up to go look in the drawers, secretly giving a small, genuine smile, thinking how this nerd could forget something that was probably at the back of his mind for the past thirty-minutes now.
As he found an over-sized t-shirt, and was about to change, he saw Neil adverting his gaze, not wanting to invade his privacy. “You can look.” He chuckled, “I’m just gonna be in my binder, boxers, and T-shirt. Neil--”
“Yeah, but don’t you have to take the binder OFF??” Neil objected, making Max pause for a moment; making something click in his mind. He hadn’t really taken off his binder for like, the entire day, which was causing some pain to his shoulders and back, which he had learn to ignore.
“Oh...Yeah...” He mumbled, before Neil looked away again, quickly changing out of it, and into the T-Shirt and Boxers.
He never really wanted anyone to see him without it, that’s why he would wear it all day, everyday. But with Neil, he was comfortable enough to do so, if he reminded him, of course. “Thank you for reminding me...”
“You’re welcome, Maxy.” Neil replied, having a relieved smile on his face. Finally looking back as Max curled up beside him, face flushing red.
After getting cozy, Max finally deciding on what movie to watch; Coraline, which was one of the movie’s he liked in a way, but focusing on Neil was his main priority.
As they cuddled up together, Neil’s arm wrapped around his waist softly, as Max did the same, nuzzling his face into the crevice of his neck. It was fine, Neil had done this time to time before, until he felt a small squeeze on his hip, making Max jolt out of the position he was in with him. “What are you doing?!”
“I-I’m sorry!” Neil instantly apologized, his face gradually getting redder and redder.
Max just listened, seeing the panic and regret on his face. It was oddly attractive in a way; seeing how his brows furrowed when he was upset, and the lines on the corners of his lips forming from how expressive he was embarrassed.
He had enough, so he wrapped his hand around the side of Neil’s neck, before pulling Neil into a soft, unexpected kiss. Neil’s eyes widened as Max pulled away, instantly returning the kiss, wrapping his arms around his waist.
As they slowly pull away, both of their face were flushed. Max’s face was a warm red, as Neil’s was more pinkish. They were out of breath, panting even if it was only two pecks. Neil softly laid his head against his boyfriend’s chest, bring up his finger to slowly trace his arm. It was their first kiss, shockingly, after four months of dating.
“I...love you.”
Neil finally said, rising his head to look at Max’s eyes, his eyes sparkling with something he couldn’t even pin-point.
Max breath hitched, looking back at him, eyes welling up with tears as it took a moment to get those four words out of his mouth.
“I love you too...”
He said. Forgetting about the movie, and everything that happened an hour earlier entirely, just wanting to be here, with someone that shockingly loved him deeply despite all his flaws.
They lay together in bed, in the same position they have been. Not wanting to let each other go, as they slowly went to sleep.
