Periwinkle

Summary:

A poem inspired by that infamous kiss and its fallout.

Or, as I like to call it: Jim's late-night thoughts shortly after confessing his feelings to Pam.

Notes:

Hi!

So I wanted to do something different in honor of Casino Night's 20th anniversary. This poem, which I wrote for a school writing assignment God knows how long ago, is based on that specific moment in the episode. Not only do I hope it captures the feels between Jim and Pam, but also that of fans who remember that scene clearly. I mean, there's a reason why people call it "the kiss that launched a thousand fanfics".

Hope you guys love it! 😊

P.S. I also edited it before publishing it because I'm that much of a perfectionist.

Work Text:

Oh, how tempting that dress was.

The blues & lilacs shifting as it shimmered

like the emotions that moved across your face

when you couldn’t hide them anymore.

We stopped hiding.

No cards to conceal our smirks,

no lingering eyes or unwanted whispers.

I saw the stars in your eyes

as you teased a second round of poker.

How I wished for you to be this happy again

so they would stick around

even if they turn dull and dim when you go home to him,

even if it may be the last time

I see them.

If we’re being completely honest,

I never liked the color periwinkle.

I can’t stand the sight of it without

being transported to that night.

You in that drop-dead gorgeous dress,

with your soft hands brushing mine

after we both kissed until they slip away, along with the last piece of my heart

only to watch you disappear for good.
