Work Text:
Marinette almost couldn’t believe it. She had asked Luka out on a date! And he had said yes! It was all she could do to not write it off as a dream. The only way she knew it was real was that she had pinched herself on the walk all the way home. That and Juleka’s “Oh gross!” remark. Marinette, now in the safety of her home, giggled. It sounded a bit hysterical, but she didn’t care. She had a date wit Luka!
Luka couldn’t believe it. Marinette had asked him on a date. He had to be dreaming! He had dreamed of this moment too many times. But the shyness of her smile and the way she’d nearly choked the life out of him when she’d hugged him after was proof enough. He wasn’t dreaming. And that made it sweeter than any dream he’d have of that moment. Juleka had given him a hard pinch, too. Which stung but made him realize the reality of it all. He had a date with Marinette. Any song he had planned on playing before was gone. Only one song stayed in his head and he had absolutely no regrets.
Friday finally came and Marinette took extra care of herself all day. She’d planned her outfit a thousand times before settling on a pale blue dress. The edge of the skirt had embroidered flowers in her favorite shade of pink. She paired it with a white cardigan, belt, and flats. She brushed her hair till it shined, leaving it to settle around her shoulders loosely. Since they had agreed to meet at the restaurant, Marinette made her way there. A quick scan of the area told her Luka was already there. And, unfortunately, wasn’t alone. Marinette watched for a moment, a bit stunned. She knew Luka hadn’t brought the girl that was currently talking his ear off. But anything he tried to say was quickly ignored. The girl even had the audacity to touch his arm! A thought popped in and, before she knew what she was doing, Marinette went into action.
Luka hadn’t been able to pull himself together. Friday was soon upon him and, while he was excited for their date, Luka felt he had to dress up a bit. And he wasn’t the best at figuring out what was overkill. He knew Marinette wouldn’t mind the way he dressed, but he wanted it to be as perfect as he could manage. So, after many desperate calls to his sister and even to Rose, he had been instructed to, firstly, calm down. Then to find the nicest, but not fanciest, casual shirt he owned. Rose had even thrown in a few color suggestions for him. Now, he was dressed in black slacks and a white shirt with a collar. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d dressed in anything but jeans and a t-shirt. But Marinette was worth it. Even if he felt a bit out of place in the clothes.
Luka made it to the restaurant with plenty of time to spare. He stood to the side, waiting and trying not to watch the door. Which ended up being harder than he expected. Especially after a woman, about the same age as his actual date, came up to him. He didn’t give her a second glance, but then she started talking to him. He looked at her with confusion and dread. Luka tried to tell her, when she asked him questions, that he was waiting for someone else. But was cut off each time. She put a hand on his arm and Luka almost jumped out of his skin. He started to slowly ease away when his exit plan was suddenly interrupted.
“Luka!”
Looking up at the sound of his name, Luka saw Marinette coming over. She walked to him calmly, despite the almost stern tone she had called his name with. He felt a bit breathless when he saw her smile and the determined glint in her eye was...very hot. Marinette came into his arms, gently but firmly pulling on the collar of his shirt till their lips met. And the rest of the world was lost as they kissed. Luka melted, first into the kiss and then into Marinette’s embrace. Her hands slid from his shirt to his neck, then into his hair. Luka, in response, wrapped his arms around her waist, pressing her even closer to himself. He didn’t hear the stomp of heels walking away. He didn’t see the older couple that had been watching turn away with a smile. He didn’t smell any of the food that was cooking. All his sense were filled with Marinette and Luka wouldn’t have it any other way. When they finally pulled away, Luka could barely breathe. But even than was fine. His smile was wide and tender as he looked at the woman in his arms. She bit her bottom lip, blushing, but she was smiling.
“W-Was that okay..?” she whispered.
With a soft chuckle, Luka gently swept hair behind her ear.
“That was perfect.”
“You sound breathless.”
“That’s okay. Leave me breathless.”
Marinette laughed and Luka only smiled again. He took one of her hands, squeezing gently.
“How about we get some food first?” Marinette asked. “Then we can pick up from there?”
“Food can’t wait?”
Her giggle was answer enough, but she still stood on tiptoe to gently brush her lips against his again.
“Some of us need to eat, Luka.”
Luka only shook his head with a soft smile. “My loss.”
Marinette smiled at him before leading him to a table that was almost secluded. Luka sat with her, even ordering food he didn’t feel he needed as much as her kisses. But each smile and touch were just as sweet as any kiss. And, after a few minutes, Luka was happily kissing her again.
