Work Text:

There are many ways to greet someone you haven't seen in quite some time.

Raito proves to be very creative by saying "Oi, Tenma Tomoro, what the hell is wrong with you?" the moment Tomoro opens the door.

Tomoro has never been the sort to play by the rules. Etiquette isn't a high priority in his books. Plus, he has already equated the harsh tone with the other man and has accepted it as a part of him. Therefore, he has no scruples with being free with his own greeting.

He beams and moves forward, arms open as if to embrace the other. He only goes as far as to grasp the other's forearms. "Raito! It's been a while! Where have you been? How are you?"

Raito flinches, as if the rapid-fire questions are attacks against his armor.

Monodramon appears from behind him. "It's been a while," the more-polite Digimon greets, and is then summarily tackled by an excited Gekkomon.

Tomoro feels a flare of envy at how his Digimon has more success on the tackling part. But that's probably because Monodramon is a lot more easy-going compared to Raito.

Raito's face undergoes a series of expressions, each one more pinched than the last. "What, you haven't harassed the answer out of Hotaruko and Granit yet?"

"I only asked them for help to keep an eye out for you," he explains. "Because you didn't leave me a way to contact you directly."

For the next few seconds, Raito opens his mouth, only for no sound to come out. He battles with himself, turning out tongue-tied each time. Eventually, he manages to say, "...It's not like we're friends, idiot."

He's unfazed by this delineation of their relationship. "So you do admit that you're friends with those two."

"That's not true. They're Team Seven, that's all. Former Team Seven." Raito's gaze flicks to the side. "Even if it's been disbanded, I was still their leader. I do need to make sure that they're still okay."

Tomoro could see it, the brilliance that hasn't been hammered down completely by the time in Tactics. When he's not focusing on being Naito's lapdog, Raito's better qualities have a chance to shine. "...You are a good guy, after all."

"Want me to slap some sense back to you? Have you already forgotten all those people in the Colosseum?"

"How could I ever forget?" It's one of the rare times that he has worried for someone other than his brother or Glowing Dawn. "You've done some terrible things, but you're also a good guy."

Raito clicks his tongue, cheeks coloring. "You should get new glasses, if you're this blind."

"You haven't answered any of my questions," he points out. Banter is nice and all, but he has so many things he'd like to know.

"Why are you even so... excited to know my whereabouts?" Raito frowns, like it doesn't make any sense to him. It probably really doesn't. But he's still here, showing up after he gets the message relayed by the two other Team Seven members.

Tomoro makes a mental note to drop by the restaurant and be an actual paying customer next time, instead of just begging the two for Raito's contact information.

Seeing Tomoro quiet for a moment, Raito adds, "...Did something happen?"

Truly perceptive. "I just... ended up thinking about things."

A sigh. "Must you be this deliberately mysterious? I already appeared here, didn't I?"

Tomoro looks down and realizes that he's still holding Raito. His grip has slid down to the other's wrists without him noticing. It seems that Raito doesn't notice it either, not pulling away, as if this sort of distance is natural for them. The light from inside his current home layers a warm tone over Raito's face, still faintly flushed.

Something like hunger gnaws at his stomach at the sight.

"There was an attack at the hospital where my brother was at," he says, squeezing the other's wrists.

"Is he okay?" Raito sucks in a breath. "Are you asking my help to investigate or are you suspecting my involvement?"

"I'm asking for your contact information," he clarifies. "And your cooperation to report your whereabouts to me often."

Raito glares at him, gaze white-hot. "Are you actually suspecting me?!"

"No!" He doesn't allow the other to pull away, even when Raito struggles to slip away and perhaps slap him again. "I just realized! That if something happens to you, I wouldn't be aware of it!"

"And that works just fine!" The rise in his volume matches Tomoro's. "Like I said, it's not like we're friends and it's not like you're... what, the police or the medic team! You don't need to be aware of such a thing!"

"But I want to be," Tomoro argues back. He wants many things. He wants his brother's e-Pulse back. He wants Glowing Dawn to be a warm home. He wants the Digimon to lead better lives. He wants the people he cares about to always, always, always be happy and safe.

He wants to be Raito's friend. More importantly, he wants there to not be a situation where he couldn't come to the other's rescue if needed.

An earnest desire appears to be one of Raito's weaknesses. His struggling wanes, his shoulders deflating. "...You are an idiot, Tenma Tomoro."

Sensing his victory, he beams again. "And since you're a genius, you should know that I'll never stop bugging you until I get your contact information, right?"

"...You'd be bugging me regardless... once you get it, you'd probably annoy me every day..."

"Every day doesn't sound right." He'd do it every hour if he could, especially since he could already sense that Raito would mute him. The best way to get through the other man is to be incredibly persistent, after all.

Raito gives him a look, but then sighs again. "Fine. You win, urgh. Now let me go so I can actually add you on my contacts."

Happiness bubbles in his gut. He can't help but grab the other man again, his hands landing on the other's shoulders, like he wants to push their bodies together. His happiness and gratefulness rolls into one word: "Raito!"

"Oh, for goodness sake, how long are you two planning to block the door?" Reina calls out, sounding pissed and bored at once. "Some people actually want to have some peace and quiet, you know!"

This time, Raito does get the strength to slip away from Tomoro's hold, as well as the strength to smack his hands with the same force that he once slapped him with.

...Of course, it's incredibly gentle, just like that time.

After all, Raito is quite the good guy to him.
